Gerardo Giuseppe Loffredo, 5, of Fowler Street, Hagaman, died Wednesday
at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J.
He was born June 19, 1991, in Niskayuna, the son of Antonio and Gaetana
"Tina" Speranza Loffredo. He attended St. Mary's Institute in Amsterdam
and for the past three weeks had attended St. Francis Cabrini School in
Piscataway, N.J.
He was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include a brother, Luciano M.
Loffredo, also of Hagaman; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Giuseppe
Speranza of Amsterdam; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gerardo Loffredo
of Salerno, Italy; maternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vito Cutri
of Pisciotta, Italy; three uncles, Vito and Antonio Speranza of Amsterdam
and Francesco Loffredo of Salerno, Italy.
Funeral services are 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11
Mohawk Place, Amsterdam, followed at 9 a.m. by a Mass of the Angels at
St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church.
Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Amsterdam.
Calling hours are 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mary Crane
Mary E. Crane, 95, of Montgomery Meadows Residential Health Care Facility,
formerly of Hickory Hill Road, Fort Plain, died Thursday at the nursing
home after a long illness.
She was born in the Town of Glen July 13, 1901, the daughter of Lewis
B. and Cora M. Barlow Crane. She was a lifelong area resident.
She helped her brother, Frank Crane, operate a dairy farm in Fort Plain
for more than 40 years, and also worked at the Beech-Nut Corp. in Canajoharie
for many years, retiring several years ago.
Miss Crane attended Salem United Methodist Church in Stone Arabia.
No known relatives survive.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Gray, Hotaling & Smith
Funeral Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Wayne Cole officiating.
Burial is in Fort Plain Cemetery.
A calling hour will precede the service Monday, beginning at 10 a.m.

Edward Carpenter
Edward M. Carpenter, 81, former resident of the Park Hill Adult Home,
Grove Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at the Quabbin Valley Health Care
Center in Athol, Mass., after being a patient there since October 1991.
Born Jan. 2, 1915, in Amsterdam, he was the son of Arthur B. and Mae
McBurney Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam. He graduated from
Wilbur H. Lynch High School and Union College in Schenectady. In the 1930
and '40s he played trumpet for the Hal Kemp Big Band.
He was an accountant for the state Department of Taxation and Finance
in Albany. He also owned and operated the former Carpenter Hardware Store
on Market Street, Amsterdam, until retiring in 1971.
Mr. Carpenter was a member of St. Ann's Episcopal Church, Amsterdam.
Survivors include two cousins, Ann McBurney Underwood of Johnstown and
Kay Charles of Gloversville.
Private funeral services are at the convenience of the family at the
Betz Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, where the Office
for the Burial of the Dead will be read by the Rev. Christopher Smith,
rector of St. Ann's Episcopal Church.
Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Beulah Gage
Beulah M. Gage of Highland Avenue, Fort Johnson, died Friday at St.
Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
She was born Dec. 18,1907, in Fort Johnson. She was educated locally
and was a graduate of the School of Commerce.
Mrs. Gage was employed at Gloversville Knitting Mill and the United
Methodist Church on Golf Course Road, of which she was also a member.
Survivors include a daughter, Fern Weeden of North Carolina; a sister
Orilla Paquin of Fort Johnson; two grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Mrs. Gage has donated her remains to the Albany Medical College Anatomical
Gift Program.
A memorial service is planned at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the First Reformed
Church, corner of Arch and Center streets, Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Society for the Prevention
of Cruelty to Animals, Amsterdam.
Thomas Pasquel
Thomas E. Pasquel, 78, formerly of Esperance, died Thursday in Arizona,
where he lived for the past six weeks.
Born in Yonkers, he was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member
of the 803rd aviation battalion in the Philippines for six months under
combat conditions and spent four years listed as a POW/MIA in Japan.
He was also a charter member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22.
Mr. Pasquel was a truck driver in the moving business until retiring.
Survivors include a step-son, Charles Castellano; three sisters, Margaret
Margaritondo, Eleanor Cusumano and Irene Carroll; a brother, Robert Pasquel;
two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
at St. Daniel the Prophet Catholic Church, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Arrangements are by the Messinger Mortuary & Chapel, Scottsdale,
Ariz.
Victoria DiCaprio
Victoria Maria Quini DiCaprio, 77, of Essex Street, Amsterdam, died
Friday at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in Amsterdam, the daughter of James and Angelina Pietrandrea
Quini. She was a graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School and received a
bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from the State University of New
York at Albany.
She was employed by General Electric and retired as manager of computer
systems. She was formerly an adjunct professor at Schenectady County Community
College.
Mrs. DiCaprio was a communicant of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church,
a member of Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and of G.E. Elfun. She
served as a board member at both Amsterdam Memorial Hospital and the Sanford
Home for Elderly Women.
Her husband, Alphonse A. DiCaprio, died April 8, 1994.
Survivors include a sister, Ann Wallin of Amsterdam; two brothers, Julio
and Joseph Quini, both of Amsterdam; several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at
Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church, Amsterdam.
Interment will be in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Amsterdam Free Library or
to Hospice of Amsterdam, 40 Guy Park Ave.

George Dicks
George Edward Dicks, 84, of Canal Street, Fort Plain, died Friday evening
at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a brief illness.
He was born in St. Johnsville Jan. 28, 1912, the son of Isaac and Lillian
Shepard Dicks. Mr. Dicks was a 1930 graduate of Fort Plain High School
and a lifelong area resident.
He was employed as a toll and die maker and as a machinist at Beech-Nut
Packing Co. in Canajoharie for more than 40 years, retiring in 1977.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was married to Mildred Z. Knapp for 60 years. She died Jan. 7.
Survivors include a son, Robert A. Dicks Sr. of Whitesboro; a sister,
Elsie Dicks of Syracuse; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; several
nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral is 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral
Home, 34 Center St., Fort Plain, with the Rev. Jeff Thibodeau officiating.
Burial will be in Fort Plain Cemetery.

Anna Miles
Anna Miles, 83, formerly of Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, died Saturday
at Montgomery Meadows.
She was born May 6, 1913, in Amsterdam, the daughter of James and Mary
Miklonis Barkevich. She attended Amsterdam schools and was a lifelong Amsterdam
resident.
Mrs. Miles was a self-employed seamstress.
She was married to Clayton Miles. He died in February 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Morales of Amsterdam; a brother,
William Barkevich of Amsterdam; a sister, Frances Nolan of Amsterdam; four
grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces
and nephews.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rossi Funeral Home, 11 Mohawk
Place, Amsterdam, with the Rev. Joseph Grabys officiating.
Burial will be in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Stella Podolski
Stella A. Szymczak Podolski, 76, of Witbeck Drive, Glenville, died suddenly
at her home Sunday after being stricken.
Born Feb. 6, 1920 in Galway, she was the daughter of Adam and Sophia
Grefkowicz Szymczak. Mrs. Podolski had lived in Glenville for nearly 50
years. She was a graduate of Galway High School.
She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Glenville
and the Rosary Altar Society of the church.
Mrs. Podolski had worked as an election inspector for the East Glenville
district for 18 years.
A longtime member of the Immaculate Conception Quilting Group, she was
also a member of the Leisure Club of Scotia. Most recently she had worked
as a volunteer for the Burnt Hills School Library.
She married Stanley W. Podolski on Oct. 20, 1946.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Janice
Weisen of Sterling, Va. and Joyce King of Montoursville, Pa.; a sister,
Natalie Jankowski of Broadalbin; a brother, Stanley Szymczak of Burnt Hills;
and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Glenville
Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, followed at 10 a.m. by a Mass of Christian
Burial at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 400 Saratoga Road, E.
Glenville. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Galway.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

James Bennett
James G. Bennett, 85, of 29 W. Main St., Mayfield, died Sunday at Nathan
Littauer Hospital, Gloversville, following a long illness.
Born Oct. 23, 1911 in Gloversville, he was the son of Fred I. and Lucy
Sleppy Bennett.
He resided in Gloversville most of his life and lived in Mayfield the
past 20 years. Mr. Bennett served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was employed as a construction worker with the Schenectady Union
Local for several years, retiring in 1973.
Mr. Bennett is a former member of the North Main Street United Methodist
Church in Gloversville.
He married Verna Alter on Dec. 24, 1956.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Joanne Bennett
of Tucson, Ariz., and Penny Lynn Bennett of Mayfield; a sister, Lillian
Brayton of Orlando, Fla.; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Walrath
& Bushouer Funeral Home, Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the
Rev. Susan Clunn, pastor of the North Main St., United Methodist Church
officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.

Beverly Brooks
Beverly Brooks Shadick, 69, of Coxsackie, died Saturday at the Albany
Memorial Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam, she had lived in Albany for many years before moving
to Coxsackie in 1991. She was employed in the traffic division for the
City of Albany for several years, retiring in 1990.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna P. Shadick of Coxsackie, Sharon
L. Shadick of Albany and Michelle L. Hernandez of Selkirk; a son, Charles
Shadick III of Albany; a sister, Doris M. Iannotti of Broadalbin; two brothers,
Kenneth L. Brooks of Rensselaer and Thomas M. Brooks of Pattersonville;
10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by
a daughter, Janene L. Trianni.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Reilly
& Son Funeral Home, 1200 Central Ave., Colonie. Interment will be in
Memory's Garden in Colonie.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brittany Kellogg
Brittany Alisa Christina Kellogg, 3 months old, infant daughter of Jennifer
Kellogg and Greg Hollister, of 38 Northampton Road, Amsterdam, died Saturday
at St. Mary's Hospital.
She was born Aug. 22 in Amsterdam.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her maternal grandparents,
George and Susan Mattas Kellogg III, maternal great-grandparents, Marvin
and Freda Brooker Austin of Vail Mills, and Josephine Jobes Kellogg of
Amsterdam; paternal grandparents Greg Hollister of Fort Hunter and Christina
Becker Hollister of Amsterdam; her paternal great-grandparents, Hauser
and Helen Hunt Becker off Amsterdam; and also several aunts, uncles and
cousins.
A prayer service will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Betz Funeral
Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, with the Rev. Victor Polito officiating.
Burial will be in the spring at the Green Hill Cemetery, Amsterdam.

Mrs. Anna Miles, 83, formerly of Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, died Saturday
at Montgomery Meadows.
Born May 6, 1913 in Amsterdam, she was a daughter of James and Mary

Ida Sidlauskas
Ida Sidlauskas (Schell) of Lincoln Avenue, Amsterdam, died Sunday evening
at the Montgomery Meadows after a long illness.
Born and educated in Amsterdam, she was employed by Adirondack Knitting
before her retirement.
She was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic parish.
She is survived by two sisters, Emily Sidlauskas (Schell) and Edna Luzinas,
both of Amsterdam; two brothers, Alfred Schell of Amsterdam and Ben Schell
of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours.
Interment is in St. Casimir's Cemetery.

Frank Sinda
Frank Sinda, 80, of Clark Avenue, Amsterdam, died Sunday at Albany Veterans
Hospital.
Born Jan. 25, 1916 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Joseph Sinda and
Anna Janusz.
Mr. Sinda was employed as a carpet inspector for Bigelow Sanford Carpet
Mills and later worked at Ward Products.
He was a 1934 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam.
Mr. Sinda was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was of the Catholic faith, and a member of the Church of St. John
the Baptist. He was also a member of former St. John's Club.
Survivors include a brother, Robert J. Sinda of Amsterdam; a sister,
Sadie Adams of Albuquerque, N.M.; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Guzielek-Pomykaj
Funeral Home, followed by a 9 a.m. service at the church.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home.

Rev. William Knorr
The Rev. William M. Knorr, 85, of Reed Street, Northville, died Saturday
at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam after a long illness.
Born in Shamokin, Pa., the Rev. Knorr was a graduate of Shamokin High
School and the Practical Bible Training School in Johnson City in 1935.
He served as a pastor in Maryland, South Valley and Unadilla, all in
Otsego County; Perth, Fort Plain, Sherburne, Vestal and Cranberry Creek.
He also served on the staffs of Piedmont Bible College in Winston Salem,
N.C., and the Practical Bible Training School.
He was a resident of Northville since 1980, when he retired, and was
for many years an interim pastor at area churches.
He married Mae Coon Knorr on Sept. 1, 1934.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Sterling Knorr of
Mebane, N.C.; a daughter, Sylvia Brooks of Northville; a brother, Keith
Knorr of Dansville, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Baptist Church
of Northville. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Otego, in the spring.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Northville Funeral
Home, 401 Bridge St.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Church of Northville
Missionary Fund.
Jean Gillis
Mrs. Jean Stanton Gillis, 76, of Parsonage Pines Senior Housing, Schoharie,
died Saturday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany after being stricken at
home.
Born in Esperance, Mrs. Gillis lived there until moving to Georgia in
1982. She had been a Schoharie resident since 1987. She was a graduate
of Delanson High School.
Mrs. Gillis was employed as a clerk at the Esperance post office for
several years and later was a clerk at the state Department of Taxation
and Finance in Albany until retiring in 1972.
She was a former member of the Esperance Volunteer Fire Department Ladies
Auxiliary.
Her husband, Charles B. Stanton Sr. died Nov. 24, 1971.
Survivors include two sons, Charles "Tinker" Stanton of Esperance and
Gerald "Jake" Stanton of Latham; two daughters, Bonnie Jean Regeles of
Lethi Springs, Ga., and Beverly Brodie of Eatons Corners, a sister, Rita
Byrne of Johnstown; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A service is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the White-Van Buren Funeral
Home, 1779 Main St., Delanson. Burial will be in the spring in Esperance
Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rose Petrosino
Mrs. Rose Petrosino, 84, of Guilderland, died Saturday at Albany Memorial
Hospice.
Born in Amsterdam, Mrs. Petrosino lived most of her life in the Capital
District.
She was married to Alphonso S. Petrosino until his death.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary G. Rockenstyre of Schenectady; a
son, Joseph J. Petrosino of South Conway, S.C.; two brothers, Frank Scafidi
and Thomas Scafidi; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at
the Church of Christ the King. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Ave., Albany.

Mrs. Ruth L. Murphy, 76, formerly of Stewart Street, Amsterdam, died
Sunday evening at the Mount Loretto Nursing Home.
