Joseph F. Rodi
Joseph F. Rodi, 52, of Jackson, passed away suddenly on Friday, Dec. 18.

Born in Point Pleasant, Joe was a life-long area resident, and served his country in the United States Army.

He worked as a landscaper for Final Touch Landscaping, Brick, and had previously worked for the maintenance department of Ocean Medical Center.

Joe was a member of the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club, and was a former member of Ocean Fire Company No. 1, Point Pleasant Beach.

He was predeceased by his father, Frederick Rodi.

Surviving are his mother, Marlene Taylor Rodi, of Jackson; his brother, Bruce Thomas Rodi, of Point Pleasant; and his nephew, Thomas Frederick Rodi.

Visitation was held on Monday at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, and a service was held at the funeral home.

Cremation will take place privately.

Mark T. Byrne
Venice, Fla., resident and former Sea Girt resident Mark T. Byrne died Saturday, Nov. 7, at Tidewell Hospice Home in Arcadia, Fla.

He was 54 years old.

Mr. Byrne was a self employed computer programmer. He owned and operated Distribution Software Solutions in Wall. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School in Belmar, received a B.A. in Criminal Justice at Niagara University in Niagara, N.Y. and then received his M.S. in Computer Systems Management from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, N.Y.. Mr. Byrne was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and lived in Arizona, Pennsylvania and New York before moving to New Jersey in 1970. He resided in Venice, Fla., since January of this year.

He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary Frances Byrne and by a son John Byrne.

Surviving are his children Cody and Erin Byrne of Virginia, County Cavin, Ireland, four sisters Karen Byrne, Patricia Byrne, Bonnie Fitzgerald Thorn and her husband Glen Thorn all of Point Pleasant and Geri Wainwright of Brielle. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 27, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 Wall.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. Burial will be held privately at St. Anne’s cemetery in Wall.

Donations may be made in his name to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

William B. Collinson
Manasquan Park, Wall Township resident William B. Collinson died Wednesday, Oct. 7, in his home.

He was 60 years old.

Bill had a great childhood hunting and fishing with his Dad in Lincroft. He moved to Brick in 1963. He then went on to graduate from Brick High School in 1967 and Monmouth College in 1971.

Bill worked for the Brielle Police Department as well as the Wall Township Police Department in the Patrol and Traffic Bureaus for a total of 25 years before retiring in 2001. He also served a term as the President of the PBA No. 34.

Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, fishing, boating and vacationing in Florida.

“Bill, we will keep you forever in our hearts.”

He was predeceased by his daughter Jessica in 2007, his father-in-law Bob Kneipp in 2007, his sister-in-law Joyce Kneipp in 1994, his grandmother Elsie Marx in 2004, his father William A. Collinson in 1971, his mother Helen Collinson Taft in 1997 and his brother Brett in 1961.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years Janice Kneipp Collinson, his daughter Erin, his mother-in-law Elsie Kneipp, his sister Joanne Segalla and husband Frank, his nephew Shane Tutzauer and fiancée Tricia Moran, nieces Ryanne Segalla and fiancé Ronald Vigliotti and Nicole Segalla, and many dear friends.

In keeping with Bill’s wishes, all services were private. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Thomas B. Kelly
Bradley Beach resident and longtime resident of Jersey City Thomas B. Kelly died Thursday, Nov. 12, at Jersey City Medical Center, Jersey City.

He was 77 years old.

Thomas had been employed as the second vice president in the auditing division of Chase Manhattan Bank, New York, for many years. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army. Thomas also was a founding member and had run the Monmouth and Ocean Counties Food Bank and had volunteered his time with Meals on Wheels.

Born and raised in Jersey City, he had resided in Neptune City from 1982 to 1997 before moving to Bradley Beach. As a resident of the shore, Thomas was an active member of the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach, and had belonged to the St. Vincent de Paul society and the Holy Name Society of Ascension Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 816, Mary Queen of Knights, Neptune City.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents Bernard F. and Anne [nee Hunter] Kelly, his brother Francis Xavier Kelly, and his two sisters, Margaret Kelly and Emily R. Kowalewski.

Surviving is his beloved sister Sr. Anne Bernard Kelly S.C. of St. Anne Villa, Convent Station, and 11 nieces and nephews and 23 great nieces and nephews.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.

In lieu of flowers kindly make a gift donation to the Development Office, Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station, NJ 07961-0476 in memory of Thomas B. Kelly.

George E. Ostrander
Howell Township resident George E. Ostrander, with family in Wall Township, died Friday, Nov. 13, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 74 years old.

Mr. Ostrander was born in Howell Township and was a lifelong resident of the area. In his early years, Mr. Ostrander was a skilled carpenter with his family’s contracting business, Walter M. Ostrander, Inc. He was also employed by a long time local builder Charles Megill. He was later employed by the state of New Jersey as an engineer at the Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center in Wall Township for 28 years, retiring in 1997.

Mr. Ostrander served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. George was a long time member of the Howell Men’s Bowling League and was a long time coach in the North Wall Little League. He was a volunteer assistant for many years for the Wall Township High School Bowling Team. Mr. Ostrander received much pleasure and enjoyment acting as a personal chauffeur for his two grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jan in 1993; a son, Glenn J. in 1999; a sister, Thelma Lashley in 2003 and his brother, Charles W. Ostrander in 2005.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael G. and JeanAnn Ostrander of Wall Township; his companion, Lucy Dugan of Howell; a sister, Lavina Ellis of Farmingdale, and two grandchildren, Danielle and Gregory and many nieces and nephews.

Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township, was in charge of arrangements.

For those who desire, memorial contributions in memory of George may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury 07702 or to the American Lung Association of NJ, 1600 Route 22 East, Union 07083.

Carol Ann Simpson
Belmar resident Carol Ann Simpson, formerly of Stony Brook Long Island, N.Y., passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

She was 66 years old.

Carol taught Spanish and English for over 40 years before retiring 3 years ago. Born in Harrisburg, Pa., she lived in Stony Brook for 39 years before moving to Belmar three years ago. Carol graduated from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and received a M.A. in education from S.U.N.Y Stony Brook.

She is survived by her husband Edward M. Simpson, her two sons, Edward B. Simpson of New York City and Matthew C. Simpson of Patchogue, N.Y., her daughter Courtney de Vomecourt of Maplewood, and three grandsons, Christopher Simpson and Justin and Eric de Vomecourt.

Internment was at Saint Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township. Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers donations to the saint Jude Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.

Ellen Maloney Fraites
Spring Lake Heights resident Ellen Maloney Fraites died Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 72 years old.

Born in Jersey City and raised in Union, Ellen lived in Cranford, Watchung and Sea Girt, after summering there for many years. She recently settled in Spring Lake Heights where she was an active member of the Fairway Mews community and member of the Spring Lake Golf Club. She was a graduate of Mount St. Mary’s Academy in Watchung, attended Immaculata College, Union County College and then received her Masters of Psychology from Kean University in Union. A longtime faculty member of Kean University, in 1974 Mrs. Fraites served as a Student Graduate Assistant and in 1977 she was named Counselor of Psychological Services. From 1978 until 1988, she served with distinction as Director of Affirmative Action and Political Consultant to the President of Kean University Nathan Weiss, before retiring in 1990. After retiring, she was named Adjunct Professor of Psychology. Mrs. Fraites was a member of the Planning Board in Cranford, the Mental Health Association of Union County.

She was predeceased by her husband of 23 years, Joseph Lionel Fraites and daughter, Ellen Fraites Wagner and her sister, Mary Zarinko.

She is survived by her children Ann Claire Gregory and her husband, David of Louisville, Tenn., Paul A. Curcio of Asbury Park, Joseph A. Curcio and his wife, Suzanne of Chatham Township, and their children, Robert and Amanda Curcio, Joseph Fraites and his wife, Deborah Fraites of Weston, Ct. and their children, Tatum and Lauren, Christopher Fraites and his wife, Roberta of Westfield and their children, Kristina, Charles and Adam, and Lisa Dworkin and her husband, Jamie of Far Hills and their children, Graham and Ellie. She also leaves her sister, Ann Cooke of Westfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean, 3300 Rt. 66, Neptune 07753.

Elisa Ferreira
Toms River resident Elisa Ferreira, formerly of Brick Township and with family in Wall Township, died Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 77 years old.

Mrs. Ferreira most recently was a clerk at Kmart in Brick. She was a devout catholic and was a communicant of both St. Dominic’s RC Church in Brick and St. Justin the Martyr in Toms River. She was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, the 3rd Order of Carmelites and the 3rd Order of St. Dominic.

Born in Salreu, Portugal, she came to the United States in 1945 and settled in Newark. She then moved to Brick for many years before moving to Toms River in 2005.

Mrs. Ferreira was predeceased by her husband Ernest in 2005.

Surviving are her son, Marco and his wife Rosa Ferreira of Wall, daughters Teresa Marron and her husband Richard of Toms River, Melissa Wood and her husband Craig of Brick and Susan Ferreira and her husband Marco Ferreira also of Toms River. She also leaves her brothers Eugene Almeida of North Arlington, Anthony Almeida of Brick, Altino DeAlmeida also of Brick and Sergio DeAlmeida of New Jersey and 11 beloved grandchildren.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Internment was held at St. Joseph’s cemetery in Toms River.
