Alyce E. Pokelsek
ASHTABULA ­ Alyce E. Pokelsek, 69, of Pleasantview Avenue, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Cleveland Clinic from complications after brain surgery.
She was born May 30, 1931, in Cleveland, the daughter of William and Marian (Novak) DeMayo.
She married John M. Pokelsek Oct. 29, 1955. She moved to Ashtabula in 1958.
Mrs. Pokelsek was employed as a bookkeeper at National Welders Supply Co. in Ashtabula, where she had worked for the past 17 years. She had given swimming lessons at her home for more than 25 years.
She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a past president of the Ashtabula Women's Club, and a past swimming, gymnastics, exercise instructor and volunteer at Ashtabula YMCA. She enjoyed golfing, racquetball, bowling and traveling.
Survivors include her mother, Marian Lund of Ashtabula; her daughters: Cheryl Duffield of Bay Village and Susan Ioas of Cincinnati; three grandsons; a sister, Merilyn Jerome of Spring, Texas; and her stepsons: James S. and John M. Pokelsek, both of Mentor.
She was preceded in death by the father, and her husband, in 1978.
Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3330 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, with the Rev. Philip Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling hours are 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Zaback-Czup Funeral Home, 500 Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions to the family will be used to set up a scholarship fund to be presented to a local female high school golfer.

Laila H. Kaikko
ASHTABULA - Laila H. Kaikko, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 5, 1921, in Ashtabula, the daughter of K. Victor and Hilda (Hann) Mellin, and was a lifelong resident.
She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, enjoyed painting and working with crafts.
Survivors include sons Wayne of Frederick, Md., Victor of Louisiana and Roger of Ashtabula; a brother, Carl V. Mellin Sr.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Vaino.
A memorial service will take place 7 p.m. Friday, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 933 Michigan Ave., Ashtabula. The Rev. Richard Bowen will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the memorial fund of Bethany Lutheran Church or the Park Haven Nursing Home.
Potti Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, is handling arrangements.

Anthony C. Smolinski
ASHTABULA - Anthony "Sonny" C. Smolinski, 66, formerly of Linesville, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, in Linesville, Pa.
He was born June 12, 1936, in Cleveland, the son of Anthony J. and Cecelia (Wrubleski) Smolinski.
He served as a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean conflict.
He retired with more than 30 years of service from RMI in Ashtabula. He enjoyed traveling and reading.
Services took place Jan. 11, 2003, at the William H. Houghton Funeral Home, 127 Conneaut St., Linesville, Pa. Interment was at St. Philip Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Philip Church, 401 S. Mercer St., Linesville, Pa. 16424.

Ella L. BeBout
ASHTABULA - Ella L. Bebout, 89, formerly of Washington Boulevard, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at the home of her daughter Jacqueline L. Smith, with whom she had been living for the past few years.
Mrs. BeBout was born May 17, 1913, in East Grand Forks, Minn., the daughter of William and Mary Duff.
A resident of Ashtabula most of her life, Mrs. Bebout was employed at Pinney Dock and Yoder Brothers Greenhouses of Ashtabula for many years prior to her retirement. She was a charter member of First Grace Gospel Church and was involved in the Bible study and the ladies' missionary group, where she crocheted several hundred bonnets for the mission.
Mrs. Bebout enjoyed watching Nascar racing, flying, boating and being with family.
Survivors include three children, Jacqueline L. Smith of Saybrook Township, C. Richard Davino of Rio Grande, Calif., and Constance E. Taylor of Shalimar, Fla.; four sisters, June Tabler, Fern Merila, Grace Loftus, all of Ashtabula, and Florence Erickson of Newark; three brothers, Theodore and Warren Duff of Ashtabula and John Duff of Citronelle, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester Francis BeBout, in 1998; a daughter, Janey Schultz, in 1999; a son, Francis Bebout; and four brothers, James, Louis, William M. Jr., and Eugene Duff.
Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Grace Gospel Church, 5730 Adams Ave., Ashtabula, with Pastor David J. Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memory Gardens, North Kingsville.
Calling hours will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Childs and Williams Funeral Home, 1440 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ashtabula County or the memorial fund of First Grace Gospel Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.

Charles E. Bumpus
ASHTABULA - Charles E. Bumpus, 84, of West 54th Street, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at his home.
He was born July 8, 1917, in Conneaut, the son of Charles H. and Lottie (Ward) Bumpus, and had been a lifelong area resident.
A Kingsville High School graduate, he worked for the New York Central Railroad from 1942 to 1977 as a engineer. For a number of years he was a musician with various local bands.
He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Brotherhood of Fireman and Engineers, Musicians Union Local 107, and Harbor Lodge 558 Free & Accepted Masons.
Survivors include a son, Christopher A. of San Marcos, Calif., and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edna, in 1995; and a son, Charles.
Graveside service is 2 p.m. Friday at Edgewood Cemetery, State Road, Ashtabula Township. The Rev. David Adams of Grace Gospel Church, Ashtabula, will officiate.
The Ross-Billman Funeral Home, 526 Prospect Road, Ashtabula, has charge of the arrangements.

Elsie A. Natale
ASHTABULA - Elsie A. Natale, 88, of Park Avenue, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Park Haven.
She was born June 2, 1913, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Pasquale and Lucretzia (DeLeo) Ziviello.
Mrs. Natale grew up in Italy, returning to the United States as a teenager and lived in Philadelphia.
She moved to Mt. Union, Pa., where she lived most of her life. Mrs. Natale moved to Ashtabula in 1989.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needlework and she learned art while in Italy.
Survivors include her daughter, Phyllis DeCato of Ashtabula; a daughter-in-law, Marie DeStephano; seven grandchildren, Alfred "Chip" DeCato, Lisa DeCato Jammal, Dr. John DeCato, Mia Ramey, Kathy DePerna, Lori Wallace and Diana Casey; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delphine Daluiso of Torrance, Calif., and Elena Natale of Paternapoli, Italy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio N. Natale in 1981; son, Anthony J. Natale in 1975; two brothers, Archie and Mario Ziviello; three sisters, Lena Ziviello in infancy, Evelina Troisi, Florence Ziviello and her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Mother of Sorrows Church, 1464 W. 6th St., Ashtabula with Rev. Fr. Kevin Peters officiating.
Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pa.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Ducro Funeral Home, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mother of Sorrows Church or Hospice of Ashtabula County.

Angeline Ann Frabutt
ASHTABULA - Angeline Ann Frabutt, 72, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Carington Park Nursing Home.
Born April 13, 1929, in Ashtabula, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Mongillo) Licate.
A graduate of Ashtabula High School, she was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
She enjoyed cooking and her family.
Survivors include her husband. Marino; a son, James of Greensboro, N.C.; three daughters, Marilyn Davies and Janet Kelly of Ashtabula, Carol Washburn of North Kingsville; three brothers, James and Frank Licate of Ashtabula, and Louis Licate of Jefferson; three sisters, Josephine Presciano and Celia Rich of Ashtabula and Carmel Loveridge of El Paso, Texas; and seven grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Davies, Ann and Ashley Washburn, Kristen and Lori Kelly, and Matthew Frabutt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; twins sons Thomas and Paul; brothers, William, Bernard and Angelo.
Services is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, East 21st Street, Ashtabula. The Rev. Ronald Nuzzi will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Ashtabula County or to Sts. John and Paul school.
