Raymond E. Cole, 54, of 29 1/2 Orchard St., Gloversville, died Thursday
at Nathan Littauer Hospital after a long illness.
Born Aug. 12, 1942 in Gloversville, he was the son of Raymond B. and
Betty V. Maxwel Cole.
Mr. Cole was a lifelong resident of Gloversville and Bleecker area and
was educated in Gloversville schools.
He was manager of the former White-Modell department store in Johnstown
and also worked at the former Shaffell Tanning Co. in Gloversville. For
many years, he was a self-employed carpenter until recently.
Mr. Cole was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gloversville.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond Cole Jr. and Jack Cole, both of
Gloversville; a brother, Clifton Cole of Bleecker; two sisters, Barbara
Sweet of Bleecker and Sally Lighthall of Fort Hunter; his grandmother,
Noreen Hood of Gloversville; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews,
and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Walrath
& Bushouer Funeral home Inc. 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the
Rev. Paul Rohrbacher officiating. Cremation will be at Parkview Crematory
in Schenectady.
Calling hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mary Zacharkiw
Mary Zacharkiw, 71, of West Main Street, Amsterdam, died Thursday at
Amsterdam Memorial Hospital.
Born April 15, 1925 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of John and Stella
Dygos Zacharkiw. She was a lifelong area resident and was educated locally.
Ms. Zacharkiw was at one time employed by Collette Manufacturing Co.
and later for Consolidated Novelty until retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Church.
Survivors include two brothers, William Zacharkiw of Kimberly, Wis.,
and Paul Zacharkiw of Amsterdam; her companion, Chester Kowalczyk and nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Church.
Arrangements are by the Amsterdam Funeral Chapel, 13 Belmont Place,
Amsterdam.
Anna M. Totzeck
Anna M. Totzeck, 91, of 306 Florida Ave., Amsterdam, died Friday afternoon
at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
Born March 3, 1906 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Arthur and
Kathryn Knapp Filbeck. She was a life-long area resident.
Mrs. Totzeck attended local schools.
She was a homemaker and a member and past secretary of the Fort Johnson
Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Totzeck was of the Protestant faith.
She was married Nov. 8, 1930 to William P. Totzeck, who died Sept. 18,
1982.
Survivors include two sons, William R. Totzeck and John L. Totzeck,
both of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one daughter, Ann Nabors of Amsterdam; a
sister, Billie Jo Sliva of Amsterdam; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Betz Funeral Home
Inc., 121 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
Services will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will take place at Fairview Cometary in Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Greater Amsterdam
Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Joseph Jasewicz
Joseph Jasewicz, 76, of Route 30 in the town of Perth, died Friday at
the Fulton County Infirmary.
Mr. Jasewicz was born Oct. 2, 1920 in Little Falls, the son of Victor
and Elsie Piszkin Jasewicz. He attended school in Little Falls.
He was employed as a handyman and gardener in the Little Falls area
for many years. He moved to the Amsterdam area in 1979 where he had since
resided.
Mr. Jasewicz was a communicant of St. Casimir's Roman Catholic parish
in Amsterdam.
Survivors include four brothers, William E. Jasewicz of Perth, and Albert,
Victor and Stanley Jasewicz, all of Little Falls; five sisters, Helen Korona
of Amsterdam, Frances Hooks of Findlay, Ohio, Anne Willman, and Teresa
Snells, and Mary Jasewicz, all of Little Falls; and many nieces, nephews
and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Rossi Funeral Home,
11 Mohawk Place, Amsterdam.
Services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home,
followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John The Baptist Roman Catholic
Church. Internment will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Little Falls.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Casimir's Parish Memorial
Fund.
Ethel Putnam
Ethel M. Putnam, 92, formerly of Moyer Street, Canajoharie, died Saturday
at the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home in Amsterdam after a long illness.
She was born in the town of Canajoharie on May 24, 1904, the daughter
of Vernon J. and Bertha Shults Van Wie. She graduated from the Canajoharie
High School and later graduated from the Amsterdam City Hospital School
of Nursing in 1926. She completed her registered nurse requirements at
the New York Nursery and Child's Hospital in New York City.
Mrs. Putnam was a private duty nurse for many local doctors and worked
for the state of New York as a public health nurse. She was a greeter at
the Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home for 35 years.
She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile for more
than 50 years.
Mrs. Putnam was a member of the Amsterdam City Hospital Alumni Association
and was a member of the Canajoharie-Fort Plain Garden Club, the Republican
Committee, the Order of the Eastern Star, Tekakwitha Chapter and a past
member of the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service in Canajoharie. She
was a member of the Canajoharie Reformed Church.
She was married June 1, 1927 to Lloyd Putnam, who died August 27, 1967.
Mrs. Putnam was also predeceased by a daughter, Betty Lou Putnam in
1930, a step-daughter, Helen Putnam Ede in 1988 and a sister, Marion Fettinger
in 1992.
Survivors include a nephew, Edward J. Fettinger of Fort Plain; a niece,
Lois M. Fettinger of Canajoharie; two great nephews, Mark E. Fettinger
and Eric T. Fettinger, both of Gloversville; and a great-niece, Lisa A.
Pezzola of Voorheesville: and many great-great-nieces and one great-great
nephew.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Houghtaling and
Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego St., Canajoharie.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel in the Houghtaling
and Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Kathy Jo Blaske officiating.
Burial will follow in the Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.

Margaret Wessell
Margaret S. Wessell, 94, of the Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville
died Saturday after a long illness.
Mrs. Wessell was born April 1, 1903 in the town of Northampton and was
the daughter of William and Lydia Osborne Stark. She was a life-long resident
of Gloversville and a graduate of the former Gloversville Business School.
Mrs. Wessell was a secretary at the former Daniel Hayes Company for
many years and also at the former Fulton County Tuberculosis and Health
Association. She retired as a secretary from the former Geisler Insurance
Agency in Gloversville.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gloversville and a member
of its Friendly Endeavor class.
Mrs. Wessell was married to Harold H. Wessell on Sept. 17, 1925. He
died June 22, 1984.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews, among them: Josephine
Shiebler of Wrentham, Mass.; and William Stark of Owings Mills, Maryland
as well as several cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother, George Stark, and two sisters, Elizabeth
Stark Nagel and Caroline Stark.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Walrath and Bushouer Funeral
Home, 51 Front St., Gloversville.
Services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Herbert Johnson officiating.
Burial will be at the Prospect Hill Cometary, Gloversville.

Carmela Caddell
Carmela J. Caddell, 82, of Romeyn Avenue, Amsterdam, died Saturday morning
at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Amsterdam on July 16, 1914, she was the daughter of Annuziato
"James" and Maria St. Angelo LaBate. Mrs. Caddell was educated in the Amsterdam
school system.
She was employed as a glove maker at the former Bacmo and Grandoe Glove
Company in Gloversville.
Mrs. Caddell was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church and
also attended St. Mary's Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of St. Anthony's
Auxiliary of St. Michael's Church.
She married James W. Caddell on Jan. 28, 1951. He died Feb. 15, 1976.
Survivors include a son, Andrew A. Caddell of Amsterdam; a daughter MaryAnne
Caddell Scheckton of Amsterdam; six brothers, Anthony J. LaBate, Harry
T. LaBate, Samuel C. LaBate, Peter C. LaBate and Jacob M. LaBate, all of
Amsterdam, and Joseph P. LaBate of Herkimer; two sisters, Mary LaBate and
Madeline Van Allen, both of Amsterdam; five grandchildren; and several
nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Mrs. Caddell was predeceased by two brothers, John F. LaBate and Michael
A. LaBate.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Riley Mortuary,
110 Division St., Amsterdam.
Funeral services will take place 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home
and at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial
will be celebrated. Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery.

Respiratory and Therapy Department, St. Mary's Hospital, 427 Guy Park Avenue,

Loretta Christman
Mrs. Loretta Christman, 66, of Woods Road, Ephratah, died Sunday at
her home after a long illness.
Born in Ephratah, Mrs. Christman was a 1947 graduate of Johnstown High
School.
She was employed at General Telephone & Electronics until 1956,
when she became owner and manager of C&C Enterprises, positions she
held until the time of her death.
Mrs. Christman was a member of the former Ephratah Methodist Church,
a lifetime member of the Ephratah Rod and Gun Club, a former member of
the Ladies Auxiliary of the Ephratah Volunteer Fire Department and a 4-H
leader.
She married Richard Christman on Nov. 12, 1955. He died June 6, 1989.
Mrs. Christman is survived by two daughters, Laurie A. Carpenter and
Victorian E. Dutcher, both of Ephratah; two sons, Michael R. Christman
and Timothy L. Christman, both of Ephratah; a sister, Mary Ann Ahrens of
Ephratah; two brothers, Vernon Duesler Jr. of Ephratah and John A. Duesler
of Oppenheim; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Ephratah
Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.

or to the Ambulance Service of Fulton County.

Mrs. Margaret S. Wessell, 94, of Gloversville, died at the Nathan Littauer
Hospital Nursing Home after a long illness.

Lucius Talarico
Lucius Talarico, 71, of Yost Street, Johnstown, died Saturday at his
home after a long illness.
Mr. Talarico was born in Utica and graduated from Gloversville schools.
He worked for the Tryon School from 1962 to 1983.
In 1963, he was elected alderman of the 4th Ward and also served as
alderman at large for six terms until 1995.
Mr. Talarico was treasurer of the former St. Cyril's Methodist Church,
a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnstown and a
member of the Johnstown Eagles, where he was a past president and secretary.
He was a 51-year member of American Legion Post 510 and a member of
the Johnstown Moose Lodge; the Disabled American Veterans; the Concordia
Singing Society of Fulton County; the Fulton County Highway Association;
the Sampson World War II Navy Veterans; the board of directors of the Shirley
Luck Senior Citizens Center; Civil Service Employees Association Local
925; and the advisory commission at Tryon School.
Mr. Talarico was also a member of the Fulton County Republican Club,
where he served as a committeeman from 1955 to 1997 and received the Hough
Award.
A World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served from 1944 to 1946.
He married Helen Sedivy Talarico on June 19, 1948.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Craig Talarico of
Johnstown and three grandchildren.
A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian
Church. Burial will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Barter
& Donnan Funeral Home.

Sofia Christodulu
Sofia Christodulu, 89, of 182 Ulster Ave., Walden, a former Gloversville
resident, died Sunday at her daughter's home in Walden following a long
illness.
Born Oct. 15, 1907 in Buczacz, Ukraine, she was the daughter of Nicholas
and Paraska Pawlyshyn.
She came to Gloversville from the Ukraine in 1921 and resided with her
daughter in Walden for the past three years.
She was employed as a glove maker at Rubin Glove Co. and also at Mario
Papa & Sons in Gloversville. From 1950 to 1955 she and her husband
were the owners and operators of the Stewart's Ice Cream Store in Johnstown.
Mrs. Christodulu was a charter member of St. Theodoroi Greek Orthodox
Church in Gloversville.
She married Christes Christodulu on May 15, 1924. He died June 30, 1991.
Survivors include a son, George Christodulu of Gloversville; a daughter,
Anna Brooks of Walden, four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Walrath
& Bushouer Funeral Home Inc., 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, with the
Rev. Peter Doratsos of St. Theodoroi Greek Orthodox Church officiating.
Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.

Gertrude Ruck
Mrs. Gertrude S. Ruck, 80, of Highland Gardens Apartments, Amsterdam,
died Sunday at her home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Johnson-Lindsey Funeral
Home.
Clarence Schmid
Clarence T. Schmid, 89, of 1653 Main St., Pattersonville, died Saturday
afternoon at Montgomery Meadows in Amsterdam after a short illness.
Born June 18, 1907 in Pattersonville, he was the son of Christian and
Maude Fryer Schmid and was a lifelong area resident. He graduated in 1925
from the Woestina High School and was valedictorian of his class.
Mr. Schmid was employed by the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. in Schenectady
and Albany for 45 years retiring in 1972 as general foreman of the meter
and relay department in Albany.
His interest in the Altamont Fair began in 1949, when he was chairman
of the Fair Committee of the Scotch Church Grange. This first endeavor
was a blue ribbon for the grange. In 1968 he was elected as Tri-County
Fair Board representative for granges and an associate director and president
of the Altamont Fair Board.
Active in Grange activities for many years, Mr. Schmid is past Master
of Scotch Church and Schenectady County Pomona Granges, past deputy state
Grange Master of Schenectady County. He was a member of the Glenridge Grange
1544.
Mr. Schmid was a member of the Schenectady Rose Society and founder
of the Dusty Boots Riding Club of Rotterdam. He was also a charter member
of the Pattersonville Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Schmid was a member of the Woestina Reformed Church in Rotterdam
Junction and was an elder, lay preacher and at one time, a member of the
choir, Sunday School superintendent, and Sunday School teacher.
He married Alice Krutz on Aug. 28, 1929. She died March 21, 1996.
He is survived by four daughters, Gladys Weisheit and Nancy Dykeman,
both of Schenectady; Gwendolyn Coman and Eileen Schram of Amsterdam; a
brother, Arthur Schmid of Juson, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Woestina
Reformed Church, 1397 Main St., Rotterdam Junction, with the Rev. Donald
Vander Laan officiating. Burial will take place in Woestina Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Betz Funeral Home
Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam.
Memorial contributions may be made to Montgomery Meadows, Sandy Drive,
Amsterdam; the Woestina Reformed Church, 1397 Main St., Rotterdam Junction,

Taylor Wharry
Taylor Danielle Wharry, infant daughter of Roger Little and Darla Wharry,
both of Amsterdam, died at birth Saturday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Her maternal grandparents are Elizabeth Case and Rodney Wharry. Paternal
grandmother is Ruth Little, who all survive.
A service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Rossi Funeral
Home, 11 Mohawk Place. Burial will take place in Greenhill Cemetery.
A calling hour will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
