CELORON — Fredrick Leonards, 40, of 27A Gifford Ave., died at 6:14 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan 11, 2000) in WCA. He was born Oct. 16, 1959, in New York City, the son of Elaine Ott. Surviving are his mother and sister, Cora Whitebird, both of Orange, Calif.The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer, pastor of Fluvanna Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Marjorie B. Faulk
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Marjorie B. Faulk, 90, of Traverse City, died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) in Munson Medical Center. She was born Aug. 9, 1909, in Ridgway, Pa., the daughter of Emil and Edith Carlson Bengtson. She was a graduate of Jamestown General Hospital and was employed as a registered nurse for 30 years, working in New York, Ohio and Michigan. She retired from Munson Medical Center in 1974. A resident of Traverse City since 1967, she was a member of the First Congregational Church. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; playing bingo with friends; trips to the casino, especially Las Vegas; frequent trips to Florida and following professional basketball. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She will be missed by all. Surviving are a son, William Faulk Jr. of Traverse City; four grandchildren: Julie Scott of Maitland, Fla., Cindy Lovern of Columbus, S.C., Steve Faulk of Burlington, Ky., and Kathy Halbert of Calhan, Colo; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nina Johnson of Gorton, Conn. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Faulk, whom she married Jan. 14, 1933, and who died June 2, 1966; a daughter, Marilyn Spake in 1995; two grandchildren, both in 1970; and a brother George in 1915.A private graveside service will be held in the spring in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Jamestown. Rita McMullen Fisher Kofod
Rita McMullen Fisher Kofod, 75, of 613 E. Seventh St., formerly of Salamanca, died at 5:52 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) in her home. An area resident for the past 30 years, she was born June 7, 1924, in Salamanca, a daughter of Norman and Anna Thompson McMullen. She was a graduate of Salamanca High School and earned her teaching degree from State College at Fredonia. Before her retirement in 1979, she was employed by the Salamanca School System for 25 years, teaching at the former Ward 1 and Jefferson Street schools. She previously taught at the Killbuck School. She was a communicant of Ss. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church, where she was a lector and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a former communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Salamanca. She was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars John F. Ahrens Post 5296, where she was past president and its current treasurer. She was past Cattaraugus-Allegany Council president and past Sixth District president and treasurer. She also served on many state department chairmanships for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Women’s Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer for the Friendship Fund for more than 10 years. She also was a volunteer for many other civic organizations in the Jamestown area.Surviving is her husband, Sheldon W. Kofod, whom she married Aug. 8, 1970; a son, Richard Fisher of Salamanca; five daughters: Joyce Walsh of East Aurora, Barbara VanBuren of Hanover, Pa.; Rosanne Davis of Busti, Martha ‘‘Sue’’ Livermore of Randolph and Gail John of Bradford; two stepdaughters: Linda Ahern of Greenville, S.C., and Janet Clark of Lakewood; a stepson, James Kofod of Palmdale, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Norma Emborski of Salamanca. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret ‘‘Peggy’’ Plonka; five sisters: Theresa Wrona, Mary Rupple, Lois Blodgett, Margaret Schupenhauer and Florence McMullen; and three brothers: William, Paul and John McMullen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Salamanca. The Rev. John J. Mitka, pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, Silver Creek, will be celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, where a Christian Wake Service will be led by the Rev. Dennis W. Margaret A. Mattison
Margaret A. Mattison, 92, of Frewsburg Rest Home, formerly of Jamestown and Lakewood, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) in WCA Hospital. She was born Feb. 11, 1907, in Sergeant, Pa., the daughter of Johan August and Anna Louise Johnson Anderson.Prior to retirement, she was employed as a clerk and cashier at the former Lakewood Super Duper. She was a member of First Covenant Church and was a former member of the Busti-Lakewood Golden Agers, the Lakewood Rod and Gun and the Lakewood Recreation Commission. She was also a former member of Lady of the Lake Rebekah Lodge and was a past Rebekah Lodge district deputy. She served as an election inspector in Lakewood for many years and was a volunteer worker for several charitable causes. Always willing to be of help to others, she will be remembered for her many acts of kindness to family members and friends in their time of need, for her gifts of baked goods and for the pleasure she received from having children around her.Surviving are three sons: Marshall E. Mattison of Lakewood, Charles ‘‘Jerry’’ Mattison of Maine, N.Y., and James M. Mattison of Jamestown; 10 grandchildren: David Mattison and Lisa Calkins of Maine, Sherry Mattison of Rochester, Cynthia Burns of Westfield, Gregory Mattison of Lakewood, Michael Mattison of Gaithersburg, Md., Deborah and Scott Mattison, both of Jamestown, Melissa Mattison of State College, Pa., and Lori Mattison of New York City; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Mattison, whom she married Feb. 13, 1932, in Randolph, and who died July 8, 1985; a grandson, Steve Mattison on Sept. 3, 1975; and three brothers: Everett, Charles and Paul Anderson.The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. SOUTH DAYTON — Dorothy C. Bogue, 84, of Round Top Road, Forestville, formerly of Butcher Road, South Dayton, died at 6:38 a.m. Friday (Feb. 4, 2000) in Lutheran Social Services. She was born July 11, 1915, in Buffalo, the daughter of Robert and Bertha Munsell Murphy. She was a former member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Perrysburg. Surviving are three sons: Daryl Clarke of Pikesville, Tenn., James Clarke of Forestville, and Thomas Clarke of Dunkirk; two stepdaughters: Connie Lupean of Salisbury, Md., and Clara Brown of Randolph; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Edna Collins of Dunkirk. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan E. Bogue, who died Oct. 5, 1987; a sister, Mae Hopkins; a stepson, Ramon Bogue; a half-brother, James Reeb; two half-sisters: Ruth White and Eldine Lauber; and two great-granddaughters.The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Riles Funeral Home, 39 Main St., Forestville, N.Y. David Ernest Carlson, 65, of Tanglewood Manor, W.E., died at 12:35 p.m. Thursday (Feb. 3, 2000) in WCA Hospital.A lifelong area resident, he was born May 9, 1934, in Jamestown, the son of Maurice and Lorinda Lindquist Carlson. He loved to bat and catch a baseball and watching the Jamestown Jammers. His favorite major league team was the New York Yankees. He enjoyed the Friday lunches at local restaurants and the day trips with his family at Tanglewood Manor. He loved long walks, the woods, fishing and animals.Surviving are two brothers: Richard M. Carlson of Jamestown and Daniel E. Carlson of Frewsburg.Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Suzanne Louise Carlson, who died in 1941. A private family service will be held. The Rev. C. WARREN — Jessie M. Knight, 89, of 18 Park Ave., formerly of Oil City, Pa., died Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2000) in Warren General Hospital.She was born Oct. 15, 1910, in East Mead Township, Crawford County, Pa., the daughter of Mary Dain and Alfred Maloney. A Warren resident since 1960, she was a housewife and a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and its Red Bird Circle.Surviving are two daughters: Carol Knowlton and Suzanne Shall, both of Warren; five grandchildren; three sisters: Isabelle Dorwart, Mildred Huber and Wilma Campbell; and three brothers: Orville, Elton and Kenneth, all of Meadville, Pa. She was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Knight in 1973; and two brothers: Auldrain and Harold Maloney. The funeral will be at noon today in the Mark S. Patterson Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Higginbotham, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate. LONGWOOD, Fla. — Vinna Daugharthy Mansell, 83, of 2400 Palmetto Drive, formerly of Russell, died Friday (Jan. 21, 2000) in Florida Hospital, Orlando, Fla.She was born March 3, 1916, in Russell, the daughter of Elson B. and Julia Adams Daugharthy. A 1932 graduate of Russell High School, she was a lifelong member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and, a long with her husband, served in the ministry for more than 50 years.Surviving are her husband, Elder Leslie R. Mansell, whom she married Dec. 31, 1935; two daughters: Helen Dees of Paradise, Calif., Dianne Duncan of Apopka, Fla.; a son, Leslie Mansell Jr. of Longwood, Calif.; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. A.P. Daugharthy of Baltimore and Russell. She was preceded in death by three brothers: Vertner, Alton and Roy Daugharthy. The funeral was held Jan. 25 in Forest Lake Seventh Day Adventist Church, Apopka, Fla. Pastor William Quigley officiated. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens, Forest City, Fla.
