William Edwin Jaynes & Alta (White) Jaynes marked their 61st wedding anniversary on July 19th, 2003. They have one son who is a Town Justice of Hector & his wife Linda whom they treasure as their own. They have 3 grandchildren, Scott, Kristina & Sean. Bill retired from the International Salt Co. as a Meter Technician & Alta from Cornell University as a Department Supervisor. They live in Reynoldsville, NY in the home they built.

Obituary of William Jaynes:

Jaynes, William (Bill) Edwin, Age 95, on January 1, 2017 Bill went to join the love of his life of 73 years, Alta (White) Jaynes. He was born on April 7, 1921 in Rathbone, NY. As a young boy, the family moved to Elmira and finally making their way to Schuyler County. On July 19, 1942 Bill married the girl of is dreams but soon after was sent to England where he proudly served his country in WWII as an Army Air Corp waist-gunner on a B-17 with the 351st bomber group, 100th bomber squadron. After returning home he had many jobs before being employed by International (AKZO) Salt for 30 yrs. as an outstanding meter man. After retiring from the Salt Plant, he was the caretaker of the Hector Union Cemetery for another 20 yrs. 26yrs. ago the Hector Township hired him to start up the recycling center at the Hector Town Barns. He held many positions in the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church with his wife. His real love besides family was raising and swapping horses. Bill was predeceased by his parents Raymond and Anna (Walker) Jaynes, his wife Alta Jaynes on January 12, 2016, his brothers Richard and Ralph and George Gary Jaynes, his sister Julia (Jaynes) Elkie and granddaughter, Kristina (Jaynes) Burke (surviving is husband Allan Burke of Reynoldsville) Bill is survived by his only child, Dale (Linda) Jaynes and grandsons, W. Scott Jaynes of Rochester and Sean (Jonilyn) Jaynes of Ballston Lake. Great-grandchildren are Kaylynn and Kristofer Burke and Jaeden and Isaac Jaynes. Brothers, Raymond Wesley (Rosemary) Jaynes and Timothy (Janet) Jaynes and Josephine Jaynes. Also, many nieces and nephews. Friends and family may call on the family on Saturday, January 21 at the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church on State Route 227 from 10am-12pm; with a Memorial Service for both Alta & Bill Jaynes to be held at the church at 12:00pm. The family will take care of flowers. Anyone that would like to donate may give to Reynoldsville United Methodist Church, 5092 State Rt. 227 Burdett, NY 14818 in memory of either or both Bill and/or Alta or a donation to a charity of one’s choice. Obituary of Alta Jaynes:

Alta W. Jaynes, Age 92, formerly of Burdett, NY, passed away on January 12, 2016 with her loving husband at her side at Elcor, where she has resided for the past several years. She is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, William E. Jaynes; son, Dale (Linda) Jaynes of Burdett; sister, Elna (Glen) Maphis of Paxton, IL; three grandchildren, Scott, Sean (Jonilyn) Jaynes, and Kristina (Allan) Burke; four great-grandchildren, Kaylynn and Kristofer Burke, and Jaeden and Isaac Jaynes. Alta was born on May 10, 1923 at home in Reynoldsville, the daughter of Robert “Elmer” and Mary “Mae” White; she graduated from Watkins Glen High School in 1941. She and William were married on July 19, 1942. Alta worked at Cornell University for 37 years; where she began as a sandwich maker and retired as the manager for Cornell’s Dairy Department. After she retired, she opened the SKS Craft Shop in her home. She also volunteered for many groups, including the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church. She was very devoted to her church and was a lifelong member. She loved her grandchildren and spending time with her family. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Reynoldsville United Methodist Church, 5098 State Rt. 227, Burdett, NY 14818.
