Elton M. Osborne

Mr. Elton M. Osborne, 80, of Bates Road, Tribes Hill, died Thursday, June 28, at home after a long illness. He was born on April 6, 1921 in Gloversville. The son of Walter O. and Zetta Reynolds Osborne. Mr. Osborne was a 1941 graduate of Johnstown High School. Mr. Osborne was employed as a truck driver for Kasson & Keller of Fonda, and for Tryon Transportation of Johnstown until his retirement. He was a member of the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church, where he served as elder. Survivors include his wife, Betty Bates Osborne, whom he married on Sept. 6, 1942; four daughters, Bonita "Bonnie" Bartholomew of Jackson, N.J., Judith Hayes of Broadalbin, Beth Osborne of Fonda and Beverly Osborne of Schenectady; two sons, Paul Osborne of Gloversville and Douglas Osborne of Fonda; one brother, Roy Osborne of Denton, Texas; three sisters, Irene King of Walforth, Texas, Wilda Brothers of Schenectady, and Ernestine Wait of Johnstown; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one son, David Osborne in 1944. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home Inc., 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Friends and family are invited to attend funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dan Wheeler, and the Rev. Donna Elia will officiate. Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave. Amsterdam, N.Y. 12010, or to the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church.

Ruth Katherine Behrman Potter

Ruth Katherine Behrman Potter, 81, of 1061 Willow Run Road, Greensboro, Ga., died Tuesday, May 15, at Morgan Memorial Hospital. She was born on Nov. 28, 1919 in New York City, the daughter of William E. and Mary S. Hults Behrman. She was a graduate of Hicksville High School and had been at the Willow Run address the last year. She was employed as a secretary for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and ran Potter's Lodge for many years with her husband. She was of the Lutheran faith. She is survived by daughters, Jane Potter Fleming and husband, Kip of Greensboro, Ga. and Cynthia Walsh of Vestal, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Brian John Fleming, Meghan Walsh and Shannon Walsh. She was predeceased by her husband, John Pellow Potter. A memorial service was held Saturday, May 19, at Willow Run Retirement Home, Greensboro. Cliff Graham, lay speaker, officiated.

Blanche Wadsworth

Mrs. Blanche Wadsworth, 86, of West Stoney Creek, Benson, died Thursday at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility in Gloversville after a long illness. She was born on Dec. 12, 1914 in Thurman, the daughter of Frank and Gertrude Hitchcock Wescott. Mrs. Wadsworth lived in Benson since 1933. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Wadsworth was a Protestant. She was a former member of the 55 Plus Senior Citizens of Northville. Her husband, Charles Wadsworth, whom she married on May 22, 1933, died in 1995. Survivors include four sons, Edward Wadsworth of Crown Point, N.Y., Daniel Wadsworth of Voorheesville, N.Y., Richard Wadsworth of Galway and Ronald Wadsworth of Fairless Hills, Pa.; three daughters, Evelyn Brown of Gloversville, Dorothy Parker of Granville, N.Y. and Beverly Blowers of Benson; a brother, Frank Wescott of Candon, S.C.; a sister, Grace Allen of North Creek, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Upper Benson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to charity.

William H. VanVoast

Mr. William H. VanVoast, 94, formerly of Caroga Lake, passed away Saturday morning at Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam, where he had resided since 1994. He was born on May 28, 1906 in Johnstown, the son of Herbert and Luella Annibal VanVoast Sr. He graduated from Johnstown High School and Syracuse University. During World War II he served with the Home Guard. Mr. VanVoast joined his father and was later joined by his brothers Robert and Herbert VanVoast Jr. in the operation of Tryon Oil Co. of Johnstown. He served as president of the company from 1948 until his retirement in 1969. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnstown; former member and past president of the Johnstown Rotary Club; member and past master of St. Patrick's Lodge 4, Free and Accepted Masons; member of the Burroughs Nature Study Club; former member of the board of directors of the former Albany Savings Bank; member of the former Colonial Club of Johnstown. From 1949 to 1968 Mr. VanVoast served on the board of directors of the Johnstown Hotel Inc. and was president from 1959 to 1968. He was a member and past vice president of the National Oil Jobbers Council Inc. and from 1963 to 1965 served as president of the Empire State Petroleum Association Fuel Merchants. Mr. VanVoast was united in marriage to the former Margaret Northrup on March 28, 1932. She passed away on Nov. 22, 1993. He is survived by one daughter, Nancy Taylor of Ocala, Fla.; one son, William N. VanVoast of Johnstown; one brother, Herbert VanVoast Jr. of Johnstown; two grandsons; two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins. There will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place at Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley, N.Y. Arrangements are by Ehle Funeral Home, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, Amsterdam.

Carmella M. Maurice

Carmella M. Maurice, 71, of Kingsboro Avenue, Gloversville, died Sunday at Nathan Littauer Hospital. She was born on Aug. 20, 1929 in Gloversville, the daughter of John and Antonitta Metoca Muscato. She attended Gloversville High School. She was employed at the former J.M. Rubin Glove Co., Gloversville for several years. Survivors include her husband, William L. Maurice, whom she married on Nov. 12, 1949 at the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Gloversville; one brother, Rufus Muzzie Muscato of Amsterdam; two sisters, Patricia Gordon of Johnstown and Josphine Wheaton of Gloversville; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Theresa Mole and Rose Simek; and four brothers, Pat, Joseph, John and Tommie Muscato. Family will be receiving friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hollenbeck Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Gloversville. The Rev. Donald Czelusniak, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made at Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N. Main St., Gloversville.

Naomi C. Clark
April 29, 2001

Naomi C. Clark, 88, of Lansing Street, Hagaman, died Friday at Montgomery Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility in Amsterdam, where she had been a patient for several weeks. Born in Amsterdam on Nov. 3, 1912, she was the daughter of Emmett and Phillipa Nurnberg Casler. She was a lifelong Amsterdam area resident and was a 1930 graduate of the Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Mrs. Clark was employed for several years by Niagara Mohawk in Amsterdam as a telephone operator. She was also a tax collector for the village of Hagaman and a census taker. She was a member of the Calvary Reformed Church in Hagaman. Mrs. Clark also chaired and co-chaired for the class of 1930 reunion committee for each event. She married Claude H. Clark on Oct. 9, 1937. He died on Nov. 19, 1982. Survivors include two sons: David L. Clark of Spring Lake, Mich., and Charles F. Clark of Schenectady; two daughters, Doris Ann Clark and Claudia B. Pearson, both of Hagaman; 10 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Harold Casler. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam. The interment will be in Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery. A calling hour will precede the funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Calvary Reformed Church of Hagaman in care of the funeral home.

Rose Mary Leithiser
April 29, 2001

Rose Mary Leithiser, 72, of Browns Point Road, Lake Pleasant, died April 25, 2001, at the Wuesthoff Progress Care Center in Viera, Fla. Born Sept. 8, 1928, in Perry Point, Md., she was the daughter of William and Rose Gibson Way. She was a graduate of Havre De Grace High School and the MD General Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Leithiser was a homemaker and a member of Hamilton County Twiggs. On Sept. 2, 1950, she married Richard E. Leithiser. Besides her husband, surviving are three sons, Dr. Richard E. Leithiser of Little Rock, Ark., William D. and Charles B. Leithiser of Old Town, Maine; one daughter, Nancy McCormack of Rising Sun, Md.; and five grandchildren, Bryan, Gretchen, Colleen, Jake and Alex. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Grace Methodist Church, Speculator. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., Northville. Burial will be in Fishmountain Cemetery, Lake Pleasant. Memorials may be made to Twiggs of Hamilton County or to the Community Cultural and Media Center, Lake Pleasant.
