Constantin Constandis, 89, of Clark died on Saturday, May 22, 1999 at home.
Born in Romania, he had lived in Westfield before moving to Clark six years ago.
Mr. Constandis was an elementary teacher in Romania for 35 years before retiring in 1970.
Surviving are his wife, Aurelia Constandis; two sons, Dr. Decebal Constandis and Dr. C. George Constandis and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 27, in the Walter J. Johnson Funeral Home in Clark.

Thomas Crawford, Jr., 74
Engineer With Rockwell; Was Aircorp Veteran
Thomas Crawford, Jr., 74, of Mesquite, Nevada died on Sunday, May 16, 1999 at home.
Born in Westfield in 1924, he had lived there for over 50 years before living in California and Nevada.
Mr. Crawford was an engineer with Rockwell where he retired.
He was a member of the Elks in Orange, California.
He had served in the Aircorp during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Rosemary Crawford of Mesquite, Nevada; two daughters, Pamela Barry Puckett of Troy, Tennessee and Carol Richard Clark of Louisville, Kentucky; a son, Thomas R. Jody Crawford, 3rd of Plano, Texas; five stepchildren, Bob Neri of Burbank, California, Patti Lemke of Orange, California, David Murphy of Washington, D.C., Tim Murphy of Anaheim, California, and Debie Weaver of Westfield, Indiana; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Iris Crawford Spach of Columbia, South Carolina, Polly Wilcox of Bristol, Connecticut and Jill Mudge Stoll of Orange, California.
Memorial services were held on Thursday, May 20, in Mesquite, Nevada.
Memorial donations may be made to IHC Hospice, 354 East 600, South, St. George, Utah, 84770.

John F. McHugh, 66
Was Vice President Of Re-Insurance in Princeton Company
John F. McHugh, 66, of Bayonne died on Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at Bayonne Hospital in Bayonne.
Born in Jersey City and reared in Bayonne, Mr. McHugh lived in Westfield for 25 years and San Francisco for one year, before returning to Bayonne six months ago.
Mr. McHugh was Vice President of Re-Insurance for Guardian Royal Exchange in Princeton for four years before retiring in 1986.
Previously, he had owned Heritage Intermediation in New York City from 1979 to 1982 and was Vice President for Gerling Global Re-Insurance in New York City and San Francisco for 15 years before leaving in 1979.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Bayonne.
He had graduated from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City in 1953 with a degree in accounting.
He received his masters degree in 1974 from the College of Insurance in New York City.
He was First Lieutenant in Army Intelligence, serving in Cypress during peace time.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Teresa Gannon McHugh; two daughters, Dr. Carol-Ann McHugh of Potomac, Maryland and Beth-Ann Magnotti of Westfield; one son, John T. McHugh of New York, New York; a brother, Thomas McHugh of Houston, Texas and a grandson.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, May 31, at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment was held at St. Gertrude’s Cemetery in Colonia.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.

Henry Jakimer, 73
Was Self-Employed As An Interior Decorator for Many Years
Henry Jakimer, 73, of Manville died on Friday, May 28, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Bayonne, he had lived in Berkeley Heights for 20 years before moving to Manville in 1981.
Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed interior decorator for 30 years.
He was a member of Thomas J. Kavanaugh Post No. 2290 Veterans of Foreign Wars in Manville, and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter No. 16 in Somerville.
He had served in the Coast Guard in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Lorraine Smith, in 1987.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth L. Wolven Petsko-Jakimer; two sons, Henry Jakimer of North Port, Florida and Nick Jakimer of Port Charlotte Florida; two daughters, Lois Kozak of North Port, Florida, and Janet Blasi of Mountainside; two stepsons, Robert Petsko of Manville and John Petsko of Raritan Borough; five stepdaughters, Ruth Ann McAlinden of Nutley, Carol Petsko of Newark, Kathryn Potuda of Phillipsburg, Lois Lukashonak of Somerville and Judy Petsko of Manville; five grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 1, at the Fucillo & Warren Funeral Home in Manville.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Arc of Somerset County, 141 South Main Street, Manville, 08835.

Mary F. Pirolozzi, 86
Former Waitress For North Plainfield Opdyk’s Restaurant
Mary F. Pirolozzi, 86, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, May 30, 1999 at the home of her grandson, Henry Janssen, Jr. in Hillsborough.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Plainfield and settled in Scotch Plains in 1951.
Mrs. Pirolozzi was a waitress for Opdyk’s Restaurant in North Plainfield for 19 years before retiring in 1974.
Previously, she had worked for Bronson Hat Co. in Plainfield for 30 years.
She was a communicant of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains.
She was a member of the B.P.O.E. Ladies Auxiliary No. 1585 of Mountainside for 37 years, the Catholic Golden Age and St. Bartholomew’s Rosary Society.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Jean Parello, in 1992, and her grandson, Vincent Parello, in 1987.
Surviving are her husband, John R. Pirolozzi; a daughter, Madeline Janssen; a brother, Joseph Pompilio; two sisters, Helen Badren and Julie Stanasleo; five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held today, Thursday, June 3, at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains.
Arrangements were handled by the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Women’s Fund of New Jersey and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Dorothy H. Thiele, 86
Dorothy Hope Thiele, 86, of Westfield died on Monday, May 31, 1999 at home.
Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she had lived in Maplewood before moving to Westfield in 1960.
Mrs. Thiele was a graduate of Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1934.
She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and its Alumni Association.
She was predeceased by her husband, John E. Thiele, in 1957.
Surviving is a son, William J. Thiele of Bernardsville.
There was no visitation. A memorial service will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.
Private arrangements were handled by The Gray Funeral Home 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The American Cancer Society.

Jeannette Pfeifer, 84
Former Cashier For F.W. Woolworth & Co., Westfield
Jeannette Pfeifer, 84, of Mountainside died on Saturday, May 29, 1999 at home.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Mountainside for the last 74 years.
Ms. Pfeifer was a cashier for the F.W. Woolworth and Co. in Westfield for 41 years before her retirement in 1974.
Surviving are two sisters, Eleanor F. Pfeifer of Mountainside, and Muriel A. Wilson of Scotch Plains, and a brother, Robert A. Pfeifer of Bridgewater.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 2, at The Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.
Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Mountainside Rescue Squad or to The Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside.

Scott V. Garber, 41
Local Fire Captain; Scotch Plains-Fanwood Soccer Coach
Scott V. Garber, 41, of Fanwood, a Captain with the Westfield Fire Department, died on Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at his home.
A member of the Westfield Fire Department since October of 1980, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in November of 1994 and was elevated to Captain in February.
He graduated in 1980 from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, and was pursuing a degree in fire science technology at Thomas A. Edison State College. He also attended many fire related courses throughout the state.
Captain Garber was very active in the Westfield Firemen’s Mutual Benevolent Association Local No. 30, where he served as Secretary, Executive Delegate, Vice President and President.
Within the New Jersey State FMBA, hewas Chairman of the Board of Trustees and served on many other committees, including Valor Awards.
Captain Garber was a coach in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Soccer Association, and a member of the Monsignor Henry J. Watterson Council No. 1711 of the Knights of Columbus in Westfield.
Surviving are his wife, Debbie Garber; a daughter, Alexandra Garber; a son, Steven Garber; his parents, James and Bernadette Garber of Waretown, and a sister, LeeAnn O’Leary of Bridgewater.
Visitation will take place tomorrow, Friday, June 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dooley Funeral Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 5, at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Garber Children’s Scholarship Fund, in care of Westfield FMBA Local No.30, 405 North Avenue, West, Westfield, 07090.
