Joseph Tamarazio, 88, formerly of Ten Eyck Avenue, Schenectady, died Tuesday at Baptist Retirement Center in Scotia, after a short illness.

Mr. Tamarazio was born in Italy and came to Schenectady in 1918.

He was a tailor for 23 years, working for the former Lafayette Men's Clothing Store. He retired in 1973.

Previously, Mr. Tamarazio was a furrier for the former Henry's Furriers.

He was a communicant of the St. Madeleine Sophie Roman Catholic Church.

Mr. Tamarazio is survived by his wife, Rose Schrilla Tamarazio; a son, Michael Tamarazio of Rotterdam; two daughters, Frances Wells of Northville and Rose Marie Jorolemon of Buffalo; a sister, Rose Santo Pietro of Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carmen Road.

Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

There are no calling hours.

Lucile Shults
September 15, 1996

Mrs. Lucile Coleman Shults, 99, of Wake Robin Drive, Shelburne, Vt.., died Sunday at the Wake Robin Nursing Home in Shelburne, after a brief illness.

Born in Stone Arabia, Town of Palatine, on June 8, 1897, she was the daughter of Peter Coleman and Orvetta Cook.

She graduated from the former Palatine Bridge School.

Mrs. Shults was a homemaker.

She had resided in Shelburne since April 1994 and was a lifelong Palatine Bridge resident.

She was a member of the former Stone Arabia Reformed Church.

Mrs. Shults married Raymond J. Shults on Dec. 17, 1915 in Ilion, N.Y. He died on Nov. 16, 1990.

Survivors include one daughter, Doris L. Crangle of Shelburne, Vermont; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by a son, Jack Shults, in May of 1988.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 11 :30 a.m. at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie.

The Rev. Wayne Cole will officiate.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda.

There will be no calling hours.

Elizabeth Snyder
September 18, 1996

ST. JOHNSVILLE - Elizabeth A. Snyder, 77, of 21 Center St., St. Johnsville, died Wednesday at Little Falls Hospital.

Born Jan. 7, 1919, in the Town of Palatine, she was the daughter of Benjamin J. and Ressie Saltsman Nellis. Mrs. Snyder was educated in Fort Plain schools and moved to the St. Johnsville area in 1960.

For several years she was employed at Luxuray Mills in Fort Plain.

Mrs. Snyder was a member of St. John's Reformed Church in St. Johnsville, and also was a member of Lasselsville and St. Johnsville Senior Citizens.

She married Sylvester "Bud" Snyder on Sept. 12, 1942. He died Dec. 22, 1991.

Survivors include two sons, Wayne Snyder of St. Johnsville and Paul Snyder of Penfield; a daughter, Nancy Quackenbush of St. Johnsville; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Austin Nellis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Smith-Woody and Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with the Rev. Russell Camp, pastor of St. John's Reformed Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Nina Quinn-Tuttle
September 19, 1996

Mrs. Nina Quinn-Tuttle, 76, of Lincoln Street, Gloversville, died Thursday at St. Clare's Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness.

Born in Johnstown, Mrs. Quinn-Tuttle lived in Gloversville most of her life.

She was a glovemaker for various glove companies, retiring from the Royale Glove Co. in 1979.

Survivors include her husband, George Tuttle; a son, Peter Quinn of Scotia; a daughter, Tammy Adelman of Syracuse; three sisters, Evelyn Seelow, Virginia Squires, and Ida Pantelone, all of Gloversville; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery in Johnstown.

Services will be private.

There will be no calling hours.

Eugene Hammer
September 19, 1996

Eugene R. Hammer, 67, of Algonquin Drive, Wells, died Thursday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, after being stricken at home.

Born in Gloversville, Mr. Hammer was a lifelong area resident.

He worked for the state Department of Environmental Conservation, where at one time, he served as caretaker and assistant caretaker.

Mr. Hammer was a U.S. Navy veteran.

He attended Wells Methodist Church.

He married Eleanor Weaver Hammer on May 31, 1952.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Terry and Paul Hammer, both of Wells; two daughters, Bonnie Barton and Gale Grace, both of Wells; two brothers, Jack Hammer of Broadalbin and Wayne "Bob" Hammer of Indian Lake; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Northville Funeral Home, 401 Bridge St., Northville.

Burial will be in Algonquin Cemetery

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Harry Chriss
Sept. 20, 1996

Harry Akin Chriss, 76, of Haskell Street, Hagaman, died Friday at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

He was born Dec. 15, 1919, in Amsterdam, the son of Harry and Barberry Akin Chriss. He lived in Hagaman most of his life.

Mr. Chriss was an IBM and Royal certified typewriter repairman, having worked at McKibbon Office Machines in Gloversville, and later at General Electric in Schenectady, where he retired about 10 years ago.

He married the former Kathryn Bakuzonis Sept. 3, 1944.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Ronald Chriss of Woodbury, Conn., and H. Roger Chriss of Amsterdam; three daughters, Barbarann Jock of Hagaman, Audrey J. Kirchofer of Amsterdam and Lynn M. Chriss of Albany; two brothers, Robert and Charles Chriss, both of Amsterdam; a sister, Wilhelmina Grandy of Johnstown; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.

Burial will be in Hagaman Cemetery.

Calling hours are 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruby Tyree
Sept. 20, 1996

Ruby E. Tyree, 69, of 2394 State Highway 30A, Johnstown, died Friday afternoon at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany.

She was born April 21, 1927, in Lexington, Ky., the daughter of Perry and Wilma Cropper White. She was a graduate of the Henry Clay High School in Lexington and moved to Amsterdam in 1960 and later to Johnstown in 1978, where she since lived.

She was a homemaker and member of the Tribes Hill United Presbyterian Church.

She was predeceased by a son, David Tyree, who died July 27; and a daughter, Claudia Tyree, who died Aug. 4, 1977.

She is survived by her husband, John D. Tyree, whom she married Feb. 3, 1945; a son, Michael Tyree of Iowa, La.; two daughters, Martha Fields of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Patricia Johnson of Johnstown; five grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service, which will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Tribes Hill United Methodist Church, Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill. There will be no calling hours.

Cremation will take place in Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.

Memorial contributions may be made to the choir fund of the Tribes Hill United Presbyterian Church, Mohawk Drive, Tribes Hill 12177.

Julia Szurek
Sept. 20, 1996

Julia M. Szurek, 86, formerly of 52 VanDerveer St., Amsterdam, died Friday afternoon at the Montgomery County Infirmary, where she had been a resident since February 1993.

She was born in Amsterdam Feb. 14, 1910, the daughter of Joseph and Bernice Stepien Halgas and attended schools in Amsterdam. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam.

Mrs. Szurek was employed as a setter at the former Bigelow Sanford Carpet Mills in Amsterdam. She later worked as an assembler at Consolidated Novelty of Amsterdam, retiring in 1975.

She was a communicant of the Church of St. John the Baptist, Amsterdam, and was a member of the rosary society of the parish. She was a member of St. John's Seniors and was also one of the pierogi ladies at the church.

She was married to Matthew Szurek April 26, 1952. He died May 15, 1990.

Survivors include four sisters, Mary Zaklukiewicz, Jean Mielcasz, Monica Cichy and Eleanor Swierzowski, all of Amsterdam; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

The funeral is 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Riley Mortuary, 110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. John the Baptist, 40 VanDerveer St.

Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of St. John the Baptist.

Minnie Anderson
Sept. 21, 1996

Minnie M. Anderson, 98, of 71 N. Main St., Broadalbin, died Saturday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital where she had been admitted earlier.

She was born in Broadalbin Jan. 25, 1898, the daughter of Donald and Bertha Brooks Anderson and was a graduate of the former Broadalbin High School. She attended a private college in Cortland, which today is a part of the state university system. She was a lifelong resident of Broadalbin.

Miss Anderson was a teacher of English and journalism at the former Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School in Amsterdam, retiring in 1962.

She was active in girl scouting for more than 60 years in Amsterdam and Broadalbin and was awarded a Thanks Badge, the highest honor given to an adult scout. The former Amsterdam Council and the Mohawk Pathways Girl Scout Council bestowed this honor in recognition of her outstanding contributions to scouting in Amsterdam and Broadalbin, and at council headquarters in Schenectady.

Miss Anderson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Broadalbin since 1915 and was serving as its treasurer. She was a former elder and former Sunday school teacher at the church and served on several committees there.

She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association. She was a charter member and past president of the Sacandaga Garden Club in Northville. She was also a trustee of the Union Mills Cemetery Association.

Survivors include a sister, Pauline H. Anderson of Broadalbin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will he held Sunday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 54 W. Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. Paul Moyer officiating. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall after the service.

Cremation will take place at the Parkview Crematory, Schenectady.

Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Garden Fund at the First Presbyterian Church.

Helen Delaney
Sept. 20, 1996

Helen A. Delaney, 86, of 173 Woodrow Road, Amsterdam, died Friday afternoon at St. Mary's Hospital.

She was born Nov. 19, 1909, in Carthage, the daughter of Edward and Flora Johndrow Rhubart.

She attended St. Augustine Institute in Carthage and moved to Amsterdam in 1971. 

Mrs. Delaney was a homemaker and a member of the Women's Auxiliary of the John J. Wyszomirski Post 701 American Legion of Amsterdam.

She was of the Roman Catholic faith.

She was married March 3, 1941, to Joseph D. Delaney. He died Feb. 8, 1988. She was predeceased by a son, William Rhubart, who died in 1988.

Survivors include a sister, Edna Baldwin of Albany; two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

There will be no funeral service or calling hours.

Burial of cremains will be in St. James Cemetery, Carthage.

Ann VanAuskas
Sept. 20, 1996

Ann VanAuskas, 81, of Gloversville died Friday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a short illness.

She was born May 23, 1915, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Frank and Harriet Wozniak Wolak. She graduated from Amsterdam High School, and moved to Gloversville, where she lived for the past 40 years.

Mrs. VanAuskas was a self-employed beautician in the Amsterdam area for more than 15 years and later was employed in the customer services department of Cro-Sen Cleaners of Gloversville, retiring in 1979.

She was a former member of St. John's Church of Amsterdam.

She was married Nov. 21, 1949, to Vincent (Bill) VanAuskas. He died July 16, 1978.

Survivors include a son, Frank VanAuskas of Gloversville; a granddaughter, Courtney VanAuskas; and cousins.

All visitation and funeral services will be private. Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery, Johnstown.

Mary Dilluvio
Sept. 20, 1996

Mary Palm Dilluvio, 86, of Park Ridge Nursing Home, Rochester, formerly of Canajoharie, died Friday at Park Ridge Hospital in Rochester after a short illness.

She was born in Canajoharie Jan. 11, 1910, the daughter of Joseph and Maria E. DelGenio Tiberio. She was educated in Canajoharie.

She lived in Canajoharie for 50 years and then moved to Manhattan and later moved to Florida, where she lived for 20 years. She moved to Rochester in July 1994.

Mrs. Dilluvio was employed at Arkel & Smith in Canajoharie for more than 20 years, retiring as inspector in 1957.

She was a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, Canajoharie, and a former member of its Rosary Society.

Her first husband, Anthony J. Palm, died in August 1952. She was also predeceased by her second husband, Salvatore Dilluvio.

Survivors include a daughter, Angela McKeown of Rochester; a son, Anthony J. Palm of Hudson Falls; three stepdaughters, Phyllis Bartalotta of Long Island, Rosalie Primavera of Yonkers and Connie Conrad of Danbury, Conn.; a stepson, Anthony Dilluvio of Nyack; three sisters, Carmita Lupo of Canajoharie, Stella Peruzzi of Canajoharie and her twin sister Florence "Phyllis" Collado of Amsterdam; a brother, Rocco Tiberio of California; seven grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A prayer service is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Gaffigan officiating.

Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, Canajoharie.

Calling hours are Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Andrea Axel
Sept. 20, 1996

Andrea Vlock Axel, 36, died Friday in Shaker Heights, Ohio. 

She was born Sept. 20, 1960, in New York City, the daughter of Dr. Richard and Ruth Lehman Vlock of Gloversville.

She moved to Gloversville in 1963 and graduated from high school there. She received a degree in psychology from Cornell University.

Mrs. Axel was a member of the Congregation Shaarey Tikbah synagogue in Shaker Heights, Ohio. She was a member of the hadassah and a former member of the Knesseth Israel Synagogue and Jewish Community Center, both of Gloversville.

Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Michael Axel of Shaker Heights; maternal grandmother Nellie Lehman of Manhattan; a son, Mark Axel, and two daughters, Jessica and Emily, all of Shaker Heights; a brother, Robert Vlock, and a sister Dr. Deborah Vlock, both of Boston; aunts uncles and cousins.

The funeral was today in Cleveland,.

Bertha Bertuch
Sept. 21, 1996

Bertha T. Bertuch, 93, formerly of 333 Division St. and the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, died Saturday afternoon at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Brooklyn Oct. 23, 1902, the daughter of Martin and Josephine Giuffre Pano.

She was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute and was co-owner of C and B Market from 1935 to 1974, when she retired.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Rosary Society of the parish, and was the oldest living member of St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary.

Her husband, Charles J. Bertuch Sr., died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Charles J. Bertuch Jr of Amsterdam; a daughter, Frances M. Gawron of Niskayuna; two sisters, Marian Tjaden of Chestertown and Josephine Peters of Waterbury, Conn.; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral is 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
