John K. Lee
John Kirk Lee of Princeton, NJ died peacefully at home on August 22, 2013. He was born in Wyalusing, PA on October 21, 1916, the son of William H Lee and Millie Brown. His father was a noted inventor, and founder of the People's State Bank of Wyalusing. His mother was a descendant of Jesse Allen, the first cousin of Ethan Allen, both of whom fought in the American Revolutionary War. John attended Penn State University prior to transferring to Yale University where he graduated with a B.A. in Economics and American History in 1939. He then joined the Air Force where he successfully completed Officer Training School, and then proudly served in Italy until V-E Day. After World War II, John moved to Denver, CO where he worked for the Gates Rubber Company. With the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, he was recalled to the Air Force and was stationed with the Strategic Air Command in Rapid City, SD. In 1952, he relocated to New York City to work for the Association of National Advertisers, followed by Johnson and Johnson. John then became Managing Director of the Center of Marketing Communications in Princeton, NJ, which later became the Advertising Research Foundation. Upon his retirement, John became a marketing consultant, but most notably he became a dedicated and proficient writer. His book, George Clinton:
Master Builder of the Empire State, was published by the Syracuse University Press in 2009. He was 92 at the time of publication. Predeceased by his wives, Kaye Dorsey Lee and Beatrice Van Cleve Lee, he is survived by his daughters Dorsey King Lee Nakahashi and Alice Wetmore Lee Groton, his sister Alice Lee Lyon of Ithaca, NY, her three children, and four grandchildren. He was also predeceased by two sisters, Nancy Lee McCann and Helen Lee Bonnell, and a son, William Henry Lee. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 11AM at Trinity Church, Princeton. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Wyalusing Presbyterian Church, P.O. Elizabeth "Betty" MacNaughton Kale, 94
Elizabeth "Betty" MacNaughton Kale, 94, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2013 at Wood River Village in Bensalem, PA. She was born in Greenoch, Scotland and was very proud of her Scottish heritage, and always enjoyed her visits "back home". In 1956, Betty and her late husband Herbert W. Kale, founded Kales Nursery and Landscaping Service in Princeton, NJ. They were members of The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville where she taught Sunday school and served on many committees. A long-time resident of North Fort Myers, Florida, she and her husband enjoyed an active life filled with friends, many of whom shared her avid interests in walking, reading and knitting. Her greatest joy and strength was her love of family. Everyone looked forward to the family picnics that she hosted each year. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 64 years. She is survived by her daughters Mary Elizabeth Morris (Edison) of Stockton, NJ, Barrie Joan Kale of Lawrenceville, NJ, a son Douglas William Kale (Wendy) of Solebury, PA., a sister-in-law, Neva Bainbridge of Robbinsville, NJ. Betty was "Mum-mum" to seven grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and aunt to many nieces and nephews. In addition, the family would like to thank her devoted caregivers at Wood River Village. A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 9:30 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, 2688 Main Street, Lawrenceville, NJ. Mary Lucy McCauley (nee Campo), 86
Mary Lucy McCauley (nee Campo) of Franklin Park, NJ, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at St. Peters Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. Born on November 13, 1927, she was raised in Princeton, NJ and attended St. Paul's School, Princeton High School and Catherine Gibbs Secretary School. She was employed for 26 years by Dow Jones and Company, South Brunswick, NJ, in the purchasing department handling local and international corporate relocations. Mary is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Donald, her brother Vincent Campo and his wife Jean of Jamesburg, NJ, and her niece Mary Jean Popowski and her husband Donald of Monroe Twp., NJ. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, September 9, 2013 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church in Kendall Park, NJ, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Burial Park in Jamesburg, NJ. Dr. Allan H. Conney, 83,
Dr. Allan H. Conney, 83, passed away Tuesday September 10, 2013. Born in Chicago, he was a former resident of Dobbs Ferry in Westchester County, New York before moving to Princeton twenty-six years ago. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin earning a Pharmacy degree and a PhD in cancer research. Dr. Conney made major research contributions to science that (a) enhanced our understanding of environmental factors influencing the metabolism and action of drugs (helps explain person-to-person differences in response to drugs), (b) explained how the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons class of environmental carcinogens cause cancer (discovered proximate and ultimate carcinogenic metabolites of these chemicals) and (c) determined the effects of several dietary substances, drugs and exercise for cancer prevention and therapy. He has more than 500 publications. Dr. Conney was among the seven most-cited scientists in the world in the field of pharmacology for work published from 1965-1978 according to the Science Citation Index, and among the 40 most-cited scientists in the world in all fields of science for work published from 1965-1978. Dr. Conney is recognized as one of the leading pharmacologists and cancer researchers of his generation and his contributions to society include his research as well as (a) establishing and serving as chair of the Department of Chemical Biology in the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, (b) serving as President of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, (c) serving on several national and local advisory committees, (d) serving as an Associate Editor and on the Editorial Board of several scientific journals, and (e) giving a large number of invited lectures worldwide. Dr. Conney received more than 30 awards and honors for his research, including election into the National Academy of Sciences (USA) and elected as President of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. He is survived by his wife Diana Locke Conney, two sons Michael and Steven Conney, Michael's wife Yulin, a sister Ruth Adrian and a granddaughter Melissa Conney. Funeral services are Sunday 1PM at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township.The family respectfully requests memorial contributions be offered to a charity of the donor's choice. Mary C. Smela
Mary C. Smela of Newtown, PA passed away with the family at her side on September 7 at St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, PA at the age of 100. She was the daughter of James and Catherine Curley and wife of the late William E. Smela. She is survived by William D (Mary Jo) Smela of Pittstown, NJ, Victoria M.(J. Michael) Logan of Newtown, PA and a granddaughter Cynthia (Ernesto) Villalba and two great-grandchildren. Her early life was spent in Freehold, NJ and she later resided in Hunterdon County, NJ and Bucks County, PA. For many years Mary and her husband had an antique business and were airport managers in the area. Mary had many interests, including decorating, antique airplane restoration, gardening, baking, watercolor painting, writing poetry, and collecting antiques, including antique teapots. She was a former member of the Martha Washington Flower and Garden Club and a parishioner of St. Andrew Catholic Church. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday September 13th at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 81Swamp Rd, Newtown, PA 18940. Friends may call Friday from 10:00 AM until time of Mass at the Church. Interment will be private. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Legacy of Life Foundation, Inc., 25 S. Main St.

Gary Thomas O'Bryant, 79
Gary Thomas O'Bryant, 79, of New Hope died Thursday September 5, 2013 at Doylestown Hospital. Born in Ada, Ohio he was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. Son of the late Charles O'Bryant and Maxine O'Bryant Nunes he is survived by his brother Charles and nephews John and David O'Bryant and families of Raleigh, NC., and his partner of 37 years David Newhart. Gary served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from Notre Dame Seminary and served as a Roman Catholic Diocesan Priest in New Orleans. He later received a Master's Degree in Social Work from at LSU and worked as a clinical social worker at New Orleans Public Health Hospital and the VA Hospital system for many years until retirement. Gary was a great lover of dogs, books and healthy lifestyles. A vegetarian for many years, he honored all living beings. His special charm, kindness, quirky humor and devotion to friends and family will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday September 14 at St Philip's Church, Chapel Road, New Hope. Sophia Cohen, 96
Sophia Cohen, 96, passed away Thursday September 5, 2013. Born in Long Branch, Mrs. Cohen was a graduate of Douglas College and was a social worker with the Trenton Board of Welfare. She served as a board member of the Jewish Community Center and Jewish Federation of Mercer County. Her life long pleasure was playing bridge. Wife of the late Joseph Finkel, Joseph Sear and Theodore Cohen she is survived by a son Rick Sear, a daughter Joanne Hirsch, two grandchildren Rachel Sear, Joshua Hirsch and his wife Susan Hirsch Kline, two great grandchildren Jagger and Maddox Hirsch, a daughter-in-law Paula Varrassi. Funeral services were Sunday 11AM at Orland's Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township. Burial followed at Monmouth Fields Cemetery, West Long Branch. Calling hours were Sunday 10-11AM at the memorial chapel. A period of mourning was observed at the Hirsch residence in Princeton. Bernice Lampert
(Died November 29, 2012)
Bernice Lampert, age 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at her home at Edenwald in Towson, MD. She was born on January 27, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA to Rachel and Herman Finkel and was the middle child of two other sisters, Sylvia and Martha.
By the age of 11 Bernice fell in love with ballet and began to learn and perform with the Littlefield Ballet in Philadelphia, PA, also known at different times as Philadelphia Ballet and also the ballet troupe of the Chicago City Opera.
On June 27, 1947 she married her sweetheart, Dr. A. Bruce Lampert (Buzz) and they chose Princeton, NJ to begin their life together. As a young bride, Bernice danced with the Cannon Ballet Company and performed every role from Swan Lake to the Sugar Plum Fairy. Alongside raising her two daughters and managing her husband’s dental practice, she taught ballet at her own home studio as well as the Princeton Ballet Society and performed with the PJ&B; Players, founded and directed by the late Milton Lyon. Many will remember her many years of contribution to the Princeton Regional Ballet, not the least of which was her daughter Maxine, who danced with the Princeton Regional Ballet and went on to a professional career with major ballet companies achieving principle dancer status.
“Bernie” will be remembered as a bright spark to her two daughters, Lori Lampert and Maxine Lampert and her partner Dana William Rath and her “adopted” daughter, Barbara Feigh as well as the many others who unite in the afterglow of happy times and the echoes of treasured memories. Her girls are eternally grateful for the intangible abundance with which they’ve been blessed.
The memorial service and celebration of Bernice Lampert’s life will be held at the Nassau Inn, 10 Palmer Square, Princeton NJ on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 12:30 PM.

Barbara G. Marant
(June 22, 1928 - January 13, 2013)
Barbara G. Marant, 84, of Ewing, NJ, formerly of Princeton, NJ, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Care One in Ewing after a short illness.
Born in Princeton, Barbara moved to Ewing 50 years ago. She retired in 1975, from NJ Bell in Trenton, NJ as a telephone operator, after 30 years of service with the company.
Barbara was a member of the Church of the Incarnation-St. James Seniors and an avid NY Yankees fan.
She was predeceased by her first husband, John J. Koch, her second husband, Joseph Marant, a daughter Barbara Ann Koch, step-daughter, Mary Rathbun, two brothers William W., Jr. and Richard Golden and a sister Joan Thomas.
She is survived by her daughter Denise Tock, grandson, Jason Tock, sister Carol Golden, step-daughter Karen Marant, step-sons; Frank J. Marant and his wife, Betsy and Joseph Marant and his wife, Beverly, step-grandchildren; Ellyn, Daniel and John Logan Marant and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
After a private cremation, a Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January, 18, 2013 at 10:45AM in St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau Street, Princeton. Burial of her cremated remains will follow in St. Paul Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to a charity of the donor’s choice are appreciated.

Joseph DeWitt Davis
(Died January 15, 2013)

Joseph DeWitt Davis, 89, of Lawrenceville, NJ passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2013 with his wife and daughter by his side.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, he grew up in Beaumont, Texas. He attended the University of Santa Clara and Notre Dame University. He served his country proudly in the Army’s infantry division during World War II. He retired from Transco Pipeline Corp. in 1986. He lived in the Princeton area for many years until moving to Lawrenceville in 2006. He will be fondly remembered as a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor, a kind heart, wonderful singing voice and was a member of St. Paul and St. Ann’s parishes.
Son of the late Agnes and Moses Davis, he is survived by his devoted wife of 39 years, Michele Davis; daughter Amy Davis and son-in-law John Boccanfuso; grandchildren, Jack and Olivia Boccanfuso; sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Larry Clausen; sister-in-law Pamela Furfey, special cousin Robert Knight and several nieces and friends.
A viewing will take place on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Kimble Funeral Home, 1 Hamilton Avenue, Princeton, NJ from 6-8 p.m. A Catholic mass will take place at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 214 Nassau St, Princeton, NJ on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Princeton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe’s memory may be made to Princeton Hospice, 208 Bunn Dr, Princeton, NJ 08540.
