Jean Howard McWeeney
Jean Howard McWeeney, of Avon-by-the-Sea, passed away on Monday, March 19, at home. She was 85.

Jean was born Wilmington, Del. and has lived in Avon for over 80 years.

She is predeceased by her husband John E. “Jack” [2010]. They enjoyed over 64 years of marriage together.

She is survived by her daughter Jill Reilly and her husband Jim, of Belmar; her son John McWeeney Jr. and his wife Kathy, of Belmar; her sister Adelaide Krumm and her husband Art, of Manasquan; her grandsons Jeffrey Reilly and his wife Tara, of Manahawkin; Brendan Reilly and his wife Erin, of Spring Lake Heights; Patrick Reilly and his wife Kristin, of Avon; John McWeeney Reilly and his wife Peggy, of Avon; Andrew McWeeney and his wife Elsa, of Washington D.C.; John McWeeney III and his fiance’ Katie Reynolds, of San Diego, Calif.; and her granddaughter Brianne McWeeney, of Boston. She is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Reilly Funeral Home in Belmar.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Church of Saint Elizabeth in Avon. Committal took place at Saint Catharine’s Cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Avon First Aid, P.O. Box 3, Avon. would be greatly appreciated.

Eileen M. Wilderotter
Eileen M. “Lee” Wilderotter, formerly of Avon-by-the-Sea, died peacefully at home in Perry Farm Village on March 20. She was 92.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Wilderotter was the daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth “Molly” [Howley] Barry.

She was a graduate of Queen of Peace Grammar School [North Arlington], St. Vincent’s Academy [Newark], and Connecticut College [New London, Conn.] class of 1941 where she earned a bachelor of arts in art history and was president of the dramatic club. At the age of 53 she earned a master of arts in library science from the University of Michigan.

Lee married Lt. Robert George Wilderotter on March 24, 1943. After the war they lived in Bloomfield, and then moved to Short Hills while maintaining a summer home in Avon-by-the-Sea. Active in the St. Rose of Lima Auxiliary, Overlook Hospital Twig, and bridge groups, she was also a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout leader. After the family moved to East Grand Rapids, Mich., and later, Edina, Minn., and Grand Blanc, Mich., Lee worked as a children’s librarian in the Flint Public Library.

In retirement, she and Bob lived in Avon-by-the-Sea. She enjoyed traveling all over the USA to be with her children and grandchildren. She was an active member in the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains before returning to Michigan, living in Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, and then Harbor Springs. She was a member of the Friends of the Harbor Springs Area District Library and the Petoskey District Library.

A life-long learner and avid reader, she never ceased encouraging and inspiring others.

She is survived by her nine children and their spouses, Mari and Jerome McDevitt, of Scotch Plains and Avon; Carl and Jane Wilderotter, of Metairie, La.; Judy and Jack Harvey, of Harbor Springs, Mich.; Mark and Kathy Wilderotter, of Merritt Island, Fla.; Gini and Jeff Graham, of Beaverton, Ore.; Dave Wilderotter, of Lake Tahoe, Calif.; Wendy Wilderotter and Deb Malmgren, of Jersey City and Kittatinny Lake; Christine and Richard Carreno, of Manlius, N.Y. and Harbor Springs, Mich.; and Lisa and Mike Ethington, of East Grand Rapids, Mich. and Drummond Island, Mich.; 17 grandchildren: Kelly, John, Molly, Anne, Eric, Mary Elizabeth, Megan, Adam, Andy, Jack, Tom, Jake, Nick, Peter, Patrick, Michael, and Amy; 15 great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law Jack and Barbara Barry, of Morristown; a sister-in-law Barbara Rinkor, of Maplewood; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband on Dec. 25. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on Saturday.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, Mich. A Mass for her intention has been offered at the Augustine Center at the Sacramentine Monastery, Conway, Mich. There will be no visitation, but a Mass of Christian Burial for both Robert and Eileen will be offered on May 12 at Holy Childhood Church, Harbor Springs, Mich. followed by interment at Holy Childhood Cemetery.

A celebration of their lives will be held on June 30 at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon.

Donations may be made in her memory to your local library or to a charity of your choice.

Dorothy Elizabeth Williams
Dorothy Elizabeth Williams, of Wall Township, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 24 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was 63.

Born in Neptune, Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Wall. She worked as a hairdresser for many years at Terry’s Place, Making Waves and The Belmar Clipper. She also worked for Walter Johnson Funeral Home, Wall and Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar as their primary hairdresser.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 46 years, Charles F. Williams; loving children, Charles F. Williams II and his wife Nora, and her daughter, Lori Elizabeth Williams; dear siblings, Donald E. Newman, of Brick, Arnold J. Newman, of Wall and Joan Reddy and her husband Jerry, of Virginia Beach, Va.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Reilly Funeral Home in Belmar. A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, March 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.

David “Butch” Wolfe
Wall resident David “Butch” Wolfe, passed away Wednesday, July 25, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, with his family by his side.

He was 67 years old.

Butch was proud to have worked for Hinck’s Turkey Farm for 50 years, as a manager for the Wall store, and a processing consultant at the turkey farm

He was also a co-owner of Kitch and Kaboodle, in Ocean Grove, along with his wife, Theresa, and two daughters and son-in-law, Amelia, Theresa and David.

Butch’s life evolved around his children and their accomplishments, with a source of great pride. He loved gardening, camping, and antiquing. Another one of his joys was riding his motorcycle.

Butch was looking forward to his first grandchild, a girl, Samarra Pirrong, due to be born in October. He enjoyed the company of his companion and faithful friend, “Butchie.”

Butch was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Lillian Wolfe; two brothers, John and Herb Wolfe; and three sisters, Lillian Murphy, Irene Kauffman, and Helen Wolfe.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Theresa DeBenedictis Wolfe, of Wall; two daughters and a son-in-law, Amelia Wolfe, of Vernon, and Theresa Wolfe Pirrong, and her husband, David Pirrong, of Wall. He is also survived by four brothers, Edward and Maryellen Wolfe, of California, Clyde and Anna Wolfe, of Indiana, Russell Wolfe, of Tennessee, and Clarence and Beverly Wolfe, of Florida; two sisters, Effie Maguire, of Freehold, and Ruth Wolfe, of Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial was private.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 560 Sylvan Ave., Englewood Cliffs, 07632.

Orender Family Home for Funerals was in charge of the arrangements.

Elizabeth Keating
Spring Lake resident Elizabeth Keating died on Monday, Aug. 13, at home.

She was 78 years old.

She was a secretary for Erie Lackawana RR in Newark. She lived in Spring Lake for 10 years, and was previously from Clark.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1928, in Jersey City.

Surviving are her sister, Mary R. Betz, of Holmdel; nephew, Robert and Eileen Betz, of Middletown; nephew, Richard Betz, of Cleveland, Ohio; niece, Maureen Ward, of Toms River; niece, Kathleen Flynn, of Manchester; niece, Eileen Adams, of Bayonne; former husband, C. William Keating, of Bayonne; and several grand nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Pojawa, in 1988.

John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Rd., Middletown, is in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services are scheduled for tomorrow, Aug. 17. at 9 a.m. at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Middletown Road, Holmdel 07733.

Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery, in Rahway.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Catharine’s Church, in Spring Lake.

Lynn Ransom Preston
Collingswood resident Lynn Ransom Preston, formerly of Hasson Township and current resident of Manasquan, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Aug. 8, after a long illness.

Mrs. Preston is a graduate of Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa., and received her masters degree from Glassboro State University. She was a foreign language teacher and then an assistant principal at Haddon Township High School. Lynn was known to all for her intelligent and thoughtful ways, and loving commitment to her family, church and community.

Lynn leaves behind her husband of 48 years, Miller; and her four grown children, Jennifer and her husband, Marty; Michael and his wife, Maureen, David and his wife, Laura, and Rick; and her brother Jay Ransom and his wife, Dale.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Bryn, Patrick, Jack, Lucy, Nicole, Brandi, Robert and Cortney, as well as two great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Mariyah.

Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Brielle.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Lynn’s name to the YCS Foundation, 284 Broadway, Newark, 07104.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas Pizio Jr.
Manasquan resident Thomas Pizio Jr. passed away at home, on Tuesday, July 31.

He was 69 years old.

Born in Plainfield, Tom grew up in Green Brook, and raised his family in Piscataway, before retiring and moving permanently to Manasquan.

Tom is a graduate of Dunellen High School and Juniata College. He worked for over 40 years at Absolute Fire Protection Company, in South Plainfield, retiring as president in 2005, and was involved in many organizations: the American Society of Safety Engineers, the Association of Industrial Fire Chiefs, the National Emergency Equipment Dealers Association, and the NJ Career Chiefs Association.

After purchasing a summer home in Manasquan in 1991, he became very involved in this community as a trustee of the Manasquan Beach Improvement Association, a member of the Manasquan Fishing Club, the Squan Village Historical Society, the Manasquan First Night Committee and Manasquan Seniors. Tom’s favorite things were golfing, gardening, photography and watching his grandchildren play on the beach.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joan Stephenson Pizio; his son, Thomas III; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Brad Whiting; his grandsons, Stephen and Joseph; his brother, Mike; his mother-in-law, Mary Stephenson; his sisters-in-law, Elaine and Joel Schnitter, Mary Ann and Maury Connors, and Jamie Stephenson; and 13 wonderful nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many good friends.
