John ‘Bob’ Larson, 78
Navy Veteran; Was Mason With Lodge in Westfield
John Robert “Bob” Larson, 78, of Brick died on Monday, May 29, 2000 in the Medical Center of Ocean County in Brick.
Born and raised in Rahway, he had lived in Watchung for 45 years before moving to Brick six months ago.
Mr. Larson had been an Elizabeth Union Local Carpenter for 45 years before retiring in 1983.
He was a communicant and usher at the Mary E. Wilson Memorial Church in Watchung; an exempt volunteer fireman in Watchung and an active Mason with Atlas Pythagoras Lodge, District 13 in Westfield.
He was also a member of the Habitat for Humanity in Plainfield. Mr. Larson served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Haggerty Larson, in 1998, and a son, Dicky Larson, in 1956.
Surviving are three daughters, Anna Cowen of Brick, Janet Stanton of Brunswick, Me. and Martha Rega of Allentown, Pa.; two sisters, Eleanor Hoerrner of Fanwood and Barbara Schroeder of Brunswick, Me., and 10 grandchildren.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, June 2, at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Brick. Interment will be private.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, June 1, at the funeral home.

Lorraine J. Pagano, 65
Lorraine Jean Pagano, 65, of Whitehouse died on Sunday, March 12, 2000 at the Hunterdon Medical Center.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Scotch Plains for most of her life until moving recently to Hunterdon County.
Mrs. Pagano had been employed as a communications representative for Asplundh Tree Service until her retirement.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Johanson of High Bridge and Sue Ellyn Huizing of Hampton; a son, Russell Pagano of Branchville, and six grandchildren.
A private memorial service is planned for Sunday, March 26, at the home of Sue Ellyn Huizing, 27 Lackawanna Street, Hampton, 08827.

Avis Hofler, 85
Avis Hofler, 85, of Plainfield died on Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at the Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare Network in Westfield.
Born in Gateville, N. C., she had lived in Plainfield for more than 75 years.
She was a homemaker. Surviving is a sister, Herella Taylor of Westfield.
Services were held yesterday, Wednesday, March 22, at the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.

George Ortleb, Jr., 80
Owned Market; Received Distinguished Flying Cross
George E. Ortleb, Jr., 80, of Fanwood died on Thursday, March 16, 2000 at his home.
Born in Binghamton, N. Y., he had lived in Westfield before relocating to Fanwood in 1958.
Mr. Ortleb had owned Ortleb’s Market in Westfield before retiring.
He served in the 182nd Bomb Division of the United States Army in Europe during World War II and received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service.
He was a member of the American Legion, Martin Wallberg Post No. 3 in Westfield and of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carmel M. Ortleb, in 1995 and by his son, George E. Ortleb, 3rd, in 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Sharon Kazmierkiewicz of Fanwood; two brothers, Larry Ortleb and Robert Ortleb; a sister, Marion Hines, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 20, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, followed by a Mass at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 US Highway No. 1, North Brunswick, 08902-4301.

Henry E. Loeffler, 83
Had Co-Owned Auto Parts Business in New Providence
Henry E. Loeffler, 83, of Westfield died on Monday, March 13, 2000 at Rahway Hospital.
Born in Irvington, he lived in Westfield for the past 53 years.
Mr. Loeffler had co-owned H& J Auto Parts in New Providence before retiring in 1984.
Prior to that, he had worked as a machinist at various companies for many years.
He served in the United States Army Air Force as a private with the 273rd Air Force Base Unit, and was a veteran of World War II.
He was a communicant of the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Mr. Loeffler was a member of the Old Guard and a member and Chaplain of the American Legion, both in Westfield.
He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Loeffler, in January of this year, and by a daughter, Veronica Louise Loeffler, in 1958.
Surviving are two sons, Edward H. Loeffler of Vermont and Michael V. Loeffler of Edison; three daughters, Patricia A. Slavinski of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Anne Marie Jones of Metuchen and Denise C. Cherepanya of Iselin; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services took place on Saturday, March 18, at the Thomas J. Costello Funeral Home in Iselin, followed by a Mass at St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in Colonia.
Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

Charles Sturcke, 84
Army Veteran; Owned Robert Treat Delicatessen
Charles H. Sturcke, 84, of Whiting died on Sunday, March 19, 2000 at Community Memorial Hospital in Toms River.
Born in Lintig, Germany, he came to the United States in 1935.
He had lived in Westfield for 63 years before relocating to Whiting in 1998.
Mr. Sturcke had owned the Robert Treat Delicatessen in Westfield from 1950 to 1978.
He also worked at Echo Lanes in Mountainside for many years.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Westfield, American Legion Martin Wallberg Post No. 3 in Westfield and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Mountainside.
Mr. Sturcke was also an honorary member of the Westfield PBA.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Brooks Sturcke; two sons, Henry Sturcke of Zurich, Switzerland and Kenneth Sturcke of Beachwood; a daughter, Edith Sturcke of Dunellen; a brother, Harry Sturcke of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Alice Wilkens of Scotch Plains, and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, March 22, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Interment followed at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of the First Baptist Church of Westfield, 170 Elm Street, Westfield, 07090.

Robert W. Field, Jr., 39
Carpenter, Had Attended Westfield Schools
Robert W. Field, Jr., 39, of Easton, Pa., formerly of Westfield, died on Thursday, March 16, 2000 in St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., following a motorcycle accident in Easton.
Born on February 7, 1961 in Summit, he had lived in Westfield for 28 years and attended Westfield schools.
He had also lived in Hawaii for eight years before moving to Easton three years ago.
Mr. Field was a carpenter for Genay Custom Construction in Bethlehem for several years.
He was a United States Navy veteran.
Surviving are his parents, Robert W. Field, Sr. of Elizabeth and Mary “Karen” Morris Field of Easton; two brothers, James M. Field of Bethesda, Md. and Timothy G. Field of Easton; a sister, Ginna Kogler of Easton, and his fianceé, Glynette S. Schmidt of Tewksbury.
Services were held on Sunday, March 19, in the Ashton Funeral Home in Easton.
Interment was private.
Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity of Lehigh Valley, 34 South 10th Street, Allentown, Pa., 18102.

Philip J. Ricca, 66
Philip J. Ricca, 66, of Westfield died on Friday, March 17, 2000 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Newark, he had lived in Union before moving to Westfield 30 years ago.
Mr. Ricca had owned and operated Master Drapery in Kenilworth for more than 30 years before retiring last year.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving as an Intermediate Speed Radio Operator during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Ricca of Westfield; a son, Philip A. Ricca of Westfield; a daughter, Lisa Anne Ricca of Hoboken; two brothers, Salvatore Ricca of Florida and Michael Ricca of Mountainside, and a grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, March 21, in St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment was private.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Westfield Volunteer Rescue Squad, 335 Watterson Street, Westfield, 07090.
