BERLEUE - 50TH

Richard and Gladys Berleue of Painted Post marked their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. Mr. Richard Berleue and the former Gladys Jepson were married December 20, 1952 in Elmira. The couple has 3 children. They are Debra J. (Joseph) Sonner of Corning, Kimber L. (Robert) Dugan of Flemington, NJ, and Gaylene A. Berleue of Painted Post. There are 8 grandchildren. Mr. Berleue is retired from the Town of Erwin Highway Department in Painted Post. Mrs. Berleue is retired from The Leader in Corning.

Richard Berleue's obituary:

Richard E. Berleue, 76, of Painted Post, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at Founders Pavilion in Corning. Dick was born in Penn Yan, NY, on August 7, 1935, the son of Harold Berleue and Julia Inscho. He married Gladys Jepson on December 20, 1952. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2006. Dick is survived by his three daughters: Debra (Joseph) Sonner of Caton, NY, Kimber (Robert) Dugan of Flemington, NJ, Gaylene Berleue of Corning, NY; his grandchildren: David (Erin) Sonner, Thomas (Bethany) Sonner, Maria (Michael) Bates, Karen Sonner, Timothy Dugan, Erin Dugan, Andrew Twist, Megan (Christopher) Copp; his great grandchildren: Jacob, Owen and Lucas Sonner, Owen Copp and Elijah Sonner. He is also survived by Charlotte Hugg, a wonderful companion that he truly cared for and loved and shared the last five years of his life with. Dick enjoyed going to casinos and he loved to hunt and fish. He treasured his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a handyman to all his friends and neighbors and took great pride in his home and garden. He was a Private First Class (military police) in the United States Marine Corps from March 30, 1954, to March 29, 1956. He was a rifle and pistol sharpshooter and received the National Defense Service Medal. Dad/Grampa/Great-Grampa/Papa - Thank you for being such a gift to us all. You were always there for us in countless ways with an open heart and knowing mind. By your teaching and guidance, through your heart and hands, we will continue to carry on your legacy together. You will truly be missed, but never forgotten. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 25th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 West Pulteney Street in Corning. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, October 26th at 11 am at the Victory Highway Wesleyan Church, Painted Post. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dick's honor to Hope Lodge, 1400 Winton Rd, Rochester, NY 14609.

Gladys Berleue's obituary:

Gladys Elvira Berleue age 72, of Michael's Way in Painted Post, NY died Thursday, March 9, 2006 at Corning Hospital after an extended illness. Gladys was born in Elmira, NY on May 28, 1933, the daughter of William and Alma (Carlson) Jepson. She married Richard E. Berleue on December 20, 1952 in Elmira. She retired from The Leader in Corning in 1990 where she had worked in classified advertising. She loved her grandchildren dearly and loved to watch them play sports. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, the New York Mets, and girls college basketball. She is survived by her husband Richard; three daughters, Debra (Joseph) Sonner of Corning, Kimber (Robert) Dugan of Flemington, NJ, and Gaylene Berleue of Painted Post; grandchildren, David (Erin), Thomas, Maria, and Karen Sonner, Timothy and Erin Dugan, Andrew and Megan Twist; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-4 PM at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning. Funeral Services will be on Monday at 11:00 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 149 W. William Street in Corning with Rev. Lynell AlJoe-Phurman officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge, 1400 Winton Road North, Rochester, NY 14609-5896.
