Ruth T. Woolley
Ruth T. Woolley, of Spring Lake Heights, died Monday, Oct. 13 at the Geraldine Thompson Home in Allenwood.

She was 90 years old.

Born in Manasquan, Mrs. Woolley lived there until she moved to Spring Lake Heights 66 years ago.

Mrs. Woolley was a homemaker. She was a member and past president of the Spring Lake Heights Ladies Auxiliary Independent Fire Company No. 1, a member of Spring Lake Leisure Group, and a volunteer at the Gerladine Thompson Home. She attended St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Spring Lake, and was a member of its Rebecca Circle.

Mrs. Woolley was predeceased by her husband, William Augustus, in 1992, and her parents, Arthur Thompson and Ella Shinn, of Manasquan.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Dee “Trishah” Woolley, her son, Robert “Shad” Woolley, his wife, Michele Swanson-Woolley, and two grandchildren, Levi and Kieran Swanson, all of 602 Mercer Avenue, Spring Lake Heights, NJ 07762.

Funeral services were held at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan on Saturday. Internment took place at Glendola cemetery in Wall Township.

James T. Gagen
Avon resident James T. Gagen died Monday, Oct. 20 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

He was 78 years old.

Tom was born in Spring Lake at Ann May Hospital. He spent his career in the U.S. Army and was a commissioned chief warrant officer CW4. After his discharge, he ran the family business, Gagen Printing Co. He also worked for Brookdale Community College at Camp Evans.

Tom was a life member of the Avon Fire Department, having served as chief in 1960. He took great pride in honoring deceased firemen with Memorial Day markers for over 50 years. He was a life member of Avon First Aid Squad, having served as sergeant and vice president in 1959.

He was a member of: the American Legion, China Post 1, Worldwide, Houston [life member]; La Societe des 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux, Voiture Locale 1496, Menton France; the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association [life member]; New Jersey State Exempt Firemen’s Association, [life member] serving as legislative committee member, and Monmouth County executive committeeman from 2005 until the present; South Monmouth County Fire Chiefs Association; and a life member of the Monmouth County Firemen’s Association, the Monmouth County Exempt Firemen’s Association, and charter life member No. 29 of the Association of the United States Army Warrant Officers Association.

He was predeceased by his son, James T. Gagen III.

Surviving are: his wife of 48 years, Yvonne Valle Gagen; a son, Thomas S. Gagen, of Howell; a daughter, Venisse T. Gagen Delle Monache, of Fairfield; a brother, John P. Gagen, of Avon; a sister, Betty Anne Moak, of Bridgeton; and two beloved grandchildren, Terese and Gregory Gagen.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, at St. Elizabeth’s Church, in Avon. Following that, friends and relatives are invited to the Avon Fire House, where refreshments will be served. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Avon Fire Department, Main Street, Avon, NJ 07717, the Avon First Aid, P.O. Box 3, Avon, NJ 07717, or the American Lung Association, 1600 Route 22 East, Union, NJ 07083, would be appreciated.

Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, is in charge of arrangements.

Maurise A. Tully
Wall Township resident Maurise A. Tully passed away Thursday, Oct. 16 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

She was 75 years old.

Mrs. Tully was born in Nutley and lived in West Caldwell before moving to Manasquan 40 years ago.

Maurise was a homemaker and a communicant of St. Denis Church in Manasquan.

She is predeceased by her husband, Walter, in 2002.

Surviving are her sons, Walter J. Tully, of Wall, and Jeffrey W. Tully, of Avon.

She is also survived by her two brothers, Warren and Howard Potter, and her three sisters: Sue Potter, Gerri Potter, and Joan Nutto.

A memorial gathering was held last night at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan. Internment will take place today at 10 a.m. at Greenwood cemetery in Brielle.

Dorothy Mary Hughes
Belmar resident Dorothy Mary Hughes died Oct. 20 at Care One at Wall.

She was 83 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School in Union City. Mrs. Hughes moved to the Shore area in 1961.

Mrs. Hughes worked as a switchboard operator at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch for 20 years before retiring.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack, her sons, Dennis and Mark, and her brother, John McGowan.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by her beloved children, Terry Krieger and John Hughes, and three sisters: Margie Reilly, Lillian Coughlin, and Gladys Maxwell

Mrs. Hughes also leaves 14 devoted grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated today, Thursday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Rose, at 603 Seventh Avenue in Belmar. Those attending are asked to meet at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mrs. Hughes can be made to a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home in Wall Township.

Mary A. Falk
Red Bank resident Mary A. Falk, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, Sunday, Sept. 7, in Care One Nursing Home, Holmdel.

She was 88 years old.

Mrs. Falk was born in Montclair and resided in Caldwell for 30 years before moving to Red Bank 16 years ago.

She was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Falk; three brothers, John Regan Jr., Edward Regan and Thomas Regan; and a sister, Elizabeth Vanarelli.

Surviving are her son, Edward Falk and his wife, Marilyn, of Point Pleasant, and Florida; her daughter, Rosemary Zolnowski and her husband, Raymond, of Red Bank; three grandchildren, Karen Zolnowski, Pamela Savoy and Susan Cappock; and three great-grandchildren, Eddie, Matt and Kelly.

The John E. Day Funeral Home, Red Bank, was in charge of arrangements. Interment took place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Upper Montclair.

Elizabeth Schumacher Hanrahan
Ocean County resident Elizabeth Schumacher Hanrahan, fondly called Betsy throughout her lifetime, died Tuesday, Sept. 9 in her home.

He was 73 years old.

She was born in Hackensack, on Nov. 1, 1935 to Hiram and Miriam Schumacher.

Elizabeth grew up in Bogota, before moving to Ocean County in 1968.

She was a devoted and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and she was the youngest of three sisters.

Elizabeth’s life revolved around her eight children and 17 grandchildren. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren. She was the center of all family gatherings and holiday dinners. She was a nurturer, caretaker, confidante, problem-solver, peacekeeper, and batting coach. She gave us fond memories of summer at the beach house with the family.

Her kindness was ever present and her wisdom boundless. She was an avid book reader and history buff.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years David W.; her sons David and his wife, Victoria, Edward and his wife, Kayleen, Thomas, Christopher and his wife, Laurie, William and his wife, Susan and Joseph and his wife, Wendy. She is also survived by her daughters Anne McManus, Carolyn Kline and her husband, Brian; her sisters, Marilyn Johnson and Jean De Martino and her husband, Vince; and her grandchildren, Joshua and his wife, Lisa, Christine, Lauryn, Matthew, Patrick, Robin, Sean, Jeffrey, Justin, Leah, Haley, Ryan, Derek, Katherine, Benjamin, Logan and Alexander.

The Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was private.

William M. Munn Sr.
Florida resident William M. Munn Sr., formerly of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Aug. 28, in his home.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he immigrated to the U.S. at age 3. He was the son of Agnes and Oliver Munn.

Mr. Munn served with distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded seven Bronze Stars, one Silver Star and the Purple Heart.

Mr. Munn was employed by the A&P for 40 years and Publix for 12 years.

He was predeceased by his identical twin brother, James Munn Sr.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Pauline Munn; two sons, William Jr. and Robert and daughter-in-law, Eileen; a daughter, Nancy Munn Patten; a stepson, David Raffino; a stepdaughter, Susan Geotz; and eight grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 at the Harvey Memorial Church, Arnold Avenue, Point Pleasant.

Carl Thomas Bopp
Moorhead, Minn. resident Carl Bopp, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, in Eventide Living Center, Moorhead, Minn.

He was 91 years old.

Carl Thomas Bopp was born Jan. 11, 1917 in Scotch Plains and was a son of Frances Xavier and Anne Suppe Bopp. He attended school in Scotch Plains.

Carl went on to serve as an amphibious mechanic in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, with a rank of sergeant.

Carl married Adele Poliseo on Nov. 19, 1938. He worked at Steve’s Garage and Aamco, until his retirement in 1987. They lived in Scotch Plains and Crestwood Village in Whiting before moving to Moorhead in 2004. Carl was active in various United Methodist churches.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Frank; and six sisters, Ida, Margaret, Dorothy, Frances, Louise and Anna.

Carl is survived by his wife, Adele; two sons, David and his wife, Janet Bopp, of Point Pleasant Beach, and Richard and his wife, Wendy Bopp, of Indian Wells, Calif.; a brother-in-law, Joseph and his wife, Violet Poliseo, of Elmira, N.Y.; a sister-in-law, Jane Eron, of Whiting; eight grandchildren, Janet and her husband, Jay Drechsel, of Fargo, N.D., Paul and his wife, Julie Grove, of Columbus, Ohio, Susan and her husband, Eugene Bounds, of Alexandria, Va., Karen and her husband, Shawn Hickey, of Columbus, Ohio, Jason Bopp of San Francisco, Richard Bopp, of South Plainfield, Melinda Ruiz, of Branchburg, and Christopher Bopp, of Somerville; seven great-grandchildren, William and Katherine Drechsel, Vanessa and Jonathan Grove, Charles Bounds and Brendan and Colin Hickey; two nephews, Andru Eron and William Poliseo; and a niece, Jane Poliseo.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Parish Nurse Ministries and Stephen’s Ministries at First United Methodist Church, Fargo, ND.

Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, N.D., was in charge of arrangements.
