Gilda (Hilda) A. Mucha

Mrs. Gilda (Hilda) A. Mucha, 83, formerly of Fort Plain, died Sunday evening, April 15, 2001 at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
Born October 24, 1917 in Fort Plain to Allesandro and Vincenzia Acovangelo Giovannone, Mrs. Mucha attended Fort Plain High School.
Mrs. Mucha was employed at General Electric of Fort Edward, N.Y., as a payroll clerk. She was previously employed as a payroll clerk at Beech Nut in Canajoharie for years. Mrs. Mucha was also an organist for 20 years at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain.
At one time, she lived in North Carolina, Florida.
She was a former member of St. James Roman Catholic Church in Fort Plain and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court Catherine Esther #1264.
Survivors include one son, Harold C. Siver, Jr., Remson, N.Y.; one daughter, Geraldine M. Augustine, Canajoharie, N.Y.; one stepdaughter, Judy Vaughn, Schenectady, N.Y.; two sisters, Gloria Friello, Danbury, CT., and Doris Dutcher, Fort Plain, N.Y.; one brother, Emerson Giovannone, Palatine Bridge, N.Y.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private services will be held at St. James Roman Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter Inc., 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, N.Y. 12166.
Arrangements were by Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain.

James Clark Suits
April 14, 2001
Mr. James Clark Suits of Fiery Hill Road, Fort Plain, was born in the Town of Stark, Herkimer County on March 10, 1916 and died in the Little Falls Hospital on April 14, 2001. He was a dairy farmer, factory worker, avid reader and horse lover. His extensive knowledge of local genealogy and history will be sorely missed.
He graduated from the eighth grade at the Cramers Corners School House, attended Fort Plain Central High School and graduated from Van Hornesville Central School in 1932. Following graduation, he entered into farming with his parents and was married on October 12, 1940.
James served in the U.S. Army, 8th Infantry, 4th Division during World War II. In 1946, he began Carm-Co Farm which he operated until September 1969. During his career as a dairy farmer, he was a member of the Herkimer County Executive Committee, the Farm Bureau Board and the Eastern Milk Producers. From 1969 until his retirement in May of 1983, he worked at various factories such as Motronics, the Palatine Dye, General Electric and Chicago Pneumatic.
James was the son of Clark Ward Suits and M. Amelia Gregory, both of whom are deceased. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Kathleen Collins Suits; his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Robert Smith; a grandson and his wife, Wade Smith and Daedre Levine; a grandson and his fiancee, Aaron Smith and Lisa Rhodes; a sister, Edna Suits Rogers; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family of James Suits most gratefully acknowledges the kindness and unselfish service provided by the Van Hornesville Fire Department, the Midvale Ambulance Service, the nurses and staff members of Little Falls Hospital and Drs. Joseph Apoine, Om Wadera and Gregory O'Keefe. The Suits family also wishes to thank family, friends and neighbors for their thoughtfulness during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 18 at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain. Family and friends may be received at calling hours from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening, April 17, at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Kenneth Dingman.
Interment will be at the Van Hornesville Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Van Hornesville Fire Department, P.O. Box 6, Van Hornesville, N.Y. 13475, Midvale Ambulance Service or the Starkville Methodist Church, both in care of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, N.Y. 13339.

Robert D. Mochrie

NY Bob (Robert D. Mochrie), 71, Bay City, MI, died Saturday morning April 14, 2001 at the Bay Medical Center.
He was born Seotember 14, 1929 in Amsterdam, N.Y.
The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 18, 2001 at 11 a.m. from St. James Church with the Rev. Peter J. Gaspeny officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Bay City, under the supervision of the Bay County Veterans Council.
Friends may call at the Ambrose Funeral Home, 1200 Garfield Avenue, Bay City, on Tuesday from 2 to 9 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday after 10 a.m. There will be a parish vigil service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

George Hinkle

Mr. George Hinkle, 71, of Hickory Hill Road, Fonda, died Monday evening at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, and will be announced.

Joseph P. Slezak
April 19, 2001
Mr. Joseph P. Slezak, 86, of Mohr Road, Town of Florida, died Thursday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, following a short illness.
He was born January 15, 1915 in the Town of Florida, a son of the late Michael and Sophie Kwarta Slezak. He was educated locally and always lived in the Town of Florida.
Mr. Slezak was a lifetime dairy farmer.
He was a member of St. Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic Church in Rotterdam Junction. He was a member and past president of the Farm Bureau of Montgomery County, an Agway Committeeman and a member of the Montgomery County Service Association. He was a Co-Operator with the Montgomery County Soil & Water Conservation District and was named "Farmer of the Year."
He married Bernice Sasowski Slezak September 16, 1939.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Barbara Krawiecki and husband Val, Fort Johnson; two sons, David Slezak and wife Cheryl, Town of Florida, and Kenneth Slezak and wife Kathleen, Rotterdam Junction; ten grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Steve Slezak and one sister, Emily Podolec.
The funeral will be 11 o'clock Monday morning at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church Street, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 noon at St. Margaret of Cortona Church, Rotterdam Junction, with the Rev. Dennis Murphy as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret of Cortona Church, 2 Putnam St., Rotterdam Junction, N.Y. 12150 or to a charity of choice.

Edward F. Creglis

Edward F. Creglis, 86, of the Fulton County Infirmary died Thursday afternoon at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
Arrangements by the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, are incomplete and will be announced.

Agnes Bowman
May 14, 2001
Mrs. Agnes K. Bowman, 92, of River Street, Nelliston, died Monday, May 14, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness.
Born September 7, 1908 in Fort Plain, she was the daughter of Edward and Agnes McCarthy Kiniry. She was educated in Fort Plain schools.
She was employed as a machine operator at the former Helmont Mills in St. Johnsville for 10 years. Previously, she was employed as a machine operator for the former Philwick Mills of Fort Plain and also at Arkell & Smith of Canajoharie for 18 years.
She was a lifelong area resident and was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Fort Plain.
She was a former member of the Altar Rosary Society of the church and an avid gardener.
She married Donald C. Bowman January 22, 1928 in Fort Plain. He died August 1, 1985.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan B. Pomella, Nelliston, and Janet M. Amatangelo, Leesburg, FL; two grandchildren, Denise and Joseph Amatangelo, Miami, FL; a great-grandchild, Amy Amatangelo, Miami, FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Friday, May 18, at St. James Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. Calling hours are 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, N.Y. 13339

Robert James Getz

Mr. Robert James Getz, 79, of Mesa Drive, Mayfield, Kentucky, died Monday, May 15, 2001 at Jackson Purchase Medical Center.
Born December 31, 1921 in Canajoharie to Edward Michael and Florence C. Phelps Getz, he was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1939. He graduated from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Boston, MA, in 1942.
Mr. Getz was employed as an accountant at Life Savers, Inc. in Canajoharie from 1942 until retiring in 1983 from Nabisco Co.
Mr. Getz resided in Mayfield, KY, since 1998. At one time, he lived in Memphis, TN, and Nelliston, N.Y.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marines as a Master Technical Sergeant.
He was a member of Capleville United Methodist Church, Memphis, TN, and a member of the former Knights of Pythias in Fort Plain.
He married Carmeta N. Nellis Getz July 10, 1942 in Fort Plain.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara A. and Robert Norquest, Baltimore, MD; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Mary Ann Getz, Mayfield, KY; a brother, Donald H. Getz, Montvale, NJ; two granddaughters, Tiffany Norquest, Baltimore, MD, and Stephanie Getz Upshaw, Paducah, KY; two step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Alan Baumback officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery. Calling hours are noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Fort Plain United Methodist Church, 39 Center Street, Fort Plain, N.Y. 13339.

Adelaide M. Morris
May 15, 2001
Mrs. Adelaide M. Visione Morris, age 89, formerly of Prospect Ave., Gloversville, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
She was born March 18, 1912 in Saratoga Springs, the daughter of Ernest and Mary Silletto Visione. She lived in Johnstown following her marriage and in Florida for several years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville.
Her husband, Harry W. Morris, whom she married in 1932, died in 1959. Her son, Harry W. Morris Jr., died in 1987.
Mrs. Morris is survived by her daughters, Betty A. Wiltey and Marilyn J. Salvione of Gloversville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren and several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David L. Tressic, pastor of Sacred Heart Church, officiating. Interment will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown, Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.

Carmen Giaquinto
Graveside services for Carmen Giaquinto will be held Friday, May 18, 2001 at 11 a.m. at West St. Johnsville Cemetery with Sister Dolores Stevens of St. Patrick's Church officiating.
Arrangements are by Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center Street, St. Johnsville.

Donald L. Smith Sr.

A military graveside service for Donald L. Smith, Sr. will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak officiating. Mr. Smith died December 15, 2000.
Arrangements are by the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, Inc., Broadalbin.

Gertrude Szala
June 10, 2001
Gertrude Anna Saj Szala, 74, of Northern Blvd., Hagaman, and most recently of the E.L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, passed away Sunday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in Amsterdam September 7, 1926, a daughter of Matthew and Josephine Broztowska Saj. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and attended local schools. Mrs. Szala was the co-owner along with her husband of the former Sky Harbor Tavern on Market Street in Amsterdam for many years before retiring in 1984.
She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She most recently attended mass at the E.L. Wilkinson Facility with Father Stanley Swierzowski as the celebrant.
She married her devoted husband, John A. Szala, September 1, 1946. He died May 23, 1990.
Her survivors include her loving children: sons, David Szala and his wife, Naomi, of Amsterdam, and Thomas Szala of Hagaman, and daughters, Christine Zugzda and husband, Richard, of Amsterdam and Diane Bramer and her husband, Les, of Amsterdam; one brother, Theodore Saj of Amsterdam; two sisters, Monica Anderson and Clara Klementowski of Amsterdam; nine beloved granddaughters and two cherished great-granddaughters; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist in Amsterdam. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. John the Baptist or to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, both in care of the funeral home.

Robert J. Brumley
June 10, 2001
Mr. Robert J. Brumley, 81, formerly of Holland Garden Apts., Amsterdam, died Sunday evening at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam where he had resided since 1992.
Born June 24, 1919 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Smith and Hazel Ryder Brumley. He was a lifelong area resident and attended Amsterdam schools.
Mr. Brumley was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II where he served on the USS Texas.
He was employed as a night watchman for many years at Mohasco Industries in Amsterdam until retiring in 1973.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Mr. Brumley is survived by his devoted wife, the former Clara Schuttig, whom he married May 4, 1943; his loving children, two sons, Robert L. Brumley of Amsterdam and Smith D. Brumley of Broadalbin; five daughters, Carol Mann of Albany, Bonnie Surento of Fort Johnson, Veronica Bellman, Lorraine Gunning and Susan D. Brumley, all of Rochester; 12 beloved grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory in Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, NY 12010.
