CAVANAUGH - 60TH

Edgar & Martina Cavanaugh of Elmira Heights, NY will mark their 60th wedding anniversary with a trip to NYC with their children & spouses, grandchildren & great-grandchildren for the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Mr. Edgar Cavanaugh and the former Martina Walsh were married September 11, 1943 by the Rev. Nicholas Gill at St. Francis Catholic Church in Mildred, PA. The couple have two children. They are Tina Lucarelli of Wilmington, DE & Joanne Riviello of Concord, NC. There are three grandchildren & three great-grandchildren. Mr. Cavanaugh retired from the Bendix Corporation in Elmira Heights. Mrs. Cavanaugh is a housewife.

Martina Cavanaugh's obituary:

Martina W. Cavanaugh, age 91, formerly of Elmira Heights, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2010 in Concord, NC. She was predeceased in 2004 by her loving husband Edgar Cavanaugh, with whom she shared 61 wonderful years; 5 brothers, along with their wives, and 2 brothers-in-law. Martina is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Martina and Wayne Lucarelli of Wilmington DE and Joanne and Mike Riviello of Concord, NC; grandchildren Julie (Glenn) Lucarelli Feldman, Corey (Denise) Layton, Tony Lucarelli, Michael Riviello; great-grandchildren, Ari Feldman, Cody, Chris and Sydney Layton, Gerhig Lucarelli, sister-in-law Ann Cavanaugh of Bellefonte, PA; along with several nieces and nephews. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Martina was an active volunteer with AARP, Meals on Wheels, and Second Place East. She worked for the Board of Elections for many years. Martina was a long time communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church. Visitation will be held at McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday October 29, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Casimir's Church at 11:30 a.m. Interment, with committal prayers, will take place at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, in memory of Martina.

Edgar Cavanaugh's obituary:

Edgar J. Cavanaugh, age 88 of Elmira Heights, passed away on Sunday, October 17, 2004 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. He was born on May 27, 1916 in Laporte, PA, the son of the late Thomas and Mary Cavanaugh. He was a communicant of St. Charles Borromeo Church, a very active and dedicated bingo worker, a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served three years, including the battle of Anzio, a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion and VFW, and retired from Bendix Corp. Edgar is survived by his wife, Martina Walsh Cavanaugh, with whom he celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on September 11, 2004; daughters and sons-in-law, Martina and Wayne Lucarelli of Wilmington, DE, and Joanne and Michael Riviello of Concord, NC; grandchildren, Julie Feldman, Corey Layton and Anthony Lucarelli; great-grandchildren, Christopher Layton, Cody Layton and Ari Feldman. Family and friends are invited to call at Ballard and Lindgren Funeral Home, 161 Oakwood Avenue on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 20 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Church. Burial will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery, where full military honors will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be sent in Edgar's memory to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13320-3049.
