Charlotte Rose Palmer
Neptune resident Charlotte Rose Palmer, whose children live in Point Pleasant Beach, died Wednesday, September 7 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 73 years old.

Mrs. Palmer was a lifelong resident of Neptune.

She was employed for 20 years as a cook with various healthcare facilities.

She was a devoted mother who was a “Mom” before anything else. She loved all of her 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and the time she was able to spend with them. She also loved to crochet, play bingo and watch her soap operas.

She was predeceased in 2001 by her husband, Americus “Bud” Palmer, Jr.; by her three baby brothers, and her brother, Charles, in 1976.

Surviving are two sons, David, Point Pleasant Beach, and Tommy Wall Township; four daughters, Ronna Frank, of North Carolina, Suzanne Martinez, Point Pleasant Beach, Patricia Palmer, Wall, and Dawn Palmer, Lakewood; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall.

Contributions in Mrs. Palmer’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 19 Schoolhouse Rd., Somerset, 08873.

Dorothy E. Cotta
Wall Township resident Dorothy E. Cotta, whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Sept.10 in Ocean County Medical Center, Brick Township.

She was 75 years old.

Born and raised in Montclair, Mrs. Cotta lived in Wall for 58 years.

She was employed for many years as a clerk with Atlantic Farms, Wall, until her passing.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Clayton, many years ago.

Surviving are five sons and daughters-in-law, Brian T. and Catherine, Wall; Douglas S. and Wendy, Point Pleasant; Jay A. and Teresa, Brick; Kevin D. and Lisa, Farmingdale; and Christopher R. and Carol, Wall; three daughters and one son-in-law, Jan A. Cotta, Robin E. and James Wilson; and Tracey B. Cotta, all of Wall; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Contributions in Mrs. Cotta’s memory may be made to the Development Department at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Charles B. Wang International Children’s Building, 699 Price St., Alexandria, VA 22314-3157.

Robert Fielding Smith
Lavallette resident Robert Fielding Smith died Wednesday, Sept. 7 in Community Medical Center, Toms River, after a valiant battle with prostate cancer.

He was 85 years old.

Mr. Smith was a native of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., and lived most of his life in Ossining, N.Y., before retiring to Seven Lakes, N.C. He summered every year since the 1940s in Lavallette and became a permanent Lavallette summer resident in 1988.

He was a self-employed sales representative, owning his own company for many years.

He played baseball with the Mount Vernon Scarlets before being drafted by the New York Yankees, playing for their farm team in various states.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater.

He was a life member of over 48 years of the Elks Lodge, and a member of the VFW, the Masonic Fraternal Order, and the Association of Professional Ball Players of America since 1942.

He was an avid golfer.

He was predeceased in 1997 by both his wife of 54 years, Marie L. Flanigan Smith, and his daughter, Lois B. Fuller.

Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Susanne and Ed Stanley, Destrehan, La.; one sister, Helen Trifari, Amityville, N.Y., a grandson and his wife, Christopher and Danielle Stanley, Jacksonville, Fla.; a granddaughter and her husband, Allison and David Angelica, Metairie, La.; a nephew, Robert Burke, Merrick, N.Y.; and two great-grandsons, Luke and Carson Stanley.

Lurda B. Barusich
Point Pleasant Beach resident Lurda Bogdesich Barusich died Saturday, Sept. 10 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

She was 92 years old.

Born in Bashka, Croatia, Mrs. Barusich lived in North Bergen and had summered in the Point Pleasant area for over 23 years before becoming a permanent resident 37 years ago.

She was a homemaker.

She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was a member of her church’s choral group in Bashka, Croatia.

Surviving are her husband, Mike Barusich; one son, John, Middle Island, N.Y.; one daughter and son-in-law, Olga and James Sgambettera, Edison; her brother, Vinko Bogdesich, of Croatia; three grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Kathleen, Mark and his fiancee Kate, and Paul, along with his mother, Rita Barusich; and three great-grandchildren, Grace, Gabriel, and Eva.

Funeral arrangements were from the Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

Daniel John Rizzolo
Point Pleasant resident Daniel “Danny” John Rizzolo, died Saturday, Sept. 10 in the Forum.

He was 86 years old.

Danny was born in Kearny.

He was a career merchant seaman and served in the Navy from 1939 to 1945.

He was a member of VFW Post No. 4715, Point Pleasant, and of the SS Stoddard DD566.

Danny may have been rough around the edges but he had the kindest heart.

Surviving are his sister, Janet R. Rizzolo Kunz; a sister-in-law, Makie Rizzolo; and his loving nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the McGilley & Hoge Chapel, Overland Park, Kan. Danny’s love of the sea is calling him back and this is where he will be put to rest. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Florence D. Faber
Point Pleasant resident Florence Demarest Faber died Friday, Sept. 9.

She was 93 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Faber was a lifelong resident, moving to Point Pleasant one year ago.

She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry.

Surviving are her cousins, Charles Gorrie, Point Pleasant Beach, and Patricia Vail, Point Pleasant; and other family members, Susan and John Vail, and Alexis and Nicholas Vail-Stein.

Funeral arrangements were from the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Murray Skydell
Delray Beach, Fla., resident Murray Skydell, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Friday, Sept. 9 in his home.

He was 80 years old.

Born in Chicago, Mr. Skydell lived in Somerville, Point Pleasant and Toms River before moving to Delray Beach.

He was a 1942 graduate of Somerville High School, and a 1949 graduate of Rutgers University. He attended the University of Maine.

He was employed for 19 years as a sporting goods salesman. He purchased, along with his wife, Skydell Stationers in 1972, a business started by his family in the early 1930s, and owned it until 1985. They also owned Bea Skydell’s Dolls, Middlesex, and a collectible dolls and bears mail order business.

Murray was always an active member of the communities in which he lived and always dedicated to his Jewish values. He was a charter member of Temple Sholom, Bridgewater, a member of Temple Beth Or, Brick Township, and of Temple Emeth, Delray Beach, He was a past president of Temple Beth Or Men’s Club, delivered kosher meals on wheels for Temple Beth Or, and conducted a Yiddish Club there.

He was he was past commander of the 26th Division 104th Regiment of the Veterans Association, a past president of the Somerville Downtown Merchants Association, a member of the Somerset Players, a reader for the Meridan Adult Day Care Center, Brick, and a member of SCORE.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1943 to 1946 in the 26th Infantry Div. 104th Regt. He was a Purple Heart recipient.

He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Rose Skydell.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, Beatrice; two sons, Jeffrey and Richard; one daughter, Ann Harmon; a sister, Shirley Brenner, Woonsocket, R.I.; and four granddaughters, Lindsay, Alanna, Jessica and Devon.

Funeral arrangements were from the Belkoff Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood.

Contributions in Murray’s memory may be made to Temple Beth Or, 200 Van Zile Rd., Brick, or to Katrina Relief through the Jewish Federation of Ocean County, 301 Madison Ave., Lakewood, 08701.
