Ada Ellen Harmount
Ada Ellen (Grissom) Harmount, 84, formerly of Middletown, passed away Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., where she had been a patient. Mrs. Harmount was born in Middletown and raised at the Jr. Order Home in Tiffin, Ohio. She returned to Middletown upon graduation and married Richard P. Harmount in 1935. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Church, Fenwick High School Boosters, Forest Hills Country Club and was a consultant for "Beauty Counselors" for many years. In 1992, she moved to California to be near her daughters. Known in her younger years as "Red," she was often as feisty as her nickname implied. She was, however, a great mother and grandmother, fiercely loyal and loving to her only true possessions, her kids. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Hall of Canyon Country, Calif., and Julie (Mark) McArdle of Burbank, Calif.; a son, Terrence (Charlene) Harmount of Bloomville, Ohio; three grandchildren, Megan McArdle, Richard (Janet) Hall and Michael Hall; two great-grandchildren, Richard Hall and Kelly (Ignacio) Romero, all of California; and nieces and nephews. Ada was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Richard; son-in-law, Glenn J. Hall; and her siblings, James, John, Lawrence and Edna (Groves) Grissom.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Church of Holy Family Parish in Middletown at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 17. Father George Klein will officiate.

Edith Horne
Mrs. Edith M. Horne, 89, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in the Hospice of Cincinnati Unit of Mercy Hospital, Hamilton. She was born in West Virginia, July 2, 1911, a daughter of Tom and Myrtle (Bays) Spencer, and married Leonard Horne on Nov. 23, 1932. She had worked as a cook at Liberty Township School and was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church. She and her husband made their home at 6585 Kyles Station Road for many years. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Don Bowling of Hamilton; a granddaughter, Kimberly Thomas (husband, Robert) of Hamilton; a grandson, Steven Bowling (wife, Jill) of Troy; two great-granddaughters, Ashley Thomas of Hamilton and Katy Bowling of Troy; a great-grandson, Evan Bowling of Troy; and a sister, Opal Carter, and brother, Earl Spencer, both of Middletown. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993; her parents; and an infant son, Douglas Horne.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs. Horne had lived at Manor Care Retirement Community the past six years and the family wishes to thank all the wonderful caregivers there, and at the Hospice of Cincinnati for the great care.

Richard L. Hoskins
Richard L. Hoskins, 77, of Monroe, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton. He was born on June 8, 1923, in Middletown, the son of Levi Hoskins and Cecil (Patterson) Hoskins. He was employed by Ohio Bell as a dispatcher. Mr. Hoskins was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 218, a life member of the National Rifle Association, Shamrock Club, Lincoln Lodge 693, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Grand Council Royal and Select Masons No. 136, the Royal Arch Masons, Middletown Chapter No. 87, and the Shrine. He was a World War II veteran serving as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hoskins was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Among his survivors are a special friend, Mary K. Whitlock of Monroe; and a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Frances Hoskins of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne Hoskins in 1971; a daughter, Lisa Smith in March 2000; and his parents.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Lenon Hunter Sr.
Lenon "Lent" Hunter Sr., 66, of 823 Ninth Ave., passed away at Hospice of Dayton Friday, Nov. 10, 2000. A native of Statham, Ga., he was the son of Melvin and Lola Mae Kinney Hunter. He was a resident of Middletown for 50 years and was employed at AK Steel Co. for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1988. A devoted husband and father, he was keenly interested in upward mobility for his family and provided them the comforts of life and enabled them all to become well-rounded citizens in their community. He was a member of the Tried Stone Baptist Church and had an unwavering faith in the power of an eternal God who strengthens each of us and gives us hope for the journey. He is survived by his beloved wife, Viola Arnold Hunter; two sons, Denny Ray Hunter (Candace) of Middletown and Lenon "Chip" Hunter Jr. (Lynette) of Trotwood; three daughters, Chris Edwards (Bill) and Patricia C. Hunter, both of Middletown, and Marsha Hunter of Atlanta; his mother, Lola Mae Hunter of Middletown; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ulysses Hunter (Ann) of Middletown and James Hunter (Sarah) of Athens, Ga.; five sisters, Louise McKnight of Middletown, Barbara Moon of Winder, Ga., Lucille Pate of Cleveland, Christine Woodfin of Chillicothe and Melvenia Farrow of Cincinnati; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Hunter; and a daughter, Barbara Lynn Hunter.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Tried Stone Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald Ford officiating. Interment will be in Woodside Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Arrangements are by Hall-Jordan Memorial Chapel.

Mary E. Layman
FRANKLIN --Mrs. Mary E. (Houser) Layman, wife of Dr. Orville Layman whom she married on June 14, 1932, and a resident of Franklin, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born Mary Elizabeth Houser on June 8, 1907, in Wooster, Ohio, to Clarence True and Mary Edith Houser. Mary was educated in Germantown where she was valedictorian of her graduating class. She attended Normal School in Dayton, Ohio, and graduated with honors from Ohio State University. She also studied art at the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton. She was a teacher at both the elementary and secondary school levels. She taught English and French at Franklin High School in the 1960s. Mary was a loving, devoted wife and mother as well as a community leader. She and her husband, Dr. Orville Layman, were both honored as Franklin's Citizens of the Year. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Franklin, member of the Franklin Library Board, Girls Scouts of America, Great Books Club, Ten O' Clock Scholars and Big Deal Club. She was also a member of several bridge clubs, Brown's Run Country Club and the Franklin Golf Club. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Orville Layman in 1988; two sons, Bill in 1975 and Robert in 1993; and a brother, Weber Houser of West Carrollton, Ohio. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Jane of Franklin; and a sister, Katherine Hurlburt of Pensacola, Fla.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Nov. 14, at Unglesby-Anderson Funeral Home, 1357 E. Second St. in Franklin. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Franklin on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 4:30 p.m.

Paul E. Longworth
GRATIS -- Paul E. Longworth, 72, of Gratis, Ohio, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on Oct. 15, 1928, to Charles and Carrie (King) Longworth. He was a Navy veteran and an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Longworth had retired from General Motors in 1983 after 37 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gratis. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Lena Longworth of Gratis; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ritchie and Laura Ann Longworth of Germantown and David and Susan Longworth of Trenton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carrie "Peanut" and Larry Matthews of Gratis; 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother Robert Lewis Longworth of Carlisle; and two sisters, Margaret Gilbert of Franklin and Mary Scauzillo of Yonkers, N.Y. Paul was also blessed with a precious church family and a host of friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the First Baptist Church in Gratis, Ohio, with the Rev. Frankie Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Gratis. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Glenn M. Owens Sr.
Glenn M. Owens Sr. (Slim), 82, of Middletown, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa Bay, Fla. He was born in May 16, 1918, in Franklin and lived all his life in the Middletown area. Mr. Owens was a ladel crane operator at Armco Steel for 34 years, retiring in 1974. He liked pitching horseshoes and gardening was his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille E. Owens, in 1994; brothers, Park Owens, Archie Owens and Cliff Owens; a sister, Guyula Cook; and his parents, Elbert Steven and Pearl (Cox) Owens. He is survived by sons Glenn Owens Jr. and wife Sandy of Trenton, and Robert Owens of Middletown; a daughter, Virginia Slusher of Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Sadie Miller of Carlisle; a brother, Irvin Owens of Middletown; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Joseph Baker-Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Eric Brazelton officiating. Burial will be at Miltonville Cemetery.

Roger Lee Patrick Sr.
Roger Lee Patrick Sr., 66, formerly of Gratis, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Clermont, Fla. He had been residing in Groveland, Fla., for the past two years. Mr. Patrick was born on Oct. 16, 1934, in West Liberty, Ky., to Beecher and Kathleen (Bishop) Patrick. He was a U.S. Army veteran and had worked most of his life as a self-employed general contractor. He is survived by his wife, Frances Patrick of Groveland; six sons, Billy Patrick of Groveland, Roger Patrick Jr. and Randy Patrick, both of Coco Beach, Fla., Ricky Patrick of Orlando, Fla., Rusty Patrick of Blue Eye, Mo., and Robby Patrick of Baltimore; three daughters, Kathleen Sorandus of Baltimore, Patricia Turner of Mims, Fla., and Bobbi Jo Riley of Franklin; and two brothers, Rex Patrick of Germantown and Ronald Patrick of Deland, Fla.

Sandra Elaine Pelfrey (McKinney)
Sandy Elaine Pelfrey, 52, of Barbara Parke Care Center, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000. She was born in Omer, Ky., in 1948, the daughter of Owen and Neva McKinney. She is described by her children as a survivor through hardships of life who kept the good fight of faith. She enjoyed kids and music. She "loved us and stuck by our side through it all," her children said, adding, "She was there." Ms. Pelfrey is survived by a son, Curt Pelfrey, of Middletown; a daughter, Nikki Shaekelford, of Middletown; a son, Chris Pelfrey, of Middletown; one granddaughter, Brittany Shaekelford, of Middletown; her mother, Neva McKinney of Middletown; brother, Vondal Ray of Virginia; sister, Dean Rolling of Lewisburg; brothers, Gary McKinney of Cincinnati, and Owen Jr. of Middletown; a sister, Linda Tipton of Middletown; brothers, Jerry McKinney of Mississippi, and David McKinney of Trenton; a sister, Bonnie Duff of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anthony A. Penny
Anthony Alexander Penny, son of Darrell and Melissa Penny, of 1940 Brentwood St., died at birth on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Dallas, at home; paternal grandparents, Larry and Zareda Penny; maternal grandparents Diane Jones and Mike and Karen Jones; great-grandparents Mary Lou and Harvey Jones, Henry and Jean Sheffield, Darrell and Jeannette Wallace, Betty "Gee" Tenhover, and Bill and Rosa Lee Porter; aunts Heather Jones and Katrina Saltz; uncle Aaron Saltz; special cousin Angie Buccalo; and numerous cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles, and many friends. He will be missed.

Don A. Reckart
Don Allen Reckart, 63, of 3601 Southeast 5th Avenue, Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Middletown, died at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Tampa Hospital, Tampa, Fla. He was born in Newburg, W.Va., in 1937, the son of the late George and Mildred (Moon) Reckart. He had lived in Florida for 20 years. Mr. Reckart was formerly employed in the scheduling department at Armco Steel Co. in Middletown. He worked at Armco for 25 years before retiring for health reasons in 1980. He loved all sports. He married Barbara Lewis in Middletown at the Grand Avenue Church of God. Among his survivors are his wife, Barbara, of Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother, George Reckart, and his wife, Mary, of Trenton; a stepson, Gary Reckart of Ohio; a granddaughter, Jessica Reckart of Cape Coral; his father-in-law and mother-in -law, Harmon and Louise Borders of Lebanon, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His remains were cremated. Mr. Reckart was a strong advocate of organ donations and donated his own eyes to a needy person in Tampa, Fla. Coral Ridge Funeral Home in Cape Coral, Fla., handled the arrangements.

Joseph L. Seaman Jr.
Former Middletown resident Joseph "Joe" Lane Seaman Jr., 72, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at the Port Charlotte Regional Health Center in Florida. He had resided in Florida for many years. He was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Jan. 10, 1928, the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Mincher) Seaman. Joe joined the Navy in 1945. He served in the Pacific theater as a third class radioman aboard the U.S.S. Thurston and was discharged on July 27, 1946. He graduated from Middletown High School after service in 1947 and attended Ohio University for three years. Mr. Seaman worked as a cabinetmaker for several months and then farmed 160 acres on Elk Creek Road. Surviving are cousins Dan Humphreys of Middletown, Mike McMurray of Lebanon, Geraldine (Mincher) Yost of Middletown and Jane Lemser Gonzales of Cincinnati. Out-of-town relatives include an aunt, Josephine Mincher Blair of Florida, Sue Blair Lemser of Denver, Colo., Nancy Berkey Cole of Florida, Jim Calder of California and Nancy Calder of Florida.
ARRANGEMENTS: The family will meet at the Mincher grave site at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown on Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at noon. Interment will be at the family's convenience.

Harrison E. Taylor
Harrison Eugene "Gene" Taylor, 77, of Centerville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at his home. Gene was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Jan. 7, 1923, to Herschel H. and Helen (Gloeckler) Taylor. He attended schools in Springboro and Dayton, Ohio, and Jacksonville Beach, Fla., where he graduated in 1940. Gene served in the Army during World War II as a truck driver on the famous "Red Ball Express" supply route in Europe. He was a skilled craftsman in his work and his hobbies. He worked as a model maker and plastics technician, retiring from Walt Disney World in 1992. He was a member of St. Leonard's Faith Community in Centerville, Ohio, and St. Margaret Mary Church in Winter Park, Fla. Gene is survived by his devoted wife, Ruth C. (Wuebben) Taylor of Dayton; two sons, Richard E., and his wife, Jayne, of Vermillion, S.D., and Thomas E. Taylor of Dayton; three grandchildren, Audrey O. Taylor, Andrew E. Taylor and Austin E. Taylor, all of Vermillion, S.D.; a brother, James, and his wife, Marilyn Taylor, of Kettering; a sister, Margie, and her husband, William Dugan, of Middletown; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Thelma Wagner
Mrs. Thelma Wagner, 79, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000. She was born in Middletown, Ohio, on July 31, 1921, and was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Wagner had worked as a dispatcher for Bob Wise Truck Service for 32 years and retired in 1983. She was a member of Amanda United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her parents, David A. and Ina Catherine Wells. She leaves her loving husband of 58 years, Roger Wagner; two daughters and their husbands, Katherine and Vernon DeBord of Middletown and Nola and Keith Reed of Virginia Beach, Va.; granddaughters Lisa Johnson, Darla Wiley, Tami Howard, and her husband, Matt, Teri Simpson, and her husband, Ken, Heather Malbon, and husband, Tim, and Holly Reed; 12 great-grandchildren; an uncle, Vernon Mercer, and his wife, Beth, of Middletown; and a nephew, Denny Wagner.

Pertella Watkins
Ms. Pertella Watkins, 83, passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Barbara Parke Care Center. A native of Honea Path, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Patella Cox Watkins. A lifetime resident of Middletown, she attended Middletown Public Schools and was an active member of the Second Baptist Church, where she participated in many organizations. She is survived by a sister, Frances Pleasant of Philadelphia; three nephews, Enoch Watkins Jr. of Middletown, Michael Pleasant of Philadelphia and Daryl Watkins of Cincinnati; and three nieces, Verna Bradshaw of Cincinnati, Karen McLeod of Philadelphia and Laronda Baggett of Dayton.

Charlotte K. Weinel
Charlotte K. Weinel, 79, of Germantown, passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Reed Memorial Hospital in Richmond, Ind. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Farmersville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Weinel, on April 28, 2000, to whom she was married for 64 years; a son, John; and four sisters and two brothers. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Iluminada Weinel of Farmersville, and Darrel and Sharon Weinel of Germantown; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Charles Boggs of Eaton; a daughter-in-law, Linda Weinel of Miamisburg; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other friends and relatives.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, Miamisburg, with Pastor Tom Vorhis officiating. Burial will be at Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Aurilla Young
Mrs. Aurilla Young, 88, a resident of the Otterbein Retirement Community, passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000. She was born in Dayton, Jan. 5, 1912, the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Zimmer) Murray and moved to Otterbein in 1981. She was a member of the Otterbein Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Simon of Santa Fe, N.M.; a son, the Rev. Charles Young of Sitka, Alaska; five grandchildren, David Simon, Karen Roberts, Susan Simon, Allison Young and Christopher Young; great-grandchildren Natalie Oberer and Nicholas Roberts; and by a brother, John Murray of Dayton. Her husband, Jesse B. Young, preceded her in death in 1977. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Murray.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Otterbein Methodist Church, 585 N. Ohio 741, Lebanon, with Pastor Keith Eipper officiating. Reba E. Atkinson
Reba E. Atkinson, 81, of Middletown, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 1, 2000, at the Barbara Parke Care Center. She was born on Sept. 5, 1919, in Warren County, Ohio. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Watkins of Middletown; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Miami-Corwin Cemetery in Waynesville, Ohio. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are by Breitenbach-McCoy-Leffler Funeral Home.

Bill Cain
Bill Cain, 80, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on Sept. 1, 1920, the son of Andrew and Bertha (Ratliff) Cain. Mr. Cain was vice president of the John Fitzgerald Lodge No. 2 Fraternal Order of Police Associates. He worked for the Butler County Sheriff's Department as a patrolman and detective. Later, he worked for Sorg Paper Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1982. Surviving are his wife, Marie; his mother, Bertha Cain of Fairfield Township, Ohio; a son, Steven A. (Linda) Cain of Hamilton; a stepson, David A. Caldwell of Middletown; two sisters, Laverne Augspurger of Hamilton and Marguerite Price of California; and three grandchildren, Andy, Sara and Emily Cain. His father, Andrew Cain, preceded him in death.

Robert M. Day
Robert M. Day, 86, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away at 7:05 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at his residence. He was born on July 15, 1914, to Joseph S. Day and Pearl V. (Farmer) Day in Middletown. He graduated from Middletown High School in 1932. He worked in his father's grocery store, Day's Grocery on Grimes Street. During the 1930s and 1940s, he traveled the country playing saxophone in many big bands of the era. Among them were the Benny Goodman and Woody Herman bands. He married Doris Abney of Middletown in 1934. They lived in Wichita, Kan., from 1945 until 1968 when they returned to Middletown. Mr. Day was employed as a musician for 40 years, retiring in 1974. He was also employed at Worthmore Clothes Shop from 1968 to 1976. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Musicians Union. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Day; and three brothers, Paul J. Day in 1982, Herschel W. Day in 1998 and Charles R. Day, earlier this year. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris (Abney) Day; two sons and their wives, Joseph R. and Janice Day of Second Mesa, Ariz., and John C. and Rose Day of Tsaile, Ariz.; two daughters, Judith A. Day of Middletown and Janet E. Sweeney, and husband, Ronald, of Moraine, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jonathan Day, Maya Slep, Michael and Joseph Santiago, and Kristel and Carson Day; two great-grandchildren, Mimi Slep and Jordan Santiago; a brother, Thomas Day, and his wife, Clara, of Cleveland, Ohio; four sisters, Bonnie Griswold, and husband, Jim, of Exeter, N.H., Marjorie Frederick, and husband, C.W., of Glasgow, Ky., Joanne Sellers, and husband, Richard, of Seaford, Del., and Marilyn Day of Westerville, Ohio; and three sisters-in-law, Sue, Elizabeth and Dorothy Day.

Monnie Hatcher
Mrs. Monnie A. Garretson Hatcher, 81, formerly of Middletown, passed away Friday in Suffolk, Va. She was born in Odd, W.Va., on Nov. 15, 1918, the daughter of Abraham and Louzina (Bolen) Garretson. She was a devoted housewife and dear mother. Mrs. Hatcher had belonged to the Free Pentecostal Holiness Church. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Mae Mills of Suffolk, Va.; two sons, Glennis H. Bell of Cleveland and Howard D. Bell of West Chester; two stepdaughters, Julia Annell Hall and Anna Lee Short, both of Middletown; a stepson, Walter Howard Hatcher of Middletown; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her husband of 46 years, Walter Howard Hatcher Sr., preceded her in death in 1998.

Nellie Tague Heath
Nellie Tague Heath, 92, of Lawrenceburg Township, Ind., formerly of Cleves, Ohio, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000. She was the devoted mother of Patsy Collins (Bernard), Rozella Holcomb (James), JoAnn Folke (the late Floyd), Russell Heath (Patricia) and Larry Heath (Hope) of Middletown. She was the sister of Juanita LeRoux (Ron), Frances Peters (Alberta) and the late Harold (Helen), Marion and Leonard Peters. Other survivors include sisters-in-law Betty Miller (Burton) and Edna Swift (the late John); 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren.

Helen Louise Hillard
Helen Louise Hillard, 86, of 2479 Compton Hill Road, West Union, Ohio, and former Franklin resident, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday at Adams County Hospital in West Union. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on Nov. 30, 1913, the daughter of William and Ethel (McMullen) Biskop. Preceding her in death was her husband Edward A. Hillard in 1981, a daughter Virginia, a brother Alfred Biskop and a sister Marie Schulthiss. Surviving are five sons, Jerry Alfred Hillard and wife Carol of Glendale, Ariz.; Irvin Biskop and wife Bonnie of Seaman; Paul Hillard and wife Pat of Franklin; Chuck Hillard and wife Cindy of West Union; Dutch Hillard and wife Pearl of Franklin; a daughter Diana Hanes and husband Sonny of West Union; 22 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Terrence Hogan
HAMILTON --Terrence "Terry" Hogan, 44, of Hamilton, passed away at University Hospital of Cincinnati on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at 2:23 p.m. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on March 6, 1956, the son of William and Mary Margaret (Brand) Hogan. Terry was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church. He was very active in youth sports as a coach and an umpire in baseball and basketball and was a dedicated fan. He received a bachelor of arts degree in accounting from Wilmington College in 1979 and his master's of business administration from Xavier University in 1984. He was the owner and president of Miami Valley Aviation, managing Middletown Hook Field Municipal Airport for the last 13 years. On Sept. 6, 1980, in Hamilton, he was married to Lisa Hollister. He is survived by his mother, Mary Margaret Hogan of Hamilton; two sons, Brad Hogan and Matthew Hogan, both of Hamilton; one daughter, Laura Hogan of Hamilton; four brothers, Patrick (Karen) Hogan of Hamilton, Michael Hogan of Middletown, Timothy (Jill Anne) Hogan of Deerfield, Ill., and William (Sally) Hogan of San Francisco, Calif.; one sister, Mary Margaret "Peggy" (Paul) Jacquemin of Plain City, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his father.

Charles E. Kling
FRANKLIN -- Charles E. Kling, 85, of Franklin, Ohio, passed away Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born in Bethel, Ohio, on April 17, 1915. Mr. Kling was employed as a back tender at Diamond International where he had worked for 43 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Middletown Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Kling in 1992. Survivors include two sisters, Bernice Marie Wilson and Ruth Evelyn Baker, both of Middletown; and a friend, George Coyner of Franklin.

Nadia Larimore
Nadia Larimore, 63, of 2405 Superior Ave., Middletown, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born in Springboro on June 21, 1937, the daughter of Vaughn and Sarah (Kelly) Burroughs. She graduated from Springboro High School and the Middletown Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse with Dr. Hurlburt for 26 years and also at LCI for five years, retiring in 1995. Preceding her in death was her father Vaughn. Surviving are her husband of 41 years Jack Larimore; three daughters, Luann Miller of Lebanon, Beth Fitzgerald of Middletown, and Jill Zook of Deland, Fla.; her mother Sarah Burroughs Duncan of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister Claudia Logan of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two aunts Donna Boomershine of Germantown and Mary Burroughs of Middletown.

Mrs. Mae T. Long, 90, of Middletown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Willow Knoll Nursing Home. Mrs. Long was a homemaker. She was born in Miamisburg, Ohio, on Aug. 19, 1910, and was a lifelong resident of this area. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Long; and her parents, Charles and Anna Kesling. She leaves a son, Tom Clark (Cinthia) of Crossville, Tenn.; a daughter, Patricia Pantone of Kalaheo, Kauai, Hawaii; two stepdaughters, Barbara Jones of Middletown and Susanne Ware of Lebanon; and a granddaughter, Tiffany Trisha Clark of Denver, Colo.

Leroy Mac Donald
Leroy Mac Donald, 57, of Odessa, Fla., formerly of Middletown, went to be with his Lord and maker Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, at his residence. His loving daughters, son-in-law, and grandson and a few of his close friends were at his side. Leroy was born in Middletown, Ohio, on Nov. 25, 1942, to Armour and Viola Mac Donald and attended Middletown city schools. He worked for Poffenbarger Construction Co. for 14 years and owned Leroy's Recreation Center before moving to Florida. Mr. Mac Donald worked for the Tampa International Airport as building maintenance supervisor until his retirement earlier this year due to pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his second parents, Curt and Sophie Poffenbarger of Punta Gorda, Fla. He leaves to cherish his memory, four daughters, Tammy Gabbard and Judy Carberry, and her husband, Mike, all of Middletown, Ohio, Cindy Sorrell of Monroe and Sophia Mac Donald of Columbus; four grandchildren Mary Beth Swain of Franklin and Ryan Scott Fields, Natalie Jean Haddix and Cameron Michael Carberry, all of Middletown; a great-grandson to be born in March 2001; two brothers, David of Miami, Fla., and Armour Jr. of Middletown; dear and close friends and fishing buddies, Robert Jay of Franklin, Ohio, and co-worker Tony Mascia of Tampa, Fla.; devoted neighbors Geegee and Teresa Alvary of Odessa, Fla.; a close and personal friend, Phyllis Heed, who will care for his companion, "Buttons" the cat. Leroy also leaves numerous other friends and co-workers in the Odessa and Tampa Bay area too numerous to mention.
ARRANGEMENTS: He will be cremated by the National Cremation Society of Florida and his ashes disbursed out over his favorite fishing lake where he spent many hours fishing with his friends. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. A memorial service for family and friends was held Monday, Nov. 6, at his residence. Leroy will be truly missed, but his body and mind are at peace now.

Charles D. McClure
Charles Douglas McClure, 68, of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at 2:30 p.m. at Mercy North Hospital in Hamilton where he had been a patient for 69 days. He was born on Aug. 21, 1932, in Daysboro, Ky. He has lived in Ohio for 38 years. Mr. McClure was employed as a printer for Color Pac for 15 years and in maintenance at Georgia Pacific for 12 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the University Baptist Church of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Leslie and Dora (Arnett) McClure; his wife, Dorothy McClure in 1975; and a sister, Betty Jo Oney in 1999. He is survived by three daughters, Brenda S. Nickell, and husband, Fred, of Middletown, Sandy Spurlin of Middletown and Linda J. Volk, and husband, Neil, of Mason; eight grandchildren, Ginger Nickell, and her fiancé, Matt, Adam Johnson, Dorothy Nickell, Sarah Spurlin, and her fiancé, Randy, Frances Johnson, Sam Spurlin, Elizabeth Volk and Jacob Volk; a sister, Kathleen Sedgewick of Cincinnati; and a special friend, Jean Risner of Middletown.

Brian S. McGill
Brian Scott McGill, 41, of Middletown, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1959, in Middletown, the son of Robert McGill and Lois Jean (Snelling) McGill. Mr. McGill was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his mother, Lois Jean McGill of Middletown; a son, Brian McGill of Trenton; a sister, Shellie Hagen of Atlanta, Ga.; and his girlfriend, Penny of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert McGill.

Earl D. Passmore Jr.
Earl David "Big Ern" Passmore Jr., 17, of Middletown, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, while driving home from a church revival in Dayton, Ohio. Earl was born on Jan. 12, 1983, in Middletown, Ohio. Earl was united with Christ at an early age under the pastorate of the Rev. N.L. Cooper Sr. of Middletown. He later joined the Living Water Full Gospel Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio, under the direction of Bishop Samuel R. Johnson Sr. Earl had accomplished many achievements in his 17 years of life. He was involved in the youth ministries as a youth leader. He was also responsible for audio and video programming and had recently completed his Christian education class for which he earned a certificate. Earl was a senior at Middletown Senior High School where he also excelled. He was a member of the Middletown Middies football team, but his studies took first priority. Earl was recently inducted into the Middletown High School National Honor Society, Spanish Club and Multicultural Leadership Club. Earl was employed by Lee's Family Restaurant since June 1999, and had also been employed by Domino's Pizza. With all of this, he attained a 4.0 GPA in his classes. Earl leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted mother, Sonya Y. Love-Lyles; his father, Early David Passmore Sr.; two special fathers, Steven Lyles and Andre Walker; sisters Monique L. Passmore and Monica D. Passmore; very special brother, Imani Z. Gresham; paternal grandfather, Nathaniel Passmore Sr.; great-great-grandmother, Gussie Mae Moultry; two nieces, Tyra M. Smith and Ariana M. Smith; special family friend, Kimberly E. Carl E. Powers
LEBANON -- Carl E. Powers, 65, of 2023 W. Pekin Road, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at his residence. He was born on March 18, 1935, in Menifee County, Ky., the son of Claude and Louise (Thompson) Powers. He was employed by B.G. Danis Construction. After his retirement, he also worked as a self-employed contractor for several years. Mr. Powers will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend and was active as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Preceding him in death were his father and wife, Edith, in September, 2000. He is survived by his mother, Louise Powers of Frenchburg, Ky.; daughters Lori Skidmore, and husband, Colin, of Springboro, and Brandi Powers of Lebanon; and sisters Phyllis Rhule of Franklin and Evelyn Morgan of Englewood, Fla.

Arthur E. Sexton
Arthur E. Sexton, 91, born July 6, 1909, in Morgan County, Ky., a longtime farmer of Menifee County, Ky., passed away at the Hawthorn Glen Nursing Home in Middletown, Ohio, on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Rhoda Craft Sexton; and brothers Ernie and Luther; a sister, Virgie Sexton; one grandchild; and a brother-in-law, Drexel Williams. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Sarah Nickell Sexton, who resides at the Hawthorn Glen Nursing Home; his brother, Wilmer Sexton (wife Bernice) of Middletown; four sisters, Mary Lou Mays of Wellington, Ky., Inza Williams and Aretta Taggart (husband Melvin) of Trenton, Ohio, and Jewell Pierce (husband Dillard) of Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Sexton had eight grandchildren, Alvin Sexton (wife Midge), Marie Hale (husband Vernal), Mary Tucker (husband Bill), Ruby Saylor (husband Greg), and Ruth Helton (husband Johnny), all of Middletown, Voneda Hale (husband Charles) of Mariba, Ky., Lena Moore (husband Bill) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ernie Sexton (wife Molly) of Grandbury, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pauline Shockey
Pauline Shockey, 65, of Middletown, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000 at Middletown Regional Hospital. She was born March 6, 1935 in Wolf County, Ky. She was the daughter of Lee and Stella Risner. She lived most of her life in Middletown. She devoted 25 years of her life as a caregiver for the elderly. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Risner; one brother, Carl Risner; and one sister, Wanda Roberts. She is survived by husband Garry "Rex" Shockey; mother Stella Trent; three daughters, Connie Shockey of Middletown, Charlotte Chumley of Lexington, Ky. and Sandy Vest of Hazel Green, Ky.; four grandchildren, Brooke Shockey, David and Eric Chumley and Tina Finch; one great grandson Garrett Austin Lee Finch; six sisters, Helen Sweeney and Fern Wheeler, both of Middletown, Mary Risner of Lexington, Ky. and Maxine McGuire, Nellie Wooldridge and Sharon Crase, all of Campton, Ky.; and brother Darrell Risner of Camden, Ohio. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends whom she loved very much.

Thelma Simonton
MIAMISBURG -- Mrs. Thelma M. Simonton, 97, of Miamisburg, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at Christel Manor of Miamisburg. Thelma was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on April 23, 1903, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Mier) Theiss. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernard in 1963; and by two sons, Louis (Bud) in 1988, and Vern in 1999. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Paul J. and Carmen Simonton of Middletown; two daughters-in-law, Elaine Simonton of California and Dorothy Simonton of Miamisburg; a sister-in-law, Virginia Theiss of Hamilton; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Hubert L. Sixt
GERMANTOWN -- Hubert L. Sixt, 91, of Germantown, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at Sycamore Hospital. Mr. Sixt was born on Sept. 18, 1909, to the late Mathias F. and Elba (Guiler) Sixt. He retired from Frigidaire in 1970 after 28 years of service and was a member of Emmanuel's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Germantown Senior Citizens, 4-F Group and T.O.M.S. Club. Mr. Sixt was a former board member of the Germantown Board of Education, the Montgomery County Board of Education, the former Montgomery County Joint Vocational School and the Germantown Lions Club. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Sixt, and his sister, Zelma Gilbert. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Doris (Bussard) Sixt; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Dr. Joseph "Buzzy" Pierce of Germantown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Barbara Sixt of Northville, Mich., and John W. and Cynthia Sixt of Centerville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Aaron and Geoffrey Pierce, Eric Lansaw, Holly Brown, Heather Kuzma, and Christopher, Cameron and Keishiro Sixt; five great-grandchildren, Ryan and Paige Brown, Kyle and Alexandra Sixt and Noah Kuzma; and a sister, Glenna Theiss of Trenton, Ohio.

The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Emmanuel's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 30 W. Warren St., Germantown, with Pastor Michael A. Havey officiating. Burial will be in Germantown Cemetery.

Donald J. Snelling
Donald J. Snelling, 64, of Middletown, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000. He died in Middletown Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness. Donald was born on Feb. 26, 1936, in Middletown, to Claude and Estella Mae Snelling. He graduated from Middletown High School and lived in Middletown all of his life. Donald devoted his life to his family and his church. He attended St. John's Church and was a member of Cutting Edge Ministries. He retired from Armco Steel Co. after 35 years of service in the No. 2 Open Hearth and the maintenance garage. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carmela (Forni) Snelling. He is also survived by four sons, Randy Lee (Cathy) Snelling, Gregory Scott (Barbara) Snelling and Christopher Jay (Lisa) Snelling, all of Middletown, and David Todd Snelling of Cincinnati; five grandchildren; eight brothers, Bill (Ruth), Paul (Corrine), John (Linda), Jack, Eugene (Reed), Larry (Kathy), Michael (Shirley), and Thomas (Jenny) Snelling; three sisters, Betty (Marvin) Dearth, Kathy (John) James, and Cheryl Snelling; beloved sister-in-law, Jean Gabbard; brother-in-law, Whitey (Julia) Huff; and dear friends, Bud and Mandy Williams and Patty Morgan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Claude Snelling Jr. and Rick Snelling; and a sister, Eloise Snelling.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with Father John Civille and the Rev. Vincent Williams officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Woodside Cemetery.

Gerald L. Williams
Gerald L. Williams, 66, of Middletown, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at his residence. He was born in Middletown on June 3, 1934, the son of Charles and Mary Ethel Williams. Mr. Williams worked as an aircraft mechanic for Eastern Airlines in Florida. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed boating in his free time. Surviving are a son, Mike G. Williams of Middletown; two daughters, Sheila R. Woodworth of Middletown and Deborah A. (Ed) Miller of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, Harold Williams of Florida; a sister, Phyllis McClure of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren, Taylor, Lindsay, Jerry, Crystal, Mike, Trisha, Lacey and Tammy; and two great-grandchildren, David and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Charles Williams; and a grandson, Doug.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home, with the Rev. C. Nolan Phillips officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Esther L. Williams
Mrs. Esther L. Williams, 76, of Middletown, Ohio, passed away at 1:20 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at Middletown Regional Hospital, where she had been in and out of the hospital as a patient since Sept. 1. She was born in Blue Diamond, Ky., and had lived in Middletown since 1954. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Linda (Roysdon) Byrge; three brothers, George, Cleo and C.B. Byrge; and a sister, Reva Hoskins. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Raymond Williams; three daughters, Linda Christine Williams of Middletown, Debbie Raye Tuttle, and husband, Dennis, of Franklin, Ohio, and Ruthie Jean Botos, and husband, Frank, of Middletown; six grandchildren, Lesa, Natasha, Joshua and Matthew Tuttle, Tommy Botos and Scotty Trammel; a great-granddaughter, Stevie Tuttle; three sisters, Ada Dunn of Hazard, Ky., Dallas Nance of Middletown and Zelma Campbell, and her husband, Brack, of Middletown; a brother, Harold Byrge, and his wife, Shirley, of Middletown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Herr-Riggs Funeral Home, 210 S. Main St., Middletown, where funeral services were concluded at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6. The Rev. Bobby F. Reed officiated. Entombment followed at Butler County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Trenton, Ohio.

Marguerite Wright
Marguerite Wright, 93, of the Willow Knoll Convalescent Center, passed away Saturday morning. She was born Feb. 25, 1907, at Clay City, Ky., the daughter of Hugh and Cynthia Staton Mearns. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia D. and Wayne Triplett of Monroe; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald G. and Bert Wright of Eaton, six grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wright and a son, Charles Wright.
ARRANGEMENTS: Graveside services will be held at the Woodside Cemetery at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, with the Rev. James R. Compton officiating.
