Catherine Piccione, 78
Catherine Piccione, 78, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, April 12, 1998 in Rahway Hospital in Rahway.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Springfield and Clark prior to moving to Scotch Plains two years ago.
Mrs. Piccione had been a secretary of the Pacemaker Foundation at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and had volunteered there for seven years.
Surviving are a son, Sam J. Piccione, Jr.; a daughter, Kathleen Brodzicki; a sister, Joan Silchack; two brothers, Frank Jacoby and Thomas Jacoby, and four grandchildren.
A Mass was offered yesterday, Wednesday, April 15, at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Linden, following the funeral from the Galante Funeral Home in Union.

Christopher Brownstein, 19
Christopher E. Brownstein, 19, of Westfield, died on Monday, April 13, 1998 at home.
Born in Summit, he had lived all his life in Westfield.
He was a 1996 graduate of Westfield High School. Surviving are his parents, Steven and Abby (Hays) Brownstein, and his brother, Scott Brownstein.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 18, at 4:30 p.m. at Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, in Westfield. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m.
Donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Roderick Blocker, 42
Roderick "Rod" Blocker, 42, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died on Monday, April 6, 1998 at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte. Born in High Point, North Carolina, he graduated from Essex County College in Newark.
Mr. Blocker was a scanner operator for Data Reduction in Charlotte.
Surviving are his parents, George and Ruth Scott of Charlotte; his biological father, Scotland Blocker of Irvington; three sisters, Aleatrice Youngbleed and Denise Patterson, both of Westfield, and Ollie Dreakford of Greenville, South Carolina.
Funeral services were held on Friday, April 10, at the A. L. Jinwright Funeral Chapel in Charlotte.

Henry Hyde Banta, Jr., 70
Veteran; Active With Local 'Y' Swim Teams
Henry Hyde Banta, Jr., 70, of Westfield died on Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born and raised in Plainfield, he had lived in Westfield for the past 42 years.
Mr. Banta had been an officer and underwriter for Atlantic Mutual Company in New York City for 35 years, prior to retiring in 1993.
He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1950, a Master of Business Administration Degree from New York University in 1954, and a master's degree in medieval history from New York University in 1991.
Mr. Banta was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during America's occupation of Japan.
He was a member of Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters of New York and New Jersey and the Plainfield Historic Society, and was the former Treasurer of the Master Gardens of Union County.
He also was active with the swim teams of the Westfield YMCA and YWCA.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Mary Fitzpatrick Banta; four sons, Henry Hyde Banta, 3rd of Union, Cornelius Fitzpatrick Banta and Christopher Michael Banta, both of Westfield, and J. Edward Banta of Medford, Massachusetts; a daughter, Mary Margaret Banta of Plainfield, and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be tomorrow, Friday, April 17, at the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 18, at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hope Hospice, 176 Hussa Street, Linden, 07036.

Vincent J. Donnelly, Sr., 82
Retiree; Was Member of Flying Tigers in War
Vincent J. Donnelly, Sr., 82, of Westfield died on Saturday, April 11, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit. Born in Massachusetts, he had lived in Westfield for 46 years.
Mr. Donnelly graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. He had been a manufacturer's representative for many years with Sondra Manufacturing and for two years with Haywood-Schuster Company, both in New York City, before retiring in 1982.
Mr. Donnelly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the Flying Tigers. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Rita Donnelly; a daughter, Patricia Donnelly Brown; a son, Vincent J. Donnelly, Jr., and four grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be offered today, Thursday, April 16, at 10 a.m. in St. Helen's Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Arrangements are being handled by the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, in Westfield.

Dr. Harrison Oliver Brown, Jr., 69
Practiced in Westfield for 37 Years
Dr. Harrison Oliver Brown, Jr., 69, a former Westfield resident who practiced medicine in the town for 37 years, died on Friday, May 29, 1998 at his Flemington home.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 18, 1928, Dr. Brown was raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he was an Eagle Scout and scout leader, as well as a life guard.
He had lived in Westfield from 1961 to 1981, when he relocated to Clinton. He resided there until moving to Flemington in 1988.
Dr. Brown maintained his own practice in internal medicine and gastroenterology in Westfield since 1961.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1949 from the University of Virginia, and received his Master of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania the following year.
Dr. Brown graduated from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1954. A year earlier, had been the recipient of the Alpha Omega Alpha award.
His post graduate work included a medical internship at New York Hospital from 1954 to 1955. He served as a junior assistant resident in internal medicine at Bellevue Hospital in New York from 1955 to 1956, and as a senior assistant resident at the Memorial Center for Cancer and Allied Diseases in New York City from 1958 to 1959.
Dr. Brown earned a Fellowship in Gastroenterology, Second (Cornell) Medical Division, at Bellevue Hospital during 1959 1961.
He also had a long affiliation with Overlook Hospital in Summit, having been appointed to the Courtesy Staff in 1961, and as Assistant Attending Physician in Medicine in 1963; Associate Attending Physician in Medicine in 1967, and as Attending Physician in Medicine from 1972 until the time of his death.
Dr. Brown also served as Chairman of Overlook's Medical Education Advisory Committee from 1970 to 1974, 1976 to 1978 and 1986 to 1988, and as Chief of the Department of Medicine from 1974 to 1976.
In 1961, he became a member of both the American Medical Association and the Union County Medical Society, of which he was President from 1977 to 1978. He was named to the American Society of Internal Medicine in 1966.
Dr. Brown became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Health in 1971 and of the American College of Physicians. He joined the American Public Health Association in 1971.
He was named as an Associate with the American Association of Family Physicians in 1972 and also became a member of the Society for Advanced Medical Systems that year.
He had been a member of the American Medical Informatics Association since 1980. In addition, he served as Vice President of Central Jersey IPA and as a member of Board of Healthways, both from 1979 to 1981. He served an American Cancer Society Fellowship from 1959 to 1961.
Dr. Brown co-authored several medical publications, and was a founding member of VISTA Health Systems, an independent organization now comprised of more than 200 physicians in Union, Somerset, Morris and Essex Counties.
At the age of 16, Dr. Brown was a radio operator in the United States Merchant Marine, serving in the Atlantic.
After college, he served as a Ward Officer in the United States Army Hospital in Frankfurt, Germany, from 1956 to 1958, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. He was also named Chief of Outpatient Service and received a Letter of Commendation for his service overseas.
Surviving are his wife, Dr. Jean Abel Cramer Brown; two sons, David Littleton Brown of Hillsborough and Dr. Steven Holloway Brown of Nashville, Tennessee, and a brother, Julius Bunting Brown of Richmond, Virginia.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Dooley Colonial Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cancer Society of Union County, 512 Westminster Avenue, Elizabeth, 07208.

Jean M. Borger, 72
Active in Church; Former Substitute Teacher in District
Jean M. Borger, 72, of Fanwood died on Friday, May 29, 1998 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Towson, Maryland, she had lived in Fanwood for 32 years.
Mrs. Borger had been a substitute teacher in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood public school system before retiring 10 years ago.
She was a graduate of Drexel University in Philadelphia. Mrs. Borger was a member of the Fanwood Presbyterian Church and its Woman's Association, and of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.
Surviving are her husband, Franklin L. Borger; a son, David L. Borger of Upland, California; a sister, Romaine McGough of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, June 2.
Arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Organ Mission Fund of the Fanwood Presbyterian Church, 74 Martine Avenue, South, Fanwood, 07023.
