Joanne Siegel Grote
Brick resident Joanne Siegel Grote, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant Beach, died Friday, July 8 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 71 years old.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, she lived there for 21 years, and in Fanwood for 30 years, before moving to Brick 20 years ago.

Music was a large part of her life and while living in Fanwood, Mrs. Grote was a piano teacher, giving private lessons for 20 years.

She was the beloved chairperson of the music department of the Women’s Club of Brielle and was first vice president of the Metedeconk Questors.

She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Siegel.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Robert; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Christine, of Lancaster, Pa.; her daughters and sons-in-law, Betsy and Michael Lozito, of Scotch Plains, and Tracy and Joseph Fritsche, of Point Pleasant Beach; and her grandchildren Robert, Matthew, Joseph, Emma, Megan and Ashlee.

Funeral arrangements were by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Women’s Club of Brielle, P.O. Box 502, Brielle, 08730, to establish a music scholarship in Mrs. Grote’s memory.

Margaret Kern Confroy
Margaret Kern Confroy, whose sister lives in Bay Head, died Monday, July 11 in Absecon Manor.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Confroy lived in Cranford and in Manalapan. She was most recently a resident of Byron Hall in Absecon Manor.

She had worked at Prudential, American Car Company and also as a bank teller for Suburban Bank in Cranford. Her last position from which she retired was at Brunswick Bank and Trust as an NCR operator.

She was a member of St. Thomas Moore Roman Catholic Church of Manalapan, where she served as an eucharistic minister, taught CCD and was a member of the Renew group. She initiated the reorganization of the Rosary Society at St. Thomas Moore. She was also a member of the Christian Neighbor Group from Covered Bridge.

Mrs. Confroy was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Sophie Kern; her husband, Arthur Confroy; three brothers, Harry, Charles and Andrew Kern; and a sister, Sophie Reuss.

Surviving are her loving daughters, Margaret Wiegers and her husband James, of Manalapan, and Karen Throckmorton, of Northfield; her devoted sister, Elizabeth Hurley, of Bay Head; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Kern, of Kenilworth. She was also survived by her four grandchildren, James C. Wiegers and his wife Anne Marie of Furlong, Pa., Scott Wiegers and his wife Theresa of Brick, Tara Flaherty and her husband Kevin of Galloway, and Kevin Throckmorton of Smithville. She also leaves behind four great-grandchildren and many nieces.

Funeral arrangements were provided by the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home in Manalapan.

Evelyn Johnson Sadowski
Point Pleasant native Evelyn Johnson Sadowski died Tuesday, July 12 in Ridgecrest Manor, DeLand, Fla.

She was 85 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant, Mrs. Sadowski lived in Sandy Creek, N. Y. before moving to DeLand in 1992.

She was the owner and operator of the Pink House Bed and Breakfast in Sandy Creek, N.Y. before retiring after 15 years of service.

She had memberships in the local Moose, Eastern Star, Eagles and the V.F.W. Auxiliary clubs.

She is survived by two sons, Gilbert LaRue, of DeLand, Fla. and Carl Sadowski, of Matthews, N.C.; five daughters, Shirley L. Klein, of Deland, Fla., Caroll L. Klein, of Ft. Worth, Texas, Frances L. Angles, of Glendale, Ariz., Doris Walsh, of Norwalk, Ohio, and Joan Raleigh, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla; 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were provided by Lankford Funeral Homes & Crematory in DeLand, Fla.

Family suggests that donations be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare at 770 North Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174 in her honor.

Frances “Fran” Adams Murray
Brielle resident Frances “Fran” Adams Murray, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday June 23 in Care One, Wall, following a brief illness.

She was 81 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, Mrs. Murray lived in Verona for most of her childhood and adult life before moving to Brielle in 1986.

She taught second grade at St. Aloysius in Caldwell for 10 years.

Mrs. Murray was the president of the Mothers’ Club at Essex Catholic High School in Newark, where her four sons attended high school. While residing in Brielle, she also served as president of Bayberry Garden Club. She also participated in a bowling league at Sea Girt Lanes.

She was a participant in the Cana movement and the Rosary Altar Society at Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Verona for many years. Mrs. Murray was also a lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Denis Church in Manasquan.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anastasia and Frank Adams and her youngest child, Michael, in 1983.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Thomas; three sons, Richard of Barnegat, Kenneth and his wife, Jill, of San Diego, Calif., and Thomas III and his wife, Katherine, of Salem, Mass.; two daughters, Kathleen Murray-Nolan and her husband, J. Michael Nolan Jr., of Gladstone and Normandy Beach, and Maureen Murray of Point Pleasant; two sisters Beatrice Schooley of Ocean Township and Mary Ann McCarthy of Poquoson, Va.; 14 grandchildren, Keith, Todd and Andrew Murray, Megan Murray, William, Elizabeth, Stephen and Brendan Murray, Sean, Gwyneth and Michaela Murray-Nolan, and Matthew, Kyle and Molly Greninger; and a great-grandson due in September, along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were provided by the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, in Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations can be made to the Bayberry Garden Club, 917 Teaberry Lane, Brielle, NJ 08730-1232.

Catherine M. Mullins Kilcullen
Point Pleasant resident Catherine M. Mullins Kilcullen died Monday, July 11 in Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.

She was 77 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she lived in Carlstadt before moving to Point Pleasant Beach about 15 years ago.

Mrs. Kilcullen worked in the Wall Street area of New York City for the National Bank of New York in the mail room from the mid-1940s to the early-1950s. She also worked for S. Gumpert Co., Jersey City from 1962 to 1975. She worked for Jacquin’s Liquor Co., Jersey City as a clerk from 1979 to 1988. After that, Mrs. Kilcullen took care of her mother during the week, coming home to her husband on weekends.

She was a former member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, East Rutherford, former member of St. Joseph’s Rosary Altar Society for over 25 years and a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Kilcullen, former tax collector and councilman of Carlstadt.

Surviving are four sisters, Sr. Mary Alicia Mullins, S.C. of St. Peter’s Hospital, Paterson, Helen D. Mullins of Point Pleasant Beach, Loretta Doyle of Old Bridge, and Annette Lucioni of Brick; and 14 nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, in Point Pleasant Beach.

Charles ‘Crabgrass Charlie’ Plochock
Manasquan resident Charles “Crabgrass Charlie” Plochock died suddenly Sunday, May 15 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, after a brief illness.

He was 60 years old.

Born in Orange, he lived in Roseland and then Manasquan for approximately 25 years. A Montclair State College graduate, Mr. Plochock was a defensive end on the football team. He was a bartender at Tierney’s, Montclair, and other bars in the shore area for years. His family spent many summers in Lavallette where he was a lifeguard. An avid reader and history buff, Mr. Plocock would read for hours on the beach. His family thought the History Channel was broadcast just for him. Mr. Plochock began his career as a high school history teacher, and was part-owner of the Manasquan Weight Room. He loved the outdoors and worked as a landscaper in later years.

He is survived by his companion Jane Harrison and his beloved “knucklehead” Quigley.

Harry B. Tilton
Brick Township resident Harry Brockhurst Tilton, formerly of Bay Head, died Friday, May 13 in the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Philadelphia.

He was 65 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Tilton grew up in West Allenhurst and Bay Head. He moved to Brick three years ago, and spent the last 10 years wintering in Naples, Fla.

He was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University.

He retired 10 years ago as an administrator with the Plumsted Township Board of Education, where he taught for many years.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head.

He was a member of the NJEA.

He was an Army veteran, serving during peacetime.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Mary Ellen Lynch Tilton, one daughter and son-in-law, Kathlyn and Leon Pietrusiak, Keyport; two brothers, Edmund, Point Pleasant, and John, Pine Beach; two sisters, Elizabeth Ketchersid, Point Pleasant, and Barbara Tilton, Point Pleasant; and several nieces and a nephew.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Contributions in Mr. Tilton’s memory may be made to the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center, Philadelphia.

Doris S. Donnelly
Point Pleasant Beach resident Doris S. Donnelly died Thursday, May 12 in Ocean County Medical Center, Brick Township.

She was 84 years old.

“Dodie” was born in Belmar.

She was a graduate of Columbia High School, Maplewood.

She was a member of the Manasquan River Yacht Club and the Manasquan River Golf Club.

She was predeceased by her parents, Florence B. and Charles H. Bennett, and by her brother, Wilden Bennett.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Thomas H. Donnelly; one son, Richard A. Donnelly, Tabernacle; and one son and daughter-in-law, Danna and William Wylie, Bloomington, Ind.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Contributions in Dodie’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07702.
