Lois J. MacNeil, 57
Registered Nurse At Muhlenberg and Deborah Center
Lois J. MacNeil, 57, of Leisure Knoll in Manchester Township died on Sunday, February 20, 2000 at the Manchester Manor Nursing Home in Lakehurst.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Manchester in 1979.
Miss MacNeil was a registered nurse at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield; the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, Pemberton, and the Community Medical Center in Toms River.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Lakehurst and of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Miss MacNeil was a graduate of Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, West Virginia.
Surviving are two brothers, Douglas M. MacNeil of Allentown, Pa. and Donald A. MacNeil of Millington.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 11, at the Lakehurst Presbyterian Church.
Cremation will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home in Manchester Township.

Fred C. Steinbrenner, 77, Veteran; Was Retired Ciba-Geigy Insulator
Fred C. Steinbrenner, 77, of Normandy Beach died on Wednesday, February 23, 2000 at home.
Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Fanwood before moving to Normandy Beach 23 years ago.
Mr. Steinbrenner had been employed for 25 years as an insulator for the Asbestos Workers Union Local No. 12 in Long Island until 1977.
He subsequently worked in the same capacity for Ciba Giegy in Toms River for 10 years before retiring in 1987.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Normandy Beach.
He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, the former Dorothy McLaughlin; a daughter, Donna Shirokmann of Rahway; a sister, Helen Oriole of Bayonne, and three grandchildren.
A Mass was celebrated on Saturday, February 26, at Our Lady of Peace Church.
Interment took place at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Weatherhead Young Funeral Home in Brick.
Memorial donations may be made to the Meridian Hospice Program of Ocean County.

Barbara Liberman
Barbara Ellen Liberman of Scotch Plains died on Friday, February 25, 2000 at home.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Rahway before relocating to Scotch Plains 14 years ago.
Mrs. Liberman was the office manager for her daughter, Dr. Elisa Zinberg, in New York City for many years.
She was predeceased by two husbands, Melvin Liberman and Gerald Zinberg.
Surviving, in addition to her daughter, are two sons, Scott Zinberg and Jay Zinberg; a stepdaughter, Patti Liberman, and six grandchildren.
Services were held on Sunday, February 27, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Almeta Hurtt, 76
Almeta Boykin Hurtt, 76, of Westfield died on Thursday, February 3, 2000 at home.
Born and raised in Scotch Plains, she was the eldest of eight children of the late Deacon and Deaconess Edward and Lillian Boykin.
She was educated through the Scotch Plains public school system and moved with her family to Westfield in 1963.
Mrs. Hurtt worked for many years with children and senior citizens at the Westfield Community Center before her retirement.
She was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church in Scotch Plains and of its Floral Club, where she served as President and held various other offices for several years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond E. Hurtt, Sr., whom she married in 1941; two sons, Raymond E. “Herkey” Hurtt, Jr. and Keith E. Hurtt; her brother, Benjamin Boykin; two sisters, Edith Nettingham and Marie Nettingham, and a grandson.
Surviving are a daughter, Gladys “Bunny” Chambliss of Green Brook; a son, Petty Officer Kevin T. Hurtt of Westfield; four sisters, Louise Briggs of Roselle, Marion Steward of Elizabeth, Priscilla Bullock of Scotch Plains and Edwina Davis of Plainfield; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Monday, February 7, at St. John’s Baptist Church.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Nesbitt Funeral Home in Elizabeth.

Adeline B. Springer, 84
Adeline B. Springer, 84, of Mountainside died on Monday, February 28, 2000 at the Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network in Westfield.
Born in Lyndhurst, she had lived in Woodbridge before moving to Mountainside in 1993.
Mrs. Springer was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward Springer.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan Nemick of Mountainside; two sons, Edward G. Springer of Coopersburg, Pa., and Ernest Springer of Martinsville; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Private arrangements were handled by the Funeral Service of New Jersey in Hillside.

Claudia J. Rebuth
Former Teacher; Legal Assistant at Scotch Plains Firm
Claudia J. Rebuth of Scotch Plains died on Friday, February 25, 2000 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Scranton, Pa., she had lived in Chinchilla, Pa., before moving to Scotch Plains 30 years ago.
Mrs. Rebuth was a legal assistant for 10 years with Leib, Kraus, Grispin & Roth, a law firm in Scotch Plains.
Before that, she had been a fifth grade teacher in the Wharton and Mendham school systems.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1965 from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and a paralegal certificate in 1989 from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford.
Mrs. Rebuth was a member of the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains.
Surviving are her husband, Michael J. Rebuth; two daughters, Justine P. Kennedy and Amanda J. Rebuth; a son, Michael A. Rebuth; her mother, Ruth Smith; three sisters, Carole Granville, Carol Ann Saar and Connie Leavesley; two brothers, William Smith and Craig Smith, and three grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Monday, February 28, in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, following the funeral from the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.

Robert O’Connor, 80
Decorated Veteran; Former Owner of Local Roofing Company
Robert H. O’Connor, 80, of Fanwood died on Sunday, February 27, 2000 at home.
Born in Easton, Pa., he had lived in North Arlington before moving to Fanwood 46 years ago.
Mr. O’Connor had been a roofing estimator with Regal Roofing Company in Norwood before retiring last year. Earlier, he had owned the O’Connor Roofing Company in Fanwood.
He served in the United States Army during World War II as a First Lieutenant and was the recipient of a Bronze Star and a Silver Star.
He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains and a member of Martin Wallberg American Legion Post No. 3 of Westfield.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret MacKenzie O’Connor; two sisters, Sharon O’Connor of Basking Ridge and Carol Fairweather of Hopkinton, Mass.; a brother, Leonard O’Connor of Phillipsburg, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, March 2 at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Center for Hospice, 187 Millburn Avenue, Millburn, 07041.

Edmund F. Tietz, 76
Edmund F. Tietz, 76, of Westfield died on Monday, February 28, 2000 at home.
Born in Kiel, Germany, he had lived in New York City for most of his life before moving to Westfield in 1995.
Mr. Tietz had been an electrical maintenance employee for the New York Transit Authority in New York City for 42 years before retiring in 1995.
He was a member of Atlas Pythagoras Masonic Lodge 10 in Westfield, a past master of the Masonic Lodge in Brooklyn and a past patron of the Brooklyn chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a daughter, Eileen Hill VanZetten; two step-sons, John Blauvelt and Henry Blauvelt; a step-daughter, Lynn Clark; nine grandchildren and his fiancee, Lillian Blauvelt.
Cremation will be private.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, March 2, in the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
