Frank M. Takas
Point Pleasant resident Frank M. Takas died suddenly on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

He was 49 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, he grew up in Neptune and also had lived in Brick and Wall townships, moving to Point Pleasant 13 years ago.

A mechanic, Frank was the owner and operator of Frank’s Complete Auto Repair, West Belmar.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and was an avid sports enthusiast, golfer, and motorcycle aficionado.

He was predeceased by his mother, Ann L. Schweitzer Takas; and by his stepmother, Sheila Takas.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Theresa Fuentes Takas; five children, Ashley DeKany, Courtney Takas, Madyson Takas, Michael Takas and Nicole Takas-Carpenter; his brother, Joseph Takas and his wife, Amiie; his father, Frank E. Takas; two sisters, Debra Takas Clifford and her husband, Walter “John” and Lorraine “Lori” Takas Bohrer and her husband, John; a special nephew, Jayce Griggs; and several additional nieces and nephews.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant was in charge of arrangements.

As an expression of sympathy, contributions to the Takas children are suggested and would be appreciated.

Virginia L. “Ginny” Byron
Point Pleasant resident Virginia L. “Ginny” Byron died Sunday, Feb. 8 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 54 years old.

Ginny worked as a bank teller with Wachovia Bank, Point Pleasant for 15 years.

She was born and raised in Newark prior to moving to Point Pleasant 16 years ago.

She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Moose Lodge, Point Pleasant.

Surviving are her husband, Roy; a daughter, Erica and her husband, Dominick Berecsky, of Keansburg; a sister, Rose Marie Nausedas, of Brick; and two grandchildren, Dominick Jr. and Joseph.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at St. Martha’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant, followed by interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lakewood.

The Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick was in charge of arrangements.

William C. Meldrum
Point Pleasant resident William C. Meldrum died Tuesday, Jan. 27 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 54 years old.

Mr. Meldrum was born and raised in Point Pleasant. He was a commercial fisherman, captain and part owner of the Lydia J. fishing boat in Point Pleasant Beach. He was also a share member of the Point Pleasant Fisherman’s Cooperative in Point Pleasant Beach.

Mr. Meldrum loved NASCAR and was a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings.

He is predeceased by his mother and father, William and Mary Lou Meldrum; and his stepmother, Anna Jane Meldrum.

He is survived by his wife, the former Isabel O’Donovan; two brothers, Craig, of Howell Township and David Robert, of Point Pleasant; five sisters, Linda and Carol Meldrum and Donna Deery, all of Florida, Janet Dzielinksi, of North Dakota and Kathy Meachem, of Brick; an aunt, Mildred Meldrum, of Virginia; his cousins, Harvey Meldrum, of Manasquan and Danny Meldrum, of Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viewing hours will be on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Highway 88, Brick. A funeral service will be offered on Monday at 10 a.m. at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Point Pleasant Beach. Private cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers donations to either the Point Pleasant First Aid Squad, 1200 Beaver Dam Road, Point Pleasant, 08742 or St. Gregory’s Food Pantry at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Bay Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach, 08742 would be appreciated.

Mae E. Marks
Point Pleasant resident Mae E. Marks died Thursday, Jan. 22.

She was 74 years old.

Mrs. Marks was born in Neptune, raised in Howell and resided in Point Pleasant for 40 years. Mrs. Marks spent her years taking care of her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Bertha Brown. She is also predeceased by her husband, John S. Marks.

She is the beloved mother of Patricia Davis, of Point Pleasant, and John Marks, of Toms River, and her grandchildren, Michelle, John, Geoffrey, and Amanda will also miss her. She also leaves behind her brothers, Leonard, of Brick, and Robert, of Lakewood; and a sister, Joan, of Florida. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

The Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, was in charge of arrangements. Internment took place at the Greenville Cemetery, Lakewood.

Jean Buchanan Decker
Brick resident Jean Buchanan Decker, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Jan. 22 at the Meridian Hospice in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 83 years old.

Born in Montclair, to the late Archibald and Jean Buchanan, she was raised in Bloomfield and lived in the Point Pleasant and Brick area for 20 years.

Jean worked as a legal secretary in northern New Jersey. She retired from the Meridian Heath Care System, where she worked as an operator at Ocean Medical Center and as a receptionist at Meridian Home Care & Hospice, Wall.

She was a former member of the Daughters of Scotia and the B.P.O. Elks, Point Pleasant.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Decker.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter, Dale Gross and her husband, Fred, of Brick; two grandchildren, Heather Applegate and Rick Applegate and his wife, Jennifer; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin Warren and Brayton Andrew Applegate.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements. Cremation was held privately.

As an expression of sympathy, donations made to Meridian Hospice at Ocean Medical Center are suggested.

L. Henry DiGirolamo
Point Pleasant resident L. Henry DiGirolamo Jan. 24, 2009 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township.

He was 84 years old.

Born and raised in Newark, he graduated from Garfield Grammer School, St. Benedict’s Prep and entered Notre Dame University where he was in the Naval R.O.T.C. prior to being called to active duty.

He served for two years as a quartermaster on a crash boat in the Pacific. Returning from active duty, he graduated from Notre Dame University in 1948 and then entered the family business, DiGirolamo Construction Company of Newark. He served as a president until his retirement in 2005.

Hank was instrumental as founder and board member of the Essex County Masons and the Middlesex County Masons welfare and pension funds. He also sat on the board for the New Jersey Carpenters Fund.

He married the love of his life, Petrina, in 1947. They together lived in Livingston and raised their three children.

He served as president of the Lions Club and organizer and founder of its annual easter egg hunt. He also was an active member of The Knights Of Columbus, VFW and the Holy Name Society of St. Philomena’s.

His love of boating and summers in Manasquan brought him to settle in Point Pleasant in 2002. His extensive travel itinerary took him to places all over the world but his home away from home would always be Italy.

He is survived by his three children, Mary Ellen and her husband, Raymond Marage, of Marietta, Ga., his son, Henry and his wife, Marisol, of Morris Plains, and his son Carl and his wife, Kathy, of Chester; as well as his grandchildren, John Carlo DiGirolamo and Melissa Petrina DiGirolamo; as well as his younger brother, Frank DiGirolamo, of Point Pleasant; and his brother-in-law, Ralph Pollara, of Livingston.

The Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston, was in charge of arrangements. Entombment took place at Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.

Memorial tributes and remembrances may be offered to the family at www.mem.com. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions in the memory of L. Henry Di Girolamo to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Walter H. Pierce
Point Pleasant resident Walter H. Pierce died Saturday, Jan. 24 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 61 years old.

Born in Waverly, N.Y., he had lived in Freehold before moving to Point Pleasant 34 years ago.

He was employed by the Freehold School District, Freehold as a building and grounds supervisor.

He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1973.

He was a member and deacon of Shore Christian Center, Wall Township.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy Manion Pierce; his father, Rev. Walter C. Pierce of Parish, Fla.; four daughters, Kimberly and Bill Raimondi, of Jackson, Kristine and Stephen Yellovich, of Brick, Karen and Brian Luff, of Beachwood, and Katherine Pierce, of Point Pleasant; a sister, Karen and Roy Harvey, of Brick; and five grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, Matthew, Allison and Kaitlyn.

Private cremation will be handled by Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

As an expression of sympathy, donations made to Shore Christian Center, 4041 Squankum Road, P. O. Box 515, Allenwood, 08720 are suggested.
