MAHAR - 65TH

Richard Lawrence Mahar and Josephine Alice (Preston) Mahar celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on May 3, 2005. Richard and Josephine eloped on May 3, 1940 in East Machias, Maine. Their attendants were Harold Dinsmore and Marion Erquart. Richard and Josephine lived in Lubec, Maine for many years and had six children: Marion Louise (Cox), Westfield, MA, Doris Elaine (Mitchell), Ovid, NY, Robert Edward (deceased), Robert Lawrence (deceased), Richard Arthur, Ormond Beach, FL, Joan Carol, Ithaca, NY. They have four grandchildren: Scott Cox & Shauna Cox of Southwick, MA, Lori Mitchell, Ovid, NY, Kimberly (Mitchell) Walton, Perryville, MD. They also have four great-grandchildren: Justin DeSanty & Steven Roberts of Southwick, MA, Mackenzie Walton & Garrett Walton of Perryville, ND. Richard worked for a number of years at The American Can Company in Lubec. In the late 1960's Josephine and Richard moved to Gorham, Maine and Richard accepted employment at the American Can Company facility in Portland, Maine, from which he later retired. Josephine also worked for many years in Lubec and the Portland, Maine area. They eventually bought a house in Scarborough, Maine and lived there for another thirty years. In the late 1990's the couple relocated to the Finger Lakes area in upstate New York to be close to their daughter Doris and her family. They are now living in Montour Falls, NY and would love to hear from old friends.
