CARPENTER - 50TH

Gordon and Janice Carpenter of Southport, NY marked their 50th anniversary with a celebration at Hamilton Hall at Elmira College on October 16, 2004. Mr. Gordon Carpenter and the former Janice Newcomer were married October 6, 1954. The couple has 2 children: David Carpenter and Carol Cornacchio; and 3 grandchildren. Mr. Carpenter is retired from Kennedy Valve and Mrs. Carpenter is retired from Sears Roebuck.

Obituary of Gordon Carpenter:

Gordon V. Carpenter, Age 87, of Southport, NY passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Gordon was born April 6, 1929 in Elmira son of the late Norman & Fannie (Morgan) Carpenter. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954 and then continued his service in the US Army Reserves. Upon his return form the service he and the former Janice Newcomer were married on October 16, 1954 in Wellsburg, NY and enjoyed 61 years together. Gordon was retired from Kennedy Valve were he work in the foundry as a grinder. He was a member of the American Legion, Elks Club and the Society of the 15th Infantry and attended many of their events. In his spare time Gordon enjoyed traveling, camping on Seneca Lake, woodworking and spending time with his family. Surviving are his loving wife Janice N. Carpenter of Southport, son and daughter-in-law, David (Tammy) Carpenter of Southport, daughter and son-in-law, Carol (Patrick) Cornacchio of Elmira Heights, grandchildren, Nicole Cornacchio, Jessica Golden-Cornacchio and Kassandra Box all of Elmira, two great-grandchildren, Mark Anthony Cornacchio and Noah Patrick Golden, a sister, Shirley Pike of Big Flats, sister-in-law, Susan Carpenter of Eden, NY, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother Norman G. Carpenter. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday, September 27, 2016 from 2 to 5 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc. 279 Main Street, Wellsburg, NY. Gordon's funeral and committal service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 5:00 PM with Reverend Patrick Holder officiating and Military Honors accorded. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Ashland Cemetery, Wellsburg, NY.
