Burton C. Polglase, 91
Burton C. Polglase, 91, of Plainfield, died on Monday, March 29, 1999 at home.
Born in LaPorte, Indiana, he had lived in Scarsdale, New York before moving to Plainfield 26 years ago.
He was a graduate of the University of Michigan where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
Mr. Polglase was a mechanical engineer and prior to retiring in 1985, was Vice President of M.A.N. Roland, USA, Inc. in Middlesex.
He had formerly been the President of R. H. Hoe in The Bronx.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Plainfield.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Vivian Mettling Polglase, in 1965.
Surviving are his wife, Maria N. Polglase; two sons, Burton C. Polglase, 3rd, and John C. Polglase; three stepdaughters, Barbara Bryden, Margi Ley and Deborah Gegner; a brother, Richard Polglase; a sister, Doris Cook, and 10 grandchildren.
A Funeral Service will be held tomorrow, Friday, April 2, at 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood.
Visiting hours will be on April 2 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the American Heart Association, 2550 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, 089024301.

Gordon E. Becker, 78
Gordon Edward Becker, 78, of Marietta, Georgia, died Monday, March 29, 1999.
He was a resident of Westfield for 23 years, and a resident of Clearwater, Florida for nine years prior to moving to Marietta four years ago.
Mr. Becker received a bachelors degree in physics from Columbia College in 1942 and later received a Doctoral Degree in Physics from Columbia University.
He taught physics at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. He retired from Bell Labs in 1985 after 33 years, where he was a member of the Technical Staff.
Mr. Becker was an active member of the Lutheran Church and a four-year member of the Living Faith Bible Church in Roswell, Georgia.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Bette Becker; three sons, Reverend Paul F. Becker of Kingsport, Tennessee, Reverend Carl H. Becker of Marietta, Rex L. Becker of St. Louis, Missouri; three sisters, Mildred Graf of Lubbock, Texas, Juanita Lutz of Ames, Iowa, and Marion Krentz, of Chicago; and six grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 10, at the Living Faith Bible Church in Roswell, Georgia.
Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of the South in Austell, Georgia.

Marjorie S. McCaulley
Homemaker; Served in Naval Reserves During War
Marjorie S. McCaulley of Westfield died on Monday, March 22, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, she had lived in Cleveland, Ohio before moving to Westfield 47 years ago.
Mrs. McCaulley was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Overlook Hospital Auxiliary, the Westfield Garden Club and the Westfield Service League.
She served in the United States Naval Reserves during World War II.
Mrs. McCaulley earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Fine Arts from Pennsylvania State University.
Surviving are her husband, Samuel A. McCaulley, Jr.; a son, Samuel A. McCaulley, 3rd, of Bedminster; a daughter, Jane E. McCaulley of Chicago; a brother, Christian L. Siebert, Jr. of Camp Hill; a sister, Natalie Froehlich of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; and a grandson.
A memorial service was held on Thursday, March 25, at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.
The committal service was private.

Evelyn Lambert, 90
Evelyn Krohne Lambert, 90, of Pittstown died on Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at the Stone Arch Health Center in Pittstown.
Born in Alpine, Mrs. Lambert was an officer in the Salvation Army.
She was in charge of the bookkeeping staff at the organization's New York City headquarters following almost 10 years of service in Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo, New York.
After her marriage, she was active in the Sister Kenny Foundation and other charitable organizations.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her daughter, Pauline Lambert, and three grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements were private. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

Samuel J. Hyland, 55
Former Policeman; American Legion and Knights Member
Samuel J. Hyland, 55, of Fanwood died on Monday, October 12, 1998 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Hillside, he had moved to Fanwood five years ago.
Mr. Hyland was a loss prevention supervisor at United Parcel Service in Morristown for nine years.
He had previously been a member of the Hillside Police Department.
He was a 1996 graduate of Nyack College in Nyack, New York.
He had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Hyland was the Grand Knight of the Father Nelligan Council No. 5730, Knights of Columbus in Scotch Plains, the Elks Lodge No. 1591 in Hillside, and the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 82, also in Hillside.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 209 in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Ann Hyland; a son, Patrick J. Hyland; a daughter, Mary Beth Hyland; his mother, Arabel Hyland, and two brothers, Dennis Hyland, Jr. and Thomas Hyland.
A Funeral Mass will be offered today, Thursday, October 15, at 10 a.m. in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains following the funeral from the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

Marion Osterweil
Marion Osterweil of Mountainside died on Wednesday, October 7, 1998 in HRC ManorCare Health Services in Mountainside.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Union and Springfield before moving to Mountainside.
Surviving are a daughter, Jackie Osterweil; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

William Zollo, 80
William Zollo, 80, of Hackettstown died on Friday, October 9, 1998 in Hackettstown Hospital.
Born in Westfield, he moved to Hackettstown 20 years ago.
Mr. Zollo had been a laborer for the Maplewood Department of Public Works for 20 years before retiring 15 years ago.
He was a volunteer at Hackettstown Hospital, where he was honored for donating 11, 000 hours of time.
Private funeral arrangements were handled by the Biondi Funeral Home in Nutley.

Charles A. Schmidt, 89
Executive; Mason with Pittsburgh Consistory
Charles A. Schmidt, 89, of Freehold Township died on Sunday, October 11, 1998 at home.
Born in Pittsburgh, he had lived in Westfield before moving to Freehold eight years ago.
He was a 1931 graduate of Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Schmidt was a co-owner and Vice President of sales at Connectron Inc. in Laurence Harbor.
Before that, he had been a Vice President of sales and marketing at the Westinghouse Corporation in Pittsburgh, and Federal Pacific Electric in Newark.
He was a member of the National Electrical Manufacturing Association.
Mr. Schmidt was a 32nd degree mason with the Pittsburgh Consistory, and was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge in Beaver, Pennsylvania.
Surviving are a son, Ted Schmidt; a daughter, Suzanne Bowers; a sister, Jean Weldon, and five grandchildren.
Services will be held on Sunday, October 25, in the Applewood Estates Chapel in Freehold.
Arrangements are being handled by the Freeman Funeral Home in Freehold.
