Margretta L. Agnostopulos, 78, of 180 Mariners Road, Mayfield, died Friday afternoon at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a short illness.

She was born in Broadalbin April 15, 1918, the daughter of Ernest and Hazel Rosa Luff. She lived in Broadalbin for many years, lived in Gloversville for 15 years and then in Mayfield for 14 years.

Mrs. Agnostopulos graduated from Broadalbin High School and later attended Syracuse University.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Broadalbin.

Survivors include three sons, John Agno of Ann Arbor, Mich., James Agnostopulos of Gloversville and William Anagostopulos of Mayfield; a daughter, Jill Maye of Saratoga Springs; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Broadalbin Cemetery.

A private visitation will take place at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 54 W. Main St., Broadalbin.

Mary Caputo
Aug. 2, 1996

Mary C. Caputo, 80, of Fairground Avenue, Ballston Spa, died Friday at Saratoga Hospital in Saratoga Springs after a short illness.

She was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Amsterdam, the daughter of Pasquale and Assunta Lambert Baia. She was a Ballston Spa resident for the past 50 years.

Mrs. Caputo was co-proprietor of Caputo Oil Co., Ballston Spa; Caputo Plumbing & Heating; Union Hotel Bar & Restaurant; and a former chef at the White House restaurant in Ballston Spa.

She was a member of the Ballston Spa Area Senior Citizens, Court St. Mary's Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Par 29 Women's Golf League, and the Ballston Spa Ladies Bowling League.

She was also a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Ballston Spa.

Her husband, Nicholas S. Caputo, died Nov. 10, 1987.

Survivors include a son, John Caputo of Ballston Spa; a daughter, Rosemarie A. Lynett of Ballston Spa; a sister, Florence A. Maslak of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Rose Squeglia; and four brothers, Dominick, Ralph, Alfred and Clement Baia.

Funeral services are Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Mevec Funeral Home,. 224 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

Interment will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, Saratoga Springs.

Calling hours are Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Roger Zanella
Aug. 3, 1996

Roger Zanella Sr., 86, formerly of Edinburg-Northville Road, died Saturday morning at the Edward L. Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility in Amsterdam, where he had been a resident since June.

He was born in Amsterdam Oct. 5, 1909, the son of Carl and Carmella Pantone Zanella and was educated in local schools. He was a lifelong area resident and lived in Northville since 1981.

Mr. Zanella was a self-employed building contractor in the Amsterdam area.

He was married to the former Irene E. Mason Dec. 3, 1926. She died Aug. 1, 1993.

Survivors include three sons, Roger Zanella Jr. of Perth, Martin Zanella of Amsterdam and Robert Zanella of Palm Coast, Fla.; a brother, Benedict Zanella of Hollywood, Fla.; a sister, Mildred Montanye of Gloversville; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; several; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Bernard Zanella, in 1946.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W. Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. Robert Doxey officiating.

Burial will be in Hagaman Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to a local ambulance corps of choice.
 

Casmier Sikorski
August 4, 1996

Casmier F. Sikorski, 76, of Regina Lane, Amsterdam, died Sunday at his home.

Born Oct. 24, 1919 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Frank and Mary Popiel Sikorski. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Sikorski attended Perth Central High School and was a graduate of the Allied Machine Co. School of Mechanical Trades of Chicago, Ill.

He was employed by the General Electric Co. in Schenectady. In 1949, Mr. Sikorski established the Sikorski Service Station on Prospect Street, which he owned and operated until retiring in 1983. 

He was a member of the American Legion Post 701, the 40-8 Voiture Militaire; the Polish American Veterans; the Knights of Columbus Council 209; the Amvets; Bigelow Weavers Club; the Polish National Alliance; the Gasoline Retailer Association of Northeast New York and the former St. John's Club.

He was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations.

Mr. Sikorski was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist and St. Stanislaus Church. 

He married Albina S. Krupa on Oct. 26, 1946.

In addition to his wife, survivors, include a son, Francis C. Sikorski of Amsterdam; two daughters, Bernadine C. Sikorski of Oakridge, Tenn.; and Evelyn A. Sikorski of Shelburne, Vt.; three sisters, Josephine Blacha of Hagaman, Bernice Kiszkiel of Broadalbin and Edith Hovak of Hagaman; three grandsons; one granddaughter; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home, 13 Belmont Place, followed at 9:30 a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. John The Baptist.

Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marie Martin
August 3, 1996

Marie Kingsbury Martin, 74, of Madison Avenue, Troy, died Saturday at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a brief illness.

Born in Fonda, she was the daughter of Earl J. and Rose Hopkins Kingsbury.

She was married to William G. Martin.

Mrs. Martin had resided in Fonda for many years and in Troy since 1961 and was a graduate of Fonda High School.

Mrs. Martin was employed by Grand Union for 19 years as supervisor of Triple S Blue Stamps retiring in 1982. Prior to that she worked for S & H Green Stamps for several years.

Survivors in addition to her husband, include a daughter, George-Ann Gillen of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; a son, Larry D. Martin of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Doris Angillo of Rotterdam; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy, with Deacon Martin Wendell, chaplain of the Samaritan Hospital, officiating.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be Memory's Garden, Colonie.

Joseph "Jake" LoBalbo
August 3, 1996

Joseph J. "Jake" LoBalbo, 86, of the Amsterdam High Rise Apartments, and formerly of Putman Street, Amsterdam, died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.

Born in Feb. 16, 1910 Tunis, Tunisia, he was the son of Salvatore and Marie Gentile LoBalbo.

Mr. LoBalbo was employed as a tapestry weaver with Mohasco Corp., for 40 years, retiring in 1972.

He is an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209 of Amsterdam; an honorary life member of Msgr. William A. Brown Assembly 4th Degree of the Council; and a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He was a original and founding member of the Holy Names Society. Mr. LoBalbo is pre-deceased by six sisters.

Survivors include two nephews, Raymond Lazzaro of Latham and Louis Sacco of Schenectady; one great-niece, Sarah Lazzaro of Latham and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30a.m. Tuesday at the De Stefano Funeral Home, Route 5S, Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

Interment will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery. 

Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

All members of Council 209 are asked to meet at 6:45 p.m. to conduct services at the funeral home.

Marian Therrien
August 4, 1996

Marian C. Therrien, 69, of103 Finch Road, Broadalbin, died Sunday morning at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, where she had been a patient for two weeks.

Born Sept. 27, 1926 in Whitehall, she was the daughter ofJoseph and Ethel Stewart La Flower and was educated in schools there. She resided in Albany before moving to Broadalbin in 1973.

Mrs. Therrien worked for the Arthritis Foundation in Albany for several years. She later was employed at Coleco Industries in Mayfield. 

She married Clayton H. Therrien on June 25, 1943. He died on Oct. 24, 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Ledbetter of Amsterdam and Louise Graves of Latham; a sister, Betty Roberts of Cohoes; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Robert M. Halgas Funeral Home Inc., 38 W, Main St., Broadalbin, with the Rev. Matthew Collins officiating.

Burial will be at the Broadalbin Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
 

Clinton Heiser
Aug. 4, 1996

Clinton E. Heiser, 85, of Clinton Road, Canajoharie, died Sunday at home after being stricken.

Born in the Town of Canajoharie, he was theson of Elmer Heiser and Caroline Apple. Mr. Heiser was educated in Canajoharie schools. He was employed for 42 years at the Life Savers plant, retiring as a printer in 1975.

Mr. Heiser was a member of St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the International Order of the Odd Fellows, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 853.

He also was a member of the Fort Plain Senior Center, the St. Johnsville Senior Center Citizen Saints, and the Life Savers 25 Year Club.

He married Frances Leneker on Oct. 17, 1931. She died May 5, 1983.

Survivors include two sons, Virgil C. Heiser of Fort Plain and James E. Heiser of Middleburgh; a brother, Donald Heiser of Canajoharie; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie, with the Rev. John Omans officiating.

Burial will take place in the Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Moose Lodge 853 will conduct a service at 7 p.m.

Everett Mochrie
Aug. 5, 1996

Everett T. Mochrie, 68, of Jay Street, Amsterdam, died Monday morning at his home following a long illness.

Born Feb. 28, 1928 in Amsterdam, the son of Kenneth and Catherine Newkirk Mochrie, he was a lifelong resident.

Mr. Mochrie was employed as a carpenter for many years by various local contractors, retiring several years ago.

Mr. Mochrie was a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church.

He was a former member of the Carpeters Union Local.

Survivors include a daughter, Dawn Dingman of Amsterdam; a son, Patrick Mochrie of Florida; two brothers, Robert Mochrie of Bay City, Michigan, and Kenneth Mochrie of Broadalbin; a sister, Shirley Kelly of Amsterdam; five grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Anthony Gulley officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.

Calling hours are today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

John Kosiba
Aug. 5, 1996

John L. Kosiba of State Route 67, Amsterdam, died Monday evening at his home.

Born in Amsterdam, he was theson of Joseph and Catherine Krygowski Kosiba. He attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident.

For several years, he was employed as a welder at Consolidated Deisel in Schenectady. He also operated Kosiba's Lock Shop.

Mr. Kosiba was the builder of the world's largest padlock which at 2671/2 pounds, is currently on display at Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum in Orlando, Fla.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Miami as a Fireman 1st Class. He was awarded nine Bronze Stars. 

Mr. Kosiba was a member of St. Stephen's Church in Hagaman. He was a member of the John J. Wyszomirski American Legion Post 701, a life member of VFW Post 55, a member of the Central New York State Locksmith Association and the Lock Museum of America Inc.

In addition to his wife, Genevieve Rudzinski Kosiba, whom he married Aug. 12, 1951, he is survived by one daughter, Geraldine Bowen of Broadalbin; one sister, Clara Gutowski of Latham; one brother, Gilbert Kosiba of Amsterdam; and three grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday at the Jendrzejczak Funeral Home, 200 Church St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at the Church of St. John the Baptist.

Interment will be held in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. 

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Hazel Thompson
Aug. 1, 1996

Hazel Belle Thompson, 97, formerly of 403 Parrish Lane, Syracuse, died Aug. 1 at Van Duyn Home and Hospital.

Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Thompson was a machinist for Johnstown Knitting Mill.

She was a member of the Salvation Army Golden Agers.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Bauder of Willmington, Ohio, Lorraine Liszewski of Syracuse, Elaine Converse of Dryden; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, and nephews. Her husband, Warren H. Thompson died in 1950.

Funeral services were held Monday at Ballweg & Lunsford Funeral Home.

Burial will take place in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Calling hours were held Sunday, Aug. 4.
