Cora B. Burdge Hankins
Point Pleasant Beach resident Cora B. Burdge Hankins died Monday, April 21, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 83 years old.

She was vice president at Ocean County National Bank, Point Pleasant Beach.

Born in Point Pleasant Beach, she lived there all her life.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Hankins.

She is survived by two sons, Vernon Hankins, of Brick, and Mark Hankins, of Point Pleasant Beach; two daughters, Donna Hankins, of West Chester, Pa., and Deborah Hankins, of Malvern, Pa.; a brother, Richard Burdge, of South Hampton, N.Y.; a sister, Esther Capestro, of Point Pleasant Beach; and three grandchildren, Donald, Alyssa and David.

At the request of the family, no services will take place at this time. A donation can be made in her name to St. Gregory’s Pantry, 804 Bay Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742.

Cremation Service of Ocean, Brick, is in charge of arrangements.

Edith “Edie” Brienza
Whiting, Manchester resident Edith “Edie” Brienza, formerly of Lavallette, died Tuesday, April 15, in her home, after a long battle with cancer.

She was 80 years old.

Edie was born and raised in Somerville, was a graduate of Somerville High School and worked for the Bridgewater School system and Fluid Packaging.

She lived in Bound Brook with her loving husband, Joseph, for many years.

After Joe passed away, Edie moved to Lavallette, where she resided until she moved to Onancock, Va. After several years in Virginia, Edie moved back to Whiting, to be near her children and grandchildren.

In addition to Joe, Edie was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Ada Dougherty; and her loving sister, Shirley Gara.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her brother, Herbert “Gussie” Dougherty, of Yonkers, N.Y.; two sons, Richard and his wife, Sharon, of Bound Brook, and John and his wife, Stephanie, of Jupiter, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara Waskiewicz and her husband, Larry, of Marathon, Fla.; three grandchildren, John and his wife, Tara, of Santa Monica, Calif., Kenneth and his wife, Tin, a of Toronto, Canada, and Matthew of Philadelphia.

Also cherishing her memory are several nieces and nephews and many friends who loved and cared about her.

The DeGraff Lakehurst Funeral Home, Lakehurst, was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Van Dyke Hospice, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, 08755, or Deborah Hospital Foundation, 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mills, 08015.

Ann Marie DiPadova Verga
Toms River resident Ann Marie DiPadova Verga, formerly of Lavallette, died Friday, April 18, in her home.

She was 81 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Verga was a Lavallette resident for the past 45 years.

She and her late husband, Edward, owned and operated Verga’s Pastry Shop in Jersey City for 39 years. An avid baker, Mrs. Verga enjoyed making gingerbread houses for her grandchildren at Christmas.

She was also a shopping enthusiast and also enjoyed cruising and going to Atlantic City. She enjoyed watching her grandson, Tyler, play football at Toms River High School South. Mrs. Verga was an active member of Deborah Heart Hospital.

She is survived by two sons, Edward S. and his wife, Cathy, and Gary J. and his wife, Sandra; a daughter, Janice Shuebrook and her husband, Kent; three brothers, Anthony, Joseph, and Frank DiPadova; two sisters, Dorothy Marcella and Gloria Gyurik; six grandchildren, John, Kevin, Leslie, Amanda, Brittany and Tyler; and two great-grandchildren, Ian Michael and Abigail.

The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, Lavallette, handled the arrangements. Entombment took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River.

Dorothy Mary Kehoe
Bay Head resident Dorothy Mary Kehoe died Sunday, April 20, in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 85 years old.

Born in Newark to the late John and Anna Adams Kehoe, she had lived in Irvington, summering in Bay Head since 1958 and moving there permanently in 1982.

Dottie was an assistant manager and underwriter, retiring from the Prudential Life Insurance Company in Newark, where she worked for 40 years.

She enjoyed traveling and was a communicant of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Bay Head, where she was a member of the Rosary Society.

Surviving are her sisters, Marie Machavern, of Point Pleasant, and Betty Kehoe, of Bay Head; her nephews, David Machavern and his wife, Patrice, and Paul Machavern and his wife, Lynn; her great-nieces and nephews, Ryan, Dillon, Christopher, Jesse and Kate; and many dear friends.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, was in charge of arrangements. Interment was held privately at St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Wall.

As an expression of sympathy, contributions made to St. Gregory’s Pantry, 804 Bay Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, 08742, are suggested.

Edna Mary Shillabeer
Brick resident Edna Mary Shillabeer, whose daughter lives in Point Pleasant, died Sunday, April 20, at her home, with her family at her side.

He was 84 years old.

She was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., where she met and married her husband of 38 years, William. They have four devoted children, Holly, Heidi, William and Heather.

Edna was a dedicated teacher at The Children’s Palace and was loved by all the children there. She will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Edna Clymo; and her husband, William.

She is survived by her children, Holly and her husband, Richard Pastor, of Point Pleasant Beach, Heidi and her husband, Maurice Forte, of Brick, William Shillabeer, of Brick, and Heather Tutone, of Ocean Township; her grandson, Tristan Forte, of Brick; a brother, Arthur, of Pennsylvania; and her best friends, Eloise and John DeMarco, of Spotswood.

A memorial gathering will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, with a memorial service at 8:30 p.m., at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Route 88, Brick.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Children’s Palace, 1747 Hooper Ave., Toms River, 08753, for the children there.

Laura Dunlop Evans
Asbury Park resident Laura Dunlop Evans, formerly of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, April 15, at Jersey Shore Care Center, Eatontown.

She was 87 years old.

She was a homemaker. Born in Lynchburg, S.C., she lived in Point Pleasant before moving to Asbury Park 21 years ago.

She was predeceased by her husband, Louis Evans, in 1968.

She is survived y a son, Louis Evans Jr., of Red Bank; a daughter, Yvonne Wingo and her husband, Barry, of Asbury Park; two sisters, Lugenia Cole and Margaret Johnson, both of Baltimore; three grandchildren, Felicia, Chevonne and Jermaine; and six great-grandchildren, Ashley, Zelan, Javon, Jayden, Perceona and Shamir.

The Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach, was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at Whitelawn Cemetery, Point Pleasant.

Hazel Reich-Teeple
Lakewood resident Hazel Reich-Teeple, whose family members live in Point Pleasant, died Saturday, April 19, after a long battle with cancer, in Laurelton Village, Brick.

She was 73 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she was formerly of Brick before moving to Lakewood 15 years ago.

She was a school bus driver for the Brick Board of Education for 27 years before her retirement 20 years ago. She was a member of the travel club, camera club and the Italian American Club in Original Leisure Village.

Hazel’s biggest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. Hazel battled cancer for years with dignity and grace.

She was predeceased by her husbands, William Reich, in 1972, and Milton Teeple, three years ago; and her brother, Bill, 10 years ago.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, William and Mary O’Rourke Reich, of Point Pleasant; her daughters, Lizbeth Reich, of Point Pleasant, and Laura and Jerry Arndt, of North Carolina; her grandchildren, Emma and Hannah; and her brothers and sister, Robert Sullivan, of Lakewood, Raymond Sullivan, of Point Pleasant, Edward Sullivan, and Norbury Sullivan of Fort Myers, Fla., and Gladys Lee Turner, , of Lakewood.

The D’Elia Funeral Home, Lakewood, was in charge of arrangements. Burial took place at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Just Us Girls, Women with Cancer in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, P .O. Box 663, Manasquan, 08736.

George L. Rosace
Point Pleasant resident George L. Rosace, formerly of Bayonne, died Saturday, April 19.

He was 78 years old.

He was founder of George’s Auto body for 50 years in Bayonne, retiring in 2000.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Palma Femia Rosace; his daughter, Ann Marie Nicola A. Vernese, M.D.; two sons, Patrick and his wife, Lucille Rosace, George Jr. and his wife, Barbara Rosace; his grandchildren, Jessica and George Rosace, Nicole Vernese III, Patrick, Matthew and Tyler Rosace; one sister, Madeline Tennis; one brother, Lawrence and his wife Rose Rosace; and many nieces and nephews.

The Migliaccio Funeral Home, Bayonne, was in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.
