John J. Kanides, age 71 of Fords died on Monday at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. He was born in Elizabeth and had resided in Metuchen before moving to Fords 8 years ago.
Mr. Kanides owned Puppies Catering for 20 years, retiring in 1999. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Fulton, his daughter, Michelle Hammock of Jacksonville, FL, his sons, Nicholas, Michael, and James, his stepchildren, Jennifer Weck and Edward Fulton and five grandchildren.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 7, 2008 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Calvin Kallaur
May 16, 2008
Calvin Kallaur, who was also known as Valentine Dziechowski, age 55, died on Friday, May 16, 2008 in Edison. He was born in Montgomery, AL and had resided in Edison since 1972.
Mr. Kallaur graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1971 and was a Warehouse Clerk for Pathmark Supermarket in Edison for 10 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Mary Dziechowski.
Surviving are his brother, Timothy Dziechowski of New Hampshire, his nieces, Anna and Lena and his aunt, Josephine Scarangello of Perth Amboy.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Mildred Jones
May 19, 2008
Mildred Jones, age 94 of Metuchen, died on Monday at the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge. She was born in Perth Amboy to Sofius and Aasta Tolfsen Jorgensen, graduated from Tottenville High School in 1932 and Brooklyn College in 1936. She married Alexander Murdoch Jones on September 16, 1939 and moved to Metuchen in 1956.
Mildred was a kindergarten teacher at Washington School in Metuchen until she retired. She was active in the P.E.O., The Quiet Hour Club and the Reformed Church of Metuchen. In 2001 she moved to the Reformed Church Home in Old Bridge.
Her husband, Alexander died in 1986 and her brother, Howard Emil Jorgenson is also deceased.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Alexander Murdoch Jones Jr. and Elizabeth Wilcox Jones of East Windsor and Howard Theodore Jones and Nancy Rodriguez Jones of Metuchen and her grandchildren, Alexander Murdoch Jones, III of Burlington, Robert Wilcox Jones of Harrisburg, PA, Erik Maxwell Jones of Metuchen and Kimberly Libman of Brooklyn. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Chloe, Victoria, Alexander, Benjamin, Jared and Aiden Jones and her sister, Olive Jorgenson Silverstein of Syracuse, NY.
Visitation: Thursday, May 22, 2008 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.; Friday, May 23, 2008 11:00-1:00 p.m.

Sheldon (Shelly) Hirschman
April 15, 2008
Sheldon (Shelly) Hirschman, age 74 of Somerset, died on Tuesday at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica, CA. He was born and raised in Linden and had resided in Edison for 35 years before moving to Somerset.
Mr. Hirschman was a teacher in the Linden School system. He was a reading specialist and coach and taught elementary grades. He retired in 1996 after 35 years. He also owned and operated Hirschman Electric in Edison.
He graduated from Newark State Teachers College in 1960 with an MA in Education +30.He was a NJ - Pro Softball player and coached North Edison Little League and Renaissance Rascals Softball. He was a veteran of the US Army serving from February 1954 to February 1956.
His parents, Rose and Jacob Hirschman and his sisters, Helen Schonwald and Shirley Fleischman predeceased him.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Barbara Feidelseit Hirschman, his sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Kathy Hirschman of Warren, Jonathan and Janet Hirschman of Jefferson and Edward and Beth Hirschman of Princeton, his grandchildren, Nathaniel, Evan, Zackary, Stefani, Leah, Meredith, Lindsay and Dimitri, his twin brother, Jerry Hirschman, his sister, Ruth Cooper and hundreds of friends.
Funeral Service: Friday, April 18, 2008 at 12 noon

Casimiro Hernandez
April 20, 2008
Casimiro Hernandez, age 83, died on Sunday at his home in Perth Amboy. He was born in the Dominican Republic and had resided I Perth Amboy for the past 53 years.
Mr. Hernandez was a Caster for over 30 years with Woodbridge Sanitary Pottery in Woodbridge, retiring in 1986.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Aurea Rosario Hernandez, his sons, Alfonso Hernandez of Brooklyn, NY John Hernandez of South Amboy, NJ and Stephen Hernandez of Old Bridge, NJ and his daughters, Miguelina Caceres of Brooklyn, NY and Melissa Nazario of Hamilton, NJ. also surviving are eleven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, his brothers, .Adolfo of Perth Amboy, NJ, Adelso of Dominican Republic, Porfirio Romero of Perth Amboy, NJ, Raul of Dominican Republic, Joselito of Dominican Republic and Tony of Florida, his sisters, Tonila Tapia of Queens, NY, Amparo Hernandez of Vineland, NJ, Aurora Suarez of Tampa, FL, Mercedes Martinez of Dominican Republic, Mary Zeno of Puerto Rico and Marisergia Hernandez of Dominican Republic and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Joseph M. Harrigan
May 19, 2008
Joseph M. Harrigan, age 58, died on Monday at his home in Edison. He was born in Perth Amboy and had resided in Edison for the past 35 years.
Joe graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1967 and from Rutgers University with a BS Degree. He was a member of St. Mary RC Church, Perth Amboy and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #299, Perth Amboy.
For last 35 years he had worked as a Disbursement Control Officer at Rutgers University in Piscataway. Joe will always be remembered as a true friend, always there when you needed him, kind, gentle, sincere and with a great sense of humor.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Harrigan
Surviving are his aunts, Geraldine P. Kenny of Perth Amboy and Marie Liston of Brick, his uncle, Andrew J. Haborak of Perth Amboy and twenty-three cousins.
Visitation: Wednesday, May 21, 2008 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.

Dolores Heiser
April 22, 2008
Dolores Heiser, age 75 of Hopelawn, died on Tuesday at JFK Medical Center in Edison. She was born in New York, NY and resided in Perth Amboy before moving to Hopelawn 50 years ago.
Mrs. Heiser was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and, with her husband, owned and operated Hopelawn Mower Service for 40 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Heiser, Sr. who died in 2000 and her brother, John Aquaro.
Surviving are her son, Robert L. Heiser, Jr. and his fiancée, Grace Szuba of Hamton, NJ, his daughters and sons-in-law, Katherine Lee and Arthur Fleck, II of Ft. Myers, FL and Nancy Lee and Doug Skerlanitz of Old Bridge, NJ and her grandson, Arthur Fleck III who resided with his grandmother. Also surviving are her sisters, Frances Lund and her husband, Chriss of Sneads Ferry, NC and Antoinette Aquaro of Maryland.
Visitation: Thursday, April 24, 2008 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 p.m.
