Montgomery County, New York School Yearbooks
Charles W. Meyers, 88, of Putman Road, Sprakers, died Thursday evening
at Albany Medical Center Hospital after being stricken at home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1908, in Palisades Park, N.J., the son of William
and Agnes Gallagher Meyers. He was educated in Paramus, N.J.
Mr. Meyers was a printer and a foreman at the New York Law Journal in
New York City all his working life before retiring. He was also a driver
for the South Orangetown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and a member of the
Pressman's Union of New York City.
He lived in Bergenfield, N.J., and Tappan until moving to Sprakers six
years ago.
His first wife, Alberta Lamme Meyers, died July 19, 1955. He married
Dorathea L. Marxhausen April 16, 1957, in Demerest, N.J. She died Dec.
18, 1994.
Survivors include a daughter, Louis A. Williams of Sprakers; a son,
William C. Meyers of Paramus, N.J.; a step-son, Alfred Hess of Demerest,
N.J.; a step-daughter, Barbara Griepenburg of Old Tappan, N.J.; 13 grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews.
Graveside services are Monday at 1 p.m. at the Tappan Reformed Church
Cemetery in Tappan.

Lynn Chatterton
Lynn M. Chatterton, 41, of 251 Sweet Road, Johnstown, died suddenly
Friday at home.
She was born May 17, 1955, in Gloversville, the daughter of William
and Claire Couture Chatterton. A 1973 graduate of Gloversville High School
and 1975 graduate of Fulton-Montgomery Community College, she was a lifelong
area resident.
She was a transportation department driver for Lexington Center, Johnstown,
for 18 years until her death.
She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the former St. Mary's
Church in Gloversville.
Survivors include her mother of Gloversville; her companion of eight
years, Bette Malachowski, with whom she resided; two sisters, Carol A.
Brown of Gloversville and Marianne Chatterton of Hamilton, Mass.; a brother,
William A. Chatterton of Raleigh, N.C.; four nieces, two uncles, one aunt
and several cousins.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral
Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be
conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday with the Rev. Thomas J. Boyle, administrator
of Sacred Heart Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

John McKeough
John F. (Jack) McKeough, 80, of 8 Wren St., Amsterdam, died Friday at
the Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
He was born May 23, 1916, in Amsterdam, he was the son of John M. and
Helen Walsh McKeough. He was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1934 graduate of St. Mary's Institute. He also attended the
Amsterdam School of Commerce and later attended the International Correspondence
School in Chicago.
Mr. McKeough was employed by the former Bigelow-Sanford Carpet mills
and later was an assistant architect for the New York state Architectural
Division in Albany. He was also employed by the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral
Home until retiring.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 209; Club 60; Retired
Public Employee Association Inc.; the CSEA Retired Program 1000; and the
Public Employee Federation of AFL-CIO.
Mr. McKeough was a member of St. Stanislaus Church and its Holy Mane
Society.
He married Jean D. Alibozek Sept. 20, 1941.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Dr. David T. McKeough
of Gibsonia, Pa.; a brother, Robert C. McKeough of Amsterdam; a sister,
Florence Saucier of Winooski, Vt.; two granddaughters; several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj Funeral Home,
13 Belmont Place, Amsterdam, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian
Burial at St. Stanislaus Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Calling hours are Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Joseph Furman
Joseph A. Furman Jr., 40, formerly of South Third Street, Northville,
died Friday at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Utica, following a long illness.
He was born Sept. 25, 1956, in Gloversville, the son of Joseph A. Furman
Sr. and Linda Wilson. He was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1976 graduate of Northville Central School and was employed
at one time for the Village of Northville and by Nathan Littauer Hospital
in the housekeeping department.
He was a member of the Northville United Methodist Church and the Northville
Northampton Historical Society.
Survivors include his father of Broadalbin; his mother, Linda Mosher,
of Northville; a brother, Timothy Furman of Mayfield; a sister, Cynthia
Dean of Stanfordville; a niece, a nephew and several cousins.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Northville Funeral Home,
401 Bridge St. Burial will be in King Cemetery, Northville.

Patricia Salamack
Patricia H. Salamack, 55, of Margaret Drive, Loudonville, died Friday
evening at Albany Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 29, 1941, in North Tarrytown, the daughter of Glenn
and Doris Tonge Welsh. She lived in Loudonville since 1987. Mrs. Salamack
was a graduate of Harper College.
She was first employed in the education department and later for the
New York Civil Service. For the past 12 years she was senior program analyst
for the state Teachers Retirement System in Albany.
Mrs. Salamack was a flutist with the Saratoga Music Company Orchestra.
An avid genealogist, she was a member of the Empire State Capitol Volkssporters
Walking Club.
She married Joseph A. Salamack, formerly of Amsterdam, on Sept. 13,
1969.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her parents of Altamont;
a brother, Ronald Welsh of Catskill; a sister, Arlene Dorischild of Webster,
Mass.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh
Funeral Home, 140 Old Loudon Road, Latham, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Francis DeSales Roman Catholic Church, Maria Drive.
Interment is in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Louis Rusnica
Louis Rusnica, 65, of Francisco Lane, Amsterdam, died Saturday morning
at his home following a long illness.
He was born in Pattersonville Dec. 23, 1930, the son of Vincent and
Aniela Rusnica. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High
School.
Mr. Rusnica was employed for more than 30 years by the General Electric
Co. in Schenectady before retiring in 1988.
He was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church
and a member of the G.E. Quarter Century Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jane C. Francisco, whom he married
June 6, 1954; two daughters, Sandra Rogozinski of Riverdale, N.J., and
Susan M. Korchinsky of Amsterdam; two brothers, John Rusnica of Amsterdam
and Thomas Rusnica of Pattersonville; two sisters, Helen Russell of Glen
and Ann Staley of Northville; two grandsons; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are Monday at 8:30 a.m. at the Rossi Funeral Home,
11 Mohawk Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at
St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Bernard Piorkowski
Bernard C. Piorkowski, 68, of Green Street, Amsterdam, died Saturday
morning at St. Mary's Hospital.
He was born in Amsterdam July 20, 1928, the son of Frank and Mary Mydlowski
Piorkowski and was a lifelong area resident.
He was educated at the former St. Joseph's School and was a graduate
of St. Mary's Institute, class of 1946.
He was a Prudential Insurance agent for 30 years, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Piorkowski was a member of the Church of St. John the Baptist.
He married the former Dolores Opalka Sept. 24, 1950.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Frank J. Piorkowski
of Spring, Texas; a daughter, Susan Newell of Amsterdam; four sisters,
Sister Mary Jeanette of the Felecian Order, Adams, Mass., Stella Trzaskos
of Amsterdam, Kay Kosiba of Perth and Dorothy Kwiatkowski of Amsterdam;
four grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Riley Mortuary Inc.,
110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed at 9:15 a.m. by a Mass of Christian
Burial at the Church of St. John the Baptist.
Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Freda Wallin
Freda Kormanek Wallin, 80, of St. Paul, Minn., formerly of Amsterdam,
died Friday evening at home.
She was born in Amsterdam July 16, 1916, the daughter of Paul and Helen
Paszcak Kormanek. She was educated at St. Stanislaus School and the former
Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mrs. Wallin was the secretary for John Donnelly, president of the former
Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co. of Amsterdam. She was also secretary for former
Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey Jr. She retired from Macalester College
in St. Paul, Minn.
She was a member of the Hiland Niner Golf League in St. Paul, a former
member of St. Stanislaus Church and most recently a member of St. Leo's
Catholic Church in St. Paul.
Her husband, Francis P. "Chip" Wallin, whom she married in 1939, died
in 1995.
She is survived by a son, Bruce A. Wallin of Boston; a daughter, Barbara
Ann Lynch of St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Charlotte Burtman of Amsterdam;
four grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. at the Riley Mortuary Inc.,
110 Division St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St.
Stanislaus Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Carlos Carrero
Carlos Carrero, 52, of McDonald Street, Amsterdam, died Saturday morning
at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after being stricken.
He was born March 13, 1944, in Maricao, Puerto Rico, the son of Juan
and Cristina Valentin Carrero.
He moved to New York City in 1961. Mr. Carrero lived in Webster, Mass.,
for eight years before moving to Amsterdam last year.
He was employed by the New London Submarine Base in Connecticut.
He was of the Roman Catholic faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Milagros Diaz of New York City and
Elizabeth and Cristina Carrero, both of Amsterdam; a son, Carlos Carrero
Jr. of Florida; five brothers, Miguel and Rafael Carrero, both of New York
City, Jose and Luis Carrero, both of Amsterdam, and Efraim Carrero of Webster,
Mass.; two sisters, Isabel Torres and Milagros Carrero, both of Amsterdam;
a grandson; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services are Monday at noon at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk
Place, with the Rev. Lawrence J. Decker officiating.
Interment is in Fairview Cemetery.

Kevin Traskos
Kevin L. Traskos, 46, of Route 30, Amsterdam, died Sunday morning at
Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after being stricken.
Born Dec. 2, 1949 in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of Aloyisus and
Josephine Grzebien Traskos. He moved to Amsterdam as a child and attended
St. Joseph's School. He was a 1968 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School.
Mr. Traskos entered the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He
was awarded the Conspicuous Service and the Vietnam Service medals. Mr.
Traskos attended the BOCES and Vo-Tec nursing program. He was employed
as a licensed practical nurse at the Montgomery County Infirmary, O.D.
Heck in Schenectady, and lastly at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, retiring
due to disability. He also volunteered for many years with the Greater
Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Mr. Traskos was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
He married the former Elizabeth Agosta on Dec. 13, 1976.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include a son, Kevin L.
Traskos Jr. of Amsterdam; three daughters, Stacey Traskos of Phoenix, Ariz.,
Gabriella Traskos of Perth and Anne Marie Traskos of Amsterdam; a twin
brother, Kenneth Traskos of Amsterdam; two additional brothers, William
Nehls of Tampa, Fla. and Butch Nehls of Orville, Ohio; four sisters, Wilma
Eyster and Lavinia Nehls, both of Orville, Ohio; Francine Oakes of Ocooie,
Fla., and Judy Nehls of Orlando, Fla.; one granddaughter and aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Rossi Funeral
Home, 11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. William E. Siiss officiating.
Cremation will take place at the Vale Crematory, Schenectady.

Patsy Ferrara
Patsy "Fife" Ferrara, 77, of Second Avenue, Gloversville, died Friday
at Nathan Littauer Hospital after being stricken at home.
Born in Gloversville, Mr. Ferrara was a lifelong area resident. He attended
Gloversville schools.
He was a sheetmetal worker at the former Cooper Metal Fabricating Co.
and later was employed as a machinist at the Knolls Atomic Power Lab in
Niskayuna, retiring in 1977.
Mr. Ferrara was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, the Gloversville
Knights of Columbus and the Catholic War Veterans and its bowling team.
He also was a volunteer for the American Heart Association in the Gloversville-Johnstown
area and was active in the General Electric Social Club.
Mr. Ferrara was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include a brother, Rufus Ferrara of Cohoes, and a sister,
Rose Ricci of Gloversville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the John W.
Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville, followed by a Mass
of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Joseph Riccio
Joseph Louis Riccio Sr., 64, of Highland Terrace, Gloversville, died
Saturday at Basset Hospital in Cooperstown after being stricken while hunting.
Mr. Riccio was born and educated in Gloversville, where he lived most
of his life.
He was a leather worker at several area leather companies and later
was an electrician for the former Karg Brothers Tannery, where he was employed
for several years until retiring in 1987.
Mr. Riccio was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1961.
He married Claytha "Kitty" Riccio on Aug. 21, 1954.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Joseph Riccio Jr.
and Steven Riccio, both of Gloversville; a daughter, Cindy Mason of Gloversville;
two brothers, Donald Riccio and Frank Riccio, both of Gloversville; a sister,
Louise Sweet of Gloversville; and six grandchildren.
A prayer service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hollenbeck
Funeral Home, 4 Second Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at
11 at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Dominic "Doc" Ferrara
Dominic Ferrara, 83, of Trackside 4, Johnstown, formerly of Gloversville,
died Friday at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Gloversville, Mr. Ferrara moved with his family to Italy at
the age of 9 months and returned to this country when he was 16 years old.
He had lived at Trackside 4 for the last several years.
Mr. Ferrara was employed by the former G. Levor as a leather worker
until the company closed. Most recently, he worked in the same capacity
for Wood and Hyde until retiring in 1979.
He was a member off St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church.
Mr. Ferrara was an umpire for the Gloversville Little League and the
Gloversville Slow Pitch League and bowled with the Industrial League.
He was an active member of the Amalgamated Leather Workers Union.
He married Katherine Renda Ferrara on June 6, 1937.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Richard D. Ferrara
of Fulton; two daughters, Kathryn Garno of Davenport, Fla. and Rosanne
Melita of Johnstown; four brothers, Angelo Ferrara, Tammaro Ferraro, Philip
Ferrara and Frank Ferrara, all of Italy; a sister, Filomena Ottuso of Naples,
Italy; eight grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 9 a.m. today at the John W. Finocan
Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., and at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel
Church.
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.

Hazel Weingates
Hazel M. Weingates, 80, formerly of Herkimer and Fort Plain, died Sunday
at the Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Facility. in Amsterdam.
Born April 12, 1916 in Chadwicks, she was the daughter of Frank and
Elizabeth Waldman Carroll. She was a graduate of Sauquoit Valley High School
in 1934, and later graduated from the Utica School of Commerce.
At one time she was employed at the Little Falls city clerks office,
and later was secretary and intake manager of Catholic Charities Kateri
Thrift Shop in Dolgeville.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Mohawk.
She married Erwin T. Weingates on March 2, 1946 in Clayville. He died
April 6, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Rockwell of Fort Plain; two sons,
Theodore Weingates of Fort Plain and Thomas Weingates, stationed with the
U.S. Air Force in New Mexico; a sister, Ethel Cruez of Phoenix, Ariz.;
three brothers, Frank Carroll of Sauquoit; William Carroll of New Hartford,
and Leslie Carroll of Chadwicks; 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Graves-Applegate-Day
Funeral Home, 48 E. Main St., Mohawk, and at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament
Church Mohawk, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the
Rev. James Steuer.
Interment will be in Mohawk Cemetery.

Julia Cudmore
Mrs. Julia Cook Cudmore, 82, of the Wilkinson Residential Health Care
Facility and formerly of the New Amsterdam Apartments, died Sunday at Amsterdam
Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
Born Dec. 3, 1913 in Randall, she was the daughter of Yates and Margaret
Wright Cook. She moved to Forbes Street in Amsterdam in 1916. She was a
graduate of Amsterdam High School and attended the State Teachers College
in Albany.
She lived on Peter Lane for 30 years.
Mrs. Cudmore was first employed at the Chalmers Knitting Mill and at
the former Montgomery County Tuberculosis Sanitarium on Swart Hill Road.
She was a sewing teacher and salesperson at the Singer Sewing Machine
Co. store and was last employed as an order clerk at Mohasco Industries
until her retirement in 1978.
Mrs. Cudmore was a member of the Amsterdam United Methodist Church.
She married Clarence H. Cudmore on April 21, 1934. He died May 11, 1994.
Survivors include a son, Bob Cudmore of Glenville, a daughter, Arlene
Cudmore of Herkimer; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Betz
Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Cal Briggs-Harris
officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Shirley Roberts
Miss Shirley K. Roberts of Route 67, Johnstown, died Saturday at St.
Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness.
Born in Rochester, Miss Roberts was a graduate of West High School in
Rochester and St. John Fisher University, where she received a nursing
degree. Miss Roberts earned a degree in business and management from the
Rochester Institute of Technology.
For many years, she was employed as a manager for Taylor Instruments
in Rochester and later worked as a licensed real estate agent for Coldwell
Banker.
In 1989, Miss Roberts moved to Mayfield and opened Remember When, an
antiques shop that later closed. Most recently, she operated the Just By
Chance antiques shop at the Hillcrest House Antique Mall in Fultonville.
She was a member of the Mayfield Historical Society and Sacred Heart
Church in Gloversville.
Survivors include a daughter, Coral Roberts of Johnstown; a son, Emmett
Roberts of Johnstown; a brother, William Belding of Rochester; three grandchildren
and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the A.G. Cole
Funeral Home, 215 E. Main St., Johnstown. Burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery.

Gladys Nestle
Miss Gladys Amelia Nestle, 87, formerly of 40 Phillips Ave., Canajoharie,
died Sunday at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home, where she had lived for
the past three years. She also was a former resident of East Main Street
in Nelliston.
Born Nov. 18, 1908 in Canajoharie, she was the daughter of Edgar and
Lilla Mae Crane Nestle. She was educated in Canajoharie and was a lifelong
area resident.
Miss Nestle worked on the family farm for eight years and later received
a degree as a licensed practical nurse.
Miss Nestle was a private duty nursing for 58 years.
She was a member of the Fort Plain Methodist Church.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Lenz &
Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego St. with the Rev. Wayne Cole officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.
