Bertha Bailey
December 25, 1996
Mrs. Bertha J. bailey, 72, of White Birch Road, Northville, died Wednesday at the Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after a long illness.
Born in Saratoga Springs, Mrs. Bailey attended Foxhill Schools.
For many years she was a secretary at the family-owned Bailey Saw Mill.
Her husband, George C. Bailey Sr., died in 1990.
Survivors include a son, Clifford Bailey of Northville; four stepsons, Roger Bailey of Broadalbin, George C. Bailey Jr. of Maple Grove, and Robert and Richard Bailey, both of Northville; two stepdaughters, Nancy Curtis of Northville and Dorothy Edwards of Edinburg, a brother, Floyd LaPort of Edinburg; a sister, Gertrude Baldwin of Hagaman; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St.
Spring burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northampton Ambulance Corps, Northville, 12134.

Elwood Arnold
December 26, 1996
Elwood H. Arnold, 76, of Sacandaga Road, West Charlton, died Thursday at his residence after a long illness.
Born and raised in West Charlton, he was the son of James H. and Bertha Holbrook Arnold. He worked his lifetime on the family farm in Charlton, Arnold Haven Inc.
He was active in the Dairy of Distinction Program, NYS Holstein Association, Farm Bureau, Cooperative Extension, and was a past member of the Charlton Planning Board and the Charlton Snowmobile club.
Mr. Arnold was a charter member and the longest serving past chief of the West Charlton Volunteer Fire Department.; as well as a life-long member of the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Lou Lachtrupp Arnold, three sons, Richard H. Arnold, and Charles A. Arnold both of West Charlton; Kent C. Arnold of Long Beach, Calif., a sister, Dorothy Garrison of Ballston Spa; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church 67 at 147 West Charlton.
Burial will take place in West Charlton Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richard J. Ryan Funeral Home, Sacandaga Road, Galway Village.
Memorial contributions may be made to the West Charlton United Presbyterian Church or West Charlton Volunteer Fire Department, Hospice of Amsterdam, or to the American Cancer Society.

Eva Komar
December 23, 1996
Mrs. Eva F. Komar, 72, of Blaine Road, Canajoharie, died Monday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Oppenhiem, N.Y., she was the daughter of Oscar and Bessie Schulenburg Ferguson.
Mrs. Komar was a lifelong area resident and attended school at the former Chattsey School in Oppenhiem.
Mrs. Komar was employed by Duofold Manufacturing in Ilion for a number of years, and was last employed by Johnstown Knitting in Fort Plain, retiring in 1991.
Mrs. Komar is survived by her mother, Bessie Schulenburg Ferguson of Lassellsville, a long-time companion, Franklin J. Pettit of Canajoharie, a son, Orville Ferguson of Lassellsville; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
It was Mrs. Komar's request that there be no funeral or calling hours.
Cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory in Cherry Valley.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Komar's memory to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Corp or to the Ames Volunteer Fire Department.

Henry Slezak
December 25, 1996
Henry J. Slezak, 81, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Wednesday.
Born in Brady, Pa., he moved to Amsterdam as a small child. He moved to Schenectady in 1959 and was an electrician for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 166. He then moved to St. Petersburg, in 1979 where he was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Polish American Society.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years; Lois E. Slezak; two daughters, Joan M. Pieniazek and Joan A. Kaylor; a son, Dale W. Slezak all of St. Petersburg, Fla; a sister, Sophie Mann of Amsterdam; a brother, Edward of Beverly Hills, Fla., and six grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, Ninth Street Chapel, St. Petersburg, FL.

Louise Denton
December 26, 1996
Louise H. Denton, 89, formerly of Glen Avenue, Amsterdam, died Thursday afternoon at the Montgomery Meadows after a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam on Nov. 8, 1907, she was a daughter of Leo and Henrietta Kruger Gardner. She lived in Amsterdam all of her life and was educated here. Mrs. Denton was employed at one time by the Bigelow Sanford Carpet Company as a setter retiring many years ago.
She was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Norman F. Denton died in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyliss A. Bain of Amsterdam; a grandson, Norman G. Gain of Fultonville; A granddaughter, Patricia Bain of Tribes Hill; two great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Services are at the convenience of the family with burial in Fairview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and memorials may be made to the Huntington Disease-Rochester Chapter, 1115 Harwood Lane, Rochester 14616 or to the Montgomery Meadows Auxiliary in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Marion Bacon
December 26, 1996
Mrs. Marion L. Bacon, 87, of the Fulton County Infirmary, died Thursday at the infirmary after a long illness.
Born in Wells and a graduate of Wells High School, Mrs. Bacon lived in Gloversville most of her life.
She also lived in Newcomb during her younger years.
Mrs. Bacon was a glovemaker at the former Imperial Glove Company.
After that, she was a factory worker for the St. Thomas Company for more than 20 years, retiring about eight years ago.
Mrs. Bacon was a member of the Cayadutta Chapter 166 Order of the Eastern Star.
Her husband, William Bacon, whom she married in 1938, died in 1977.
Survivors include three sons, Robert B. Bacon of Petaluma, Calif., Roger D. Bacon of Delmar, and Richard W. Bacon of Hudson Falls; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
There are no calling hours.
Spring burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Arrangements are by the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Thelma Condon
December 26, 1996
Thelma L. Condon, 81, of Eaker Road, Stone Arabia, died Thursday at her home after a short illness.
Born in Meco on Nov 20, 1915, she was the daughter of Earl Whitehouse and Cassie Allen. She was educated at the Meco grade school and Knox High School in Johnstown.
Mrs. Condon was a homemaker.
She was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Condon attended Pilgrim Holiness Church in Northville.
She married James L. Condon on June 27, 1954.
Survivors, including her husband, are one step-son, James L. Condon of Fort Plain; one sister, Audrey E. Hisert of Stone Arabia; two brothers, Harold W. Whitehouse of Gloversville, and Gerald O. Whitehouse of Fort Plain; two step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain.
The Rev. Brenda Wallick will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
Calling hours are Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, Box 126, Canajoharie, 13317.

Catherine Dylong
December 26, 1996
Catherine Dylong, 84, of West Hawthorne Lane, Frankfort, Ill., formerly of James Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at Columbia Field Osteopathic Hospital and Medical Center in Columbia Field, Ill.
Born Jan. 1, 1912 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary Mason Dylong.
She resided and was educated in Amsterdam. She moved to Illinois six years ago.
She attended St. Stanislaus School in Amsterdam and worked at the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills. Later, she worked for Coleco Industries and then in the kitchen at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital until retiring.
Ms. Dylong was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam.
Survivors include a sister, Mary Yazum of Frankfort, Ill.; a nephew, Michael Yazum of Frankfort; a great-nephew and a great-niece, all of Frankfort.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church.

Joseph Domkowski
December 26, 1996
Joseph A. Domkowski, 81, of Northampton Road, Amsterdam, died Thursday of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Mayfield.
Born Sept. 6, 1915 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Stanislaus and Stephania Grunski Domkowski. He was a lifelong area resident and was educated in local schools, including St. Stanislaus School in Amsterdam.
Mr. Domkowski was employed at the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Mills and later worked as a steel worker at General Electric in Schenectady.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church in Amsterdam.
He married Genevieve Litwa Domkowski on Sept. 7, 1947.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, David Domkowski of Tacoma, Wash. and Timothy J. Domkowski; three sisters, Sadie Olszewski of Amsterdam, Sophie Picco of Albany and Josie Sepanik of Chicago; and three grandsons. He was predeceased by a son, Dennis Domkowski in 1991.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Stanislaus Church. Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church.
Arrangements are by the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam.

Gladys Hoyer
December 26, 1996
Miss Gladys Hoyer, 74, of Water Street, Nelliston, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after being stricken at her home.
Born Feb. 3, 1922 in Sprakers, she was the daughter of Ralph and Maude Fox Hoyer. Educated in local schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Miss Hoyer was employed at the Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. in Canajoharie in the jar tapping department, retiring in 1984 after 44 years of service.
She was a member of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Ethel Santos of Upper Lake, Calif. and Katherine "Baye" Reinman of Nedrow; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Carter Adriance officiating. Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-County Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 126, Canajoharie, N.Y. 13317.

Louise Denton
December 26, 1996
