Charles J. Dodge, 6th, 56
Executive; President of Mortgage Company
Charles Joseph Dodge 6th, 56, of Westfield died on Saturday, February 19, 2000 at home.
Born in New Brunswick, he had lived in Washington, Boston and Philadelphia before moving to Westfield 27 years ago.
Mr. Dodge was President of the Cronheim Mortgage Company in Chatham for 27 years.
He also owned the Moorehouse Corporation, a construction company in Somerville.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Rutgers University in New Brunswick in 1965 and a master’s degree in business administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1973.
Mr. Dodge served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.
He was on the Board of Trustees of the First Real Estate Investment Trust Company, Hekemian & Company Inc. and the Cheshire House.
He was also a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association, the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Plainfield Country Club and a former member of the Appraisal Institute.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Dodge; a son, Charles Joseph Dodge, 7th of Westfield; a daughter, Shannon Elizabeth Dodge of Boston; his mother, Grace Metler of Pompano Beach, Fla.; a brother, Gregory Francis Dodge of New Brunswick, and a sister, Gail D. Erath of Pennington.
A Mass was offered on Tuesday, February 22, in St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield, following the funeral from the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Robert M. Koppenhoefer, 90
Received Award From Leather Chemists
Robert M. Koppenhoefer, 90, died at Village on the Green in Longwood, Fla. on Saturday, February 19, 2000.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 4, 1909, he had lived in Westfield for 20 years before relocating to central Florida in 1986.
A chemical engineer in the petroleum industry, Mr. Koppenhoefer was a Past President of the American Leather Chemists Association, from which he received the ALSOP Award.
He was also a member of the American Chemical Society.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Koppenhoefer; a son, Kenneth R. Koppenhoefer of Kissimmee, Fla.; a daughter, Karen K. Castelloes of Casselberry, Fla., and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at a date to be announced at the Village on the Green.
Interment will take place at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Woodlawn Carey Hand Funeral Home in Longwood, Fla.

James P. Coffey, 45
James P. Coffey, 45, died on Saturday, February 19, 2000 at his home in Cranford.
Born in East Orange, he lived most of his life in Cranford.
Mr. Coffey had been employed as a supervisor at Polychrome in Clark for the past 20 years.
He was predeceased by his mother, Patricia “Tecia” Kearney Coffey, in 1996.
Surviving are his father, James R. Coffey of Scotch Plains; a brother, John J. Coffey of Midlothian, Va., and a sister, Janice Bonavita of Stillwater.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, February 23, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, followed by a Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment was at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway 1, North Brunswick, 08902-4301.

Mary Lahn, 86
Mary Lahn, 86, a former area resident, died on Wednesday, February 16, 2000 in Hollywood, Fla.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, she had lived in Tokyo and in Mountainside before moving to South Florida more than 30 years ago.
A commercial artist, Mrs. Lahn had produced newspaper advertisements in the 1930s for New York City department stores including Macy’s and Lord & Taylor.
She wrote and illustrated an “about town” column in the American Advertiser in Tokyo until being forced to leave Japan with other Americans prior to World War II.
She earned a degree in art from the Pratt Institute in New York City, where she won the St. Gaudens Medal for art.
Surviving are a son, Richard Lahn; a stepdaughter, Jean Balinsky; a brother, Morris Warshawer, and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fred Hunter Funeral Home, Hollywood.

Ed Woike, 56
Ed Woike, 56, of Hillsborough died on Sunday, February 20, 2000 at his home.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pa., he was a former resident of Westfield. He lived in Hillsborough since 1974.
Mr. Woike was employed as a stock broker with Financial Network in Edison since 1995.
A self-employed registered financial planner since 1990, he founded the Liquiflo Company in Warren, a division of Picut Manufacturing, in 1972.
He continued with the company until 1982.
He was a graduate of Pennington Prep in Pennington and of Westfield High School.
Mr. Woike also attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Rutherford.
He was a member of the Hunterdon Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are his wife, Judith Woike.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, February 23, at the Hillsborough Funeral Home in Belle Mead.
Memorial donations may be made to The Pennington School, 112 Delaware Avenue, Pennington, 08534.

Robert A. Sale, 46
Robert A. Sale, 46, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, February 19, 2000 at home.
Born in the Bronx, he had been a longtime resident of Fanwood before relocating to Scotch Plains four years ago.
Mr. Sale was an honor student in the Union County College Nursing Program.
Surviving are a daughter, Victoria Sale; his parents, Nicholas and Rose Sale, and a sister, Doreen Mondi.
The funeral was held yesterday, Wednesday, February 23, from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, followed by a Mass at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Memorial donations may be made to the Scotch Plains Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Fanwood Volunteer Rescue Squad.

Raymond D. Moore, 51
Raymond D. Moore, 51, of Toms River died on Thursday, February 17, 2000 in University Hospital in Newark.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Hillside and Scotch Plains before moving to Toms River in 1969.
Mr. Moore was the owner and proprietor of Moore & Garvey Inc. in Bayville and of Derflinger Roofing in Whiting.
He graduated from Monmouth College in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Moore; two sons, Michael Moore and Douglas Moore; a daughter, Lyndsey LaBrutto; his mother, Susan Mallinson Moore; a brother, Gregory Moore; a sister, Susan Tatum, and two grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, February 22, in the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals in Toms River.

Elouise Hammond, 74
Elouise S. Hammond, 74, of South Plainfield died on Thursday, February 17, 2000 in the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Edison.
Born in Burlington, N.C. on September 29, 1925, she had lived in Scotch Plains for several years before moving to South Plainfield 31 years ago.
Mrs. Hammond, a professional musician, had been the organist and Choir Director of the Wesley United Methodist Church in South Plainfield for 24 years before retiring in 1993.
She also was the organist at the Mundy Funeral Home in Dunellen for more than 20 years.
She was a member of the Plainfield Area Children’s Choir Festival for many years and served with the United Way of Scotch Plains for 22 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph T. Hammond, in 1983.
Surviving are a son, Joseph T. Hammond, 3rd of Berryville, Ark.; a daughter, Melinda Anne Hammond of South Plainfield; a sister, Ione Euliss of Burlington, N.C.; two brothers, Merrimon Cheek of Burlington and Richard Cheek of Salisbury, N.C., and seven grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, February 22, in St. Francis Episcopal Church of Dunellen.
Arrangements were handled by the Mundy Funeral Home.
