Beneditto DiPietro
ASHTABULA - Beneditto DiPietro, 94, died Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, North Kingsville.
He was born May 22, 1908, in Ashtabula, the son of Francesco and Palma (Arcaro) DiPietro.
He married Mary A. Toth on Nov. 28, 1928, in Conneaut. They were married 64 years before her death.
Mr. DiPietro attended the Ashtabula public schools, and worked at Aetna Rubber. He retired from Dunne Plastics in 1973 with 25 years of service. After his retirement, he and his wife operated the kitchen at the Spot Cafe.
He was a life member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, where he served as a church usher and councilman and was a past chairman of the annual church festival.
Survivors include a son, Francis of Ashtabula; a daughter, Palma Meola of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Marianne, Tom, Don, and Ben Meola; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his stepmother Josephine; and a brother, Fred.
Service is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1200 E. 21st St., Ashtabula. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Saybrook Township.
Calling hours are from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.

Carol Walsh
ASHTABULA - Carol Walsh, 49, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at the Ashtabula County Medical Center.
She was born April 2, 1952, in New York, N.Y., a daughter of Bruno and Elsie (Schwartz) Borecki.
Mrs. Walsh had worked at the Ashtabula Mall.
She was a member of the Mother of Sorrows Church and the Living with Cancer support group. She also was an accomplished artist.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph; two daughters Darlene Bland of Ashtabula, and Danielle Walsh of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Holly Bland,
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Sandra Borecki.
Service is 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mother of Sorrows Church, 1514 W. Sixth St., Ashtabula.
Calling hours are 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.

Mary E. Macartney
ASHTABULA - Mary E. Macartney, 65, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, in Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Born April 18, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pa., she was a resident of Carington Park Nursing Home.
Survivors include a son; Henry Russell of Ashtabula and four grandchildren; Christina, Erica, Lauren and Malynda.
There will be no services at this time.
Arrangements are being handled by the Guerriero Funeral Home, 1550 W. 19th St., Ashtabula.

Richard F. Ockman
ASHTABULA ­ Richard F. Ockman, 73, died Friday, March 30, 2001, at the home of his daughter after a long bout with cancer.
He was born Oct. 26, 1927, in Ashtabula, the son of John and Frances (Stonerock) Ockman.
Mr. Ockman was a graduate of Harbor High School and also attended Bowling Green University.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and afterwards serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from L-Tec, formerly Linde Wire Co. having worked there for more than 30 years.
Mr. Ockman was a constant reader of all genres, having particular interest in anatomy and international politics.
Survivors include his daughter, Liisa (Ockman) Hake of Ashtabula; sons, John and Steven Ockman of Ashtabula; stepsons, Robert and William Sholtis of Cleveland; a brother, Robert Ockman; and grandchildren Matthew Sholtis, and Jorma and Laura Hake.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no services/.
Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Ashtabula County.
Potti Lakeside Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 1329 Lake Ave., Ashtabula was in charge of arrangements.

MARY ANN DISALVATORE
ASHTABULA -- Mary Ann DiSalvatore, age 76, a resident of Ashtabula, Ohio, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at her home following a courageous six-month battle with brain cancer.
Born April 18, 1929, in Ashtabula, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Lucille (Fadel) David. A life-long resident of Ashtabula, she was as proud of her city as she was of her Lebanese roots.
A 1947 graduate of Ashtabula High School, she attended Ohio Business College. She was co-owner of David Brothers Confectioners Store on Main Avenue in Ashtabula, which her father opened in 1910, and continued in operation until 1964.
Mary Ann put her faith, family, and friends before herself throughout her 76 years. She was a gentle, compassionate, caring person who was loved by all, and considered everyone her friend.
She was a life member of St. Joseph Church, where she married Albert G. DiSalvatore in 1965. For many years, she sang in the Messiah Chorus, worked bingo for St. Joseph School, was a Girl Scout Leader, and was a member of the Cedars of Lebanon Club, which her mother founded. She was also active on her class reunion committee, worked for GNC for over 15 years, and for 12 years worked for her son at Dr. Tom DiSalvatore's chiropractic office. Her family was her life, and her home was open to all and was considered the best "Bed and Breakfast/Hotel" this side of Cleveland.
An avid Fighting Irish fan, she enjoyed football and rooting for the Cleveland Browns, Bernie Kosar being her favorite all-time player, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years; her son, Tom (Sandi); a daughter, Marybeth (Alan) Brailer of Lorain; grandchildren, Jessie, Maddie, David, Grace, Andy, and Katelyn; her sister, JoAnn (Bob) Styles of Ashtabula; nieces, Juli Anne Oatman, Mary-Helen Petro, Jennifer Brown, and Luci Payne and their families; and several nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends from Niagara Falls to California and every state in between.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006, in St. Joseph Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2006, at the GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME, 1550 West 19th Street, Ashtabula.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to St. Joseph Church or Sts. John and Paul Catholic School.

Betty L. Searls
Sunday, August 19, 2007
ASHTABULA - Betty Lou Searls, age 78, of Thayer Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio, died Thursday evening, Aug. 16, 2007, at the Rae Ann Nursing Home of Geneva, Ohio, following a lengthy illness.
Born July 11, 1929, in Euclid, Ohio, she was a daughter of Vernon and Verne (Wilder) Smith. A 1948 graduate of Ashtabula High School, Betty married Bert C. Searls on Oct. 15, 1949.
In addition to being a homemaker, for several years Betty was the receptionist hospitality resource person for the Ohio Conference of the United Church of Christ in Columbus, Ohio.
Survivors include her husband, Bert C. of 57 years; one son, Dennis L. Searls of Ashtabula, Ohio; three sisters, Murial McKonly of Geneva, Ohio, Jean Young of Kingston, Tenn. and Peggy Ball of Port Orange, Fla.; sister-in-law, Betty Smith of Harmonsburg, Pa, ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Vernon Smith Jr.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at the CHILDS AND WILLIAMS FUNERAL HOME, 1440 W. Prospect Road, Ashtabula, Ohio, with the Rev. Allison Milligan, pastor of Austinburg United Church of Christ, officiating. Internment will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, N. Kingsville, Ohio.
Friends and family may call one hour prior to services on Monday, Aug. 20, 2007, at the Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio 44004. Envelopes will be available at the Funeral Home.

ANIYAH N. SMITH
ASHTABULA -- Aniyah Nicole Smith, age 4 months, of Ashtabula, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 15, 2006, in Chicago, Illinois.
Born November 2, 2005, in Ashtabula, she was a daughter of Amanda and Andre Smith Sr.
Survivors include her parents of Ashtabula; sister, Kalaya Smith of Ashtabula; maternal grandmother, Lissa Rousc of Illinois; paternal grandparents, Bennie and Joyce Smith of Illinois; and godmother, Nicole Watson of Geneva.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Andre Smith Jr.
A Graveside Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, April 10, 2006, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Geneva, Ohio.
Arrangements are being handled by the BEHM FAMILY FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 175 South Broadway, Geneva.
