Louis C. D’Angelo
Point Pleasant resident Louis C. D’Angelo, who was also a resident of Wilmington, Del., passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 5, in his home.

He was 85 years old.

In life, he put family and country first. He served as a rifleman in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart and the World War II Victory Medal in the European-African-Middle Eastern Service.

He was a graduate of Barringer High School, Newark. After the war, he graduated from Roanoke College, Virginia and later joined the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency as a special agent in Eastern Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim.

Of all his many talents, he loved baking and making music most. He began his career as a baker while in his teens working in the family business, The D'Angelo Baking Company, Port Reading. He enjoyed playing clarinet and saxophone and for a time in the late 1960s to early 1970s was the leader of a jazz quintet, The Boys in the Back Room, who played a regular gig at the Fireside Lounge, Washington, D.C.

He was predeceased by his elder sister, Adeline Nielsen, of Point Pleasant.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Irene Nebel D’Angelo; his brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Betty D’Angelo, of Woodbridge; his younger sister, Ann Leavitt, of Bloomfield, Conn.; and his brother-in-law, Alvin Nielsen, of Point Pleasant. He will be dearly missed by his daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Bob Torgerson, of Wilmington, and Sally and Col. Jon E. Stroberg, USAF, Ret., of Hanover, Pa.; his son, Francis T. D’Angelo, of Berwyn, Ill.; his grandchildren, Kevin D. Stroberg and Jenny G. Torgerson; his niece, Aimee Nielsen; and other family members.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE 19810.

Arrangements were handled by Chandler Funeral Home & Crematory, Wilmington, Del.

Marie S. [Blumetti] Callori
Point Pleasant resident Marie S. [Blumetti] Callori died Monday, June 8 in her home.

She was 91 years old.

Born in Manhattan and raised in Jersey City, she lived in Holiday City, Berkeley, prior to moving to Point Pleasant in 2007.

She was employed as a district manager for Barricini Candies in New York City for 20 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Anthony, in 1993; her brothers Anthony Sbano and Vincent Sbano; and her sister, Susan, and her husband, Lawrence Osnato.

She is survived by her nieces, Dolores Manzo and Agnes DeJacomo; and her nephew Mark and his wife, Eileen Callori; 13 great-grandnieces and nephews; and 12 great-great-grandnieces and nephews.

The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at Holy Cross cemetery in North Arlington.

Kevin Robert Tilton
Brick resident Kevin Robert Tilton, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, June 4 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.

He was 54 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant, he was a lifelong resident.

He had been employed as a custodian for the Point Pleasant Beach Board of Education for the past 22 years.

Mr. Tilton was a member of the Men’s Auxiliary, V.F.W., Post 4175, Point Pleasant Beach.

Surviving are his wife, Lila Thilesen Tilton; his stepdaughter, Cindy Lee Thilesen, of Pennsylvania; his sister, Judith Conway, of Howell; his brothers, Clarence W. Tilton Jr., of Point Pleasant, and Mark Tilton, of Howell; and his brother-in-law, Thor Thilesen, of Point Pleasant Beach.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements. Cremation will be held privately.

George Gundrum
Lavallette resident George Gundrum, also of South Amboy, died Sunday, June 7 in his home in Lavallette.

He was 84 years old.

Born in South Amboy, he lived there and in Lavallette all of his life.

A 1947 graduate of the American Academy of Funeral Service, New York City, he was the owner of The Gundrum Service Home For Funerals, South Amboy.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Seaside Heights and St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, South Amboy, where he served on the parish council.

George was a 62-year member and past president of the Middlesex and Somerset Funeral Directors Association; a member of the N.J. State Funeral Directors Association; and a member of the National Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 426 and a member and past Faithful Navigator of the Msgr. John F. Brady Fourth Degree Assembly, South Amboy. He was also an Honorary Life Member of the BPO Elks Lodge 784, South Amboy; a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, South Amboy; and a former member of the South Amboy Lions Club, South Amboy First Aid Squad and South Amboy Boat Club. He served on the board of directors of the Perth Amboy Savings Institution and Bankers Savings for many years.

Son of the late George and Loretta Gundrum, he was also predeceased by his sons, George and William Gundrum; his sister, Mary Kathryn Gundrum and his son-in-law, Peter Hogan.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ivalou Hoffman Gundrum; a son, Christopher Gundrum and his wife, Diane, of Lavallette; two daughters, Jeannine Hogan, of Brick, and Mary Gundrum, of Lavallette; a sister, Jane Reszkowski, of South Amboy; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The Gundrum Service Home For Funerals, South Amboy, was in charge of arrangements.

Renato “Ray” Noe
Point Pleasant resident Renato “Ray” Noe, formerly of Union City, died Thursday, June 4 peacefully in his home with his family by his side.

He was 87 years old.

He was born in Italy on Dec. 14. At the age of 19 Ray was drafted into the Italian army and became a major in the Mountaineer troops called “Alpini.” He fought the fascists and Nazis in northern Italy with the underground partisan troops.

After the war, Ray attended the University of Turin on scholarship earning a doctorate of letters degree with concentration in history and latin. That was no small accomplishment since he completed his grammar and high school studies on his own at home.

After college, Ray was hired by an Italian wine company and sent to the United States as a marketing representative with his new bride, Angiola. Ray left the wine business and started taking courses at Newark College of Engineering in mechanical engineering. He eventually went to work at Public Service Electric & Gas Co. where he retired as a senior staff engineer in 1986.

In 1976, he co-founded Powerfect, Inc. an engineering firm in Brick. He received 13 patents and was named New Jersey Inventor of the Year 1990.

Ray, with his liberal arts background, engineering expertise, knowledge of several languages including Latin and Greek, and interests such as philosophy and economics, was what some would call a Renaissance man.

Ray was predeceased by his brother, Angelo; and sister, Emma.

Ray is survived by his wife of 61 years, Angiola; his daughter and son-in-law Mary Jane and Dennis Luddy; his son Larry Noe; six grandchildren Amy, Eric, Sean, Chris, Jessica and Timmy; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Tyler. He is also survived by his siblings, Guilano and Carla, both of Italy.

The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in his memory.

Richard Hugh Paul Hauser
Appomattox, Va. resident Richard Hugh Paul Hauser, with family in Point Pleasant, died Monday, June 8 in his residence.

He was 62 years old.

Born Jan. 19, 1947 in New Jersey, he was the beloved son of the late George Hauser and Agnes Walsh Hauser.

Richard was a Vietnam Navy veteran serving on the U.S.S. Hancock, a member of the Brookneal Moose Lodge No. 1507, Brookneal, Va., and the Carpenters Resilient Flooring Union in New Jersey. Richard also served as a volunteer at the V.A. Center in Albany, N.Y.

He is survived by a son, Richard Michael Hauser, and his wife, Nicki, of Point Pleasant; three daughters, Michele Valentine and her husband, Edward, of Manahawkin, Rachael Perino and her husband, Brian, of Coxsachie, N.Y., and Ericha Hauser, of Coxsachie, N.Y.; a brother, George Hauser and his wife, Natasha, of Red House, Va.; four sisters, Margaret Connelly, of Freehold, Kathleen Sakoutis and her husband, John, of Jackson, JoAnn VanDeMark, of Allentown, Nancy Woodall and her husband, Gregory, of Appomattox, Va.; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Kelsey and Morgan Valentine, Ryan and Lucy Hauser, Richard and Joseph Perino; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox, Va., was in charge of arrangements.

Michael J. McCarthy
Point Pleasant resident Retired Capt. Michael J. McCarthy died suddenly on Friday, June 5, 2009, at home.

He was 55 years old.

He lived in Point Pleasant for 13 years. He was a fire captain for the Newark Fire Department from 1974 to 2004. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Newark.

He was the beloved husband of Debra Staatsburg McCarthy; devoted father of Melissa and John McCarthy and stepfather of Crystal Troccola; loving son of Dorothy M. and the late John M. McCarthy; dear brother of Brian McCarthy, Noreen Cryan and the late John P. McCarthy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Interment took place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover. The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, Maplewood, was in charge of arrangements.
