Inger Margaret Smith

Inger Margaret Smith, 92, of Leona Valley, Calif., died Sunday, May 20, at Antelope Valley Health Care Facility, Lancaster, Calif., after a long illness. Mrs. Smith was born on June 24, 1908 in Dickson, Alberta, Canada, the daughter of Johannes and Anna Jensen. She emigrated with her mother and sister to Audubon, Iowa following her father's death in 1909. She was a graduate of Audubon High School. She worked at Mattel Toys in Hawthorne, Calif. until her retirement. She is survived by two sisters, Marie Winthers and Elsie Hansen, both of Audubon, Iowa; one son, Donald P. Smith Jr. of Johnstown; two grandsons, Robert Smith of Escondido, Calif. and Ryan Smith of Lancaster, Calif.; one granddaughter, Jennifer Smith of Austin, Texas; and one great-granddaughter, Aubri Smith. She was married to Donald P. Smith in 1940 in Colorado Springs, Colo. He died in 1972. Interment took place May 23 at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

Kathryn Elizabeth Fagan, 31, of Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard, Mass., died Tuesday, May 29, at home after being stricken. She was born on May 3, 1970 in Amsterdam, the daughter of Fred and Margaret Michaelson Fagan. She graduated from Broadalbin-Perth High School in 1988; graduated from Paul Smith's College in Saranac, N.Y. in 1990 and SUNY at Plattsburgh in 1993 with a degree in hotel management. She worked at Harborside Resort & Harbor View Restaurant as a banquet manager. She then worked for Inside-Out Landscaping all of Martha's Vineyard. She was of the Catholic faith. She was a member of the Pink Squid Yacht Club of Martha's Vineyard. Survivors include her parents, Fred and Margaret Michaelson Fagan of Broadalbin; three brothers, Greg Fagan and Michael Fagan, both of Perth, and Andrew Fagan of Waverly, N.Y.; four sisters, Ann Hogan of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Tricia and Edward Tauss of Midlothian, Va., Andrea Boles of Broadalbin, Maureen and Michael Davio of Fairport, N.Y.; her companion, Sam Kistler of Martha's Vineyard; eight nephews, Matthew, Bryan, Jason, Jamie, Jared, David, Ryan and Michael; seven nieces, Sarah, Kelsey, Rachael, Dawn, Erin, Emily and Kyley; aunts and uncles, Sr. Ann Michaelson of Albany, Hank and Joan Michaelson of Naples, Fla., James and Stephanie Michaelson of Canton, and John and Donna Fagan of Johnstown; several cousins; great-uncle, Charles Drouse; great-aunts, Ruth Cerrone and V. Roberta Michaelson; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Marian Fagan of Johnstown. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Fagan Poleto in 1991. Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Melcher St., Johnstown. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Church, Johnstown. The Rev. James Fitzmaurice, pastor, will be celebrant. Mrs. Victoria M. Kobuskie, 82, formerly of Gloversville, died Tuesday at Dover General Hospital Nursing Facility, Dover, N.J., following a long illness. She was born on Nov. 11, 1918 in Gloversville, the daughter of the late Charles and Jennie Evangelista Catanzaro. She was a 1937 graduate of Gloversville High School. She was a homemaker. She was a former member of Sacred Heart Church, Gloversville. The family lived in Gloversville until 1984, when they moved to Randolph, N.J. for retirement. Survivors include her husband, Donald J. Kobuskie of Randolph, N.J., whom she married on May 19, 1946; two daughters, Lynda J. (Kobuskie) Liebermann of Succasunna, N.J. and Jeanne M. (Kobuskie) Ragonesi of Morris Plains, N.J.; one son, John C. Kobuskie of Vestal, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters, Leah Peck, Mary Cristiano and Elisa Catanzaro; and one brother, Philip Catanzaro. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Kobuskie-Konik Funeral Home, 147 Bleecker St., Gloversville. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. At 11 a.m. a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church. The Rev. David Tressic, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Elizabeth Mortimer

Mrs. Elizabeth Mortimer, 95, formerly of Mayfield, died Wednesday at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since February 2000. She was born on Oct. 14, 1905 in Mayfield, the daughter of Gates and Lizzie Morrison Van Buren. Mrs. Mortimer was a graduate of Broadalbin Training Class. She taught for 20 years, mostly at Mayfield Elementary School, where she was a first grade teacher. She also taught at Cranberry Creek School. She was a member of Fulton County Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Cramer and Maxine McClary, both of Northville; one sister, Jean Van Buren of Vero Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Her husband, Homer Mortimer, whom she married on Nov. 12, 1932, died in 1976. She was also predeceased by one brother, Barnett Van Buren; and one sister, Margaret Muddle. A calling hour will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Mayfield Cemetery.

Evelyn Ann Goot Johnson

Evelyn Ann Goot Johnson of Lydius Street, Guilderland, died suddenly Tuesday, May 15, 2001, while on vacation in Spain. She was born in Johnstown. She had resided in Guilderland for over 35 years. She is the daughter of Matthew and Mary Stanko Goot of Johnstown. Evelyn was a graduate of Johnstown High School in 1961 and Albany Business School in 1963. After college, she worked for the New York State Department of Taxation & Finance and then founded Guilderland Tax Service, which she worked at for over 30 years, forming many lasting professional relationships. She was a communicant of St. Madeleine Sophie Church and was involved in many church activities. She was a former religious education teacher, Eucharistic minister as well as the former chair of the finance committee. Evelyn was previously active in the Tennis League at the Schenectady Racquet Club and was also a member of a biweekly bridge club. Survivors in addition to her parents include three sons, Edward J. Johnson Jr. of Clifton Park, Eric J. and his wife, Rachel Bender-Johnson of Slingerlands, and David M. Johnson of Manassas, Va. She is the sister of Matthew and his wife, Debbie, Goot of Rota, Spain. She was the cherõshed grandmother of Elizabeth, Elayna and Aaron Johnson. In addition, she leaves behind several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many special friends and business associates. Evelyn Johnson is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Deanne Johnson of Mariaville. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 N. Barry L. Kretser

Barry L. Kretser, 49, of 9 E. Main St., St. Johnsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, at Bassett Health Care in Cooperstown. Survivors include his sister, Kim DeLong and husband, Kevin of Hazelton, Pa.; three nephews, Tab, Jarrod and Eric DeLong of Hazelton; and special friends, Pat Clark of St. Johnsville, Sharon and John Musolino of Connecticut; two aunts and many cousins. The family will be receiving friends and relatives from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In keeping with Barry's wishes, cremation will take place under the direction of the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Johnsville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Johnsville Area Volunteer Ambulance Corps or to the St. Johnsville Volunteer Fire Department. Harold B. Christman

Mr. Harold B. Christman, 82, of Old Peck Hill Road, Gloversville, died Tuesday, May 22, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness. He was born on May 24, 1918 in Ephratah, the son of Emory and Eula Brown Christman. Mr. Christman was a graduate of Johnstown High School. He served in the Army during World War ll; he attained the rank of sergeant with Company A 802nd Tank Destroyer Unit. Mr. Christman was employed as a glove cutter with several glove companies and later was a self-employed carpenter until his retirement. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Johnstown and Gloversville and served as past commander of the Royal Mountain Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7097. Survivors include his wife, Carrie L. Stock Christman, whom he married on Oct. 31, 1942; three sons Greyford and Ronald Christman both of Gloversville, and William Christman of Mayfield; two daughters, Eileen Wrightsman and Linda Townsend, both of Gloversville; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson, and cousins Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Richard Sears will officiate. Burial will take place in Ferndale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
