PASTOR ANNIE E. CHILDS
ORWELL - Pastor Annie E. Childs, 76, of Orwell, went home to rest Wednesday, June 11, 2003. Home Going Celebration (Funeral) will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Original Church of God Ministries, 2350 E. 79th St., Cleveland. Joy Night (calling hours) will be held at 6:30 p.m. today, June 17, 2003, at the above address.

Oliver W. Jobes
ORWELL - Oliver W. Jobes, 93, died Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren.
Born May 26, 1909, in High House, Pa., he was the son of Winfield S. and Emma Jean (Lazear) Jobes. He married Elizabeth Sears on Nov. 11, 1934.
A former Gustavus Township resident for 17 years, Mr. Jobes had lived in Orwell since 1956. He was a 1929 Greene High School and a Warren Business School graduate.
Mr. Jobes worked at Packard Electric, Warren, for 13 years before opening his own store, Jobes 5 & 10 Store, in Orwell. He sold the store in 1967 and went to work for Kennametal, Orwell, for eight years, retiring in 1974. After his retirement, he worked part time at Lawrence Pharmacy, Orwell.
Mr. Jobes also served at one time as a member of the Gustavus School Board and was Orwell Township clerk.
He was a member of the Orwell United Methodist Church, the Old Brick Historical Society, Gustavus Historical Society and the Trumbull County Genealogical Society.
Mr. Jobes enjoyed many activities, including baseball, golf, bowling, basketball, chair caning and photography.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; four daughters, Grace E. James of Mount Gilead, Charlene A. Rigg of Arcadia, Fla., Linda L. Moore of Orwell, and Georgia A. Artman of Warren; two sons, Oliver W. Jr. of Orwell, and W. Randy of Levittsburg; a sister, Alice Stanford of Pittsburgh; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by 10 sisters; three brothers; his parents; and a daughter, Elizabeth J. Jobes.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at the Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman. Burial will be in Gustavus Cemetery, Gustavus Township.
Calling hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Orwell United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Curtis Johnson
ORWELL - Curtis Johnson, 62, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at his residence.
He was born June 2, 1940, in Blytheville, Ark., to Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Leomia (King) Johnson. He lived in this area 18 years.
Mr. Johnson was married to Maxine Jones for 24 years. He was a steel fabricator at Peerless Winsmith in Warren 15 years.
Survivors include his wife, mother, three sons, three daughters, three stepdaughters, one stepson, one brother, four sisters and 24 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and a sister.
Funeral is 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at First Missionary Baptist Church of Mesopotamia at Route 87 and Bridgen Road. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery in Mesopotamia.
Visitation is 11 to11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Russell Golden Rule Funeral Service, 15670 West High St., Middlefield, is handling arrangements.

Pauline Taylor
ORWELL - Pauline Taylor, 88, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at UHHS Geauga Regional Hospital, Claridon Township.
Born April 26, 1912, in Orwell, she was a daughter of William and Sarah (Addicott) Jonesand was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Taylor was a ceramic artist, an avid reader and enjoyed her birds and dogs as well as other animals.
She is survived by her sister, Zella Rodgers of Gibsonton, Fla., and two nephews, William Rodgers of Gibsonton and David Rodgers of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William "Celt" Taylor ; a sister, Marie Dillon; and three infant brothers.
Service is 1 p.m. Monday at Orwell Presbyterian Church, 135 N. Maple St., Orwell, with the Rev. George Dauler officiating.
Calling hour is from noon until the time of service Monday at the church.
The Paine-Simpson Funeral Home, 140 E. Main St., Orwell, has charge of the arrangements.

Bernice C. Mendenhall
ORWELL - Bernice C. Mendenhall, 88, of Orwell for 17 years, formally of Mentor, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Geauga Hospital in Claridon Township.
She was born on November 1, 1914, in Belfast, N.Y.
Mrs. Mendenhall was a homemaker, active in the girl scouts, Volunteers of America, taught ceramics and enjoyed crafts.
Survivors include two sons, George Gunnerman of Georgia and Richard (fiancé Angela Duncan) Mendenhall, of Austin, Texas; one daughter, Elizabeth (Douglas) Merrell of Rome, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jessica, Tina and Stephen; one great- granddaughter, Mackenzie; and two sisters, Almeda (Del) Smith of Euclid and Ruth Ledwith of Orwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carrol Harrison Mendenhall; three brothers, Norm, Ed and George Hotchkiss; and three sisters, Ruthie, Mae and Berdella.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, at the Brunner Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday.
Interment will be at the Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chesterland. Online obituary at www.brunners.com.

Nettie Mistak
RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Nettie Mistak, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Alta Vista Healthcare.
She was born May 8, 1917, in Wheeling, W.Va., the daughter of Joseph and Katherine (Chimpel) Kalisz. The family later moved to Orwell.
She married Ludwic Mistak of Colebrook Township on Nov. 18, 1939. The couple lived in Cleveland, then lived in the Sagamore Hills area.
During the war years, Mrs. Mistak worked at Davis Can Co. and later at Hertner Electric, Bedford. She and her husband were owners of the Atena Cafe for 20 years.
Mrs. Mistak enjoyed baking and cooking for her children and grandchildren and working outdoors in her flower garden. She had the greenest of thumbs for roses.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald of San Diego, Calif., and Tom of Port Byron, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Kalisz of North Bloomfield, and Alec Kalisz of Baltimore, Md.; and a sister, Helen Klingensmith of Orwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, on March 5, 1996; two brothers, Chester and Stanley; and a sister, Genevieve.
Service is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary Church, 103 N. Maple St., Orwell, with the Rev. Gregory Fedor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Paine-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at St. Mary Church.

William J. Mooney
STEPHENS CITY, Va. - William Jerome Mooney died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
He was born Nov. 2, 1919, in Conneaut, the son of William Matthew and Orlean Viola Money. He was a 1937 Conneaut High School graduate.
He married Geraldine Martha Fahnestock on Nov. 27, 1944, in New Orleans, La. They met while both were in the military.
He worked as a hammersmith for the Nickel Plate Railroad and for the last 27 of his working years as a radio and electronics mechanic for Northwest Airlines.
Mr. Mooney was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, and was a third degree knight in the Knights of Columbus, Conneaut. He also was a member and officer in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers for 25 years, and of the American Legion Post, Strasburg, Va.
Mr. Mooney was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army as a technician fourth class.
He was well-known for his artistic talents..
Survivors include his wife; a son, William J. Jr., of Front Royal, Va.; a daughter, Martha Ann Kent of Fairfax, Va.; five grandchildren, Jessica Ariel Mooney, Christopher Fredrick Kent, Susan Martha Kent, Jerome Bertrand Kent, and Mary Alice Kent; two brothers, Gerald Mooney of Buffalo, N.Y., and Carl Mooney of Conneaut; and a sister, Clara King of Conneaut.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Service is 10 a.m. today at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Winchester, Va.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sacred Heart Academy, 110 Keating Drive, Winchester, Va., 22061.
