Jessie Shannon, 83, of Midtown Estates, St. Johnsville, passed away Thursday, May 3, at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.

She was born on March 23, 1918 in Little Falls Hospital, the daughter of the late Hugh J. and Cordelia Murphy Shannon. Jessie was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School and a lifelong St. Johnsville resident.

Miss Shannon was last employed at Lee Dye in Johnstown and at one time worked for the former Palatine Dye Co. in St. Johnsville.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, St. Johnsville.

Survivors include a niece, Delia Fear and husband William of Gloversville; two nephews, Hugh M. Shannon of Florida and Gerald Shannon and wife Sylvia of Virginia; five great-nieces; five great-nephews; and one great-great-great-niece.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Alexander J., Arthur R. and Hugh J. Shannon Jr.

Interment will take place in West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville. All memorial contributions may be made to either the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department or to the St. Johnsville Police Department. Envelopes are at the funeral home. In keeping with Jessie's wishes, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Floyd R. Weaver

Mr. Floyd R. Weaver, 85, of Lake Avenue, Gloversville, died Saturday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

He was born on June 5, 1915 in Gloversville, the son of John and E. Della White Weaver. He graduated from Gloversville High School in 1933. Mr. Weaver was well known for his musical talents. He played the mandolin with bands such as The Melody Trio, The Rainbow Revelers and The Irish Mountaineers.

He was a glove cutter, employed by E.L. Heacock Co. for 38 years, and later worked for Liccardo Gloves, Hilts-Willard Gloves, and Stevens Gloves Ltd., all of Gloversville.

He was a member of the Bleecker Street Church of Christ; an honorary member of the Berkshire Fire Company; A.S.C.A.P; a former member of the Musician's Union, and former chairman of the town of Johnstown Republican Committee.

Survivors include his wife, EIvirah A. Winchell Weaver, whom he married on Aug. 31, 1935. His surviving children are Della G. Wilder and James E. Weaver of Gloversville; his grandchildren are Daniel Wilder, Hollie Weaver and Lacey Weaver. Several nieces and nephews also survive. He was predeceased by his brothers Harvey, Chester, Charles, Rex and Roy Weaver, as well as his sisters Irene Johnson, Caroline Thompson, and Josephine Hammer.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Sandra Geer will officiate. Interment will take place at Wells Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bleecker Street Church of Christ or the Berkshire Fire Company.

William Eastman Bush

William Eastman Bush, 91, of Wild Road, Piseco, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home after a short illness.

He was born and raised in Kearney, N.J., where he resided for 62 years. He attended Newark College of Engineering and New York University.

Mr. Bush was a plastics engineer at DuPont in Kearney and at the Mechanical Institute in Boonton, N.J. He retired in 1969 and moved to Piseco.

He was a member of Piseco Volunteer Fire Department and Piseco Historical Society. He also participated in many community events.

He is survived by a daughter, Joann Bush of Lake Pleasant. His wife, Mary Todd Bush, died in 1978.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Piseco Library, the Piseco Volunteer Ambulance Corps or the Piseco Volunteer Fire Department. Arrangements are by Northville Funeral Home. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at the convenience of the family.

Marybeth Lawless

Marybeth Lawless, 44, of Amityville, died Sunday, April 22, in Long Island, after a long illness.

She was born on Jan. 2, 1957 in Queens, the daughter of Thomas and Audrey McCrann of Baldwin, N.Y.

Marybeth was a 1975 graduate of Oceanside High School in Baldwin, N.Y. and attended both Fulton-Montgomery Community College and SUNY at Cobleskill.

She worked as a cashier at the former Carl's Drug Store and as a teller and customer service representative at the main office of City National Bank & Trust Co. Eventually, Marybeth returned to her native area and taught at the Montessori Children's School in Massapequa, N.Y.

She is survived by her father, Thomas; husband, John P. Lawless; daughters, Colleen Ottalagano of Buffalo, Amanda Ottalagano and Rebecca Burgess, both of Gloversville; and son, Sean Patrick Lawless of Amityville. Also one grandchild, four sisters and three brothers.

A funeral Mass was held in Marybeth's honor on April 26 at St. Martin of Tours Roman Catholic Church, Amityville. Burial took place at St. Charles Cemetery in East Farmingdale, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made either directly to the family or to the American Cancer Society. Bernard W. Miller

Bernard W. Miller, 76, of South Market Street, Johnstown, died Monday, April 30, at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 14, 1924 in Johnstown, the son of Bernard and Margie Lanning Miller. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1943. He then served as a medic in the Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.

He worked as a cutter at Baronet Litho in Johnstown and retired in 1980. He also worked as a bartender at the Rainbow Restaurant.

He was a member of the Johnstown Eagles and the Johnstown Moose. He was active in area bowling leagues and he enjoyed fishing.

He married Pauline F. Viola on March 1, 1947 and she died in 1969.

He is survived by two sons, Michael and Daniel Miller of Johnstown; five grandchildren, Jill Ann Miller of Hollywood, Calif., Scott Miller of Dillon, Colo., and Susy Miller, Mathew and Travis Miller, all of Johnstown.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown, where a service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Jack Millard, pastor of Johnstown Reformed Church, will officiate. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Memorial contributions may be made at Johnstown Library, 38 S. Mabel Van Nostrand Sherwood

Mrs. Mabel Van Nostrand Sherwood, 75, of Mayfield, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home.

She was born on Aug. 27, 1925 in Cranberry Creek, the daughter of Levi and Goldia Rooney Sweet. Mrs. Sherwood attended Cranberry Creek and Mayfield schools. She was a lifelong area resident.

She worked in the housekeeping department at the Fulton County Infirmary for several years and retired in 1980.

She is survived by two sons, James Van Nostrand of Mayfield and Elwin Van Nostrand of Johnstown; two stepsons, Michael Sherwood of Middletown, N.Y. and Robert Sherwood of Las Vegas, Nev.; two stepdaughters, Cathy Lang of Pleasantville, N.Y. and Anne Marie Sherwood of Pennsylvania; two sisters, Eunice Wagner of Albany and Anna Sweet of Mayfield; a stepsister, Thelma Wildermuth of Northville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She married Ross J. Van Nostrand in 1943 and he died June 21, 1969. She married Arthur Sherwood on Aug. 25, 1979 and he died June 6, 1981. She was also predeceased by a brother, Nelson Sweet.

Family will be receiving friends 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. R.W. Wallace E. Thompson

Mr. Wallace E. "Buster" Thompson, 82, of Pumpkin Hollow Road, Wells, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

He was born on June 20, 1918 in Gloversville, the son of James and Hazel Gifford Thompson. He served in the Army Infantry for four years during World War II.

He was employed at the Seneca Navy Base Ammunition Depot for many years and also at the Army/Navy Depot in Scotia. He retired in 1979 as a refrigeration mechanic at the Watervliet Arsenal.

Mr. Thompson was a member of Wells United Methodist Church, Wells American Legion Post and Wells Fish and Game Club. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed producing maple syrup.

He is survived by his nephew, Gary S. Stanton of Broadalbin; his niece, Lynn Harlow of Quinton, Va.; several grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine M. Stanton of Broadalbin, in 1999.

There will be no calling hours or services. Cremation will take place at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Wells Fire Department; Wells Ambulance Corps or Wells Library. Arrangements are by Jeffords & Stewart Funeral Home, Broadalbin.
