Florence Wager Bruse

Mrs. Florence Wager Bruse, 83, of Fourth Avenue, Gloversville, died Saturday, Sept. 15, at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany, following a short illness. She was born on Jan. 8, 1918 in Utica, the daughter of Ernest and Esther Dodge Wager. She was known to many as "Nana." She was employed over the years at the lunch counter at the former Woolworth's, also at Mohawk Cabinet Co. and by Coleco Industries of Gloversville. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Wyszomirski of Broadalbin; sons, Paul Bruse, Charles Bruse, David Bruse and Michael Bruse, all of Gloversville; daughter, Diana Perna of Gloversville; sister, Gertrude Nicosia of West Melbourne, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was married on Jan. 22, 1938 to Paul H. Bruse, who died on Aug. 6, 1971. She was predeceased by brothers, Ernest Wager and Charles Wager; sister, Bertha Schulte; grandson, Jason Perna. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville where a memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Interment will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.

David M. Cirillo

David M. Cirillo, 43, of Union Mills Road, town of Broadalbin, died Saturday due to a motorcycle accident. He was born on Feb. 9, 1958 in Amsterdam, the son of Nicholas and Jeannette Cirillo of Hagaman who survive. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. Mr. Cirillo had been a carpenter with the Carpenters Union Local 370, Albany. He was of the Catholic faith. Mr. Cirillo is survived by his fiancee, Terri McClarren of Broadalbin; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Doug Delaney; two nephews, Nicholas and Shane, both of St. Marys, Ga.; his maternal grandmother, Genevieve Constantine of Amsterdam; several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. James Gulley will officiate. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the SPCA of one's choice in care of the funeral home.

Rodney B. Sawyer

Rodney B. Sawyer, 71, of Queensbury, passed away Tuesday, Sept.18, at Glens Falls Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 14, 1930 in Gloversville, the son of the late Lester and Lillian (VanBuren) Sawyer. He was the salutatorian of the Broadalbin High School Class of 1947. On July 1, 1950, he married the former Eleanor Becker in Gloversville. Mr. Sawyer retired as a corrections officer from the Great Meadow Correctional Facility in 1989. Mr. Sawyer was a member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America; the Antique Automobile Club of America, and the United Commercial Travelers. He was also a former member of the Automobilists of the Upper Hudson Valley and the Cooper's Cave Auto Enthusiasts. He enjoyed winters in St. Pete Beach, Fla.; spending time with his family; and antique cars and antique motorcycles. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Eleanor, of Queensbury; three sons, Gary S. Sawyer and his wife, Mary; Donald W. Sawyer, and his wife, Carleen; and Scott Sawyer and his wife, Kimberly, all of Queensbury; one daughter, Shelly J. Story, and her husband, David, of Glens Falls; eight grandchildren, Gary S. Sawyer Jr., James D. Story, Lindsay M. Sawyer, Nichole L. Sawyer, Trisha L. Sawyer, Karissa A. Sawyer, Ashley M. Sawyer, and Jeffrey B. L. Sawyer; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Carleton Funeral Home Inc. 68 Main St., Hudson Falls, N.Y., where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Stephen McLean, pastor of Argyle United Presbyterian Church, will officiate. The family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Cancer Center at the Pruyn Pavilion, 100 Park St., Glens Falls, NY12801. Burial will take place at Pine View Cemetery, town of Queensbury, at the convenience of the family.

Dorothy M. Francisco

Mrs. Dorothy M. Francisco, 80, of Lakeland, Fla., died Sept. 17 at Good Shepherd Hospice Home, Auburndale, Fla., after complications from cancer. She was born on June 29, 1921 in Amsterdam and previously lived in Winter Haven, Fla. She was a registered nurse. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lakeland. Survivors include her husband, Arnold Francisco of Lakeland; daughters, Joan D. Henderson of Hudson Falls and Margaret L. Condello of Greensboro, N.C.; and grandchildren, Michael Noel and Kathryn Condello. Graveside services will be held in Fultonville. Contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823. Arrangements are by Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven.

Martha E. King

Martha E. King, 87, of Gloversville, died Wednesday morning at her home. Mrs. King was born on April 4, 1913 in Coaldale, Pa., the daughter of Albert and Emma Lawton Willing. She was a graduate of Coaldale High School and later received her nursing degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa. She had been a resident of Gloversville since 1947. Mrs. King was in the Army during WWII, serving as an Army nurse in the South Pacific at Okinawa. She was later stationed at the Valley Forge General Hospital in Phoenixville, Pa., where she was discharged as a captain, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Mrs. King was employed by the Nathan Littauer Hospital of Gloversville for 34 years as a registered nurse. She retired in 1981 as director of nursing of Nathan Littauer Hospital. She was a member of the New York State and Pennsylvania Nurses Association. She was a retired member of the Nathan Littauer Hospital Auxiliary, the Holland Meadows Golf Club and the Jefferson Hospital Alumni. She was a retired board member of the Getman Home of Gloversville. She is survived by her husband, John C. King, whom she married on Dec. 27, 1947. She was predeceased by one sister, Florence Willing. The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dr. Alan C. Rhodes, pastor of North Main Street United Methodist Church, Gloversville will officiate. Interment will take place in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or Nathan Littauer Hospital Building Fund or charity of one's choice.

John L. Schriner

Mr. John L. Schriner, 54, of Fourth Avenue Extension, Tribes Hill, died suddenly Wednesday at home. He was born on March 2, 1947 in Oakland, Calif., the son of Earl and Beatrice Potter Schriner. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. During the Vietnam War, Mr. Schriner served in the Army. Mr. Schriner worked as a truck driver most of his life, working the past 18 years for School House Transport, Johnstown. He was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 942, Fonda. Survivors include a son, Shaun L. Schriner of Fonda; two daughters, Shannon Gretsuk of Syracuse and Robin A. Schriner of Fonda; two sisters, Edna Bowler of Tribes Hill and Geraldine Ryan of Massena; eight grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at Newport Cemetery, Newport, N.Y. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the VFW Post 942, Fonda, in care of the funeral home.

Roger L. Seward

Roger L. Seward, 71, of South Second Avenue, Broadalbin, died Wednesday afternoon at Saratoga Hospital. He was born on Jan. 14, 1930 in Broadalbin, a son of Alan and Pauline DeNault Seward. He was a 1947 graduate of the former Broadalbin High School. Mr. Seward was a lifelong resident of Broadalbin. He began an apprenticeship with General Electric Co., Schenectady in 1948 and was employed there for 46 years as a large turbine machinist and retired in January 1994. Mr. Seward also held a private pilot's license. After retiring, he enjoyed golfing and woodworking. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Broadalbin. Mr. Seward was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and was an active bowler in several leagues. He was also a member of the Broadalbin and Fulton County Democratic Clubs. He is survived by his wife, the former Retha M. Standley, whom he married on Jan. 12, 1957; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Gary Easton of Esperance; two sisters, Marian Fuelleman of Broadalbin and Jacqueline Sherman of Galway; three grandchildren, John Markert of Virginia Beach, Va., and Glenn Easton and Jessica Easton, both of Esperance; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A calling hour will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 54 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Paul Moyer will officiate. Interment will take place at Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Expressions of sympathy may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Kennyetto Fire Company or Broadalbin Volunteer Ambulance Corps, all in care of the funeral home. Arrangements are by Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home, 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin.

Donald Wheaton

Donald Wheaton, 85, of Petoff Gardens, died Wednesday evening at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home following a short illness. He was born on Feb. 19, 1916 in Gloversville, the son of Raymond and Bridget Wheaton. He was a lifelong area resident. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European, African and Middle Eastern Campaigns. He was employed as a mechanic for Tryon Oil Co. and retired in 1980. He is survived by one son, Mark Wheaton of Pattersonville; one grandchild; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. His wife, Gladys May Hickok, died on April 12, 1993. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Edinburg Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Red Cross for American relief effort in care of the funeral home.
