Rita Cardarella LaBate, 72, of Amsterdam, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with her loving family at her side. She was born March 22, 1938, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary Ciamprone Cardarella in Amsterdam, NY.
During her beautiful life, she was employed at various modeling agencies. Winning local, state and national competitions. She was crowned Miss Amvet USA in 1955. Rita cared deeply for her family, she devoted her life to caring for her grand children.
Her loving family includes her husband Jacob “Jake” LaBate, her son Bruce (Debbie) Van Buren of Amsterdam, NY and daughters Tracy (Rick) Sherlock of Amsterdam, NY and Lynn (John) Martin of Saratoga, NY. Grandchildren Douglas, Teegan, Bruce, Barbara, Kade, Salvatore and Jacob; and her sister MaryLou (Tom) Adamchick of Amsterdam, NY. A niece Kristen Levendusky, and a nephew William Gleason. In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her sister Sandra Levendusky, brother Peter Cardarella and a niece Kelly Cadmus.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday August 7, 2010 at 11:15 AM, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Amsterdam, NY. In accordance to Rita’s wishes there will be no calling hours. Memorial Contributions may be made in her memory to the Upstate Medical University in care of the funeral home office. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam NY 12010.

Gloria Santiago

Gloria Santiago, 89, of Farewell Street, Newport, RI died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Newport Hospital,
Newport, RI.
She was formerly a resident of Amsterdam , NY and the wife of the
late Aurelio Santiago. Born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico on August 1, 1920 ,
she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria ( Colon ) Ortiz.
She was employed in Amsterdam at the former Coleco Industries until her
retirement in 1982.
Gloria is survived by six of her children; Hilda Camacho, Portsmouth , RI , , Pete Santiago, Newport , RI , Gloria Schwartz, Seal Beach , CA , Ed Santiago, Amsterdam , NY , Jose Santiago, Coconut Creek , FL , and Kina Santiago-Ocasio, Edison , NJ . .She is the grandmother of 20, a Great Grandmother of 28, and a Great-Great Grandmother of 4.She was preceded in death by two daughters, Maria Surita and Nora Zayas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:15A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main St. Amsterdam with Father John Medwid as celebrant. Interment will follow at St Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY. A Memorial Mass will also be held in Newport , R.I. in August.
The Santiago family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Meals on Wheels www.rimeals.org 70 Bath Street , Providence , RI 02908 or the Visiting Nurse Services of Newport & Bristol Counties, www.vnsri.org. 21 Chapel St. Newport , RI 02840. John F. Keating
Born in Amsterdam, NY on Jan. 15, 1941
At Rest Jul. 23, 2010 and resided in Schenectady, NY.

Mr. John F. "Jack" Keating, 69, of Rector Road, Schenectady, NY died peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2010 at his home following a short illness. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 15th, 1941 he was the son of the late John F. Keating and Gertrude Robinson Keating.

Jack worked for General Electric as a manager in the turbine department for many years. He was a member of the Model Train Association; enjoyed cooking and was as avid sportsman. He was of the Catholic faith and was a life member of the NRA.

On December 5, 1964 he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Suski. Sadly that union lasted only 30 years until her passing on February 16, 1994. He is survived by his good friends Larry and Barbara Boord of Troy, NY; his cousin Sr. Jean Keating of Latham, NY; a sister in law, Linda Kazuba and her husband Archie of Long Island, NY; and many friends.

Prayer services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10 o'clock at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 o'clock at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Medwid as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fort Johnson, NY. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9 until 10a.m. at the funeral home Tuesday morning. Donations in his memory may be made to the Sister's of Saint Joseph of Carondelet, 385 Watervliet- Shaker Road, Latham, NY 12111.

Marie J. "Jeanette" Miller
Born in Amsterdam, New York on Apr. 7, 1932

Mrs. Marie J. “Jeanette” Miller, 78 years old, of Co. Hwy. 126, died Tuesday at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Miller was born April 7, 1932, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Nicholas and Stella Korabic DiCaprio. She was a life long resident of the Amsterdam area and was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mrs. Miller had been employed by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. She was a bookkeeper for the former Kreative Kitchens, the former Rapello’s Pharmacy, the former Fultonville Pharmacy and retired in 2006 from Add-Life Kitchens.
Marie was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church in Hagaman. She enjoyed reading and crocheting. Marie loved spending time with her family. She was there for everyone.
Marie married John J. Miller on August 5, 1951 who survives. She is also survived by her son John J. (Sharon) Miller, Jr. of Sprakers and Richard J. (Stephanie) Miller of Amsterdam, her daughters Linda (Richard) Bartosik of Amsterdam and Deborah (Mark) Quiri of Ft. Hunter, her brother Sisto DiCaprio of Rotterdam, 7 grandchildren: Erin and Ashley Bartosik, Jacob and Lucas Miller, Katherine and Daniel Quiri, and Brandon Miller. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and her many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematorium. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made: Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 11, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Ruth Jane Cripe
Born in Town of Glen on Feb. 26, 1916
At Rest Jul. 20, 2010 and resided in Amsterdam, NY.

Mrs. Ruth J. Cripe, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2010 at the River Ridge Living Center. Born in the Town of Glen on February 26, 1916 she was the only daughter of the late Walter and Matilda Anderson. Ruth graduated from the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Class of 1933.

A lifelong area resident, Ruth was employed for the former Norstar Bank in Amsterdam until her retirement in 1980. She was a member of the Fultonville United Methodist Church, the Port Jackson Seniors, the Iroquois Seniors and the Horace J. Inman Center. Ruth was also very active with the Order of the Eastern Star: Art- Well Otsquago Chapter 208 and the Order of the Amaranth: St. Monica Court #61.

On November 25, 1937 she was united in marriage to Donald E. Cripe. That union lasted 49 years until his passing on October 8, 1986. She was also predeceased by her only son, Jeffrey Cripe; and her three brothers, Schuyler, Albert and Walter.

Ruth had a zest for life. She was a very caring person; who had many passions in life including: traveling, gardening, decorating, and her specialties: flowers arranging and homemade pies. She always arrived with a pie in hand, a bouquet of fresh picked flowers and a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Ruth is survived by her loving friends Gary and Barbara; and nieces, nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Sarah Jane Sanford Home for Women and the River Ridge Living Center for their love and compassionate care extended to Ruth and her family.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Friday, July 23, 2010 from 12 noon until 2p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home; where a Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:30p.m.to celebrate Ruth’s life. Interment will follow in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville, NY.

Contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam or GAVAC in care of the funeral home office.

Doris E. Rogers
Born in Amsterdam, New York on May 17, 1928

Mrs. Doris Edith Rogers, 82 years old, of McCaffery Avenue, died peacefully on Monday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, with her loving family by her side. Mrs. Rogers was born May 17, 1928 in Amsterdam, a daughter of Thomas and Lois Ruback Ireland. She was a life long resident of Hagaman and a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, class of 1945. Doris was an avid reader, gardener, enjoyed spending time outside and loved animals. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by her family and many friends that she made during her 82 years.
Doris married Leonard P. Rogers on November 15, 1947. He died April 27, 1990. She is survived by her son Thomas, and his wife Anolla Rogers of Amsterdam, her sister Jane Spencer, her granddaughters: Christina Rogers-Spang and her husband David, Rebecca Rogers and her husband Michael Mancini and Patricia Rogers. Doris’s granddaughters were very special to her, and meant the world to her. Doris is also survived by her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many cousins, nieces, nephews and her beloved dog, Margaret. Her valiant battle with cancer, and positive attitude, were an inspiration to all who knew her. In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was predeceased by her sisters, Frances Schneider and Chloe DiScenza.
Funeral services will be held 10:30am Friday at Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, followed at 11:15am by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stephen’s Roman Catholic Church, Hagaman, with Fr. Pascal Iannotti officiating. Burial is in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 8:30 until 10:30am at the funeral home prior the funeral service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made: Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 5 Computer West, Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205.
