Matthew J. Brown

Matthew J. Brown, 32, of Route 30, Hope, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken.

He was born on April 24, 1969 in Bellflower, Calif., the son of James T. and Suzanne McElroy Brown Sr. He graduated from Wells Central School and graduated from Fulton-Montgomery Community College with a fine arts degree.

He was a self-employed contractor. He was an avid hiker and NASCAR fan.

Survivors include his father, James T. Brown Sr. of Brooksville, Fla.; his mother, Suzanne McElroy of Wells; his wife, Georgette Brown at home; his daughter, Madeleine at home; two brothers, James T. Brown Jr. of Gloversville and Thomas V. Brown of Wells; one sister, Lori Brown Gosson of Wells; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Wells. Burial will take place at St. Ann's Cemetery, Wells. Memorials may be made to City National Bank, Northville, in Matthew's memory. Stella Cardella

Miss Stella Cardella, 83, of Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville, where she had resided since 1972, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

She was born on Dec. 15, 1917 in Brooklyn, the daughter of Stefano and Angela La Porta Cardella.

She is survived by two nieces, Karen Tyler of Johnstown and Rosemarie Squillace of Phoenix, Ariz.; one nephew, Peter Kakareka of Howes Caverns.

Burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Arrangements are by Amico Funeral Home, Gloversville. Funeral services will be private.

Emmett Duesler

Mr. Emmett Duesler, 80, formerly of Rockwood, died Monday at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility, Gloversville after a long illness.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1921 in Rockwood, the son of Nellis and Jesse Chatterton Duesler.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He was employed as a glove cutter at the former Superb Glove Co. in Johnstown until his retirement in 1983.

Mr. Duesler is survived by one sister, Agnes Stahl of Johnstown. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. The Rev. R.W. Williams will officiate. Burial will take place at Rockwood Cemetery.

Jeanne E. Brownell

Jeanne E. Brownell, 54, of Iroquois Trail, Tribes Hill, died Wednesday morning at Montgomery Meadows, Amsterdam, after a short illness.

She was born on May 17, 1946 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Cyrus Wayne and Betty Hanson Brownell. She was a lifelong Tribes Hill resident. She graduated in 1965 from Fonda-Fultonville High School and later attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

Miss Brownell first was employed by the Montgomery County Historical and Archives Department and later continued working for the Department of Social Services of Montgomery County until her recent illness.

She was a member of the Art-Well Chapter 208, Order of the Eastern Star, and Order of the Amaranth, Amsterdam, and was a member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church and also served at one time as a Sunday school teacher.

She was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed quiz shows and trivia and served as a volunteer in writing the church bulletin.

She is survived by her father, Cyrus Wayne Brownell of Tribes Hill; two brothers, Wayne M. Brownell and Mark A. Brownell, both of Tribes Hill; a sister, Carol B. Soucy of Manchester, N.H.; uncles; aunts; three nieces; four nephews; two great-nieces, and cousins.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where the Art-Well Chapter 208 OES will conduct a service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, Mohawk Drive. The Rev. Barbara Floryshak will officiate. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church or to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital in Springfield, Mass., care of the funeral home.

Lawrence C. Mereness

Mr. Lawrence C. Mereness, 59, of Route 80, Fort Plain, died Wednesday, May 2, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1941 in Fort Plain, the son of Charles Lowell and Eva Miller Mereness. Mr. Mereness was a graduate of Fort Plain High School Class of 1962. He previously lived in Mission Hills, Calif. and had been a resident of Fort Plain since 1998.

Mr. Mereness was a former truck driver for Byrd Transportation of Albany. Prior to that he was a truck driver in Los Angeles, Calif. for Hostess Bakery.

He was of the Lutheran faith. He was a former member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1612 in California.

On Nov. 21, 1965 he married Sheila A. Thomas Mereness in Culver City, Calif.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila A. Mereness of Fort Plain; one daughter, Audra L. Mereness of Fort Plain; one brother, DeWayne G. Mereness of Fort Plain; one sister, Jeanette E. Shelton of Santee, Calif.; one grandson, Dustin Charles Mereness of Fort Plain; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents.

Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, where funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, May 5. The Rev. Kenneth Dingman will officiate. Burial will take place at Fort Plain Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 126, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

Gerald Daniels Sr.

Gerald Daniels Sr., 52, of Mayfield, N.Y., died Sunday after being stricken at his home.

He was born on Aug. 31, 1949 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Anson and Joan Burke Daniels. He attended schools in Brooklyn and later FMCC. He lived in the Mayfield area for the past 27 years.

He was an Army veteran and served in the Vietnam War.

He was employed at Coleco Industries in Mayfield for many years.

Surviving include his wife, Crystal Daniels of Mayfield; two sons, Gerald Daniels Jr. of Gloversville and Jason Daniels of Mayfield; one daughter, Audrey Daniels of Mayfield; one brother, Stephen Daniels of Lindenhurst, Long Island; one sister, Elaine Taft of New Port Richey, Fla.; two grandchildren, Isaac Daniels and James Walker Jr.; nieces and nephews.

The family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Saratoga National Cemetery.

Timothy Lee Reid

Timothy Lee Reid, 59, of Ramona, Calif., died Nov. 24, at his home after being stricken.

He was born on April 11, 1942 in Gloversville, the son of Leroy and Arlene Wager Reid. He was a college graduate and resided in San Francisco for 20 years before he moved to Ramona.

He was the owner and president of a medical management firm of Miami, Fla. for over 25 years.

He dedicated most of his life for volunteer charitable organizations.

Surviving are his mother, Arlene Borrero of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a special friend of 37 years, Robert Collet Tricaro; one daughter, Tammy Skinner of Caroga Lake; two brothers, Thomas Reid of California and Leroy Reid of Caroga Lake; two sisters, Arlene and Sherry Reid of Fort Pierce; one grandson, Mark A. Skeete; 10 nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Lynn Reid Dinger.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville. The Rev. Wayne Jones, pastor of Fremont Street United Methodist Church, will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society. Interment will take place at a later time at the convenience of the family.
