Margaret A. Anderson

Margaret "Peggy" A. (Leip) Anderson, 66, of 50 W. Main St., Little Falls, and more recently a resident of Van Allen's Nursing Home, Little Falls, passed away Sept. 10 at that facility.
She was born on Jan. 18, 1935 in Fort Plain to the late Charles Leip and Nellie Dutton Carter, and was educated in St. Johnsville schools. She lived in St. Johnsville throughout her childhood until moving to Little Falls several years ago. She was married to Paul J. Grose at one time, who preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1967. She then married Gerald Anderson on March 13, 1973. She was last employed with Allegro Shoe Factory for several years until her retirement, and she was of the Catholic faith.
She leaves her husband, Gerald Anderson of Little Falls; two sons, John P. Grose of Stratford and Jamie Anderson of Little Falls; three sisters, Barbara Metott of Little Falls, Beverly Seward of California and Patricia Swenson of Utah; a grandchild, Jacob J. Grose. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunt, uncles, in laws and cousins. She was predeceased by a brother, Sonny Leip.
Friends and relatives are invited from 5 to 7 p.m. today for visitation at the Enea Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, where the family will be present. Peggy's funeral will commence at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, at Enea Funeral Home chapel, where a prayer will be offered. Interment will follow in Church Street Cemetery, Little Falls. Remembrances in honor of Peggy may be made to the Little Falls Hospital Developmental Fund and envelopes maybe obtained at the funeral parlor for those considering.

Philip N. Belden

Phillip N. Belden, 67, of Gloversville, died Monday evening after being stricken at his home.
He was born on Feb. 25, 1934 in Gloversville, the son of Bertrand and Helen VanAlstyne Belden. He attended Broadalbin schools and was a lifelong area resident.
He was employed for seven years at Electric Boat Co., Groton, Conn. He was employed for 35 years by General Electric Co. as an engineer and retired in 1994.
He was an active member of Pine Tree Rifle Club.
Survivors include his mother, Helen VanAlstyne Steenburgh of Gloversville; his wife, the former Norma Hemstreet, whom he married on July 17, 1954; five sons, Phillip N. Belden Jr., Terry Belden, Burt Belden, Sean Belden, all of Gloversville, and Kirk Belden of San Diego, Calif.; one daughter, Denice Belden of Gloversville; one brother, Douglas Steenburgh of Johnstown; one sister, Roberta Dumblewski of Amsterdam; eight grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
There will be no prior visitation from the funeral home. Interment will take place at Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Pine Tree Rifle Club or American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Janis M. Dimick

Janis M. Dimick, of Ghent, N.Y., died Sept. 1 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson
She was born on April 24, 1922 in Mayfield, the daughter of the late Henry and Norma Olson Wemple. She was educated in Mayfield and at the John Hopkins School of Nursing, where she received her degree as a registered nurse. She graduated from the University of New York and the Nathan Littauer School of Nursing in September 1943. She served in the Navy Nurses Corps during World War II.
She had been employed at Pascack Valley Hospital, Westwood, N.J. in addition to being a homemaker.
She was the mother of Bonnie Dimick of Chatham, N.Y.; Greg Dimick of Ghent, Brad Dimick of Island Lake, Ill. and Cathy Ludwig of Hobart, Ind.; sister of Robert Wemple of Hurley, N.Y., Katherine Montanye and Elwood Wemple, both of Mayfield. She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Dimick, who died on Nov. 19, 2000.
Funeral services were held Sept. 5 at French, Gifford & Preiter Funeral Home, Chatham. The Rev. Gary P. Gelfenbien, pastor of St. James Roman Catholic Church, officiated. Interment took place at Ghent Union Cemetery.

Milton Horne Sr.

Milton Horne Sr., 52, of Albany, died suddenly Wednesday, Sept. 5.
He was a star athlete on the varsity basketball team at New Mexico University. He earned his degree in physical education.
He taught for 27 years in the Albany School District. Along with teaching, he was involved in restoring properties throughout Arbor Hill. He built the Robin Day Care Center, the "first" charter school, helped in the construction of the Public Safety Building, American Little League concession stand and batting cage.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Deven Foster Horne; sons, Marvin and Mason Horne; daughter, Monya Wells of Maryland and Milton Horne Jr. of Albany.

Dorothy B. Hough

Dorothy B. Hough, 98, a former Gloversville resident, died Sept. 7, at Melbourne, Fla. Nursing Home. She was born on Nov. 4, 1902 in Bristol, N.Y. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, N.Y. and graduated from the former Geneseo Teaching School. She lived in Barefoot Bay, Fla. before her move to the nursing home.
She was employed as an elementary teacher and taught in area district schools. She last was employed at Park Terrace School, Gloversville.
Survivors include a nephew, Joseph E. Hough of Sacandaga Park; a niece and her husband, Dorothy H. and Gary Johnson of Barefoot Bay; a brother-in-law, William Voit of Barefoot Bay; a sister-in-law, Laura Bliss of Canandaigua, N.Y.; other nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Florence Tubbs Bliss; and husband, Harry Hough, who died in May 1981.
Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. A service will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Roy W. Painter Jr.

Roy W. Painter Jr., 85, of South Shore Road, Edinburg, died Sunday at Albany Medical Center following an automobile accident in the town of Amsterdam.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1915 in Gloversville, a son of Roy and Edith Chase Painter. He was a graduate of Gloversville High School. He attended Cornell University and later the University of Alabama. Mr. Painter had been a lifelong area resident and lived in Edinburg for the past 30 years.
He worked with his father in the family construction business and later became a partner with Robert Lynch, building homes in the northern section of Gloversville. He then was self-employed for nearly 50 years before forming a partnership with his son, Jack.
Survivors include a son, John C. Painter of Gloversville; a daughter, Jennie E. Painter of Kingston, Ontario, Canada; a stepson, Jack Michell of Peoria, Ariz.; three sisters, Audrey Farnum of Sebastian, Fla., Muriel "Mickey" Lynch of Hollister, Fla. and Kathleen Crocetta of Naples, Fla.; six grandchildren; a great-grandson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Painter was married to the former Doris Wright in 1941 and she died in 1973. He later married Ina Michell Painter on Feb. 23, 1976 and she died April 3, 1999. He was also predeceased by a stepdaughter, Thelma Steele, who died Sept. 30, 2000.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Dr. Patricia A. Bush will officiate. Burial will take place at Broadalbin Union Rural Cemetery (Union Mills). Expressions of sympathy may be made to American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Madelyn Martin Vickery

Madelyn Martin Vickery, 89, of Gloversville, died Wednesday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1912 in Gloversville, the daughter of Harry and Rose Hale Martin. She graduated from the Gloversville High School Class of 1929 and later graduated from the Gloversville Business School Class of 1930.
Mrs. Vickery was employed by the Henry Noyes Fish Market of Bleecker Street, Gloversville, as a cashier for several years and later was employed by Robison & Smith Inc. of Gloversville for over 25 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Ida McGinnis Club and the First Baptist Church, both of Gloversville.
She is survived by one stepson, Donald Vickery of Gloversville; four grandchildren; John D. Callahan and Matthew J. Vickery, both of Gloversville, Joan C. Boyce of Guilderland, and David G. Vickery of Johnstown; several great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews
She was predeceased by her husband, Percy, who died in 1975; a stepdaughter, Doris V. Callahan, who died in October 1990; and one brother, Volney Martin.
The family will be receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Dr. George McBurney Gray will officiate. Interment will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the charity of one's choice.
