Richard J. Devendorf, 65, of Denver, Colo., formerly of Amsterdam, died
Wednesday at home of heart failure.
He was born Aug. 23, 1931 in Amsterdam.
Mr. Devendorf was employed by Stewart's Ice Cream Co.
He married Dolores Ann Heller June 27, 1964 in Point Pleasant, N.J.
Survivors include a son, Matthew Devendorf of Denver, Colo.; a daughter,
Katherine Devendorf of Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Eugene C. Devendorf
of Amsterdam, Charles Devendorf of Amherst, and Dave Devendorf o Hermitage,
Tenn.; a sister, Gretchen Harvell of Fairfield Colade, Tenn.
He was predeceased by a son, Edward "Ned" Devendorf.
Funeral services were conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Fairmount's Little
Ivy Chapel.
Burial was in Fort Logan National Cemetery.
Lester Hotaling
Lester M. Hotaling, 84, of Rural Grove Road, Sprakers, died Friday at
home after a long illness.
Born in Seward on Nov., 22, 1912, he was the son of Burdette and Ella
Mattice Hotaling.
Mr. Hotaling was educated in Seward and Cobleskill Schools. He was a
self employed farmer and for the last 10 years, he was a carpenter associated
with the former Amsterdam Carpentars Union.
He was a life member of the Rural Grove Volunteer Fire Department .
His wife, Mary E. Weidman, whom he married Nov. 20, 1937, died in 1984.
Survivors includetwo sons, Lester Martin Hotaling of Wells Bridge and
Donald Hotaling of Rural Grove; three daughters, Janice Burns of Fultonville,
Ella Mae Bramer of Canajoharie and Jane Hotaling of Rural Grove; two brothers,
Walter Hotaling of Sharon Springs and Burdette Hotaling of Cobleskill;
five sisters Nellie Anderson of Deltona, Fla., Marion Marshall of Cobleskill,
Shirley Holmes of Schenectady, Violet Vrooman of Cobleskill, Daisy Miller
of Riverview, Fla.; and several grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Jackson &
Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, with the Rev. R.W. Williams
officiating.
Burial will be at Maple Avenue cemetery in Fultonville.

Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Corps. in care of the funeral home.
Marie Harris
Marie J. Harris, 67, of West Main Street, Cobleskill, formerly of Fonda,
died Thursday at home after being stricken.
Born Sept. 14, 1929 in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of Moses L. Harris
and Ruth Herrick Harris.
Miss Harris was a graduate of the former Knox School of Cooperstown
and then attended the University of Nebraska. She also graduated from the
Fisher College of Boston and finished her graduate work at New York University.
She was employed by the Kelly Temporary Service, Kelly Girls of Schenectady,
and did secretarial work at Union College. She then worked at General Electric
before retiring.
Miss Harris moved to Fonda in 1983 and then to Schoharie in 1992. She
had lived in Cobleskill since December 1996.
Survivors includer her mother, Ruth E. Harris of Fonda; a daughter,
Molly Gabel of Hampton Bays; two sisters, Virginia Yates of Fultonville
and Thelma Tarlow of Naples, Fla.; three brothers, Thomas Harris of Edenton,
N.C., Evans Harris of Abilene, Kan., and Benjamin Harris of Kentfield,
Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Private services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 86 Elm St., Cobleskill.
Joseph Nasadoski
Joseph L. Nasadoski, 86, of Bell Street, died Saturday morning at the
home of his daughter in Broadalbin.
Born Nov. 22, 1910 in Amsterdam, he was the son of Thomas and Amelia
Benosky Nasadoski. He attended local schools and was a lifelong area resident.
Mr. Nasadoski was employed by the former Olbrych's Dairy for 45 years.
Later, he worked for Nathan's Paper & Waste Co. before retiring in
1995.
He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. He also was a member
of various local bowling leagues.
Mr. Nasadoski married Clara Olbrych June 30, 1995. She died Jan. 4,
1990.
Survivors include a son, Jeffrey Nasadoski of Gloversville; a daughter,
Marcia Cooper of Broadalbin; three sisters, Leona Wick, Sally Krawieki
and Ann Juracka, all of Schenectady; four grandchildren, Stephen and Stephanie
Nasadoski of Gloversville, and Kristen and Scott Cooper of Broadalbin;
and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Jendrzejczak Funeral
Home, 200 Church St.
Services will be 8:15 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, followed at 9:15
a.m. by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church.
Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Carmen "Shorty" Persico
Carmen A. "Shorty" Persico, 87, formerly of 99 Center St., Amsterdam,
died Sunday at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility, where he
had lived for the past six years.
Born July 16, 1909 in Rotterdam Junction, he was the son of Felice and
Maria Antonia Martiello Persico. He moved to Amsterdam as a child and attended
local schools.
Mr. Persico was a World War II of the U.S. Army, where he served as
a sergeant and received the Asiatic/Pacific Campaign Medal.
He owned and operated Shorty's Tavern for 25 years, before retiring
in 1972.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a communicant of
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Her was also a member of the Holy Name
Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He married Philomena Morini Persico on March 3, 1946. She died Dec.
17, 1971.
Survivors include two sons, Felix Persico of Amsterdam and Anthony Persico
of Morton, Pa.; two daughters, Maria Cinquanti and Louise Godlewski, both
of Amsterdam; a sister, Libera "Libby" Nolan of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren
and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Betz
Funeral Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of
Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial
will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The
Holy Name Society of the church will meet at 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam
or the Adult Care Program at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care Facility.
Archie LaPorta Sr.
Archie E. LaPorta Sr., 78, formerly of 19 Minaville St., Amsterdam,
died Wednesday at the Columbia Fort Walton Beach Medical Center in Florida
after a short illness.
Born May 7, 1919 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, he was the son of Archangelo and
Mary Gallo LaPorta. He moved to Amsterdam as a small child and lived in
the area most of his life before moving to Florida in 1974.
He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, and participated in
the defense of Pearl Harbor during the attack by the Japanese. He also
participated in the liberation of the Philippines and in the campaigns
on New Guinea and Luzon. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry
Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Ribbon and
four battle stars for participation in four major campaigns.
Mr. LaPorta served to 25 years in the U.S. Civil Service, working at
the Naval Depot in Scotia, the Watervliet Arsenal and Eglin Air Force Base
in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. LaPorta was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
He married Joanne "Jennie" DeMaria LaPorta on Jan. 22, 1949. She died
Jan. 20, 1984.
Survivors include two sons, Archie LaPorta Jr. of Amsterdam and P. John
LaPorta of Westminster, Md.; three daughters, Emmie Sorell of Albany, Marie
LaPorta of San Diego and Christine Taylor of Fort Walton Beach; a brother,
Alfred LaPorta of Johnstown; two sisters, Mary Pastore of El Cajon, Calif.
and Elizabeth Ault of Amsterdam; eight grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
A prayer service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Betz Funeral
Home Inc., 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, the the Rev. Lawrence DEcker officiating,
Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with full military honors.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Sterling Holly
Sterling M. Holly, 64, of Gillen Terrace, Gloversville, died Sunday
at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
Born Sept. 21, 1932 in Gloversville, he was the son of Sterling and
Marian Lord Holly.
He was a 1950 graduate of Gloversville High School. He was employed
by the Boyd-Harman Finance Co. Inc. since 1955, and advanced to the presidency
of the firm.
Mr. Holly was active in the effort to gain community support for the
creation of Fulton-Montgomery Community College during the early 1960s.
He also served as an alderman in Gloversville and was a member of the Gloversville
Charter Committee.
Mr. Holly served as chairman of the Gloversville Urban Renewal Agency
in the late 1960s and early 1970s and helped with the formation of the
Ambulance Service of Fulton County.
He was president of the Gloversville Lions Club and a member and past
president of the Pinebrook Golf Club.
Mr. Holly was a longtime member and treasurer and president of the Board
of Directors at Nathan Littauer Hospital.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1954.
He married Barbara Coplon Holly on Aug. 18, 1957.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a sister, Janice Fuller of
Camillus; and a brother, Ronald Holly of Gloversville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity
Episcopal Church, Gloversville.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Nathan Littauer Hospital Foundation.

Annette Roose
Annette B. Roose. 85, of Crannel Hollow Road, Galway, died Sunday at
St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a brief illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1911 in Rochester, she was the daughter of Maurice P. and
Fannie L. Farr Cowles. She was educated in Rochester schools. She lived
in Gorham for 32 years, before moving to Olean and then to the Town of
Providence in 1989.
She owned and operated Roose's Restaurant in Gorham for 30 years.
She was a member of the the Broadalbin Baptist Church and also of the
Home Circle of the Providence Baptist Church. She was also involved in
Quaker workshops in the Albany area which sent thousands of knitted and
crocheted items to orphans in Romania.
Mrs. Roose was a member and past deputy district president of the Rebekah
Lodge in Gorham, and was later a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Galway.
She married William Roose on March 22, 1930. He died in 1976.
Survivors include a son, William Roose of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter,
Margaret Sowle of Galway; a sister, Lenna Coast of Olean; 10 grandchildren,
13 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Broadalbin
Baptist Church, on West Main Street, with the Rev. Matthew Collins officiating.
Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Halgas Funeral

Corps.
Domingo Lozada
Domingo Lozada, 75, of the New Amsterdam Apartments, died Sunday at
St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Santurce, Puerto Rico. He lived in New
York City before moving to Amsterdam in 1981.
He was employed for many years in the maintenance department at the
Park West Village Apartments in New York City, retiring in 1983. After
his retirement, he was employed by Operation Green Thumb and Centro Civico,
both in Amsterdam.
He was a member of the Spanish-American CLub, the Domino Club and the
Senior Citizens of the Hispanic community.
He was a communicant of the Church of St. Michael the Archangel.
He married Carmen Lozado in 1946. She died in 1983.
Survivors include six daughters, Carmen Fontan and Minerva Rivera, both
of the Bronx, Myrna Mendoza of Tribes Hill. Elizabeth Gonzalez of Amsterdam,
Marizol Izquierdo, of Pocono, Pa., and Graciela Ortiz of Johnstown; 23
grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 a.m. Thursday at the Betz Funeral
Home Inc, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9 a.m. at the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Burial will
be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 2
to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Jeffrey Shepard
Jeffrey C. Shepard, 38, of South Perry St., Johnstown, died Sunday at
home after a long illness.
Born in Amsterdam, he was the son of Robert C. and Marilyn Dean Filmer.
He was a 1976 graduate of Johnstown High School.
He was president of Shepard Oil Co.
He was president of the Johnstown Little League from 1990 to 1995, and
was also assistant district administrator of Little League District 12.
Mr. Shepard was a member of the Johnstown Moose Lodge and a former member
of the Johnstown Kiwanis Club.
He married Margaret Dikeman Shepard on June 16, 1979.
In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include two sons, Nicholas
Shepard and Steven Shepard, both of Johnstown; his step-mother, Janet Shepard
of Johnstown; a brother, Dean Shepard of Northville; a sister, Robin Anderson
of Durham, N.C.; and a step-brother, Brian Filmer of Orlando, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at the First United Methodist
Church, North William Street, Johnstown. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Fonda.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Barter
and Donnan Funeral Home, Main and Melcher streets, Johnstown.

Felix Zelinski
Felix Zelinski, 81, of 7 Cross St., St. Johnsville, died Tuesday at
Little Falls Hospital.
Born May 30, 1916 in Natrona, Pa., he was the son of Frank and Hedwig
Petrusiak Zelinski. He was educated in Dolgeville schools and lived most
of his life in the St. Johnsville area.
Mr. Zelinski was a carpenter for Local 120 in Utica until his retirment
in 1979.
He married Blanche Oathout on June 20, 1942.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Peter Zelinski of
St. Johnsville; a brother, Edward Zelinski of Little Falls; two sisters,
Anna Zelinski of Little Falls and Sophie Hoffman of St. Johnsville; and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Smith-Woody
& Enea Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St,. Johnsville, with the Rev. Russell
Camp, pastor of St. John's Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be
in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.

Albert Knezich
Albert D. Knezich, 73, of 127 Glen Ave., Amsterdam, died Tuesday at
the Stratton Veteran's Affairs Hospital in Albany.
Born March 7, 1924 in Broadalbin, he was the son of Joseph K. and Lucy
Bussanich Knezich. He was educated at St. Joseph's School.
He was employed as a machinist at the Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co.
Mr. Knezich was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with
the First Infantry Division that was also known as The Big Red One. He
particiapted in the Normandy Invasion and was awarded the Bronze Star and
the Purple Heart.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 55 and was
a former member of the Bigelow-Weavers Association.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and St. Joseph's
Church.
Survivors include two brothers, Edward A. Knezich of Amsterdam and Bernard
Knezich of Troy; three sisters, Jennie Davis, Lucy Vainauskas and Edith
Merendo, all of Amsterdam and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Riley
Mortuary Inc., 110 Division St., Amsterdam, followed by a Mass of Christian
Burial at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.Burial will be in
St. Mary's Cemetery, Fort Johnson.

Shirley Henze
Mrs. Shirley M. Henze, 76, of South Main Street, Gloversville, died
Monday at Ellis Hospital in schenectady after a long illness.
Born in Mayfield, she was a graduate of Gloversville High School.
She was employed as a sales clerk at Britt's department store, retiring
when the store closed in 1980.
She was a member of the Concordia Singing Society.
She married Fritz O. Henze on Aug. 31, 1940.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Fritz J. Henze
of Northville and Robert W. Henze of Gloversville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the John
W. Finocan Funeral Home, 13 Prospect Ave., Gloversville. Burial will be
in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Stanley Jones
Stanley P. Jones, 66, of Glen Wild Road, Middle Grove, died Monday at
Saratoga Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Middle Grove, he was a lifelong area resident and was a graduate
of Lowell University.
Mr. Jones was active in the National Guard, serving in Company L.
He was a deputy sheriff in Saratoga County for 28 years, retiring in
1996.
Mr. Jones also taught gardening, auto mechanics and carpentry to inmates
at the St. Joseph's School in the Saratoga County Jail.
He was married to Hilda Jones.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Wendy Tyler
of Broadalbin, Christine Hebert of Raleigh, n.C., and Jaquelynne Wilson
of Middle Grove; two sons, Jonathan Jones of Galway and Michael Jones of
Latham; his mother, Lillian Pearl Jones of Middle Grove; a brother, Wildred
Jones of Greenfield Center; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Funeral services may be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Armer Funeral
Home, 39 E. High St., Ballston Spa. Burial will be in Hutchings Cemetery
in Greenfield.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.
Elmer Cummings
Elmer Cummings, 72, of Gloversville, died Monday at his daughter's home
in Amsterdam.
Born in Sharon Springs, he was a 1943 graduate of Sharon Springs Central
School. He lived in Sharon Springs and Thibodaux, La., before moving to
Gloversville.
Many years ago, Mr. Cummings worked on the Kling Farm in Fonda and later
worked as grocery manager for Autobahn Supermarkets in Louisiana and A&P
in Canajoharie, retiring in 1987.
He was married to Bernice Johnston Cummings.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five sons, Darrin Cummings
of Fort Johnson, Dale Cumminsg of Syracuse, David Cummings of Sarasota,
Fla., Douglas Cummings of Nashville, and Dana Cummings of Tulsa, Okla.;
three daughters, Darlene Swartz, Debra Marrone and Denise Marrone, all
of Amsterdam; four brothers, Robert Cummings of Sharon Springs, Walter
Cummings of Sprakers, Francis Cummings of Rotterdam and Arthur Cummings
of Queensbury; four sisters, Elizabeth Tyler and Ruby Cummings, both of
Sharon Springs; Fanny Jones of Fort Plain and Bernice Garth of Mason City,
Iowa; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Lappeus
Funeral Home, 32 Park St. Sharon Springs. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery,
Leesville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Amsterdam.
Rose Carrello
Mrs. Rose Chirico Carrello, 72, of S. Marshall Street, Albany, died
Tuesday at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany.
Born in Amsterdam, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Raphael
Costello Chirico.
She was employed as a banquet waitress at the Italian American Community
Center in Albany for 10 years. She was a communicant of the Church of St.
James.
She was married to Louis S. Carrello.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter, Michele Veno
of Albany; and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Church
of St. James, 391 Delaware Ave., Albany. Interment will be at Our Lady
of Mount Carmel Cemetery in Amsterdam. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany,
315 S. Manning Blvd, Albany 12208.
