Mark and Frances Lear of Elmira, NY will mark their 50th wedding anniversary with an Open House for friends and family on November 22nd, 2003. Mr. Mark J. Lear and the former Frances V. Covey were married November 22, 1953 by the Rev. Robert F. Wilhelm at United Methodist Church in Chambers, NY. The couple have two children. They are Thomas C. Lear of Big Flats, NY and Kevin J. Lear of Elgin, IL. There are 2 grandchildren. Mr. Lear is retired from the Horseheads Bus Garage in Horseheads, NY and Mrs. Lear is retired from Corning Incorporated in Corning, NY.

Obituary of Frances Lear:

LEAR, Frances Vivian, Age 85, of Elmira, NY formerly of Horseheads, NY passed away on Tuesday April 28, 2009 at Bethany Manor. Frances was born April 26, 1924 in Towanda, PA the daughter of the late Claude and Iva Eddy Covey. She was also pre-deceased by several sisters and brothers. Frances married her husband, Mark J. Lear, on November 22, 1953 and they would have celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on November 22, 2009. Frances was a retired inspector with Corning Inc. retiring from the Big Flats, NY plant. She was a member of The Horseheads American Legion Post #442 Auxiliary and The Riverside American Legion Post #9223 Auxiliary. Frances was the president of the Chino, CA Marine Corps League Auxiliary. Mrs. Lear is survived by her husband Mark J. Lear; sons and daughter-in-law: Thomas C. & Michele Lear of Elmira, NY and Kevin J. Lear and Anthony Urso of McKinney, Texas; grandchildren: Emily Lear and MacKenzie Lear both of Elmira, NY; sisters: Barbara Finnerty of Gillett, PA and Isabel Johnson of Granville Summitt, PA; brother-in-law: Ray Lear of Horseheads, NY; sister-in-law: Betty Millhollen of Tyrone, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Lynch Funeral Home 318 West Broad Street Horseheads, NY on Thursday April 30, 2009 from 5-8 PM. Mrs. Lear's Funeral Services will be held on Friday May 1, 2009 at 10 AM at the Funeral Home with Brother Gabriel officiating. Frances will be laid to rest in Woodlawn National Cemetery in Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family. The family will provide their own flowers and those wishing may remember Mrs. Lear through memorials to The American Cancer Society 1316 College Avenue Elmira, NY 14901.

Obituary of Mark Lear:

LEAR, MARK JOSEPH, Age 83, of Horseheads, NY passed away on Sunday May 10, 2015. Mark was born on November 19, 1931 in Olean, NY the son of the late Joseph and Naomi Chase Lear. Mr. Lear was a Veteran of the Korean War serving his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. He fought in The Battle of The Inchon Province and The Chosin Reservoir and was a member of "The Chosin Few". He was a former member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #442, a member of American Legion Post # 154, and a member of E.J. Brewer Detachment of The U.S. Marine Corps League and member of the Military Honors Squad. Mark was pre-deceased by his first wife Frances V. Covey Lear on April 28, 2009. Mark was a school bus driver for the Horseheads Central School District. He married his second wife Ruth J. Sanford Crapo Lear on April 13, 2013. Mark is survived by his wife Ruth J. Sanford Crapo Lear; sons and daughter-in-law: Thomas C. & Michele Lear of Elmira, NY and Kevin J. Lear of Elmira, NY; granddaughters: Emily Lear and MacKenzie Lear; brother and sister-in-law: Ray & Marilyn Lear of Horseheads, NY; sister and brother-in-law: Betty & Richard Millhollen of Tyrone, NY; step-children: Barry & Robyn Crapo of Horseheads, NY, Brenda & John Resavage of Elmira, NY, Adam Crapo of Hollywood, Florida, and Hope & Larry Geohring of Ithaca, NY; several step-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of caring friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend Gravesite Funeral and Committal Services on Saturday May 16, 2015 at 10 AM at Woodlawn National Cemetery 1825 Davis Street Elmira, NY. Chaplain Mark Houseknecht will officiate. In lieu of flowers it was Mark's wish that he be remembered through memorials to the E.J. Brewer Detachment of The U.S. Marine Corps League P. O. Box 236 Horseheads, NY 14845.
