Thomas Kerwin
Point Pleasant Beach resident Thomas Kerwin died Friday, July 30 at Burnt Tavern Rehabilitation Center, Brick Township.

He was 92 years old.

Born in Newark, Mr. Kerwin lived there until moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1950.

He was a graduate of St. Benedict High School, Newark, and went on to the Newark College of Engineering, currently known as the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

He was a civil engineer for the state Department of Transportation. He retired in 1977 after 30 years of employment.

He was a communicant of St. Peter Church, Point Pleasant Beach. He was active in the parish Holy Name Society and the Glorious Years Group. He also served as an usher.

He was predeceased by his wife of 43 years, Dorothy Clark Kerwin; two brothers, William and James Kerwin; three sisters, Margaret Feder, Ann Kerwin, and Catherine Kerwin; and his daughter-in-law, Cynthia Kerwin.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Thomas and Ann Kerwin, Toms River; Robert and Jeanne Kerwin, Point Pleasant, Kenneth and Mary Ann Kerwin, Point Pleasant, and Dorothy and Thomas Dorney, Spring Lake Heights; three sisters, Agnus McManus, Haddonfield, Marian Koegel, Livingston, and Mary Knochel, Union; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Contributions may be made in his name to St. Benedict Prep School, 520 Martin Luther King Blvd., Newark, NJ 07102.

Jane Romanowski
Whiting, Manchester resident Jane Duckworth Romanowski, one of whose sons lives in Point Pleasant, died Thursday, July 29 at Whiting Healthcare.

She was 69 years old.

Born in Teaneck, Mrs. Romanowski lived in Brick Township before moving to Whiting three years ago.

She was the owner of Shotsie’s Deli, Waretown, for 18 years, retiring two years ago.

She was a member of St. Dominic’s Church, Brick.

Surviving are her husband, Alex Romanowski; two sons, Jeff, Toms River, and Michael, Point Pleasant; her brother, William Duckworth, Brick; and four grandchildren, Theresa, Ryan, Kristin, and Andrew.

Colonial Funeral Home, Brick, is in charge of arrangements. A memorial Mass will be offered at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow at St. Dominic’s Church.

Donations in her name can be made to the American Cancer Society.

William D. Crosta
Wall Township resident William D. Crosta, who had owned businesses in Point Pleasant Beach, died Friday, July 30 in his home.

He was 71 years old.

Born, raised and educated in Newark, Mr. Crosta graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep School in the Class of 1949 and attended Seton Hall University, South Orange.

He served as a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He owned and operated Joe Cryan’s, Manasquan, and The Ripe Tide and The Park Place, both in Point Pleasant Beach. He retired in 1988.

He was a member of the Tavern Owners Association and the Alumni of St. Benedict’s.

He was predeceased by his wife of 21 years, Mary A. Murray Crosta; his parents, Daniel V. and Helen Butler Crosta; and his brother, Robert F. Crosta.

Surviving are his children and their spouses, Donna and Michael Wilser, Wall, Andrea Crosta, Wall, and William D. Jr. and Kathleen Crosta; his brother, Donald V. Crosta; and two grandchildren, Brian and Caroline Wilser.

Funeral arrangements were from The McDonough Funeral Home, Belmar.

Donations may be made to St. Mark’s Church, Social Concerns Committee, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt, NJ 08750.

Muriel Gregg Connell
Lavallette resident Muriel Gregg Connell died Wednesday, July 28 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

She was 62 years old.

Born in Elizabeth, Ms. Connell lived in Green Brook before moving to Lavallette in 1981.

She was a graduate of Green Mountain College, Poultney, Vt., with a degree in fashion merchandising.

She was a buyer for Haines, Newark, and a realtor with Birchler, Lavallette. Her career was spent in retail sales, ranging from apparel to real estate.

She was a member of the Manasquan River Country Club, the Atlantic Club, and the Cocoa Beach Elks in Florida.

She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel T. and Muriel Gregg.

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Christina Perry Connell, Lavallette, and Nancy Gregg Rose and Christopher Allen Rose, Libertytown, Md.; and two grandchildren, Gregg C. Connell and Hadley C. Poss.

Funeral arrangements were from the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette.

Virginia Halpin Curry
Point Pleasant resident Virginia E. “Jean” Halpin Curry died Saturday, July 31 in her home.

She was 84 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Curry lived there prior to moving to Point Pleasant 17 years ago.

She was a utilization coordinator for Christ Hospital, Jersey City, for 27 years, retiring in 1987.

She was a volunteer and historian for the Point Pleasant Boro Friends of the Library, and a member of the AARP 2920.

She was a communicant of St. Martha’s Church, where she was also a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Senior Beehive.

Surviving are her husband of 62 years, James Joseph Curry; two sons, James J. Curry, Manasquan, and Thomas A. Curry, Nutley; two daughters, Veronica A. Ehlert, Brick Township, and Lynn Curry, Cedar Glen, Calif.; her brother, M. Donald Halpin, Spring Lake; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements were from Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

Robert A. Holford
Brick Township resident Robert A. Holford, who had lived previously in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, July 31 at Burnt Tavern Nursing and Rehab, Brick.

He was 81 years old.

Born in Trenton, Mr. Holford lived in Wellsboro, Pa., and Point Pleasant before moving to Brick 13 years ago.

He had been employed as a carpenter for Arthur Holford Construction.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Metarko Holford; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Lori Holford, Smyrna, Del., and Arthur and Virginia Holford, Brick; and four grandchildren, Rebecca, Bobby, Jacki and Lisa Holford.

Funeral arrangements were from Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the SPCA in Ocean County.

Elizabeth McKeon
Point Pleasant resident Elizabeth McKeon died Friday, July 30 at Burnt Tavern Health Care, Brick Township.

She was 96 years old.

Born in Newark, Mrs. McKeon moved to Point Pleasant in 1978.

She was predeceased by her husband, Owen.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Constance McKeon, Point Pleasant; and her grandson, Owen McKeon.

Funeral arrangements were from Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant.

Louise Maurer
Lavallette resident Louise Maurer died Monday, Aug. 2 at Meridian at Brick Township.

She was 95 years old.

Born in Bayonne, Ms. Maurer lived in Union before moving to Lavallette in 1990.

She was an actuary for Boyle-Midway Co., Cranford, retiring in 1955.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lavallette.

Surviving are two nieces, Louise Hammer, Lavallette, and Janice Morris, Emerald Isle, N.C.; two nephews, Roy Coxson, Scotch Plains, and Frederick Maurer, Fort Myers, Fla.; and 12 great-nieces and -nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette.

Donations may be made to the Brick Animal Shelter.
