Mrs. Anne C. Soules, 83, of Mayfield, died Monday at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after being stricken at home.

Born and educated in Gloversville, Mrs. Soules was a glove worker for several glove shops and later an assembly line worker for Coleco Industries. Most recently, she was a teachers aide at the Kingsboro Elementary School in Gloversville, retiring in 1990.

Mrs. Soules was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church.

Her husband, Arthur F. Soules Sr., whom she married Feb. 10, 1934, died in 1991.

Survivors include a son, Arthur J. Soules of Gloversville; a daughter, Beverly Ashbey of Mayfield; four brothers, Anthony and Carmen Christiano, both of Gloversville, Frank Christiano of Orlando, Fla., and Nicholas Christiano of Long Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Mary VanNostrand of Mayfield and Caroline Yerina of Gloversville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday at the John W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will be in Ferndale Cemetery in Johnstown.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
 

Larry Ligon
October 14, 1996

Larry C. Ligon, 36, of 25 Wells St., Gloversville, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.

Born Dec. 28, 1959, in Gloversville, he was the son of John T. and Ellen Pollard Ligon Sr. He was a lifelong Gloversville resident and attended Gloversville schools.

Mr. Ligon worked for several years at the Serta Mattress Co. in Gloversville before becoming a pressroom worker with the The Leader Herald for a short time until his illness.

Mr. Ligon was a member of A.M.E. Zion Church in Gloversville.

Survivors include his mother, Ellen Ligon of Gloversville; his paternal grandfather, Theopolis Ligon of Gloversville; a brother, John T. Ligon Jr. of Saratoga; a brother, Paul N. Ligon of Gloversville; brother, Neal Ligon of Rochester; four sisters, Gail Ligon, stationed with the U.S. Army in Fort Leonard Wood, Miss.; JoAnn Allen of Gloversville; Rebecca Ligon, stationed with the U.S. Army in Seattle, Wash,; and Tina Cook, of Rochester; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the Rev. Robert R. Daggs, pastor of the Peoples A.M.E. Zion Church, officiating. Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Jerica Skinner
October 15, 1996

Jerica Maya Skinner, 3 months old, of 110 Francis St., Gloversville, died Tuesday at Nathan Littauer Hospital.

Born June 27 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of William "Ben" Skinner and Corrine A. Yacobucci.

In addition to her parents, survivors include a brother, Zachary Skinner, and a sister, Taylor Skinner, both of Gloversville; her maternal grandparents, Rodney and Wendy Yacobucci of Canajoharie; her maternal great-grandmother, Norma Wells of Canajoharie; her maternal great-grandparents, Sylvio and Mildred Yacobucci, also of Canajoharie; maternal great-grandfather, Ronald Wells of Fort Plain; paternal grandparents, William and Dolores Skinner of Gloversville; paternal great-grandmother, Mary Skinner, also of Gloversville; and her paternal great-grandmother, Arlene Horning of Canajoharie. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. Burial will be in St. Johnsville Cemetery, St. Johnsville.

A calling hour will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service.
 

John "Ray" Parker
October 16, 1996

Former Northville resident John "Ray" Parker, 81, of Clinton House, New Haven, Conn., died Wednesday at St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven after a long illness.

Born in Gilmantown, Mr. Parker was educated in Wells and lived in Schenectady before moving to Northville. He resided in Connecticut for the past year.

For 30 years, he was a machinist for American Locomotive Products in Schenectady. Later, he worked in the same capacity for the General Electric Co., also in Schenectady, retiring in 1978.

His wife, Madeline Morris Parker, whom he married in June 1942, died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Dennis T. Parker of Northville; a daughter, Michele Ruggeri of Johnstown; a brother, Frank Parker of Wells; a sister, Kathleen Callahan of Great Bend, Pa.; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Edinburg Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Northville Funeral Home.
 

Raymond Perry
October 16, 1996

Raymond Edgar Perry, 70, of East Main Street, Fonda, died Wednesday at home after a long illness.

Born March 31, 1926 in Wolfeboro, N.H., he was the son of Edgar and Delphine Ames Perry. Mr. Perry came to Fonda 32 years ago from Binghamton.

He was a graduate of Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro and Becker College in Worcester, Mass., with an associate's degree in business.

During World War II, Mr. Perry served with the U.S. Army Air Force.

For 22 years, he was a regional manager for the J.J. Newbury Co. until the company went out of business. Later, he was a route dispatcher for the Glen-Mohawk Milk and Creamery Association retiring in 1985 after 21 years.

Mr. Perry was a member of the American Legion Post, the Masons in Massachusetts and the Shriners.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He married Mildred Jordan Perry on May 22, 1965.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Scott S. Perry of Fultonville and Raymond E. Perry Jr. of Swanzey, N.H., a stepson, David R. Ingalls of Rockwood; a daughter, Susan McDonald of Washington; a sister, Esther Fleck of Fultonville; and seven grandchildren, and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory in Schenectady.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Maple Avenue Cemetery, Fultonville, with Pastor Christopher Hamm of the Fonda-Fultonville United Methodist Church officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, or the American Heart Association, New Karner Road, Albany.

John Casabonne Jr.
October 16, 1996

John Earl Casabonne Jr., 80, of Summit Avenue, Amsterdam, died Wednesday at St. Mary's Hospital.

Born May 10, 1916, in Amsterdam, he was the son of John and Emma Baid Casabonne and was a lifelong resident. He was educated in Amsterdam schools.

Mr. Casabonne was employed by the U.S. Navy Supply Depot and the General Service Administration, both in Scotia, retiring in 1970.

He was a veteran of World War II and served with the 104th Infantry Division in Europe as a technical sergeant.

He was a member of St. Mary's Church, the Holy Name Society, the St. Mary's Seniors, and the James T. Bergen Post No. 39.

His first wife, Elizabeth Reilly Casabonne, died in 1980. His second wife, Margaret Reilly Casabonne (sisters) died in 1995.

Mr. Casabonne is survived by a son, Richard Casabonne of Newton, Mass.; one daughter, Ann Martin of Amsterdam; four grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Riley Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.

Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Hospital Foundation or the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
 

Josephine Garguilo
October 16, 1996

Mrs. Josephine Raneri Garguilo, 89, of Prospect Street, Gloversville, died Wednesday at the Fulton County Infirmary after a long illness.

Born in Canicatti, Sicily, Mrs. Garguilo came to this country in 1923. She was a glovemaker at Superb Glove Co. in Johnstown for 40 years, retiring in 1967.

Mrs. Garguilo was a member of St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church.

Her first husband, Joseph Raneri, whom she married in 1927, died in 1949. Her second, John V. Garguilo, whom she married in 1954, died in 1967.

Survivors include a daughter, Carmela Garguilo of Gloversville; a son, Vincent A. Raneri of Johnstown; 10 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:45 a.m. Friday at the Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets, and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown.

George Fredericks
October 10, 1996

George Robert Fredericks, 77, of Old Maple Hill Road, Canajoharie, died Oct. 10 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Red Bluff, Calif. He had been visiting his daughter in the Red Bluff area.

Born Feb. 7, 1919, in Canajoharie, he was the son of Albert and Clara Shineman Fredericks and was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Fredericks was a dairy farmer for 60 years and after retiring he remained active as a bus driver for 10 years with the Canajoharie Central School District. He also sold Watkins Products and seed corn. 

Mr. Fredericks was a communicant of St. Johns-St. Marks Lutheran Church of Canajoharie and was a 30-year member of the Cross Trail Square Dance Club.

He married the former Rosalie Smith on Nov. 30, 1946.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard Fredericks of Dolgeville and Andrew Fredericks of Canajoharie; four daughters, JoAnn Coghlan of Syracuse, Diane Spranger of Palatine Bridge, Maryann Crain of Los Molinos, Calif., and Susanne Wheeler of Canajoharie; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's-St. Marks Lutheran Church, with the Rev. John Omans officiating. The interment will be in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. 

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St., Canajoharie.

Marjorie Kougher
October 16, 1996

Marjorie Marie Kougher, 96, of Montgomery Meadows, formerly of Route 10, Canajoharie, died Wednesday at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam, after a long illness.

Born Jan. 7, 1900, in Canajoharie, she was the daughter of William Fredericks and Bertha Lettis. She was educated in the Canajoharie area schools.

Mrs. Kougher worked at the Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp. in the strained foods department for many years and later at Comptones in Canajoharie retiring in 1960. She and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm for many years in Marshville and she was a lifelong area resident.

Mrs. Kougher was a member of Marshville Evangelical Church.

She married Benjamin Kougher in May of 1919. He died Feb. 27, 1973.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Donna J. Hassan of Esperance and a grandson, Stephen Kougher of Walden, four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Seymour Kougher in 1982.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Pastor John Mitchell of the Christian Church of Rural Grove will officiate. Burial will be be Fort Plain Cemetery.

Helen Smullen
October 17, 1996

Mrs. Helen Smullen, 83, formerly of Eagle Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at St. Mary's Hospital. She had been a patient at Montgomery Meadows since March of 1994.

Born March 11, 1913, in Amsterdam, she was a daughter of Agabito and Philomena Naples Furiani. She attended Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong city resident. Mrs. Smullen was employed by Fownes Bros. & Co. of Amsterdam for many years. 

Mrs. Smullen was a communicant of St. Michael The Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam.

She is survived by two nieces, Joan Norwood of Schenectady and Donna Giardono of Amsterdam; a nephew, James Giardono of Van Nuys, Calif.; a grandniece and a grandnephew and a great-grandniece and two great-grandnephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Michael's Church. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Michael Wolf
October 17, 1996

Michael C. Wolf, 48, of Southgate Road, Loudonville, died Thursday at Albany Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of former Amsterdam resident Roberta Trejderowski Wolf.

Born in Schenectady, he was the son of the late George and Helen Bauer Wolf and had resided in the Capital District all of his life.

Mr. Wolf received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Rochester and his master of business associates from the State University of New York College at Albany. At the time of his death, he was a supervising analyst for the New York State Office of the Comptroller, where he has been employed for more than 20 years.

As a communicant of St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church in Latham, Mr. Wolf was a member of the church's St. Vincent DePaul Society, its Holy Names Society and was a Catechist for the 4th Grade Religious Education Program on Saturday morning and the 8th Grade on Monday evenings. Mr. Wolf was also a member of the American Society of Public Administrators.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Roberta Trejderowski Wolf, his children, Stephen, Laura, Douglas and Rebecca Wolf, all of Loudonville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church in Latham. There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Albany Medical Center Children's Hospital, 47 New Scotland Ave., Albany 12208.

Ksenia "Sadie" Simek
October 11, 1996

Mrs. Ksenia "Sadie" Schwartz Simek, 75, of Pleasant Avenue, Johnstown, died Oct. 11 at her home.

Mrs. Simek was born in Hoboken, N.J. and was employed as a bookkeeper for more than 34 years at Simco Leather in Johnstown, retiring in 1994.

Mrs. Simek was a member of St. Anthony's Church, where she served as a Eucharist minister and was a member of the Christian Women of the Church. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She married Fred J. Simek on Sept. 2, 1939.

In addition to her husband, survivors include three sons, David Simek of Edinburg, Richard Simek of Johnstown and Gerald Simek of Gloversville; three sisters, Helen Pasek of Greenfield Center, Marion Eggleston of Corinth and Stella Gailor of Saratoga Springs; and seven grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony's Church. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

David Peck
October 14, 1996

David W. Peck, 41, of Cherry Street, Gloversville, died Monday at home after a long illness.

Born in Schenectady, Mr. Peck was a 1972 graduate of Johnstown High School, where he played football and was a record-holding swimmer. He attended the Rochester Institute of Technology on a football scholarship.

At one time, he worked for the Merchant Marine and later was a coach for the Laser Swim Team. He also taught scuba diving and was proprietor of the C&D Scuba Shop. For 15 years, he was an advertising sales representative and later an electrician for the Leader-Herald newspaper. Most recently, he worked as an electrician.

Mr. Peck was a former member of the Glove Cities Colonials football team.

He married Catherine Madden Peck on March 3.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Jenice Peck of Eustis, Fla., and Nadine Zarrelli of Gloversville; two sons, Kyle Peck of Seattle and Chad Peck of Tavares Fla.; his mother, Jean Stanley Peck of Gloversville; his father and stepmother, David and Nancy Peck of Woolwich, Maine; two brothers Michael Peck of Johnstown and Matthew Peck of Woolwich; six sisters, Susan Orcutt, Michele Baldwin, and Jennifer Garren-Wagschel, all of Gloversville, Pam Blanchard of Georgetown, Maine, Allison Wehri of Yuba City, Calif., and Kelly Arsenault of Lassellsville; and a granddaughter.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, Gloversville.

There will be no calling hours.

William Wheeler
October 16, 1996

William "Bill" Wheeler, 69, of Hazlehurst, Ga., died Wednesday.

Born in Schenectady, Mr. Wheeler lived in Jeff Davis County, Ga., for the past two years.

He was a draftsman before retiring.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Wheeler of Hazlehurst; three daughters, Linda Williams of Chatham, Nancy Boudreau Wheeler and Mary Sulima, both of Hazlehurst; two sons, Dennis Wheeler of Valdosta and Kenneth Wheeler of Gloversville; three sisters, Norma Wheeler of Connecticut, Phyllis Rowe of Hudson, Fla., and Sallie Jean Vedder of Clifton Park; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Miles Funeral Home, 101 Jarman St., Hazlehurst, Ga.

Calling hours will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
