Marion A. Hurlburt, of Lima, formerly of Mendon, died on Friday, May 12, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Robert; two daughters, Carol Arnold and Linda Moss; four grandchildren, Kelly Bock, Amy Quinn, James Skowronski and Corey Moss; and five great grandchildren.
A celebration of her life was held on Sunday, May 21 at the West Bloomfield Congregational Church. Friends wishing may express their sympathy to the American diabetes Association in her memory.
HELEN TAGGART TAYLOR
Helen Taylor, a gracious Rochesterian, died at her home in Honeoye Falls, on Wednesday, May 17, 2000. She was 83.
Born in Indianapolis, in 1917, she was the daughter of Lillian and Alexander L. Taggart, founder of Campbell Taggart Bakeries. She was a graduate of Vassar College where she majored in art history and developed a talent in portraiture. Married for 53 years to the late Joseph William Taylor, Treasurer of Bausch & Lomb, she was actively involved in many community organizations, volunteering her services for a number of prominent civic and charitable groups in the city. Both she and her husband were well-known bird watchers and traveled extensively around the country and the world looking at birds and adding to their "life firsts." She held the distinction of being the first woman to see over 600 North American bird species. An enthusiastic naturalist, Mrs. Taylor was known as a sweet, refined lady of grace and style.
She is survived by three children, Ann Taylor of Scottsdale, Arizona, Joseph Taylor of Healdsburg, California, and Mary Taylor of Honeoye Falls; and four grandchildren, Alyssa Wendt of San Francisco, Charles McIntyre of Santa Cruz, California, Amy Taylor of Occidental, California and Lucas Taylor of Healdsburg. She is also survived by two sisters, Elizabeth McCreary of Sedona, Arizona and Mona Pochelon of Saginaw, Michigan; and her brother-in-law, Robert B. Taylor of Rochester.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice, c/o Visiting Nurse Foundation, 2180 Empire Blvd., Webster, NY 14580; the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Avenue, Rochester, NY 14607; or Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association, 1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, PA 19529.
MARSHA J. (HOOVER) WOLLESEN
Marsha J. Wollesen died on Wednesday, May 17, 2000. She is survived by her husband, Edward; daughters, Kari (Michael) Carlotta, Michelle Floyd, Christina Wollesen and Kimberly (Brian) Judge; granddaughter, Shaylyn Marie Judge; brothers, Robert (Connie) and James (Nu) Hoover; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wollesen was a member of the Webster-Fairport Elks Lodge #2396 and Lady of Elk, First Lady 1999-2000.
Calling hours were held on Friday, May 19, at the Burns-Ryan Funeral Home, 1795 East Ridge Road. A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 20 at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3736 St. Paul Blvd. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Webster-Fairport Elks, Attention: Marsha Wollesen Memorial Fund, PO Box 105l, Webster, NY 14580.
WILLIAM CRAIG APPLER
Craig Appler, age 35, died suddenly on Sunday, May 21, 2000, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Mr. Appler was born on June 6, 1964. He was a 1982 graduate of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School. He was the beloved husband of Lynn (Bowers), and the devoted father of Justin Robert Appler, born December 1, 1999.
Mr. Appler is also survived by his parents, Merry K. and Eric Seablom of Honeoye Falls; and William and Beverly Appler of Baltimore, Maryland; sisters Merry Elizabeth (Craig) Wagner of Henrietta and Kristin (Dennis) Kane of Fairport; brother Kurt Seablom of Costa Mesa, California; nephews Craig and Mark Wagner and Ryan Kane; and grandmother Merry K. Rogers of Rochester.
Funeral Services were held in Baltimore.
JOHN P. BIRCHENOUGH
John P. Birchenough, of Honeoye Falls, and Livonia, died on Thursday, May 19, 2000 at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara in 1987. He is survived by daughters, Marsha (Robert) Trainham of Pulaski, New York, Judy (Sargent) Frappier of Naples, Sue (Rick) Finn of Livonia, 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Garnet (Theresa) Birchenough, Andre (Dorothy) Birchenough and sister, Dorothy Goutremout all of Lowville, New York; sister, Theresa (Clyde) Brown of Sandy Creek, New York; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held on Sunday, May 21 at the Kevin Dougherty Funeral Home in Livonia. A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, May 22 at St. Joseph’s Church in Livonia. Burial will be at St. Paul of the Cross Cemetery, Honeoye Falls. Memorials may be sent to Honeoye Falls Fire Department, Livingston County Hospice Fund, 2 County Campus, Mt. Morris, NY 14510 or the Teresa House, 21 Highland Road, Geneseo, NY 14454.
CARLO A. "CARL" MURANO
Carlo A. Murano died on Monday, May 22, 2000. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, LaRue Murano; children Belinda (Michael) Nyznyk of North Carolina, Carl A. (Regina Gortych, DDS) Murano, DDS of Honeoye Falls, and Sandra Cantie; grandchildren April Cameron, Lacey Cantie, Nikolaus Murano, Katie Cantie; brothers, Joseph (Lena) Murano, Jerry Murano of Washington; sister, Genevieve (George) D’Andrea; dear friends, Fred E. and Jean Schichler; many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, May 24, 2000 at the DiPonzio Funeral Home in Gates. A Funeral Mass was held on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at St. Helen’s Church on Hinchey Road. Interment, private.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 10609, Rochester, NY 14609 in his memory.
GERTRUDE E. (WALTER) PORTER
Gertrude E. (Walter) Porter, of Rush, died on May 25, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Eugene R. Porter; sons Richard (Deborah) Porter of Batavia, and Michael (Debra) Porter of Valparais, Indiana; daughters Carole (Scott) Bitzer of Mount Wolf, Pennsylvania and Betty Porter (Patrick Sullivan) of Rochester; sister-in-law Rose Walter of Webster; and six grandchildren, Kathleen, David, Michael, Rebekah and Aaron Porter, Alexander Bitzer.
Calling hours were held Sunday, May 28, 2000 and Monday, May 29, 2000 at the Henry D. Halloran Son Inc. funeral home, 5781 West Henrietta Road. The funeral was held on Tuesday, May 30, 2000 at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Henrietta. Interment was at Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers. Donations may be made to the Rush Fire Department, Rush Ambulance or to the St. Mark Lutheran Memorial Fund.
