Lawrence Daidone
Lawrence H. Daidone, 83 years old of Aberdeen, NJ, died Friday, August 8, 2003 in Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, New Brunswick. He was Self Employed, and the original founder of Daidone Cleaners in 1953. He operated the business until retiring in 1983. He served in the Army during WWII in the 1st division and received many decorations including, American Defense Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, and the European-American-Middle Eastern Service Medal. He was born in Italy, and lived in Perth Amboy before moving to Aberdeen 8 years ago.

He was preceded in death by his parents Luigi and Corradina Daidone, and a brother Joseph Daidone..
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Katherine Daidone of Aberdeen, a Daughter & son-in-law, Corrine & Michael Collins of Hazlet, NJ, 2 Brothers, Enrico Daidone of Perth Amboy, NJ, and Eugene Daidone of Woodbridge, NJ, a Sister, Nella Bonarrigo of Perth Amboy, NJ, 2 Grandchildren, Kevin Collins, and Elyse Collins, .

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9, Sunday, August 10 at the at the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, 501 Highway 79, Morganville, NJ.

Services will be held at St. Clements Church, Matawan, Monday, August 11, 2003 at 11:00AM

Entombment will follow in the Clover Leaf Park Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ.

Mary McGovern O’Malley
Avon by the sea resident Mary McGovern O’Malley died Friday, December 12 at Care One Nursing Center in Wall.

She was 89 years old.

Born and raised in Trenton, she was the only child of the late Patrick and Helen Regan McGovern. She attended Trenton State Teachers College [now The College of New Jersey]. In 1942, she married Charles A. O’Malley. They settled in Manasquan after the end of World War II, raising their family in Manasquan and Brielle.

Mrs. O’Malley worked for many years for the New Jersey Department of Labor’s Employment Service at the Asbury Park office and other locations throughout the state. She retired in 1983 as an Office Manager for the Employment Service and then was a consultant for Gates McDonald on benefits issues.

Her creativity was legendary among her family and friends. Everything she did, whether it was sewing, knitting, interior decorating or entertaining was done perfectly and in the latest style. A woman of strong opinions, Mrs. O’Malley had a deep faith in God, a pride in her family heritage in Skibereen, County Cork, Ireland and an abiding belief in the promise and power of the American dream. She was a lifelong Democrat.

Mary was predeceased by her husband in 1969 and her youngest daughter, Kathleen Bridget O’Malley, who died at the age of two in 1955.

She is survived by her daughter Suellen Waters of Red Bank, her daughter Bonnie Barry and her husband Jim of Brielle, her son Charles and his wife Sharon of Brielle, and her son Patrick and his wife Caroline of Summit. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, who will always remember her with love as “Mimi, ” Regan, Courtney, and John Waters; Conor and Austin O’Malley; and Tara, Clare and Kevin O’Malley.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 3-8 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, Dec. 15 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s RC Church, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake. Burial will be in St Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Avon First Aid Squad, P.O. 1, Avon by the Sea, 07717 in her memory.

Judith Minervini Russo
Spring Lake resident Judith Minervini Russo died Wednesday, Dec. 10 at the Neptune Rehabilitation Center in Neptune.

She was 90 years old.

Born in Dover, Mrs. Russo resided in Wayne and Brick where she lived until her relocation in 2002 to Spring Lake. Mrs. Russo was employed for various companies in the Patterson area as an accountant and also as a teacher of accounting. She was also the president of the Lions Head Travel Club located in Brick.

Mrs. Russo was predeceased in 2005 by her beloved husband Sylvester Russo.

She is survived by her daughters Judith Hawkinson and her husband Erik of Woodstown, Joyce Lavender and her husband Daniel of Wall, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Visitation was held at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home in Wall. A funeral service was held there Friday with internment to follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. Contributions in Judith’s name may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

Alexander Johnstone Jr.
Howell resident Alexander Johnstone Jr., formerly of Manasquan, died Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Kensington Manor in Toms River.

He was 81 years old.

Mr. Johnstone was born in Linden and lived in Manasquan most of his life before moving to Howell.

Al was employed with AT&T Bell Labs in Holmdel as a pipe fitter. He also was a longtime bartender at the Osprey and a former Dock Master in Manasquan.

After his retirement, he worked as a security officer in Monmouth Park. Al was a Navy veteran of WWII and an original founding member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge No. 2532.

He is predeceased by his wife Norma Johnstone and his grandson James Chevalier.

Surviving are his daughters Cynthia and her husband Richard Marvulli of Howell and Donna Chevalier of Brick. He is also survived by his brother James Johnstone, his sister Jean Breza, and three grandchildren: Kenneth and Angela Marvulli and Heather Chevalier.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan. Internment was held at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Wall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Valerie Fund, Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch 07740.

Warren Buckland
Warren C. Buckland, 97 years old, of Morganville, NJ, died August 20, 2003 at Victoria House, Matawan, NJ. He was born and lived in College Point, New York, moved to Basking Ridge, NJ in 1942 and to Morganville in 1962. He received an AB degree, Magna Cum Laude from Washington Square College of New York University. He was awarded the Pi Mu Epsilon, honorary mathematics award. He was a member of the Technical Staff of Bell Telephone Laboratories for 46 years. After retirement he taught mathematics and physics at Freehold Regional High School for 5 years. He was a Red Cross volunteer water safety and small craft instructor for 40 years. He was a member of the Garden State Chapter of the American Marquetry Society and did considerable work in making wood marquetry inlay pictures and furniture. He was a descendant of William Buckland who settled in Hingham, MA in 1635. He survived his wife, Margaret, who died in 1975 and his second wife, Wilhelmine, who died in 1998. He is survived by a daughter, Joan Machinchick and husband Robert of Annapolis, MD; a granddaughter, Lynn Hayden and husband Thomas of Lawrenceburg, TN; and a great-granddaughter, Jessica Mitchem of Bradenton, FL.

Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4PM at the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, Morganville, NJ. Funeral and burial will be private.

Marion W. Fees
Freehold resident Marion W. Fees, formerly of Point Pleasant died Tuesday, Dec. 9, at the Applewood’s Estate in Freehold.

She was 90 years old.

Born in Manhattan, N.Y., she lived in Pt. Pleasant most of her life before moving to Freehold 18 years ago.

Mrs. Fees was a bookkeeper for the Manasquan Liquor Store in Manasquan for 30 years before retiring. She played the cello with the New York Symphony Orchestra and was the secretary to Armand Hammer, the famous industrialist of the 1930’s.

Mrs. Fees was predeceased by her husband Ralph in 1984.

She is survived by her son Vernon of Brownsmills, N.J.

Cremation will be private. The Neary Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street in Manasquan was in charge of arrangements.

Martin J. Moran Jr.
Belmar resident Martin J. Moran Jr. died Tuesday, Dec. 9.

He was 80 years old.

Born in Lyndhurst to Martin and Edna Moran, Martin Jr. has been a long time resident of the shore area where he helped to raise his three children, Martin III, Patricia and Eileen. Mr. Moran worked for Eastern Airlines as the Chief Bursar until his retirement.

Martin is survived by his children; son Martin III and wife Angela of Port Orange, Fla., daughter Patty and husband Michael Ligato of Wall, and daughter Eileen and husband Jonathan of Point Pleasant; as well as his grandchildren Alyssa, Sara, and Aidan.

Funeral Mass was held at St. Catharine’s Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donation of an unwrapped toy to the charity of your choice. Arrangements were under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Beatrice Insalaco
Salvatrice Beatrice Insalaco, 88 years old of Morganville, NJ, died Sunday, August 17, 2003 in Bayshore Community Hospital. She was a seamstress. She loved flowers, cooking, sewing, her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Peter, in 2000.

Surviving are her two sons and daughter-in-laws, Louis and Pia Insalaco of Morganville, NJ, Joseph and Antoinette Insalaco of Staten Island, NY, a sister, Francis Cusumano of Whitestone, NY, three grandchildren, Peter, Mirella and her husband Richard Rosano, and Peter and his wife Jennifer, two great grandchildren Joseph and Anthony.

Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9, Wednesday, August 20 at the at the Waitt-Nelms Funeral Home, Morganville, NJ. Services will be held at St Gabriel's, Thursday, August 21, 2003 at 10:00am, with Father Jacob Thumma officating,
Interment will follow in Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

Michael Fontana
Wall Township resident Michael Fontana died Monday, Nov. 3 in his home.

He was 39 years old.

Born in the Bronx, N.Y., Michael was a talented, self-employed entrepreneur who resided in Wall for 22 years.

Michael was predeceased by his father, Joseph Fontana, on Oct. 3.

Michael is survived by his beloved mother, Dolores Vacherelli Fontana, of Wall, and his brothers: Joseph Fontana, his wife, Antoinette, and their son, Joey; Salvatore Fontana and his wife, Sylvia; Neil Fontana and his wife, Lois; and Jim Fontana. He is also survived by his sister, Dee Fitzgerald, her husband, Ken, and their children, Katie, Kenny, D.J. and Kelli.

A special son, brother, uncle, and godfather, Michael’s love for his nieces and nephews and zest for life will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home in Wall [adjacent to the Route 18 North entrance]. At 5:30 p.m., funeral services will be offered at the funeral home with Fr. Brian Butch of Holy Innocents Church, Neptune, officiating.

Fr. Edward O’Connor
Spring Lake Heights resident Rev. Edward Thomas O’Connor died on Saturday, Nov. 1 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

He was 90 years old.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Thomas P. and Anne Carey O’Connor, and was baptized in St. Patrick’s Church in Brooklyn.

He attended Cathedral College and the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception in Huntington, N.Y. Fr. O’Connor was ordained to the priesthood at St. James-Pro Cathedral by Bishop Thomas Molloy on April 11, 1944. Fr. O’Connor was assigned as associate pastor at St. Peter Alcantara, Port Washington, N.Y., Our Lady of the Presentation, Brooklyn, St. Thomas Aquinas, Brooklyn, and St. Joan of Arc, Jackson Heights, before being named pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brooklyn, where he served from 1974 until his retirement as pastor emeritus in 1990.

Fr. O’Connor was a member of the Council of Neighborhood Organizations from 1980 until 1990. In his retirement, he served the parish family of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s in Spring Lake and St. Christopher’s Church in Hobe Sound, Fla.

Fr. O’Connor was predeceased by his parents, Thomas P. and Anne O’Connor.

He is survived by many loving cousins, both here and in Ireland.

Today, Thursday, Nov. 6, Fr. O’Connor will lie in repose at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brooklyn, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11 a.m., followed by burial at St. John’s Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of Fr. O’Connor to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.
