SUZANNE BAUSCH

NORWICH - Suzanne Bausch, 60, of Reservoir Hill Road, Norwich, passed away Friday evening, Jan. 17, 2003 in the Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown.

Suzanne was born Aug. 16, 1942, in Brooklyn, the daughter of N. Jack and Susan (Ventruella) Slone. While growing up in Brooklyn, she attended and graduated from the Fort Hamilton High School. On Aug. 12, 1961, in Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Brooklyn, she married Francis (Frank) Bausch. Following her marriage, Suzanne worked as a secretary for several businesses and also worked in the lab of Brotherhood Winery. But after the birth of her daughter, Suzanne choose to stay at home to raise and care for her, and to experience the joys of motherhood.

In 1988, Frank and Suzanne bought property on Reservoir Hill Road and, in 1990, built their home, which Suzanne truly loved. A great hostess to all who entered her home, she liked cooking, especially pizza, and enjoyed the large blueberry patch on their property.

Suzanne was a devoted and faithful member of St. Paul’s Church, where she was a member of the Parish Council, worked on the church directory, was part of the group of ladies who did the altar care, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was in the formation of ministry class which, this fall, would have allowed her to be commissioned as a lay minister. She was also the liaison between the Convent and the Rectory, helping to settle in the new Sisters from India, helping them get adjusted to the Norwich community and their new surroundings. Always ready and willing to help others, Suzanne made a point of visiting the sick and the people at the extended care facility at the hospital and area nursing homes, taking them communion on a regular basis.

Having a passion for jewelry, butterflies, and photography, Suzanne would combine all of these hobbies into many special items. Each year she would do a presentation with the students at Holy Family School on the Monarch butterfly and caterpillar, and the yearly transformation of the caterpillar from cocoon to butterfly. Her artistic flair led her to the painting of fingernails with butterflies, and making many jewelry items which were displayed in the window of Treasures from the Attic in downtown Norwich, where she also worked part time. She was an avid supporter and volunteer of the Northeast Classic Car Museum.

It can easily be said that Suzanne was truly the Ambassador of Goodwill in the community which she was proud to call her home.

Suzanne is survived by her husband Francis (Frank) Bausch; her daughter and her husband, Deanna and Robert Neilan; and her grandson Bryan Neilan, all of Norwich.

A Mass of Resurrection for Suzanne will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Douglas Cunningham officiating. Interment will be at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions in Suzanne’s memory may he made to Holy Family School, 17 Prospect St., Norwich; or to St. Paul’s Church, 30 Pleasant St., Norwich.
