Brenda S. Deaton
Mrs. Brenda Sargent Deaton, 40, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, as a result of a traffic accident. She was born on April 22, 1960, in Middletown, Ohio, the daughter of George William Sargent and Lola E. (Kakaris) Sargent. Brenda attended the New Life Ministries Church. She is survived by her husband, John Deaton; her mother, Lola Edna Sargent of Middletown; a brother and sister-in-law, Joe and Karen Sargent of Franklin; a brother, Greg Sargent of Middletown; three nieces, Jackie Sargent and Rachel and Kara Deaton; and two nephews, Adam Sargent and Johnathan Deaton. Mrs. Deaton was preceded in death by her father, George William Sargent in 1981.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Barrett officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Martha Dyas
CARLISLE -- Mrs. Martha Dyas, 76, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at the Hillspring Nursing Home in Springboro. Mrs. Dyas formerly resided in Fairview Drive in Carlisle, Ohio. She had been employed at NCR and was active in the P-40 Club, a World War II Airplane Club. She was the daughter of Samuel and Margaret (Simmons) Steadman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hobart in 1999; and a half brother, Claude Wilmoth. Martha is survived by a brother, Samuel Steadman of Franklin; sisters Ruby Bell of Wellston, Ohio, Mary Baber of Franklin, and half sister, Edith McGinnis of Lincoln Park, Mich.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, with the Rev. Cindy Kohlmann officiating. Visitation is today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Jersey Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Clara L. Endebrock
Mrs. Clara Louise Endebrock, 88, of Middletown, passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Willow Knoll Nursing Home. She was born in Excello, Ohio, on April 30, 1912, and was a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Endebrock had worked as a secretary at Armco Steel Co. for two years. She was a member of the Kings Messenger class and the Women's Society at Christ United Methodist Church and also belonged to T.O.P.S. She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. in 1967; her parents, Dennis and Ethel McLaughlin; a son, Arthur John Endebrock II; and a sister, Dorothy McLaughlin. She leaves a daughter, Carolyn Lacey of Middletown; grandchildren Linda Stepp of Cincinnati, Steve Lacey of Franklin, Kathryn Lacey of Cincinnati and Timothy Lacey of Columbus, Miss.; three great-grandchildren, Steve and Christopher Lacey and Jimmy Stepp; former son-in-law, James Lacey of Germantown; a sister-in-law, Amelia Wettengel of Cincinnati; nephews Warren Jr. Wettengel, and his wife, Della, Arthur Wettengel, and his wife, Kitty, and Gary Wettengel, and his wife, Judy, all of Cincinnati; first cousin Mary Madeline Laubach Jones and other numerous cousins.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christ United Methodist Church, 700 S. Marshall Road, Middletown 45044, with the Rev. Thomas B. Mellott officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Lula F. Faulkner
Mrs. Lula F. Faulkner, 71, of Middletown, passed away at 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at the Willow Knoll Nursing Center where she had been a patient for three weeks. She was born on Sept. 29, 1929, in Frenchburg, Ky., and had lived in Middletown since 1948. She was employed as a project manager at Aeronca, retiring in 1990 after 32 years of service. Mrs. Faulkner was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Gertrude (Oldfield) Little; and two brothers, Olney Little and Kelly Little Jr. Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Jack R. Faulkner; a son, John K. Faulkner, and his wife, Susan, of Middletown; a daughter, Debby Epperson of Lebanon; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Juanita and Jack Blevins of Middletown and Peggy and Ronnie Parks of Hunter; and a brother, Rodney Little, and his wife, Patty, of Springboro.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, with the Rev. John Keeny officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Hubert D. Flower
FRANKLIN -- Hubert D. Flower, 79, formerly of 415 Lake Ave., died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Franklin Ridge Nursing Home where his granddaughter Shawn Price cared for him. He was born in Blackfork, Ohio, on March 1, 1921, the son of Emanuel M. and Maude (Henry) Flower. He graduated from Blackfork High School and from Rio Grande College and was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle in Carlisle. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army and was a school teacher for 25 years, teaching at Blackfork school for two years and at Franklin schools for 23 years, retiring in 1982. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Kathryn Walters. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Donafay (Souders) Flower; a son, David Flower and wife Cathy of Englewood; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Rose) Johnston and Mrs. Donald (Claudette) Prince, all of Franklin; two brothers, Herbert Flower of Columbus and Newton Flower of Middletown; a sister, Dorothy Walters of Ironton; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, with the Rev. Michael Gray officiating. Burial will be in Butler County Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Ruey Graft
TRENTON -- Ruey Graft, 78, of Trenton, passed away peacefully, Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born on Jan. 20, 1922, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the daughter of Dewey Rudd and Dora (Hacker) Rudd. Mrs. Graft was a member of the Breiel Boulevard Church of God. She is survived by a daughter, Wanda (Ron) Specht of Trenton; a son, David (Jennifer) Graft of Trenton; seven grandchildren, Rhonda McIntosh, Mark Specht, Rebecca Adkins, Randall Specht, Mike Graft, Jonathan Graft and Elizabeth DeWitt; 16 great-grandchildren; and a special nephew, Edmond Bunnell. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Charles E. Graft in 1986; two sisters, Ethel Bunnell and Molly Gilliland; and her parents.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the North Monroe Cemetery, with the Rev. David DeWitt officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

Fred Hoskins
Former Middletown resident Fred Hoskins, 68, of Troy, Ohio, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at his home after an extended illness. He was born on Oct. 16, 1931, in Middletown, Ohio, to the late Elisha and Hazel Hoskins. Fred was married on Aug. 1, 1953, to Shirley (Stalls) Hoskins. She survives along with two sons and a daughter-in-law, Chad and Donna Hoskins of Celina, Ohio, and Todd Hoskins of Indianapolis, Ind.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jody and Craig Weaver of Holland, Mich.; eight grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Norma and William Freeze of Middletown. Mr. Hoskins was a 1949 graduate of Middletown High School. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati and completed work for his master's degree from Oberlin College and Vanderbilt University. He was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and worked for the Ohio Society of Christian Churches' new church organization program for 10 years. He retired in 1989 from PMI where he was manager of materials engineering. He also held previous positions at General Electric and U.S. Steel. Mr. Hoskins was a licensed professional engineer in the state of Ohio. He had served in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home, 1124 W. Main St., Troy, Ohio, with hospice Chaplain the Rev. Ed Ellis officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. His body was donated to the Wright State University School of Medicine through the Anatomical Gift Program.

Winifred Hummel
GERMANTOWN -- Mrs. Winifred "Sweeter" (McMahon) Hummel, 84, of Germantown, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at her home. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Aug. 29, 1916, to the late Richard F. and Winifred A. (O'Fallon) McMahon. Mrs. Hummel was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and worked at Middletown Regional Hospital from 1965 to 1975. She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Franklin and former member of Holy Trinity Church in Middletown and St. Augustine Church in Germantown. Mrs. Hummel was also a former member of Delta Chi Sigma Sorority, the former Altar Rosary Society, a member of St. Mary's Ladies Association and the Widmodausian Ladies Club of Carlisle. She was also a lifelong member of the Carlisle, Franklin, Middletown and Germantown historical societies. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Ralph H. Hummel in 1982; her sister, Madeleine B. Rentschler; and three brothers, Richard F. McMahon, Joseph P. McMahon and Lt. Col. Robert J. McMahon. She is survived by two daughters, Gretchen L., (Glenn) Berny of Cumming, Ga., and Wynelle Hummel of Cape Cod, Mass.; two sons, Richard R. Hummel of Germantown and Ralph "Ted" (Elaine) Hummel of Brookville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Louise A. McMahon of Evans, Ga.
ARRANGEMENTS: Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dalton Funeral Home, corner of Ohio 4 and Weaver Road in Germantown. There will be additional viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 115 S. Main St., Franklin, with Fathers Joseph Bruening and Kenneth J. Hummel concelebrants. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Middletown.

Cecil Jenkins
Cecil Jenkins, 89, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on July 5, 1911, in Rising Sun, Ind., the son of Kelly and Maude (York) Jenkins. He was a member and usher of the Towne Boulevard Church of God. Mr. Jenkins retired from McCoy Oil where he was a driver. He was an avid fisherman. Survivors include two daughters, Judy Hamilton and Cecile Whisman, both of Middletown; granddaughters Vicky Mattor, Debbie Lyninger, Mary Helen Kozarec, Julie Bowman, Tonda Camp, Sherry Tibbs and Tina Tibbs; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; and a special friend, Paula Clayton. Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; and a son-in-law, Max Hamilton.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Towne Boulevard Church of God, with Pastors Frank Curtis and Billy Ball officiating. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery. Sara A. Kall
Mrs. Sara A. Kall, 80, of Middletown, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. Sara was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., on April 20, 1920, the daughter of John and Anna (Boylan) Flynn. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish where she was a member of the Women's Society. She was also a member of the Middletown Regional Hospital Auxiliary and had participated in a bowling league. Mrs. Kall is survived by her husband, Andrew of Middletown; two daughters, Sally A. (Roger) Cassidy of Canton, Mich., and Betsy K. (Peter) Brosnan of Naperville, Ill.; a sister, Ann Lukitsh of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and six grandchildren Matt, Mike and Danny Cassidy and John, Katie and Pattie Brosnan. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Flynn.
ARRANGEMENTS: Mass of Christian Burial is set for 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish, with Father John Civille as celebrant. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery, Middletown. There will be no visitation.

Goldie Kidwell
FRANKLIN -- Mrs. Goldie Kidwell, 74, of Franklin, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at Sycamore Hospital. She was born on Nov. 24, 1925, in Covington, Ky., the daughter of Richard and Pansey (Lauge) Baxter. She was a member of the Franklin Christian Church and Senior Citizens group of the church. Mrs. Kidwell was employed as a waitress for Howard Johnson in Dayton for 20 years and retired from the Golden Lamb in Lebanon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milfred E. Kidwell in 1990. She is survived by two sons, Emery E. Kidwell of Franklin and Richard Lee Kidwell of Dayton; a daughter, Marsha K. Taylor of Carlisle; a brother, Richard Baxter; and five grandchildren, Nathan Kidwell, Bridgette Taylor, Michele Kidwell, Joey Taylor and Heather Kidwell.

Mark Ulysess (Bear) Kirby
Mark Ulysess (Bear) Kirby, 50, of 1852 Frazier Road, Midland, Ohio, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at University Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born in Middletown on Feb. 9, 1950, the son of Jesse and Sarah (Crank) Kirby. He was formerly employed by Georgia Pacific in Franklin for 11 years and retired in 1992. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Paul and Bobby Kirby. Surviving are his wife of 13 years, Roberta (Emrick) Kirby; three daughters, Angie Howard of Miamisburg, Heather Rudokas of Carlisle and Tami Haggerty of Middletown; two sons, Chris Haggerty of Middletown and Gary Lee Kirby at home; five brothers, George Kirby of Franklin, Jack Kirby of Middletown, Richard Kirby of Franklin, Arnold Kirby of Kentucky and Don Kirby of Franklin; a sister, Dottie Kirby of North Carolina; and three grandchildren, Miranda Howard, Sarah Lee Madison Howard and Aaron Kyle Rudokas.

Clarence A. Litsch
FRANKLIN -- Clarence A. "Larry" Litsch, 90, formerly of David Boulevard, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, at Sycamore Hospital. He was born on Feb. 17, 1910, in Middletown, Ohio, the son of Frank and Louise (Wilker) Litsch. He was employed as a toolmaker at Koehler Aircraft before retirement. Mr. Litsch was also a self-employed painter and wallpaper hanger. He was a member of the Franklin Lions Club and Eagles. He was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Fay; a son, Thomas of Springboro; a sister, Florence Ritchey of Danville, Calif.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St., Franklin, with Father Joseph Bruening officiating. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. prior to the service.

Elijah Little
Elijah Little, 60, of Middletown, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Garden Manor Extended Care Center. He was born May 1, 1940, in Booneville, Ky., the son of Charles Little and Beulah (Johnson) Little. Mr. Little was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and he retired from The Sorg Paper Co.. Mr. Little was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mary E. (Hawley) Little; two daughters, Gina Lecoeubere of Atlanta, Ga., and Tina Payne of Middletown; two grandsons, Elijah Tyler and Derek Payne; his mother, Beulah Little of Middletown; two stepdaughters, Marjorie Griebe of Eaton and Phyllis Brubaker of Eaton, three stepsons, Ronald, Robert and Michael Gardner, all of West Alexandria; two sisters, Sue Scudder of Plymouth, Mich., and Mattie Ratliff of Middletown; and two brothers, Abraham Little of Middletown and Robert Little of Jamestown, Ky. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Little.

Paul J. Long Jr.
CENTERVILLE -- Paul J. Long Jr., 84, of Centerville, Ohio, died at home Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000. He retired in 1977 after working more than 31 years at Delco Products of General Motors Corp. Mr. Long was a member of the South Park United Methodist Church and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He was a Registered Professional Engineer. He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and served as an officer in the Navy during World War II. Among his survivors are his wife, Jean; a son, William Long, and daughter-in-law, Julie, of Newport Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Nancy Slivka, and son-in-law, Dan, of Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren, Melanie and Matthew Lowe, Paul D. Slivka and W. David Long Jr.; sisters Mary E. Blair of Lebanon, Ohio, and Ida Peck, and her husband, E.C. Peck, of Middletown; a nephew, John D. Peck; and a niece, Kathy S. Maier.

Jesse B. McCoy
SPRINGBORO -- Jesse B. McCoy, 79, of Springboro, died on Sunday morning, Oct. 1, 2000, at Hospice of Dayton. He was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Rosslyn, Ky., to Roy and Grace McCoy. Mr. McCoy worked for the Operating Engineers Union, with McGraw Construction and Armco's Project 600. He was a member of Towne Boulevard Church of God and for 43 years was involved with the music ministry at the Grand Avenue Church of God, Towne Boulevard Church of God and Carlisle Church of God. He was in the 448th Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion of the U.S. Army in World War II in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a life member of VFW 3809 and was a member of the American Association of Quarter House Breeders. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Opal McCoy, in July 1995; two sisters, Jean Terrill and Weedia Amburgy and his parents. He is survived by his wife, June McCoy of Springboro; one son, Steve (Phyllis) McCoy of Hilton Head, S.C.; four daughters, LaQueta "Lee" (Jim) Hartman of Middletown, Hazel McCoy of Boulder, Colo., Emily (Paul) Harris of Middletown and Melody (Greg) Blatt of Dayton; three brothers, John (Margie) McCoy of Middletown, Roy (Joyce) McCoy of Carlisle and Shirley (Pat) McCoy of Stanton, Ky.; four sisters, Ethel Napier of Middletown, Opal Watson of Stanton, Eva Morton of Mt. Charles M. Miller
TRENTON -- Charles Martin Miller, 91, of Trenton, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 4, 2000, at his residence. He was born on Dec. 7, 1908, in Middletown and worked for the Black Clawson Company as a machinist. Mr. Miller was a life member of the Eagles Lodge and a member of the Baptist Church. His wife, Irene French, survives him. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his first wife, Clarice in 1974 and a daughter, Phyllis Jean Miller in 1944.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. Tuesday until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Woodside Cemetery.

Fay Miller
Mrs. Fay Miller, 88, of 207 Aberdeen Drive, died Thursday afternoon, Oct. 5, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 13, 1912, a daughter of David and Mamie (Constanc) Brown, and lived most of her life in this area. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, the Washington Chapter Order of Eastern Star and Senior Citizens. She loved playing bridge and was a concert pianist. She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Kunz of Middletown; her son, Eugene D. John O. Miller
John (Jack) Oliver Miller, 79, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 15, 1920, at Sapulpa, Okla. Mr. Miller received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Toledo. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Miller retired from Armco Steel as general management director of mining after 42 years of service. He began his profession with Armco Steel as a machinist and was promoted through the years to plant manager of National Supply Co. in Gainesville, Texas. He was sent to Ambridge, Pa., as plant manager of Armco Steel. His career then took him to Sydney, Austrailia, where he was project manager for negotiating a steel mill construction in Austrailia through an international consortium. After three years in Sydney, he was promoted to Armco Steel general management in Middletown, Ohio, where he served as director of mining until his retirement in 1981. During his years in Gainesville, he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on the administrative board and the building committee. He was a member of the Gainesville Community Circus, the Rotary Club and numerous other civic organizations. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and received his 50-year Masonic Lodge pin. Upon retirement, he and his wife, Vernie, returned to Texas, where they lived in Rockwall, Texas, for 14 years. During this time, he served on the administrative board of the First United Methodist Church, library board, treasurer of Helping Hands, and president of The Shores Homeowners Association. During his time in Rockwall, he became active in the Hella Temple Shrine and the Royal Order of Jestors. His love of golf led to involvement as the president of the Shrine Golf Group. It was during the first years of retirement that Jack found his love for the computer. The computer hobby progressed to become a vital part of his life and associations. He and Vernie moved to Sun City Texas in Georgetown, Texas, where he became involved with the formation of the Sun City Computer Club. He became an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Georgetown, Texas. He was owner of ABC Kids Furniture Store in Austin, where he applied his many computer and business talents. He is survived by his wife, Laverne (Vernie) Miller of Georgetown to whom he was married on Dec. 13, 1941, in Toledo, Ohio; sons, John M. (Mike) Miller and wife, Peggy, of Lampasas, Texas, and James S. (Steve) Miller, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, John Christopher Miller and wife Brandy of Georgetown, Texas, James Bradley Miller, of Georgetown, Texas, Jacob Andrew Miller of Lubbock, Texas, James Travis Miller of Mandeville, La., and Lindsey Susanne Miller, of Mandeville, La.; and a great-grandson, John Nickolas Miller, of Georgetown, Texas.

Hazel C. Million
Mrs. Hazel C. Million, 80, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at her residence. She was born in Campton, Ky., on April 10, 1920, the daughter of William H. and Zerilda Hanks. Mrs. Million had worked as a secretary at the Dayton Public Library for 10 years and at the Cincinnati Public Library for three years. She had also been employed at the Rike's store in Dayton. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luster Million, on March 18, 1999; her parents; and a grandson, Christopher John Million. She leaves two sons and their wives, L. Ronald and Joyce Million of Winchester, Mass., and Larry P. and Barbara Million of Carlisle; a daughter, Gwendolyn Million of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a brother, Stanley Hanks of Minn.; and a sister, Mahalia (Dolly) Lewis of Middletown.

F.J. 'Pete' Moorman
Longtime Middletown resident and businessman F.J. 'Pete' Moorman, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital at the age of 84. Mr. Moorman, a Batesville, Ind. native was an active local executive and secretary/treasurer of Moorman Sand & Gravel Co. until the company's sale in 1986. He was a 1934 graduate of Batesville High School in Batesville, and moved to Middletown in 1935. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on active duty in the Asiatic and Pacific Theatre of World War II attaining the rank of Lieutenant J.G. USNR with the SeaBees. He returned to Middletown in 1945. He was a local member of Wildwood Golf Club KofC, VFW, and the American Legion Post 218. He was also active in the Middletown Chamber of Commerce and the Exchange Club until his retirement in 1981. He is survived by his wife, Helen R. of Middletown; son, Kenneth R. of Dayton; grandsons, Thomas O. of Nelsonville, Ohio, and Gregory B. of Kettering; granddaughter, Melinda Anne of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Milton A. of Houston, Texas, and Roland D. of Martinsville, Ind.; and sisters, Romilda Brewer of Destin, Fla., Billie Laugle of Batesville and Betty Ricci of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Edward C. Orman
Edward C. Orman, 76, a longtime Middletown resident, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 2, 2000, at the Palms of Pasadena Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on May 1, 1924, a son of Frederick and Ruby (McNelley) Orman, and worked as a welder for Armco Steel Co. for more than 30 years. He then opened his own shop, Orman Welding, in 1970. Mr. Orman was a veteran of the Marine Corps and a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Donna (Davis) Orman; three sons, Keith A. Orman of Chicago, Ill., and Eddie A. Orman and Eric V. Orman, both of Middletown; and two grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death, as did a brother, Ben.

Cora Ritchie
CARLISLE -- Mrs. Cora Ritchie, 51, of 190 Earnhart Drive, passed away unexpectedly and is now at rest with Jesus. She passed away Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. Cora was born on June 20, 1949, in Hindman, Ky., the daughter of Marl and Virti (Caudill) Huff. She was a beautician for 30 years and was employed with Juanita's Beauty Shop and Creative Touch. She was a member of the Rose Chapel Baptist Church in West Carrollton. She was preceded in death by her mother, Virti Huff; three brothers, Clay, Stephen and Emal Huff; and a sister, Olene Sloan. Mrs. Ritchie is survived by her husband, Johnnie Leon; a son, Tracy Ritchie, and his wife, Jennifer, of Franklin; her father, Marl Huff of Hindman, Ky.; two brothers, Ivis Huff of Hindman and Vernal Huff of Marion, Ky.; five sisters, Pearl Hodges of Marion, Ky., Edna Jean Jacobs and Orie Thornsbury, both of Hindman, Ky., Lona Smith of Huber Heights and Lora Burdge of Hazard, Ky.; and two grandchildren, Justin Ritchie and Chantell Havens.

Nathan G. Roberts
SPRINGBORO -- Nathan G. Roberts, 84, of 8727 Clearcreek-Franklin Road, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Southview Hospital. He was born in Crossville, Tenn., on Oct. 9, 1915, the son of James Monroe and Addie Ersla (Whitenburg) Roberts. He attended Pennyroyal Baptist Church in Franklin and retired from General Motors Harrison Radiator in 1977 following 30 years employment. Preceding him in death were his wife, Allie, in 1998; two brothers, Gordon and Elmore Roberts; and three sisters, Anna Crouder, Rachel Donaldson and Siddie Hedgecoth. Surviving are two sons, Ken Roberts and wife, Pat of Lebanon, and Spencer Roberts and wife, Nancy of Franklin; two daughters, Louise Shoate and husband, Truman of Springboro, and Helen Kriskol of Dayton; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kristy Lynn Robinson, 31, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday morning, Oct. 4, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Middletown on May 24, 1969. She had been employed as a nurse's aide at nursing homes. Mrs. Robinson is survived by her husband, David; her mother and stepfather, Velma and Donald Lykins of Franklin; a brother, Rob Lykins of Franklin; a stepbrother, Donald L. Lykins Jr. of Gratis; maternal grandmother, Erna Martin of Middletown; aunt and uncle Debbie and Rocky Irwin of Franklin; and a cousin, Rocky Irwin II. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ralph Martin in 1997.

Helen Y. Sexton
Mrs. Helen Y. Sexton, 86, a lifelong resident of Middletown, was promoted to glory on Monday, Oct. 2, 2000. She was born on Feb. 7, 1914, in Middletown, the daughter of Joseph Yarber and Catherine (Young) Yarber. Mrs. Sexton was a member of the Salvation Army of Middletown where she enjoyed the Home League, League of Mercy, and was a bell ringer for more than 20 years. Survivors include a son, John B. Sexton Jr., and his wife, Helen, of Rapid City, S.D.; eight grandchildren, Kenna (husband Dan) Emnett of Huber Heights, Janet (husband Pat) Gross of Middletown, Kevin (wife Carrie) Martin of Middletown, Keith Martin of Dayton, George (wife Carol) Sexton of Colorado, Shawn Sexton of Arizona, Lisa (husband James) Robinson of Rapid City, and Wayne (wife Lynn) Peterson of Rapid City, S.D.; 13 great-grandchildren, Tanai, Scott, Emily, Amanda, Michael, Jessica, Molly, Heather, Charles, Jessica, Tiffany, Travis and Katie; and a very special friend, Grace Woodward. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John Buford Sexton; a daughter, Ruth Ann Martin; a sister, Ruth Yarber; and a brother, Paul Yarber.

John P. Spence Sr.
John P. Spence Sr., 89, of Middletown, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Dec. 10, 1910, in Bath County, Ky., the son of Benjamin F. and Daisy (Thompson) Spence. Mr. Spence worked as a custodian for the Middletown/Monroe school system and also served on school patrol from 1989 until 1998. He was a member of the city softball league until he was 62 years of age. He attended the Tytus Avenue Church of God. Mr. Spence is survived by a daughter, Peggy (husband John) Faulkner; two sons, Larry L. Spence and John P. (wife Debbie) Spence Jr., both of Middletown; three grandchildren, Julie, Brian and Stefanie Spence; three great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clark (wife Lillie) Spence of Harveysburg, Ohio, and George Spence of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable G. Spence in 1999, and his parents.

Michelle Spurlock, 36, of Middletown, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Mercy North Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio. Mrs. Marie Anna Stamper, 79, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Middletown, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Tampa, Fla. She was born on March 12, 1921, the daughter of Edward Wise and Mae (Schraub) Wise. Mrs. Stamper was a member of the Jacksonburg United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Sherry (husband Lee) Robbins and Gina K. Keilman, both of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Edward D. (wife Diane) Stamper of Petaluma, Calif., and Delmond (wife Vicki) Stamper Jr. of Middletown; three grandchildren, Bryan Stamper of Middletown, Amanda Stamper of Tampa, Fla., and Erik (wife Victoria) Fuller of Whittier, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delmond Stamper in 1993, and her parents.

Cinda Y. Taylor, 60, of Middletown, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at her residence. She was born Feb. 3, 1940, in Middletown, Ohio, where she was a lifelong resident. She worked for the City of Middletown Water Works Department for 20 years. She is survived by a son, Woody Barker of Cincinnati, a stepdaughter, Tammy Hauck of Golden, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Rick Blackburn, Rob Barker and Sean Gross, all of Golden, Mo., and Patience Barker and Celeste Barker, both of Cincinnati.

Eugene 'Gene' Wells
Eugene "Gene" Wells, 70, of Middletown, passed away early Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000, at his residence. He was born Jan. 3, 1930, in Wilmore, Ky., to Russell Clayton and Ruth (DeBolt) Wells. His mother survives in Dayton. In 1946, he married Wilma Holmes Wells, who passed away on Oct. 18, 1999. Gene and his wife were co-owners of the Speak Easy restaurant in Middletown. He also sold restaurant equipment and designed restaurants and lounges in the Dayton and Middletown areas. He also worked at Alcor in Miamisburg. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Paratroopers, a member of the American Legion Post 165 in Miamisburg, the National Rifle Association and a very active member of the Republican National Committee. He is survived by children, Kenneth and Janice Wells of Middletown, Michael Wells of Franklin, Vicki Lynn and Bill Kimpton of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Deborah K. and Don Ranson of Germantown, and Donna May Morton of Middletown; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald, Shannon, Richard and Arlie Wells; and sisters, Judy Wells and Margaret Whittington. He was preceded in death by his father and his son, Richard in 1962. Gene will be greatly missed by his family and friends and by his most faithful companion, his dog, Duncan.

Albert F. Welter
CENTERVILLE -- Albert F. Welter, 69, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, at his residence following an extended illness. He was retired from Champion International in Middletown in 1985. Previously, he had worked for 28 years at the St. Regis Paper Co. in Toledo from where he retired in 1977; and at Chase Packaging in Toledo. Mr. Welter was a member of the Centerville Christian Fellowship Church. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and support provided by the Dialysis Centers of Dayton-South. Donald R. Whisman, 60, of Middletown, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Jan. 7, 1940, in Franklin, Ohio, to Frank and Ollie (Moore) Whisman. Mr. Whisman was a member of the Breiel Boulevard Church of God and a member of Jefferson Lodge No. 90, Free & Accepted Masons. He worked in facilities management at Middletown Regional Hospital for 16 years, retiring in May 1999. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Linda S. Whisman of Middletown; two sons, Dan (Roxanne) Whisman and David (Mindy) Whisman, both of Middletown; a daughter, Amy (David) French of Middletown; a sister, Wanda F. Thomas E. (Big Tom) Whitaker, 75, of Middletown, departed this life Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital following a long illness. He was born in Maben, Miss., on Feb. 14, 1925, to the late Jake and Lena Whitaker. He was a member of Bethel AME Church under the pastorate of the Rev. James F. Hux III. Thomas was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He worked at Armco Steel Co. for 40 years and retired in 1987. He loved talking with his friends on his citizens band (CB) radio. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James (J.C.) Whitaker. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Zee; seven sons, Bruce and Herbert (Lee Lee) of Middletown, Thomas Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., David of Columbus, Ohio, Thomas (Billy) and Kelsey of Detroit, Mich., and Scott of Denver, Colo.; two stepsons, Joseph Rideaux Sr. of Middletown and L.C. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bethel AME Church, 1507 Yankee Road, with the Rev. James F. Hux III officiating. Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. Arrangements are by Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel, 918 S. Main St.

John M. Wiley
John M. Wiley, 66, a retired officer supervisor, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at his home in King of Prussia, Pa., where he lived for the past 23 years. Mr. Wiley worked for Armco Steel Corp. (now AK Steel), in Philadelphia, Pa., from 1955 until his retirement in 1985. He also worked for Industrial Engineering and Sales Service in Middletown, Sales Service in Indianapolis, Ind., and Sales Correspondent in Louisville, Ky. He recently worked as a school bus driver for Romano Bus Lines. Mr. Wiley was a member of Valley Forge Presbyterian Church in King Prussia, where he was president of the Board of Trustees, an elder, a Sunday school teacher and held many leadership roles. He was also previously a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Middletown, where he was a deacon and advisor to the senior high group, the Second Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis, where he was a deacon and president of the Couples Club and the Meadowview Presbyterian Church in Lousiville, where he was an elder and church treasurer. He taught fifth grade Sunday school, chaired various committees and held leadership roles in each church. He was the founding secretary/treasurer for the Evening Optimist Club in Middletown, the treasurer for Valley Forge Presbyterian nursery school, a member of the Worship Committee in Thousand Trails Preserve in Hershey, Pa., a little league coach and manager, a cub scout cubmaster and committee member. His hobbies were traveling, camping, gardening and collecting model trains. He received a bachelor of science degree in business administration and did post-graduate work at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Mr. Wiley was a U.S. Army veteran in the Third Armored Division, serving from 1955 to 1957. He was a morse code radio operator stationed in Friedberg, Germany, and he was in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1957 to 1963. Born in Middletown on Dec. 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Allen D. and the late Janette (Mount) Wiley. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia B. (Batten) Wiley. Surviving in addition to his wife are two sons, Scott D. Wiley of Severna Park, Md., and Steven J. Wiley of Horsham, Pa.; a daughter, Susan M. Aldrich of Abington, Pa.; nine grandchildren; two brothers, William D. Wiley of Jewett, Ohio, and Thomas L. Wiley of Middletown; a sister, Jane W. Kuckuk of Columbus, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Wiley.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Valley Forge Presbyterian Church, 191 Town Center Road, King of Prussia, Pa. The Rev. Michael A. Dunfee will officiate. Interment will be in the Valley Forge Memorial Gardens, Upper Merion Township, Pa. Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening and from 1 to 1:50 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, both at the church.
