Byron King

01/08/1954 - 09/03/2014

Byron Wade King, age 60 and a resident of Konawa, Okla., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Ada, Okla.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Rev. Ed George will officiate. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Herman Clark, Steve Mullins, Jeffery King, Chad Foster, Armando Olvera, and Brent Walker.

Honorary pallbearers are John Walker, Robbie Doolen, Andy Doolen, Leo Kuestersteffen, Jimmy Morehead, Harrison Doolen, Darrel Berry, and Freddie Carpenter.

Byron was born on Jan. 8, 1954 in Midwest City, Okla. to Joe King and Fern (Doolen) King.

He was a graduate of Konawa High School and worked as a roughneck for the oilfield.

Byron was a member of the Vamoosa Baptist Church.

He loved fishing, and he loved his grandchildren very much.

He is survived by his mother, Fern King of Konawa; one daughter, Chanelle Foster of Konawa; one sister, Julie Henderson and husband, Leslie of Konawa; and one brother, Jon King and wife, Charla of Sasakwa, Okla.; five grandchildren, Kristin George, Jeffery King, Ireland King, Cason Foster, and Colt Foster; two nieces, ShiAnn Henderson and Kayden King; and three nephews, Wacey Henderson, Kellan King, and Kylar King.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe King; one son, Jason King; and one brother, Scott King.

Vinson Kirk

Vinson Ray Kirk, 66, resident of Konawa, Okla. died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at his home.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Gina Teel will officiate.

Pallbearers are Bud Moore, Bo Honsinger, Randy Heard, Carey Kirk, R.W. Vietzke, II, and Cylas Foster.

Honorary pallbearers are Russell Kirk, Mike Campbell, and Todd Bowles.

He was born Oct. 10, 1947 in Sulphur, Okla. to Stephen Kirk, Jr. and Mavis (Column) Kirk.

He graduated from Roff High School and served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.

He worked as a pipline foreman.

He married Pamela Smith on Feb. 14, 2005 in Ada, Okla.

He is survived by his parents, Steve and Mavis Kirk of Vanoss, Okla.; his wife, Pamela (Smith) Kirk of the home; two step-sons, Jeremy Walsh, of Konawa and R.W. Vietzke, II of Ada, Okla.; three daughters, Vallerie Vales of Sulphur, Bridget Campbell of Konawa, and Misty Bowles of Vamoosa, Okla.; one step-daughter, Cherri Walsh of Seminole; one brother, Carey Kirk of Fitzhugh, Okla.; four sisters, Angela Marvin of Wanette, Okla., Ellen Barnett of Roff, Okla., Brenda Phillips of Ada, and Darlene Mischinick of Mineola, Tex.; sixteen grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn (Reeves) Kirk; one son, Christopher Kirk; one brother, Dwain Kirk; one sister, Irene Davis; grandparents, Stephen Henry Kirk and Susie Kirk and Marion Column, and Maggie Column.

Verba Krasowski

Verba Lee Hardin Krasowski, 88, longtime Seminole, Okla. resident, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 in Shawnee, Okla.

Verba was born Sept. 16, 1925 in Cromwell, Okla. to Ed and Bertie ( McClellan) Hardin.

Verba grew up in the Cromwell and Seminole areas and was a devoted Private Home Health Caregiver in Oklahoma City, Okla. for many years, before her retirement.

Verba was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole and a lifetime member of the Eastern Star.

Verba loved to spend her time with her family and grandchildren.

Verba was the last of the Hardin children born during the Oklahoma Oil Boom Days.

She is survived by her son Charles Nev Krasowski of Wenatchee, Wash. and her daughter Tina Ann Lewis and husband Johnny of Shawnee. Her grandchildren Teresa Harrigan-Holmes, Nathan Krasowski, Esther Krasowski, Seth Krasowski, Benjamin Krasowski, John Krasowski, Anna Krasowski, Christopher Etheridge, Joshua Etheridge and Jonathan Etheridge and eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church in Seminole on Wrangler Blvd. Officiating at the services will be Jim Collier and Terry Penn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Steve and Bert Hardin and sisters Ann Evans and Pearl Curry.

Memorial services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.

Walter Kyles

Walter Lee Kyles, 60, of Oklahoma City, Okla., died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014 at Oklahoma City.

Walter was born Aug. 27, 1953 in Monroeville, Ala. to Joe Nathan and Rachel (Stallworth) Kyles.

Walter graduated from High School in Pensacola, Fla. and attended trade school and received his certified nurse assistant degree.

He entered the U.S. Army and after his service time, he worked in construction and later retired as a produce manager from Wal-Mart.

Walter is survived by a son Donald Lewis of Atmore, Ala.; two brothers, Robert E. Kyles of Atlanta, Ga. and Joe Isaac Kyles of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mamie L. Stephens and J. Ann Sehatti of Oklahoma City; four nieces, Lorna Harper of Oklahoma City, Sarah Sehatti of Oklahoma City, Latasha Kyle of Sierra, Ariz., and Felicia Kyle of Las Vegas, Nev.; four nephews, Stevie Kyles of Sierra, Ariz., Teddy Kyles of Atlanta, Ga., Marcus Penn and J. Mar Penn of Mobile, Ala.

He is also survived by six great nieces, Veronica Kyles and Samantha Kyles of Sierra, Ariz., Ekime and Emonti Kyles of Atlanta, Ga., Tahni and Mariah Kyles of Sacramento, Calif. and one great nephew, Jonathan Kyles of Las Vegas, Nev. and a host of grandchildren and cousins.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at the Machpelah Cemetery at the Ethiopian Reform Coptic Church of Christ located on Nobletown Road east of Seminole, Okla., and with military honors.

Bob Laird

Bob Laird, 83 year-old, lifelong Maud area resident passed from this life on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 in Tecumseh, Okla.

He was born Jan. 10, 1930, the youngest of 11 children to Lee and Minnie Mae (Barrick) Laird.

At the time of his birth, the Laird family was living around Thorn Lake in the Punkin Center area (north east of Maud).

They moved to Maud in the late 1940’s. After Lee’s death in 1937, Minnie and Bob continued living in Maud.

Bob did odd jobs around town to supplement Minnie’s income.

He mowed lawns, hauled hay and worked as a roustabout in the oilfields. He took care of his mother until her death in 1981.

Bob was an icon in Maud, he would make daily trips, always walking uptown to people watch and to catch a good conversation.

Bob always greeted you with a smile from under his big cowboy hat and a comment about the weather.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews as well as a host of other family and friends.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Minnie Laird; five brothers and five sisters, Erastus Truitt, Vera, Raymond, Velma Eberly, Nigel, Thurman, Herman, Minnie Lee, William and Lahoma.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud with Glen Williams officiating the service.

Services are under the direction of Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home in Maud.

Geraldine Lancaster

Geraldine (Vaughan) Lancaster, 77 year old, longtime Seminole resident passed from this life on Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Collinsville, Okla.

She was born Dec. 30, 1936 in Seminole, Okla. to parents, Austin W. Vaughan and Charlene (Shaffer) Vaughan.

Following graduation Geraldine worked as a bookkeeper for her and her husband’s cement company.

She had also took business classes at Seminole State College.

She later worked as District Clerk and Office Manager.

Geraldine also worked for B.J. Hughes Tool Company. She then worked for 14 years at Wrangler before her retirement.

On Nov. 30, 1982 Geraldine married Leroy Lancaster in Seminole, Okla.

Geraldine had been a member of the 1st Church of God in Seminole for 35 years and later became a member of Twin Oak Baptist Church where she attended until her health wouldn’t allow.

Geraldine leaves to cherish her memory one son and daughter-in-law, Terry McDonald and his wife Barbara of Greely, Colo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Floyd Vaughan and his wife Carolyn of Skiatook, Okla.; one sister, Shirley Thoms of Choctaw, Okla.; four grandchildren, Andrew McDonald of Salt Lake City, Utah, Derrick McDonald of Longmont, Colo., Aubrey Merriman of Greely, Colo., Jennifer Thompson of Moore, Okla.; five nephews, Justin Vaughan of Skiatook, Okla., Loren Vaughn of Skiatook, Okla., Eric Vaughan of Lubbock, Tex., S.J. Bailey Jr. of Seminole, Okla., Michael Bailey of Mustang, Okla.; five great-grandchildren, Veronica Remington, (Twins) Kaylyn and Elizabeth Merriman, Austin Merriman, Aaron Jeffery "A.J." McDonald; a special young man that she had befriended, Benjamin Samuel Robbins; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Charlene Vaughan, one son, Ricky Lynn McDonald, and by one grandson, Jeffery Austin McDonald.

A Celebration of Geraldine’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Little Cemetery Chapel located in Little Cemetery. Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.

Virginia Lansdowne

Virginia "Ginny" Lansdowne, Bowlegs resident, died Sunday night, Sept. 7, 2014.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Lansdowne.

There will be a service at the Lansdowne home, 120 Old Hwy 99S on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at 10 a.m.

Sonny Larney

Sonny Larney, 53, longtime Seminole resident, was born on Sept. 15, 1961 in Dallas, Tex.

He was the son of the late Thomas George "TG" Larney and Mozella (Warledo) Larney.

He was the grandson of the late Simon and Lizzie Warledo.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Carla Rae Larney, uncles, Jack, Johnson and Jimmy Warledo and Aunt Ramona Harjo.

Sonny departed this life on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at Midwest City Regional Hospital in Midwest City, Okla.

Sonny attended and graduated in 1979 from Strothers High School.

He had worked for many years at Commercial Brick in Wewoka and Custom Coating in Seminole.

Sonny leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Mozella Larney of Seminole, Okla., aunts, Mary Jean Larney of Seminole, Augustina Rodriguez, Romana Marie " Cesie" Warledo, Roy "Littleman" Warledo, and Bennie Warledo, all of Tulsa, Okla., two sisters, his twin Suzanna "Hok-tee" and her husband Daryl Deer of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Rebecca J. Larney and her husband, Javier Gomez Martinez of Alexandria, Ark., four brothers Thomas G. Larney Jr. and his wife Andrea, Travis and his wife Renee Larney, Simon Larney and Michael Larney all of Seminole, and a host of very special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at the Hitchitee United Indian Methodist Church northeast of Seminole with Rev. Rick Deer and Pastor Donnie Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at the Hitchitee Church Cemetery.

Wake services will be held at 6:00 to 7:30 P.M., Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Okla.

Casket bearers will be Blake Larney, Tyler Larney, Leslile Warledo, Steven McGirt, Benjamin Warledo and Tremayne Griffin.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Okla.
