LEROY LEWIS, 41, of Elizabeth, died April 7 at Elizabeth General Hospital, Elizabeth. Born in Neptune, he had resided in Manalapan before moving to Elizabeth. Mr. Lewis was a graduate of Manalapan High School. He is survived by two sisters, Shelly Anne Mapp and Peggy Mapp; and two brothers, Tyrone Mapp and Clerance Mapp. The Freeman Funeral Home, Manalapan, was in charge of arrangements.

HENRY G. JAMES, 85, of Freehold Township, died April 3 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in South Orange, he had resided in Rumson before moving to Freehold Township nine years ago. Mr. James was employed as a sales associate at Sears Roebuck & Co., Red Bank, before retiring in 1963. He was predeceased by his wife, Julia A. (Tenis) James, who died in 1981; a brother, Robert; and a sister, Lora Edgar. He is survived by two sons, Joel H. of Chesterfield, Mo., and Harry M. of Shark River Hills, Neptune Township; his daughter, Roberta J. Gottlieb of Fairfax, Va.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The Freeman Funeral Home, Freehold, was in charge of arrangements.

FLORENCE D. COWLEY, 85, of Freehold Township, died April 10 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. She was born in Ottawa, Canada, and had resided in New Rochelle, N.Y., before moving to Freehold Township 15 years ago. Mrs. Cowley was employed as an executive assistant to the superintendent of BOCES Southern Westchester, Westchester County, N.Y., before her retirement 20 years ago. She was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, Freehold Township. She was a member of the Women’s Club of Freehold; a docent for the Monmouth County Historical Association; a volunteer at Open Door of Freehold; and a member of the AARP. Mrs. Cowley was predeceased by her husband, Joseph P., who died in 1972. Surviving are her son, David Lynch, of New York City; her sister, Gertrude North, of Freehold; two nephews; three nieces; and eight grandnieces and -nephews. Memorial services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.

AGNES WINGER, 96, of Howell, died April 9 at Neptune Rehabilitation and Care Center, Neptune. Born in Stevens Point, Wis., she had resided in the Angle Inn Trailer Park, Howell, and in the surrounding area for most of her life. Mrs. Winger was predeceased by her husband, Jacob, who died in 1961. Surviving are her brother, Adam Pallen, of Amors Junction, Wis.; her friend, Jane Normann, of Howell; and several nephews and nieces. Graveside services were held in Stevens Point under the direction of the C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell.

FLORENCE M. DURYEE, 92, of Philadelphia, died April 9 at Frankford-Torresdale Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in England, she had resided in Freehold and Freehold Township before moving to Toms River in 1999, and later to Philadelphia. Mrs. Duryee was employed as a burler at the A&M Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold, for 20 years before retiring in 1955. She was a former member of Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, Tennent section of Manalapan. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward W., who died in 1978. Surviving are her daughter, Jean Beam, of Philadelphia; her brother, George Skelding, of Austin, Texas; her sister, Mildred Candia, of Freehold; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent section of Manalapan. The C.H.T. Clayton and Son Funeral Home, Adelphia section of Howell, was in charge of arrangements.

LYNN FEINE, 51, of Freehold Township, died April 14 at St. Peter’s University Hospital, New Brunswick. Born in Philadelphia, she had resided in Freehold Township for the past seven years. Mrs. Feine was employed as a clerk at the Monmouth County Hall of Records, Freehold Township, for six years. She was a member of Congregation Agudath Achim, Freehold. Surviving are her husband, Jay; her son, Adam, at home; and her mother, Sylvia Modell, of Wildwood. Funeral services were held at the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan, followed by burial at Congregation Agudath Achim Cemetery, Freehold Township.

ANTHONY JOSEPH "TONY" GIORDANO, 66, of Freehold Township, died April 8 at home. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and had resided in Old Bridge Township for 10 years before moving to Freehold Township 21 years ago. Mr. Giordano was employed as a mechanic for Continental Can, Maspeth, N.Y. He also owned and operated Cafe Coffee, Freehold, for more than 30 years. Mr. Giordano was also a professional clown known as Chips The Clown, and performed for social activities at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Freehold; and for charitable events for the American Cancer Society and the Children’s Specialized Hospital, Toms River. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church; and a member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold. Surviving are his wife, Mary (Dunford) Giordano; his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Minter, of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; and his brother, Arnold, of Florida. The funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, under the direction of the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold.

ANNA JOSEPHINE GUARNIERI, 82, of Manalapan, died April 8 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she had resided there before moving to Manalapan 18 years ago. Mrs. Guarnieri was a communicant of St. Thomas More R.C. Church, Manalapan; a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Our Lady of Loretto Knights of Columbus Council, Brooklyn. She was a volunteer for Deborah Heart and Lung Association. Mrs. Guarnieri was predeceased by her husband, Martin, who died in 1997. Surviving are her son, Paul, of South Carolina; three daughters, Anna Palmieri, of Englishtown, Mary Rose Collura, of Laural Hollow, N.Y., and Maria DeRosa, of Damascus, Md.; three brothers, Joseph Giordano and Nino Giordano, both of Maine, and Sam Giordano, of California; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church, under the direction of the Freeman Manalapan-Marlboro Funeral Home, Manalapan.

GLORIA WENGER KIRBY, of Freehold, died April 9 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. She was born in Long Branch and had resided in Farmingdale before moving to Freehold in 1948. Mrs. Kirby was employed as a waitress at The American Hotel, Freehold, for 45 years. She recently worked as a cashier at Sweet Lew’s Restaurant, also in Freehold. She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar M., who died in 1969; a son, Robert, in 1996; and a daughter, Karen Kirby Kane, in 1992. Surviving are her son, Richard, of South River; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold Township.
